Ben, run!" screamed Gwen as she ran toward him, trying to push him out of the way. Suddenly, a huge explosion went off right in front of Bens face. He tried to block the blast with his arms, but it was too late. His entire body was swallowed by the massive fireball.

Gwen, who was right behind him, was just able to protect herself with an energy shield. She tried desperately to make it large enough to cover Ben, but she was so low on energy that all she could muster was a barrier that covered a small area in front of him. After the smoke cleared, all that remained of the building they were in was a steel beam that had fallen right where Ben was standing. Gwen couldnt believe what had happened. In shock, Gwen tried to search the area, but because she was caught off guard, her shield was barely able to protect her. Then, suddenly, the adrenaline wore off, and she toppled to her knees.

A few hours later, Gwen barely opened her eyes; all she could see was smoke, fire, and a few men in firefighter uniforms running toward her. They picked her up and carried her onto a stretcher. The firefighters noticed Gwens eyes were trying to open, so they tried to ask her some questions about what happened. The only thing that she was able to get out, however, was "Find Ben." Then she lost consciousness again.

Gwen was transported to the closest hospital to treat her injuries. They tried their best to repair her broken leg, but it was so badly damaged that she would never fully recover. After months of physical therapy, Gwen was able to walk unassisted, but every time she took a step, the pain would worsen. So most of the time, she would just use the wheelchair her grandpa scavenged from a junkyard. Now that she was stuck with a wheelchair, she had to move into an apartment that was closer to her grandpa, just in case she needed help.

Because Gwen was the only survivor, she had great remorse for what happened. "What more could I have done? How could I have saved him?" she thought. She thought over and over until she began to cry. "Why wasn't I strong enough?!" she screamed. Gwen was always hard on herself when it came to losing battles with villains and being too weak to defeat them on her own, but this loss was so much more devastating to her. She lost someone so close to her. Someone who she trusted with her life.

"Maybe he shouldn't have had the same trust," she thought to herself. Gwens phone started ringing. She had take a deep breath before answering. "Hello, Gwen?" She knew that voice, it was one of the cops who took her statement after the incident. "Yes!" She answered hoping to hear good news. "Gwen I'm sorry to say but we have to give up on the investigation involving your missing cousin, it's just been to long without any leads..." Gwen couldn't believe what she heard. All she could say was "ok." And she hung up. Enraged by the call, sparks started coming from her hands then suddenly she threw her phone. It hit the wall and smashed into pieces. Normally she wouldn't have the strength to even throw the phone hard enough to crack the screen but whenever she is overwhelmed her powers temporarily come back, usually resulting in huge amounts of damage to the apartment.
