February 15, 2243
The looks on their young faces had brought sadness to those around them and sorrow to what those people were thinking about. No child should go through what they had, no child should lose a parent like what had happened to Winona Kirk. Her children, Jamie and Sam, were on the ship when it happened to her. In the middle of the Alpha shift, and the middle of the school day, the USS Franklin was attacked by a batch of rebel Klingons.
While Jamie was done with high school and was finishing up college, she still had to be in where the kids her age were. Sam, on the other hand, was in his junior year of high school as he wasn't as smart as his sister was. There were so many people at the funeral feeling sorry for the Kirk siblings as about two thirds don't know what it's like to lose a parent. Jamie was hugging a teddy bear that she gotten from her mother who had gotten the bear from her father on their first date.
Jamie tried not to cry as she rested her head on her brother's shoulder as both her brother and cousin tried to comfort her. Winona was loved dearly by her family so her death hit them the hardest, especially with her sisters who absolutely loved her. Jamie wanted to kill the Klingons who attacked the ship which caused her mother to die in the plasma explosion. And when Captain Aaron Stevens came up to Jamie and Sam after Winona was declared dead by the CMO, the look on his face told them that their mother was gone.
In the week between the Franklin getting back to earth and the funeral in Georgia, Sam and Jamie stayed with their aunt and uncle who lived there. While there, Jamie never left her cousin's side, even sleeping in the same bed as him as Jamie hated the feeling of being alone at night. But the 2 ultimately knew that they weren't going to stay there much longer as their mother had other plans for them. They knew that they were going to a earth colony called Tarsus 4 in a few day to live with their mother's godmother, Hoshi Sato.
They had met Hoshi so many times before and liked her all the same when they were in the same room. Hoshi was like a grandma to Sam and Jamie, especially since their grandparents on their father's side had passed on. As time went on, things got darker and sadder as now Sam and Jamie could not deny that their mother was gone. If someone could read Sam's mind, they would find thoughts on how he could bring his mother back from the dead.
February 17, 2243
It's been two days since the funeral and now Sam along with Jamie are heading for Tarsus 4 and everyone is crying while saying their goodbyes. Jamie and Sam didn't want to leave their aunt and uncle's house, but they had to as they couldn't fight the law. Hoshi had personally came and picked them up as she couldn't make it to her goddaughter's funeral in time. Sam and Jamie were saddened when they first saw Hoshi the night before as they knew they had to leave.
Jamie had locked herself in the room she was staying in all night as she did not want to leave earth or the house. But she was convinced to come out of the room the next morning with her bags packed, but a sour look on her face. Everyone knew that Jamie was not very happy about this move or about the situation, especially since she is still grieving. Jamie's aunt just wanted to wrap her up in a blanket and say that everything is just fine and everything will be alright.
But that would be a bold face lie and a good southern belle like Ella never lies about stuff like that.
March 17, 2243
One month since moving to the earth colony and even the holiday of St Patrick's day couldn't even cheer the Kirk siblings up from their mood. All that could make them happy was seeing the faces of their Aunt, Uncle and cousins in their daily video call again. Though Jamie has warmed up to a few local kids by the names of Tommy Leighton who was about the same age as her. Then there was John Harrison who was about the age as Sam and Kevin Riley who is five almost six years old.
Everyone was happy that Jamie was finally making some friends who she could call her own and were not intimidated by her high intellect. Jamie always had a hard time getting friends as she was smarter than most people and some saw her as a freak because of it. That was one reason why Jamie had always stuck by the sides of her brother and cousin so much. Those two were almost as smart as Jamie, but most couldn't see it as they could hide it with their personalities.
People who didn't care about Jamie's smarts and were to fooled to see Sam and Leonard's smarts often told the boys that they should be as smart as Jamie. Those people made the three kids laugh as the adults had no idea how wrong they were about all of it.
May 17, 2243
It has been three months since Winona's funeral and moving onto the colony with Hoshi.
Sam and Jamie seem happier than before as they finally accepted that they are never leaving Tarsus until they were 18. Or they get accepted to a university without an online campus for that field and have to go to the actual university. But Sam and Jamie are still saddened by the fact that their mother is dead and is never coming back into their lives. The Kirk siblings still take their daily call from their family but are starting to hangout with their friends.
Jamie was almost always found with Tommy, John and Kevin learning languages from Hoshi while tending to her garden in her backyard. They all were learning Vulcan, Andorian, Denobulan and Klingon, though on the side Jamie was learning a bit of Xindi. About once or twice a month Hoshi will get a visitor in the form of Jonathan Archer, T'Pol, Trip Tucker or Malcolm Reed. T'Pol would often help Jamie, Tommy, John and Kevin with their Vulcan when she was on the colony and had nothing better to do.
T'Pol often video called the small group when she was not on Tarsus to tutor them in Vulcan as she didn't have as a busy schedule as other Vulcans around her. Jamie loved these calls as she and her friends could understand Vulcan perfectly, T'Pol often told them stories of the NX-01 in her native language. Jamie had the ability to pick up a language if she heard it for long enough and Kevin was at the age where he could easily say that Vulcan was another primary language for him.
Hoshi, Jamie, John and Tommy all thought it was cute and laughed a little bit whenever Kevin messed up a word or a phrase. But Kevin was determined to learn everything from Hoshi and his face when focusing was really cute to Hoshi and Jamie.
August 17, 2243
It was now six months since the funeral and moving to Tarsus with Hoshi and the Kirk siblings have barely thought of their mother as of late. Sam and Jamie still have their daily talks with their Aunt, Uncle and cousins about anything and everything under the sun. T'Pol still calls about two or three times a week for the Vulcan language lessons she has been giving to Jamie, Tommy, John and Kevin. Trip had lived with them for a few months now as section 31 has been eyeing Jamie like a piece of meat and they were a hungry vulture wanting the food source out there.
"I'm not leaving till Malcolm tells me that it's safe." Trip said when he moved in at the end of May.
Trip had told Jamie that since the incident with the Klingons that killed Winona, section 31 has been wanting her to join. They thought that since she was born when future Romulans were attacking and orphaned by Klingons, she must be Xenophobic. But can't be further from the truth as she could hate whole races of people just because of a small group of them. And she can't hate all aliens just because of those two instances that took her parents away.
What Section 31 was doing to Jamie kept reminding Trip about what it was like after they returned to earth after the Xindi. Phlox barely left his little area, T'Pol almost lost her emotional control, the people at the Vulcan embassy rarely showed their faces. And almost all of the human crew of the NX-01 were shamed for working with aliens and visiting alien worlds. Some almost quit Starfleet entirely because of how mean those people were to them and to Phlox and T'Pol.
But they were convinced to stay on by Johnathan and some of the Admirals who did not want to lose people. Some of the Xenophobic were okay with the aliens as they knew those ones had nothing to do with the attack. Those people had even defended the Vulcans and Denobulans whenever possible.
October 17, 2243
Month 8
Trip hasn't left the Sato/Kirk house yet as he still fears for Jamie and is in fear of the people who want Jamie in their clutches. Jamie understands as she had heard horror stories about section 31 over the months from Malcolm whenever he visited. During his time at the house, Trip taught Jamie and her friends how to fight with different types of weapons and how to be hyper vigilant of their surroundings. John and Jamie loved these lessons that happened right after their language lessons though Tommy only saw it as a skill that could be useful to have.
December 17, 2243
Month 10
It was getting closer and closer to the Christmas holiday. Sam had celebrated his birthday last week and was happy with all the food and presents and people there. Sure Sam was sad that Winona wasn't alive anymore to celebrate with him, but at least her family back on earth came up to celebrate. Originally they wanted to wait till closer to Christmas to come to Tarsus, but Sam had asked to come up early for his birthday.
Jamie was happy that her favorite cousin was there, especially now since Winona's death hung over the Kirk siblings like a dark cloud. Hoshi and Trip knew that Sam and Jamie wanted their mother back and knew that she will never if time travel remains a theory.
December 25, 2243
Month 10 and a half
Christmas was a happy, but somber affair as everyone ate food from the makeshift buffet, opened presents from under the tree, drank eggnog. Johnathan, Malcolm, Phlox and T'Pol had come two day before to celebrate with their favorite two kids. Though they did get a small present for everyone else so they wouldn't feel left out on the gift exchange. Ella and David were grateful that Johnathan, Malcolm, Phlox and T'Pol had gotten the presents for them even though they didn't have too.
January 17, 2244
Month 11
The longer Jamie stayed on Tarsus, the more she noticed about the people who lived on the colony planet. She, John and Tommy all noticed how the governor and his men were getting a little jumpy and weird. They told both Hoshi and Trip who said they would investigate further and told them not to look into it any further. Though they said that if info was found by other means, bring it to them first before anyone else.
This was mostly directed to Tommy who worked in the food labs, the labs that invented the food replicator and they constantly update it.
February 9, 2244
Tommy was working at his station in the food labs when he found it, the anomaly that his boss was worried about. There was a fungus that had escaped the lab attacking the crops and other plant life on the planet. Right now it was attacking wild plants but it was inching to attacking the crops in the farms. Tommy moved the info to his tablet and ran as fast as he could to Trip who was at the Starfleet outpost on the other side of the city.
February 10, 2244
Trip talked to Johnathan about the fungus that was now attacking the trees and flowers that people had in their yards. And as soon as Trip and Johnathan were about to say goodbye, the comm. went out with a message that read, "By the order of Governor Kodos, all comm. service is now suspended indefinitely."
February 11, 2244
The crops for food were now infected with the fungus and everyone was relying on the food that was in storage. Kodos's men were out patrolling so the residence would not go looting for the food that was meant to be for everyone. Hoshi had prepared in time to get a stayses field and grow her own food that also spread up the growing time. She shared with Leighton's, the Riley's and the Harrison's. Hoshi even bribed Kodos's men with the food for protection.
February 12, 2244
Even though they had enough time to harvest food before the fungus took over, the stores were now running low. Leighton's, the Riley's and the Harrison's had taken refuge in Hoshi's house for protection as there was a rumor that said that there will be killings soon.
February 13, 2244
The rumor Mrs. Riley heard about killings was right. While Hoshi, Trip and Sam were out of the house, Kodods's men came and took Jamie along with the Leighton's, the Riley's and the Harrison's. They were lead to the city center square where some more people were there as well. While no one was looking Jamie took John, Tommy, Kevin and five other kids to where she knew Trip, Sam and Hoshi were.
When they were far enough away, they heard gun shots firing at the people who were left in the square. Kevin stopped and started to cry at the thought of losing his parents like this, he was now an orphan. John took charge, put Kevin onto his back like his school bag and ran to where Jamie was leading them. When they reached where Hoshi, Sam and Trip were, they told the about what was happening.
Hoshi looked horrified at what she heard from the children and was more horrified when she saw Kevin.
February 14, 2244
Hoshi and Trip managed to get a message out to the Vulcans for T'Pol through Vulcan channels that were apparently not blocked. Jamie was panicking because she feared that Kodos and his men would find them and kill them. But Trip told her that he will protect them like he has been doing for almost a year because of Section 31.
February 15, 2244
T'Pol messaged Trip back saying that getting ships out was taking longer because the council hates that earth is colonizing planets. But they had to be reminded that Vulcan had also colonized planted and other planetoids in their past. And that was how the Romulan Star Empire came into being, it wanted to be away from the Vulcans prying eye. It was also why they never developed the touch telekinesis.
February 16, 2244
T'Pol finally got back ad said that there were Starfleet ships going to Tarsus, but it would take a day to get there. Trip told this to Hoshi, John, Jamie, Sam and Tommy as they needed to know so they can look out for gold and red shirts. Jamie was glad to hear this as she wanted to get off the rock that wanted to kill the humans on it.
February 17, 2244
Month 12/One Year
Help finally came in the form of the USS Yorktown that was captained by Christopher Pike, but it also had Johnathan, Malcolm and Phlox on it. Jamie was so happy when she saw those red and gold shirts and admiral suits coming up to them.
"Phlox, Johnathan, Malcolm!" Jamie had yelled in happiness.
Jamie ran into Johnathan's arms for a hug which Johnathan fully gave back.
March 17, 2245
Two years and one month
Hoshi, Sam, Trip and Jamie were back on earth and had moved right across the street from the kid's aunt and uncle in Georgia. Sam and Jamie seemed to be happier now that they were near their family and Hoshi loved this feeling. Though Jamie and Sam did go through a year of therapy to get over what had happened to them on Tarsus. But after that year, they were better and were not attending the University of Mississippi or Ole Miss.
