Pre-Chapter Note: Yeah, so I might be losing time with writing this retelling of Elemental, that does not mean I will be abandoning it whatsoever! The reason for that is I have accepted a job at Dunkin recently, and I start this week. I just have one simple request for y'all, DO NOT RUSH ME!
Although I can't say the same for myself, I felt like I rushed the last part, but still. And to be completely honest (SPOILER WARNING), I'm just downing the days until I re-tell my favorite part of Elemental from my character's POV, that part being the crashing of the grand re-opening of The Fireplace. To say that I already have that part planned out is an extreme understatement, but we're not there yet unfortunately.
I still trust that everyone that reads this has seen Elemental at least once or twice already. If not, go see the movie first, I am not responsible if you don't understand the events here or if the movie became ruined for you.
Anyway, this part I said would be perfect for its own chapter, and here we are, let's see what Sam & Ember get themselves into…
1:30 PM the next day…
So, there I was, right outside the Alkali Theater. I was highly doubting Ember would show up, given she said it'd have to take a miracle to get across the bridge that separates Fire from Air, Earth, & Water. I myself was peering over the options on what I could take Ember to watch. I was thanked that I wasn't banned from the Alkali Theater when I was terminated from said location. This was one of my go-to hang out spots bi-weekly with Max & a few others, we see whatever we thought was the biggest release to come out was. So yeah, when I stopped by Max's place to get a few pointers and tips for how to go about this "date" (That's what I said it was just so it wasn't weird), I made Max a slight bit jealous at this fact. But otherwise, was told by everyone that I shared this information with to "have a great time" or "good luck".
JoAnne on the other hand was very pushy about it and was just making fun of the fact that I was going out with a fire person in spite of her giving me advice on dating, even poorly acting the part of Ember (no way a water person would accurately imitate a fire person at all), amid all of this, Reid & I demanded her to stop making fun of the situation, otherwise she'd be punished. She only stopped acting out or being annoying if punishments were threatened at her. Typical younger sister behavior, I guess.
But in the end, I chose a Rom-Com movie. I figured it'd be appropriate since all the other movies I take the guys to see on a bi-weekly basis (we went last week to what is equivalent to the human world as Indiana Jones) are basically just whatever genre we liked. I genuinely thought about the two of us when I picked this movie to see. So, I just kept waiting & waiting for Ember to show up, within a crowd of the other elements, it wasn't going to be as easy as it looked to find Ember in this mess.
And 5 minutes pass, and who do I see within the crowd? Ember. I felt surprised she even showed up. "Yeah, just thought I'd come for a little bit" Ember said, looking very reluctant to show up, but eventually perked up while walking in the theater.
This place was also a safe spot for fire people, as with most places here, however, was very frowned upon, not illegal though, just distrusted for obvious reasons. This'd be her first time here. She'd never been anywhere like this in her life, well… except for that botched attempt to see the vivisteria at Garden Central Station, but that was about it.
So, I get seated with Ember, which shortly after this, the feature presentation gets started. I wouldn't know it yet, but this Rom-Com was something Ember was dying to watch, so me picking this movie on a whim was a decision that I would ponder for a good amount of time on. I could've also picked a movie to the level of Guardians of the Galaxy, but still… plus, I was recommended this movie by Max, he saw it with his new girlfriend he got 3 weeks ago (I still wouldn't know this yet either.) and was one of the biggest movies out right now. Ember, while paying massive attention to the movie on screen, was trying her hardest to not accidentally touch me at all.
Some part of me kept thinking "What if we could mix?". I didn't want to answer this, not especially around 50-ish others, who gave us looks of shock that we were even together. But I just didn't care, and let the movie keep on going.
2 hours & 20 minutes later, 4:05 PM…
To say we loved that movie was an understatement. Ember especially. We couldn't stop talking about it for a good 10 minutes. I go and find a hangout spot for us in the process. However, Ember wanted to see what my part of town looked like on top of one of the tallest buildings the city had. A popular tourist spot for everyone, not just us residents of the city.
So, up we went. It was way too beautiful up here, having a look at the city through a telescope-like object. I loved the view from up here a lot, every time I got to see it, something in me just perks up. "Wow… I never thought about how beautiful the city looks… I wish my dad wasn't so distrusting over the other elements so I could be here more often…" Ember said, not letting her smile fade. Clearly she was in love with this part of town. She couldn't stop staring at every part of the city for 15 minutes, with me pointing out every part of town I felt like she needed to know about in the process.
After all of this, basically we were staring over the edge of the building. However, didn't want to make things boring, so, I decided to make things interesting. It looked like I was fidgeting with something, but I was actually making something cool with a formation of clouds that I had. Don't worry, there wasn't any reminiscence of air residents in these clouds, those were 2 different things. A few minutes passed, and off it went into the air, I made a cloud shaped formation of myself. Onlookers were impressed at this. Ember too was impressed by this and tried to outdo me in this sense. We'd keep this up for a bit, onlookers being surprised and impressed at the same time. After a while, both of us decided to head back down to the hangout spot I picked earlier. I didn't think people would accept us the way we were, one onlooker looked jealous that we made things work.
I was absolutely craving some strawberry lemonade, so bought two of them. Something that also happened to me that I didn't mention earlier, was that any colored drink I get, so in this case, the strawberry lemonade, my physical appearance would change very briefly. Ember took notice and was in awe. Well, she tried to drink it shortly after this, I don't know what it was, but she couldn't even take one sip of this drink, instead it vaporized into thin air. Something we both laughed off at. I was amazed though, I knew fire people had several billion major disadvantages over the rest of the elements, but I didn't think this'd be one. I then began to wonder what their food/drink would be like if I had one bite or sip of such, even expressed interest to her.
"Sam, you don't know how dangerous that'd be. I can't just let that happen on a whim. I'd have to slowly get you there, because even my family know how disastrously that could end." Ember responded, showing genuine concern. "Alright, yeah. Bad idea, sorry about that. Just thought I'd take my chances." I replied, yeah that word clearly hasn't escaped my mind. I sort of expressed my interest in learning more about the Firish language but figured this'd be something I'd do at my own time.
While walking around the fountain, I got pushed into said fountain, but came out a la a water statue. Completely surprising Ember in the process. "Wow…" she whispered to herself. I stayed in this position for about 10 minutes just to see if anyone would take notice. I could hear several people below take photos.
Those 10 minutes came & gone rather damn quickly. I got out of this state to find a few people wanting me to do more poses up on the fountain for them. Even Ember wanted more from me. So, I go about doing this for 45 minutes. Doing some crazy poses that by-standers requested that I do.
Another 10 minutes later
I start to think about taking the long way back to The Fireplace in such a way where her father wouldn't notice I was with her, when about more than halfway to leaving the heart of town, something else happened much like my appearance changing with that lemonade I had earlier. Ember's appearance changed color as well. This completely took us aback for about a minute, however, found out what was really going on a moment later. "Look, it's the minerals." She responded. If in a billion disadvantages fire people had to water, this was actually one disadvantage I had. All fire people could change color if they walked on minerals of any kind. "Wow! That's very cool!" I said back, before Ember turned to me and said, "Watch this!"
Next thing I knew, I watched Ember hop from one mineral to another, changing colors every time she did. Ember's mineral trick lasted 25 seconds, her final position standing on 2 minerals, which made for an even better effect! This effect being half of whatever mineral one stood on, and another half, well, you get the idea.
I thought of something else I could do, because in terms of impressing one another, two could play this game! So, when she was finished with this, I looked back up at her and said, "Oh yeah!? I'll do you one better! Watch this!" I kind of playfully taunted her this way as I surfed across the mini lake, creating a rainbow, which was such a thing of beauty to all onlookers. At this point I was thinking the onlookers were having as much fun as I was. Ember looking back with one of the biggest smiles I've ever seen in my life. I never thought I'd have as much fun as I did.
2 hours later
After 2 hours of just chatting with one another someplace most couples go, and with her slowly showing her feelings back to me, I figured that it was getting immensely late, and I knew that if I'd have taken her back to my place then, I was 99.9% sure that I would be a dead man thanks to her father. "Ember, this truly has been amazing, truly I hope we get to do something like this again." I added that bit of wanting to spend more time with Ember because I didn't think I'd have the time of my life like this. Yet here we were. But I knew there was one more thing I needed to do, just to remember this day by. I pulled out my cell phone and took a selfie of the both of us, but I think I made the mistake of using the flash function on the front-facing camera, as the photo was VERY impossible to notice who was even in the photo. With this in mind, Ember insisted that she take that copy back so her parents didn't figure out that it was me, a water guy, in the picture. So I took two different photos, one I took with the flash turned on, then one with the flash turned off, of course I printed both of these from a nearby photo printer location, just like people would many years ago. I wanted to take the version with Ember visible in it back to my place so I could give my family a technicality of them "seeing Ember" like they've been pushing me to do.
Shortly after all of this, we parted ways for the evening. With me going back to my place, I kept looking at the photo I took. It truly was amazing. I never thought that a fire person would end up slowly falling for a water person, and this photo would be living proof of such.
I got back to my place, and as I would've expected, Reid was home alone, Mom & JoAnne were still out doing something related to something school related. "Oi! Don't keep me in suspense! How was it!" Reid immediately said when he noticed me. I saw that Max was there too. "Yeah, how was your fire date!?" Max jokingly replied. In which I go and give them a summarized explanation of the date. Yes… this felt like a date, in fact, I would admit to this being a date sometime in my explanation of the day.
After about 5 minutes, I showed them the photo that I had of Ember & I. Again, Ember took the initial one so her parents wouldn't know at all.
When they saw the fire girl in her burning glory (again, no pun intended), both were surprised. "Sam, I take back what I said about this being crazy! You two look perfect together!" Max said. Reid showing similar feelings, but just kept pushing me to bring her by. "If I didn't want to see her in person before, I definitely want to see her now!" Reid responded. As if he were expecting the door to knock within the next 5 seconds and her showing up.
"Reid, I found out the hard way yesterday that she's the daughter of that lunatic Bernie, otherwise known as the owner of The Fireplace! Knowing him, I'd be dead if he caught me with her! It'd have to take an act of God to get her over here with no one knowing!" I said back, trying not to lose my temper with Reid. Max chimed in, "He's right you know, I still don't forgive him for wrongfully banning me OVER SOME DAMN SPARKLERS!", trying to clue Reid in on this fact, before it came back to him. Reid became close to being banned for a similar incident. So, all in all, a third of a family plus Max has had bad experiences with this place and this man. Basically, to sum this up, unless it were an extremely busy day at The Fireplace (like another big sale or something), there wasn't any way they would meet Ember in person.
I didn't let any bad memories they had about this suspecting man hinder me telling them more about my time with Ember, and I did. About an hour later, Mom & JoAnne got back home, with me showing the photo to them. Mom was the first to know about my afternoon I just had, even suggested ways to bring her by without her parents knowing. I just told her to cut her losses on this unless a miracle happened. I don't know why everyone kept pushing me to being her by.
I ignored everyone's comments as everyone split and started to get their night's rest. And again, in my dreams that night, Ember was in them. Most of which I was also involved in.
That's just about the gist of where things would pick up. I started planning out my life with her for in case things did make sense and in case I overcame my differences with her father.
One thing's for sure, it was going to be freaking awesome!
So that's where everything stands currently. I didn't think I had time to do 2 chapters in a single day. I know this sounds like it wasn't much, but truly… I'd personally like to thank the reviewer for this story, which reminded me of a simple message I had for a few years, I think it's high time I tell y'all this message. Read below.
So long as you know how your story develops, and you get a good plan and idea for how it'll look, and if you appeal to the right audience, then that's what makes a good story.
There's no such thing as a bad story in my honest opinion. I love seeing what everyone puts on this site.
Anyway, I'll be seeing y'all in the next part. Have a great day/night!
