Beyond The Pale Chapter 3
Author's Note: I do not own The Hunger Games
Horsa Georges, 17. District 10 male Tribute in the 4th Hunger Games. 5th July A:D:D: 4
As the train arrived in the Capitol, I stared at the buildings. There was still areas bombed-out from the recent war, and there was men and women with battle scars. Even the Capitol residents were wearing austere clothing, with muted shades of browns, greys and blacks. As Barbara and I stepped off the train, we were herded into a cattle cart to a ramshackle old building, which resembles the stables back on the ranch in District 10. The Peacekeepers herded us all into the stables, where a small girl was sobbing tearfully. "I want to go home" she sobbed as a boy whispered "It's going to be okay, Riko". The boy must be Riko's District Partner, I thought as the other Tributes began to sit down in groups, each Tribute with their District Partner. "Which District are you from?" I heard a female voice behind me, and turning around, I saw a girl, who looked to be around fifteen or so, with blonde hair in pigtails and green eyes. "Alicia Scott. District 7. The boy sitting over there is my District Partner, Denis Rostron" Alicia introduced herself. "Horsa Georges. District 10" I replied.
"The little girl sobbing is Riko Tomiyasu from District 3. She's the youngest Tribute in the Games" Alicia explained before a voice muttered loud enough for me to hear "Another bunch of Seam kids from District 12"
"What do you mean?" I asked Alicia
"The District 12 tributes of the last three Hunger Games have always been Seam kids, and it's become something of a meme at this point. June Holloway ended up third place last year, and it was only because she temporarily allied herself with the boy from District 5." Alicia explained. I remembered watching the Third Hunger Games last year. Beatrice Draghi, the female Tribute from 10, was killed by the District 1 male, Ethelbert King. However, the standout Tribute during the Games was the District 5 male, who killed Ethelbert's District Partner and the girl from District 2 by turning their weapons against them. Elizabeth Plantagent and Arianna Birdwell were two of the strongest Tributes in those Games. The eventual Victor, the girl from District 11, won by simply being the last Tribute standing when the boy from District 2 bled to death after he killed both the boy from 5 and the girl from 12. I hope to go even further than Anita, I thought. "District 10?" A voice behind me murmured. Turning around, I saw the speaker was a stocky boy with long dark hair and grey eyes. One of the Seam kids, I thought. "Name's Harold Hennessey" the boy introduced himself "District 12". I knew he was from District 12, I thought. "Name's Horsa Georges. I'm from District 10. The girl over there is my District Partner, Barbara Cantwell" I introduced myself to the stocky boy as Harold fiddled with the back of his neck, revealing a chain with a locket on it. "My girlfriend gave this to me, on my 16th birthday" He opened the locket up, with three photos inside. "That's a picture of me, the girl is my girlfriend and the other boy that looks like me is my twin" he explained as he showed me the locket. "Horsa, I would like to ask you a question. Would you and Barbara be willing to ally with the District 12 Tributes?" I replied to the male from District 12 "I will have to ask Barbara if she would love to be part of the alliance though"
"Fair enough." Harold replied as he sat down on the hay. A pair of District 6 Tributes walked up to me, a boy with blond hair and a girl with red hair. "Gordon Wilson, and the girl is Deborah Glosswill." I introduced myself to them, explaining that my name means "horse" in an ancient form of English. "But I'm worried that Bessie will be Reaped" I muttered. Gordon and Deborah looked at me. "Bessie?"
"My sister"
"I'm worried my brothers and sister will be Reaped as well. Plus my own nephew too." Gordon whispered
"Me too, Gordon. I have a younger sister as well, and a baby cousin. Imogen's so cute" Deborah murmured, before gushing about her cousin. I decided to turn to Barbara and she agreed that we should team up with the 11 and 12 Tributes.
Finally, we meet some of the other Tributes. Tributes from District 3, District 6, District 7 and District 12. Before you ask, yes, the District 11 Tributes were recruited into an Alliance while Horsa was chatting with Alicia. We also get some futureshadowing as well, alongside a reference to the original first draft of The Vonheli Chronicles. In the first part, there was a scene where the Female Morphling tells Nigel and Loco the story of Imogen and mentions her older cousin.
