They wouldn't let Peter go outside by himself and they had worked very hard to buy his medications, making it their priority before any real food. At Peter's elementary school, they wouldn't let him do gymnastics, dance or anything that would even slightly speed up his breathing. The neighbor's dog had tried to bite Peter on the way home from school with Ben. br /It had all happened so fast that Ben had managed to throw Peter's backpack in the dog's face, but the dog had chased Peter for about ten blocks until Peter had fallen to the ground unable to breathe and had the animal biting his ankle. May had run down the stairs from the 12th floor to the ER almost flying, not to mention colliding with Dr. Gomez and Dr. Rushtaj in the process damaging the gowns with /She could barely see Ben with blood dripping down his arm and obvious signs that he had been bitten by something in his arm as he ran behind a gurney with what she recognized as her nephew with a cyanotic tone and a lot of blood around him. /p

Peter became a totally withdrawn and nervous child, and if he was already sensitive to everything, it was even more noticeable. He concentrated on his studies, especially in science, and at the age of 10 he had managed to get a scholarship to MidTown Tech High School, one of the most renowned private schools in New York. br /May and Ben were really happy, they couldn't ask for anything less. Their 11 years couldn't have started any better. While it was a great opportunity, they hoped it would not destabilize their current finances to any great extent, but they would do everything they could to help Peter get ahead more and more each day. /p

Especially when May and Ben realized that Peter was crying because he had no friends at school, maybe it had all come together at a bad time and affected his asthma. It was a really upsetting situation./p

It was so sudden and so extensive that he was declared unfit for work. Actually everything that month had gone perfectly. Ben had gotten a job as a partner in a small construction company, they had stabilized, they were even planning to buy a small but nice house, and if it hadn't been for Peter's suspicion and attention to his uncle, Ben would have died. He simply collapsed while breakfast was being served and Peter promptly called 911 while following everything the operator mentioned. br /After six months in intensive care, coronary care, respiratory care, chronic patient program, cardiology and so on, they had come to the conclusion that Ben's 50 years plus his severe tobacco and alcohol use in his youth did not make him a candidate for transplant.
