A/N hey guys here's chapter 2 of this story most of the story will be told from Chavez's POV mainly because Avery is now a toddler and is just learning how to walk and talk Avery is now 2 years old and Chavez will be able to say the famous line Mexican Indian you son of a bitch because of Avery being very young so just letting you guys know that in case you were wondering and it had also been 2 years since the massacre at the Red Sands and Chavez is now a Regulator and we're at the beginning of the first Young Guns movie so I hope you guys like this please let me know what you guys think about it and please no negative criticism comments or reviews please constructive criticism is alright but no negative criticism comments or reviews and I don't own any other the Young Guns characters just Avery and maybe some other OC'S that I may or may not add in this story later on but we'll alright enjoy chapter 2.
Chapter 2.
Chavez's POV:
It had been 2 years since my family was murdered by Murphy and his men as well as the United States Army my daughter Avery is now 2 years old and I can barely keep up with her she's always by my side except when me and the rest of the Lincoln County Regulators are tending to chores on John Tunstall's ranch or his cattle and when we were doing either of those things John would watch Avery who was at first a little scared but I reassured her that it was alright and after awhile she slowly warmed up to him and I felt it was safe since he had saved both me and Avery me from being hanged for attempted murder and Avery becoming an orphan and we were both grateful for that John Tunstall was a simple man who came from England to America to start a new life he also owned a general store in Lincoln and is best friends with the McSweens Alex McSween was a lawyer and would often help John with legal proceedings especially when it came to government beef contracts that were used to supply the Native American tribes with food I had hoped that John would get the beef contracts that another tribe won't end up like my mother's people ended up John had also taught me how to bury Murphy without hurting anyone as well as how to read and write he began to teach Avery how to read and write as well and I was very proud of her for that Dirty Steve Stevens was a different story he hated me and Avery being on John's ranch he was very racist about it and was always covered in dirt and grime and Avery was very scared of him and I would always have to protect her from his wrath and today I got into an argument with him while John and Doc another one of the Regulators were in town Avery was on the front porch playing with some of her toys as I was twirling my Bowie knife around in my hand pointing it at Steve
You wanna play games pendejo? I asked darkly twirling my Bowie knife
You're a red ass Mexican greaser you do it with your horse Steve replied spitting tobacco out at me MEXICAN GREASER!
Come here you little white chicken shit I growled getting more mad by the minute
Right as I was about to cut Steve into two Dick Brewer who was leader and foreman rode up to try and break us up but I wasn't going down without a fight and neither was Steve who kept taunting me and dancing out of reach of my Bowie knife
Hey hey knock it off knock it off hey you know better Chavez Dick chastised
Navajo! Navajo! Steve taunted
That's enough Dick said sternly
As he said we heard horse hoofs and saw John and Doc as well another person who we were yet to find out about I looked over and saw Avery stand up and watched as the buggy came in
John's back now washed up and in your supper clothes "Now both of you! Dick said
I twirled my knife before putting back in its sheath as I did Steve shoved me I tried to hit him for it but couldn't I saw Doc hop off and walk over to us I rubbed where Steve shoved me as Doc came over
You okay? Doc asked
I nodded letting him know that I was alright and everything I looked up and saw new comer he looked no more then 18 or 19 years old with a grey color cap and bright blue green I sigh softly while watching the new comer I don't know why but he seems like a crazy kid to me
Glad you're back Doc you can start Haling the rope inside Dick said in his thick Vermont accent
John bring another case? Charlie asked who is another one of the Regulators
Hope it ain't another Mexican Steve added
Mexican Indian you son of a gun I growled
Steve smirked at me before I walked off and looked over and saw the new comer who's name I learned from Doc was Billy trying to feed the pig but I guess the pig wasn't having and scared Billy to the point of him pulling out his gun aiming it at the pig and caused me to throw three of my knives at a fence post beside him Billy had his gun on me as I walked over to retrieve my three knifes I glared at him as I pulled the knives out and walking away to Charlie taking up talking to him as that happened Avery came running up to me with her arms out I smiled softly and gently picked her up kissing her cheek causing her to giggle
Hi sweetheart I said
Hi daddy Avery replied laying her head down on my shoulder and sucking her thumb
Avery had just begun to learn how to walk and talk and I was happy about that but I also was a little sad that my mother and Aurora wouldn't be able to see it I kept a picture of Aurora and would often show it to Avery and tell her about her mother I could tell that Avery missed Aurora even though she couldn't really remember her that well since she was only a week old when the attack happened I gently bounced Avery in my arms as we watched Billy and Charle interact
Who's that daddy? Avery asked pointing to Billy
That's Billy sweetheart he's going to be joining us I said
Will be like my uncle like uncle Doc and uncle Charlie and uncle Richard? Avery asked
Yeah he'll be like your uncles I replied
Yay! Avery said causing me to chuckle
That night we had dinner I got Avery washed up and ready for dinner then set her down in a highchair by then she had already been introduced to Billy and the both of them seemed to like each other Billy would often make funny faces at Avery causing her to laugh while I was trying to get her to eat her dinner
Well now look at those appetites John said as we ate William have some more
You ever worked beef before Billy? Dick asked
Yeah I worked a little out Fort Sumner way Pete Maxwell's place did the chow line but uh I got a away with cattle Billy replied causing Steve to giggle
"What's jolly funny master Steven? That's not proper table manners John said
Got away with hogs Charlie said causing both him and Steve to giggle
Congratulations Charles you and Steven will be doing the dirty crockery alone this evening John told them
Sorry John it struck me funny Charlie said
Onto William both of you John ordered
Apologizes William just hacking on ya that's all Charlie apologized
Yeah we're just hacking on ya Steve added
I shook my head as I fed a forkful of food to Avery Charlie was always known to be a teaser he always like to have fun he would ever tried to bully anyone he'd just always like to joke around and have fun Steve on the other hand had been a bully no matter what and I knew that first hand
Rumor has it that you killed a man Billy you don't seem like the killing sort Dick said
Yeah Billy what did you kill him for? Steve asked with a mouthful of food
He was hacking on me Billy replied darkly glaring at Steve causing him to nervously swallow a lump in his throat
It got quiet for a bit then afterwards and after Steve and Charlie were done with the dishes it was time for our reading session John always had us read a section of the newspaper before bed I sat down in front of John with Avery right beside me playing with her stuffed husky that I had once given her while I was fixing the handle on one of my knives as Steve read the newspaper badly
There are plenty of men who will never scede Steve read
Succeed John corrected
Succeed who will never succeed anywhere Steve read
We've got a whole roomful of them right here Dick commented
We all chuckled at Dick's comment as John asked Billy to read Billy refused at first until John convinced him and so Billy read the next paragraph perfectly which amazed all of us John smiled as he got up and walked over to where Billy was sitting
Splendid splendid reading William goodnight gentlemen John said walking out of the room
Goodnight Mr Tunstall we all said
Avery yawned and rubbed her eyes tiredly so I gently picked her up and carried her to bed I read her a bedtime story before she fell asleep but didn't go to sleep just yet I laid there with Avery curled up beside me looking up at the sky wishing Aurora could be here I sighed softly and looked down at Avery who was sound asleep and gently kissed the side of her head before finally going to sleep and that was that
