Hello everyone! Welcome to my first Owl House fic! I was gonna wait until I fully watched the owl house before I wrote anything but I wanna write while I'm still on a kick. (I haven't fully watched the show but I have watched most and know what happens) I hope you enjoy and please let me know what you think!
Everyone was finally safe, Belos was gone and the Boiling Isles were finally safe, well as safe as the Isles could be anyway. It was such a relief for everyone. Everyone got the chance to reunite with their families as all the people the Collector has turned into dolls were returned to normal. Everyone rushed to find their families feeling a mixture of emotions, most feeling joy and relief but some, namely the Hexsquad also felt a tinge of fear.
Were their family really safe? What did they think? They didn't mean to get trapped in the human real and a lot had happened. They didn't know what to think. And there was no one more fearful than Willow. Willow had actually seen her dad as a puppet and it had terrified her, especially with the unknown whereabouts of her papa. So now faced with the moment she can actually see them again the crushing feeling of anxiety hit her full force. This is, until Hunter approaches her and places a gentle hand on her shoulder.
"Captain, how are you feeling?" Willow smiled, while Hunter wasn't the best when it came to expressing himself he was surprisingly good at talking to those he cared about. Sure, he still stumbled, years of social isolation kicking in but he had made leaps and bounds in the right direction. What made her happy was that he didn't as if she was ok, he asked how she was feeling giving her the option to explain rather than curling up on herself as she had done a mere hours earlier.
She ignored the burning forming on her cheeks and turned to face him, giving him a nervous but genuine smile and placing a hand over his which was still placed on her shoulder.
"Stressed, excited...titan I'm feeling so many things I didn't even know you could feel at the same time, but I'm doing as good as I can be...how about you?" Willow asked carefully. Hunter had been through so much in such a short time frame she honestly had no idea how he does it, she knows he'd never admit it mostly because he didn't believe it but he was so strong. She only wished he knew it himself.
Hunter hesitated in answering her question. He so badly wanted to say he was ok and that she didn't need to worry but after everything that had happened and finally getting her to reveal her emotions he didn't have it in himself to lie, not now. But he didn't know how to answer yet. All he wanted to do was see her happy, he cursed emotions for being so hard and damned Belos for everything he could.
"Hunter?" The boy realised he hadn't responded and had gradually tightened his grip on the girl's shoulder, not to a painful extent but enough to worry the two teenagers.
"Sorry I-...honestly I don't know how I feel, I feel like I'm feeling every possible emotion at once and I don't know how to process any of it, not now at least..." Willow's expression softened as she reached her other hand towards his cheek before softly caressing it, rubbing her thumb gently over his new scars as he closed his eyes melting into her touch. She knew he wasn't very comfortable with touch from many people so it filled her heart with so much happiness and pride that he felt so comfortable with her. She tried to think as to when they became so comfortable with each other and couldn't really remember when it started.
Somewhere along the line, Hunter became one of her most important people and her to him. The two had become almost inseparable and unknown to each other they would do whatever they possibly could to ensure that the other remained happy and safe. Willow had felt a part of her die back in the human realm when she had to hold a cold and lifeless Hunter in her arms, praying to whoever should listen to not take him away from them, from her. It had scared her so much and she was so thankful that Flapjack, the darling sweetheart she was, had saved him.
She felt guilty that she thought this but knew that Flapjack loved Hunter and that she wouldn't have had it any other way, if she had a way to save him she would do it every time.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Willow watched as Hunter signed and closed his eyes, steadying himself as best he could. He place a hand over hers, the one that resided on his cheek mimicking her earlier action. After a few seconds, Hunter opened his eyes and allowed a small smile to grace his face as he quickly shook his head.
"No not really, not now anyway besides you need to find your dads don't you?" As selfless as ever, she thought but didn't push the conversation. He'd open up when he wanted to and when that time came she'd happily listen. Grabbing his hand she dragged him along the corridor and towards the main hall of the archives with Hunter happily following behind.
"Yeah let's go, I can't wait to introduce you"
The two stood in the lobby quietly scanning over the crowd of people looking for any sign of Willow's dads. The crowds of people observed their field of vision and Willow's anxiety had her frantically scanning the of them but unable to fully focus on what she was looking at. Honestly, Hunter was the only thing keeping her grounded as he kept a secure arm around her shoulders and he assisted her peering through the crowds.
"It'll be ok"
"I know but what if-"
"Willow, I promise your dads will be so happy to see you and just as proud" Willow blushed and struggled to keep back tears, but rather than them being from her stress but from the happiness she felt from Hunter's words. What did she do to deserve someone like Hunter? It still baffled her that he had been raised in the emperor's coven at all, let alone raised by Belos himself. He was kind, brave, and compassionate, not to mention handsome. How had there been any relation at all? She was so full of joy right at that moment but she didn't have the chance to express it before Hunter spoke smiling and pointing towards the crowd.
"Captain look" Willow glanced in the direction the boy pointed and was happily greeted by the elated faces of her dads and their open arms.
"Go" With that Willow sprinted in their direction and happily jumped into their open arms all three of them allowing themselves to cry, all three of them were safe and finally after so long reunited. Words couldn't even begin to describe the happiness all three felt and the relief that was lifted off of Willow's shoulders, but that didn't stop her dads who were currently smothering him in hugs and kisses.
"Willow sweetheart you're ok"
"Oh thank Titan we were so so scared we'd never see you again, what happened?" Willow laughed and started her futile attempt at wiping her tears away only for them to be replaced as she started to explain what had happened.
"That's...a long story, for one we got stuck in the human realm"
"What!"
"Yeah, I explain everything later I don't even know where I would start" Willow continued to hug her dads and almost missed the mischievous smirks forming on their faces. This expression surprised her until her dad, Gilbert spoke up.
"How about you start by telling us about your little blond friend over there?" Willow's eyes widened as a deep blush flushed to her face, was she really that obvious? She clearly was if her dads saw something after only seeing the two of them interact for a minute! Willow glanced towards his direction and couldn't help but smile at what she saw.
Hunter wasn't alone like he originally thought, instead he was standing with an adorable grin on his face explaining his handmade wolf shirt to Darius and Eberwolf, making childish impressions of a wolf while showing off his new and improved sewing skills. The coven heads seemed just as happy to listen to the boy tattle on, and though everyone knew he'd deny it, Darius definitely looked about five seconds from crying a waterfall. It warmed her heart to know that Hunter really did have someone looking forward to his return, just as she and the rest of their friends. Hunter had fought so hard to get home but not for himself but for them. All he wanted was to return them to their families.
He was always there for them
For her...
She really did love him...didn't she?
"Well? Bumblebee, you went awfully quiet there?" Her dad snapped her out of her thoughts and back to reality, a reality where her dads were teasing her over a boy. An adorable, kind, sweet, loyal, smart and undoubtedly attractive boy...
Oh titan
"I-uh...oh that's Hunter, he's one of our friends who got trapped in the human realm with us and helped us defend Belos, yep that's him" She nervously laughed as she spoke hoping her dads didn't notice her stutter, which didn't work by the way. She only fueled the fire of their teasing and further confirmed her more than friendly affection for the boy.
"Oh really~ he's a very nice friend to wait with you and help find us, you guys must be close"
"I wonder how close?" Willow was more than flustered now and couldn't believe she was being teased about her "new not so new" crush, on Hunter of all people, in public after all that had just happened.
"Dad! Papa! Stop please not now" Her dads laughed as she covered her face with her braids and nervously fidgeted on the spot. They were so happy they had their darling little Willow back and being able to tease her like this just made everything feel normal again, or the closest they could get to it at that moment.
They had no idea that a few months ago they would be separated from their daughter with the potential that they very well may never see each other again. And they definitely had no idea that the ruler they had known since they were born was a tyrannical monster that tried to wipe them out and they'd be turned into puppets by a pastel galaxy cherub. They both sighed and fondly petted her head and smoothed out the unruly bird's nest that was her hair.
"Sorry sweetie we couldn't help ourselves, it's not every day your little girl saves the world and comes home with an adorable blond on her arm, you haven't had a crush on someone since you were 9"
"Shhh, not so loud he has really good hearing and he wasn't on my arm"
"You are completely right...you were in his arms"
"Papa!"
"Ok ok but really, all things considered, you look happy and we saw the way you looked at him. We can only imagine how scary everything must have been and if he helped you get through that, even if only a little bit...we can't thank him enough" The two dads watched as a small smile graced their daughter's face as she peered over towards the boy and the blush that seemed permanently stuck on her face seemed to intensify.
Oh young love
"Yeah...he helped a lot, more than I originally thought...I can't wait for you to meet him" The two men snickered.
"Well doesn't seem like we're going to have to wait long, he's coming this way"
"Wait! What!?" She swivelled around to see the blond running directly towards her and to her surprise he didn't simply stop in front of her. Instead, he ran directly to her, picked her up and spun her around, laughing erupting from both of them as they twirled around. Both Willow's dads shared knowing glances with one another along with Darius's knowing and somewhat smug look.
A few seconds later Hunter placed his favourite plant witch back on her feet but keep his hands firmly around her waist, unbeknownst to himself. He was running purely on adrenaline and rare, pure, completely still new to Hunter, joy and happiness. If his usual self were in the same situation, he would have already burned along with the boiling sea. Willow was surprised by his action but was in no way opposed to it, after all for Hunter to show so much affection, it was a rare and honourable feat.
"Captain! Captain, you were right! Darius and Eberwolf were waiting for me and missed me too. Darius even complemented my shirt and sewing skills and Eberwolf wants to learn about wolves! Eeeeee!" Hunter let out a very excited squeal similar to the one he had when Gus offered to cosplay Cosmic Frontier with him. He was so happy! Willow had never seen him so happy and excited.
And if she had it her way, he'd always feel the way...maybe even with her.
"Captain, thank you for everything" Hunter drew her in once more and this time she had enough time to reciprocate and hug him back with just as much strength and emotion. Hunter nuzzled his face into her hair and she buried hers into his chest as she wrapped her arms around his torso. He was warm. He always had been...god how hard had she fallen? Oh, titan save her.
By the seems of it the titan really didn't seem to want to let her keep any of her dignity because before long she heard a very forced cough, one which very much seemed like a strangled laugh come from her dad, dragging the two teenagers back to reality.
"Uhem, I hope we're not interrupting~" She felt Hunter stiffen instantly and his weight shift. Suddenly the weight of the situation and the...not so platonic implication of the scenario hit him like a ton of bricks as he felt a crushing wave of anxiety and embarrassment wash over him. He suddenly became a whole lot more aware of his surroundings along with his body.
He was hugging Willow, his Captain.
He had his arms wrapped around her practically drawing her close to him...
In pubic...
In front of Darius and Eberwolf...
And her DADS!
Fuck Titan what have I done?
Goodbye love of my life, I'm going to go bury myself now, what will kill me first? The elements or my crippling embarrassment, find out next time! This is Hunter tapping the fuck out!
He quickly pulled away from her and straightened his posture to make some last-ditch effort to make a good impression. He tried to say something to clear the situation up or introduce himself but the only thing that came out of his mouth was a strangled squeak, sounding somewhere between weez and a griffin chew toy. The only time Willow had ever heard that noise had been during the day of unity.
He tried again but his voice seemed to have completely failed him, he had used all of his social battery and energy that his body decided that it no longer needed his voice. Even his body seemed to betray him and decided meeting his crush's parents wasn't an important enough occasion to fucking work like literally any other time before now.
You're request has been processed but can not be followed up at this moment, please try again later, byeeeeee
Thanks, Inner Hunter for ridding me of my voice in one of the most important moments of my life!
"Hmm" The only sounds that Hunter could muster were small hums and squeaks of disappointment, Willow gave him a pat on the back and decided she'd take the lead. Even though she felt just as embarrassed and was about five seconds away from grabbing Hunter and jumping out the closest window.
The archives had very large windows after all, they would make excellent emergency escapes.
"He he...Dad, Papa, this is Hunter and Hunter, these are my dads Harvey and Gilbert Park" Finding himself still unable to speak Hunter gave them a small awkward smile and wave. Thankfully the two seemed to understand his plight and didn't question him or push for a more verbal response. To be honest they found the boy quite endearing and couldn't help but remember their youth as they introduced each other to their parents. He was doing quite well in their opinion.
He didn't set them on fire like Harvey did...
That was a story for another day.
"Nice to meet you Hunter thank you for looking out for our daughter for the last couple of months" Hunter quickly shook his head and found his voice, despite how quiet it was.
"I would hardly say I did anything sirs, the captain was the one who looked after us if anything"
"Aww, you're so modest you're adorable! We'll have plenty of time to talk later I'm sure you two have lots of stories about the human realm, would you like to join us for dinner Hunter? I'm sure Harv and Willow would love for you to join us" Hunter's eyes widened and was about to protest until Darius and Eberwolf stepped forward, with Darius placing a gentle hand on the boy's hair.
"He'd love to, and if I may be so bold may we join you as well? If not for dinner but for the company?"
"Of course the more the merrier, though we may have to hunt our own food though..." Darius chucked giving the most innocently mischievous smirk he could muster.
"Then it's settled, dinner with the in-laws"
"DARIUS!" Hunter's face erupted in a violent blush, he looked horrified Darius wished so badly he could take a photo of this beautiful expression and preserve it forever. Perhaps even keep it on his mantle.
"No need to be embarrassed sport, Willow and you will make such pretty babies don't you agree Harv?
"DAD!" The adults all erupted into violent laughter unable to hold it any longer. The red-modified faces of their children/ward were too much, Eberwolf fell off Darius's shoulders and started rolling around on the ground while the three men all but doubled over in laughter clenching their stomachs. These kids did not save the world for this!
