Novum Chaldea is where many Servants from legends, stories, and myths are summoned to fight for humanity by the world's last two masters, who fight tooth and nail in every singularity. In the white halls of Chaldea, you'll find a girl with orange hair in a ponytail wearing a Chaldea uniform.
This person was Ritsuka Fujimaru, a master of Chaldea who is tasked with restoring humanity, accompanied by her purple-haired kohai and trusted Servant Mash Kyrielight.
Ritsuka was tired. She had recently finished a material run for her Servants. Since an incident involving a Servant, the two masters weren't allowed to have a shared storage of materials though Ritsuka can ask Mortem for his materials if the need calls for it and vice versa. If you ask Ritsuka and Mortem, they'll tell you it's stupid. Having to do a material run every day was taxing.
"Senpai, are you alright?" Mash asked, concerned for her Senpai and Mortem, who meant much to her. They both haven't been looking okay Mortem looked anxious and on edge. Ritsuka has been sleep deprived and sluggish lately.
"Hm… Yeah, I'm okay." Gudako said, walking around in the silent Chaldea halls. The day's supply run sapped her of her mana. "Hey, Mash, have you seen any Servants around?" It was weird for Chaldea to be this quiet something was wrong, and she would've investigated to find out, but she wanted to go to sleep today.
"Now that you mention it, senpai, I haven't seen any Servants around either. Do you think Mortem had something to do with it?" Mash asked.
It would make sense, but he hasn't told me anything.
"He would have told me something if he was going to the Servants on a massive scale like this," Gudako remembered something similar to this when he made his famous grilled cheese sandwiches. Servants from all over would come. Even the ones that refused to eat would rush to the cafeteria if he cooked today. Gudako, at first, didn't see the hype in the Servants who wanted to get Mortems sandwiches till she had one. If Mortem had told her that wars were fought over those sandwiches, she would have believed him.
They both kept walking till they ran into Tiamat and Raikou they were having a conversation, and although one can only speak in an ancient language, they understood each other almost too perfectly. The moms are usually around Mortem since they are his Servants and have a strong nature to watch over him as a mother. Though they seemed unapproachable initially, they weren't the most hostile out of the bunch unless you hurt their child (master).
Tiamat, an earth mother goddess, was the main threat in Babylon and was defeated by the Ritsuka and Mortem with the help of their Servants. The Servant had massive horns and wore a sweater and pants. Although she helps Chaldea and is nice, the staff and Ritsuka feel hostile toward her, but Mortem talks to everyone, saying she's sorry about what happened at the singularity. Though she tends to hang around Mortem and sometimes holds his hand, she comes off as a doting mother.
Minamoto no Raikou is a warrior famous for killing mysteries all around Japan. She is a kind person, if not a little mentally unstable. Unable to see how her constant doting around Mortem can cause something terrible in the long run, Raikou claims she's doing nothing wrong when confronted by this fact. Although if she tends to act restricting, he talks to her or gets Kintoki to get the heat off him for a few hours. Though Ritsuka does remember a time when she threatened and almost killed a fellow Servant for hurting Mortem outside of training. Her bloodlust and killing intent could be felt throughout Chaldea, and Mortem and Kintoki had to calm her down. She wore casual clothing, a sweater, and jeans.
Raikou was the one to notice Mash and Ritsuka in the hallway. "Hello, Mash and Gudako. How are you tod- are you okay?" Raikou asked, concerned about the fellow master Chaldea.
"Yeah, just tired. Do you know where everyone else is?" curious about where everyone at.
"Aaaa~," Tiamat said something to Ritsuka in a sing-song voice, pointing in a direction. However, she spoke in an ancient language. Ritsuka and Mash were confused since they didn't understand her. Tiamat knew and nudged Raikou to speak for her.
"Ah yes, last time I saw Mortem, he was in the cafeteria. He was going to eat and go on a Minteral run," Raikou explained. "I heard you just finished yours a little while ago." Ritsuka nodded. "I see. Then get some rest. You don't look too good. I don't want my child's friends to be sick."
The two mothers waved goodbye to Ritsuka as they continued their conversation.
"Looks like Mortem Senpai is in the cafeteria. Should we head there as well?" Mash asked her beloved senpai Gudako.
"Hmm… sure, let's go," Ritsuka said, sounding out of it. I could eat some food right now before I go to sleep.
The pair talked about a couple of things while walking to the cafeteria. As they did, however, the noise from the cafeteria was getting louder. It sounded like everyone was here.
When Ritsuka entered the cafeteria, she saw Servants and staff eating and talking. The Servants often stick in groups, such as noble Servants talking amongst themselves and knights of the round talking with each other. Children Servants eat at a table, talking about their next plot.
It didn't take long for Ritsuka and Mash to find Mortem eating and talking with a group of Servants, with Fou eating a plate with food on the table.
"Hey, Mortem," Mash greeted. Altered all the Servants around Mortem. The fellow master waved back and made space for them to sit.
"Hey, what's up, guys!" Mortem responded. "As you can see, I'm eating, and my clone is helping out with the others in the kitchen if you need something."
Ritsuka was contemplating sitting down and relaxing or getting food. She wanted to ask Mash to get some food, but she felt that wouldn't be fair to Mash since she does a lot for Gudako when it becomes too hard to move around. I've had days where I felt sluggish, but this is tiresome. Maybe I should ask some of the medical staff or Da Vinci.
Mortem, unbeknownst to anyone, read Ritsuka's mind. It's not like he was trying to read her mind. It is just one of those abilities that happens. The staff and a few Servants have low mental defenses, so occasionally their thoughts would seep out. He could force his way into people's heads and cast forms of hypnotism unless they had high mental defenses or were divinity with a strong core.
Mortem, with a huff, made a clone that appeared in a smoke cloud. "Could you please get Mash and Gudako some food and tell the chefs to make Gudako's plate high in nutrients and minerals? Her energy is low. Thanks." Mortem told my clone, which gave him a salute and walked toward the kitchen. Mortem turned and saw the strange looks on Ritsuka and Mash. "Oh, sorry, I read your mind. After a material run, I saw your energy looks lower than usual. Again I apologize."
The fellow Master of humanity huffed. Now I need to ask Da Vinci about a new mystic code for mental defenses. She reminded herself as she wanted to start a conversation.
The Masters of Chaldea talked about their day. Mortem spoke about his father with Tamamo, Serninty, and possibly Fou since he just appeared out of nowhere at the end. Also, he had to train with some Servants but somehow talked his way out of those training sessions and the activities. Today's worst was getting Chaldea's local NEET out of her room to shower. Mortem thought that was going to be an easy task. However, Osakabehime proved that to be difficult and had to ask for help from his Servants to drag her out of her room and into the showers.
There was no way Mortem would let her sit in her room for weeks, and when he ever walked in her, he saw trash bags littered everywhere and a smell that would be difficult to get out even with magecraft. He had to throw out the bags and clean the room with the help of his clones and psychic abilities. He then had to ask Medea and other Casters to see if they could get the smell out. It took 3 Castors and a promise that if Mortem made his famous sandwiches, they'd be the first to know.
Once Mortem finished his recap of what happened today. To the looks of despair and grimace on Ritsuka and Mash's faces. The duo wanted to say something, but all they could do was a shared feeling of pity. Ritsuka is a little jealous of the fact that Mortem has a contract with 60 percent of the Servants but learns that somehow most of the Servants he forms a contract with aren't the best mentally and, in a flick of the wrist, could cause chaos on a whim because they were feeling bored. That and had an aura of evil which made staff and sometimes Rituska made them unapproachable. Still, somehow Mortem made them feel like they belonged and made them fit in. She was even surprised that some of his Servants had crushes on him and knew to steal his clothes.
He made contracts with Oni, Beast, and Outer Gods and somehow bonded with them to treat Mortem not as a Master but as a comrade to die and fight for. It was astounding and inspiring to Ritsuka and Mash to try harder and push herself because she wasn't the only one fighting.
Mortem's clone returned with food and reminded her that tomorrow was Movie night. Ristuka, before she could get a bite of her food, froze, visibly showing that she had forgotten. Mortem told them both that it was his turn to select a movie anyway, and the child Servants have been hounding him to see which movie he'll play. He'll make it a surprise, but it's a good movie. He reassured them both at the end.
Mash and Ritsuka told Mortem about their Material run, and he listened attentively while eating, then forgetting Fou went back in his hoodie pocket to sleep again.
When they finished eating, Ritsuka felt better but still wanted some rest. Mash took Fou from Mortem's hoodie pocket, carefully cradling the former Beast of humanity. They said their goodbyes as Mortem left the cafeteria along with a clone that left the kitchen, only to disappear in a puff of smoke.
When Gudako made it to her room, she turned to look at her first Servant Mash, who had been with her through thick and thin, along with Mortem, who she considered both family.
"Mash, do you think our lives will be the same when we finish this journey?" Gudako often asked herself before she went to sleep. She asked Mortem this same question along with a handful of Servants, but they all had different answers to the question that was so complex for Ritsuka.
Ritsuka often thought of her family. Would they be able to recognize her after this? Would she fit back into society without jumping at shadows and being on guard at every corner?
Ritsuka knows her body is scarred and unbefitting for a Japanese woman her age, and most people would be intimidated seeing scars on her body and having the endurance of a prime Olympic athlete.
"Senpai, I know I don't have much experience with life outside of Chaldea, but I know we will carry this experience until we die when we finish this journey. But it shouldn't stop us from moving forward." Mash had a hint of determination in her eyes. "Plus, I want us to be together when this is over so I can meet your family and Mortem."
Ritsuka's fire was flaring up upon hearing Mash's speech. I should keep moving forward. I'm not the only one carrying this burden. Mash, Mortem, and everyone else is holding their own.
Ritsuka didn't even know she had tears coming from her eyes till Mash pulled out a handkerchief. She took the cloth and thanked Mash. It was what she needed to hear.
The Master of Humanity bid her favorite Kohai farewell as she took a well-deserved nap in her room.
