Merlon is our King

The story of Jack and Kevin's flight to freedom was retold regularly over the next few days that Arthur knew that it would be the stuff of Hogwarts legend: within a week, even those that were eyewitnesses were half convinced they saw the twins dive bomb Umbridge on their brooms and pelt her with Dungbombs before they zoomed out of the doors.

In the immediate aftermath of their departure, there was a wave of talk about copying them. Arthur would frequently hear students say things like "Honestly, some days I just feel like jumping on my broom and leaving this place" or "One more lesson like that and I might just do a Merlon".

Jack and Kevin made sure no one would forget them too soon. For one thing, they didn't leave instructions on how to remove the swamp that filled the corridor on the fifth floor of the east wing.

Umbridge and Filch were observed trying out different ways of removing it, but had no success. Eventually, the area was roped off and Filch, gnashing his teeth furiously, was given the task of punting students across it to their classrooms.

Arthur was sure that teachers like McGonagall and Flitwick could remove the swamp in an instant but, just as in the case of the twins' Wildfire Mega-bangs, they preferred to watch Umbridge struggle.

Now inspired by the twins' example, many of the students now vied for the newly vacant position of Troublemakers in Chief.

Someone had managed to slip in a hairy snouted Niffler into Umbridge's office, which tore the place apart in search for shiny objects, leapt onto Umbridge when she entered and gnawed the rings off her stubby fingers.

Dungbombs and Stink Pellets were also dropped so frequently in the corridors that it was now common to see students performing Bubble Head Charms on themselves before leaving lessons, which would allow them to breathe fresh air, even though they looked like they wore upside down goldfish bowls on their heads.

Filch would prowl the corridors with a horsewhip ready in his hands, desperate to catch miscreants, though the problem was that there were so many of them that he never knew which way to turn.

The Inquisitorial Squad were attempting to help, yet odd things kept happening to them. Warrington of the Slytherin Quidditch team reported to the hospital wing with a horrible skin complaint that made him look like he was coated in cornflakes; and Pansy Parkinson, much to Chrys' delight, missed all her lessons the following day when she sprouted antlers.

It also became clear just how many Skiving Snackboxes the twins managed to sell before they left Hogwarts.

Umbridge had only entered her classroom for the students to faint, vomit, develop dangerous fevers or spout blood from both nostrils. She shrieked with rage and frustration as she attempted to trace the mysterious symptoms to their source, yet the students kept telling her stubbornly that they suffered from 'Umbridge-itis'. After putting four successive classes in detention and failing to discover their secret, she was forced to just give up and allow the bleeding, swooning, sweating and vomiting students to leave her classes in droves.

But not even them could compare to the master of chaos that is Peeves, who took Jack's parting words deeply to heart.

Cackling madly, he soared throughout the school, upending tables, bursting out of blackboards, toppling statues and vases; twice he shut Mrs Norris into a suit of armour, from which she was rescued, yowling loudly, by the furious caretaker. Peeves also smashed lanterns and snuffed out candles, juggled burning torches over the heads of screaming students, caused neatly stacked piles of parchment to topple into fires or out of windows; flooded the entire second floor when he pulled off all the taps in the bathrooms, dropped a bag of tarantulas in the middle of the Great Hall during breakfast and, whenever he fancied a break, would spend hours at a time floating along after Umbridge and blowing raspberries every time she spoke.

None of the staff except for Filch were bothering to help. If anything, a week after the twins' departure, Arthur saw McGonagall walking past Peeves, who was determined to loosen a crystal chandelier, and he actually heard her tell the poltergeist out of the corner of her mouth "It unscrews the other way".

To cap it all off, Montague still didn't recover from his sojourn in the toilet; he still remained confused and disoriented with his parents being seen one Tuesday morning striding up the front drive, looking extremely angry.

"This is brilliant." Chrys said as she looked through the Charms window to see them marching inside. "They deserve to be angry, considering how much of a twat their son is."

Arthur was busy with charming his teacup, which sprouted legs.

With only under a month to go until the exams, every free moment was devoted to revision and Arthur was able to keep his mind from whatever is in the Department of Mysteries, which he is still not dreaming about as he is still closing his mind.

"And if Montague doesn't recover before Slytherin plays against Hufflepuff, we'll have a higher chance to win the Cup." David said with a grin during break when they were in the weak May sunshine in the courtyard.

"Yeah, we've won both matches and if Slytherin loses to Hufflepuff next Saturday…." Arthur said, trailing off when he saw Cho Chang walk across the courtyard, avoiding looking at him.

The final match of the Quidditch season finally came, Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw, which was to take place on the last weekend of May. Though Slytherin was narrowly defeated by Hufflepuff in their match, Gryffindor was still anxious about their chances to win, partly because they now have poor Beaters.

"Now I know how you must have felt during that match against Slytherin in third year." David said to Arthur over breakfast on the morning of the match.

The two boys entered the changing rooms, both remaining silent the entire time as they changed into their uniforms and listened to Angelina's pre match speech, wishing everyone good luck.

Then they all walked out into the pitch and Lee Jordan, who has been very dispirited since the twins left, was commentating as usual. Arthur saw that Cho was talking animatedly to Roger Davies as they prepared to mount their brooms.

The entire match became nothing but one blur for Arthur.

All he recollected was the first goal came from Davies, who narrowly scored past David's attempt to catch the Quaffle.

All he did was just focus on finding the Snitch, which proved to be more emotional than expected, considering his opposing Seeker was Cho, who he didn't talk to since their falling out.

But by some miracle, the blur of a match ended with a glorious victory for Gryffindor.

Arthur was able to catch the Snitch and held it out in euphoria for everyone to see.

And what made it all the more brilliant was only that Umbridge looked like she wanted to kill, but that the Gryffindors all reworked the 'Merlon is our King' song as David was on the shoulders of Arthur and Angelina.

Merlon is our King,

Merlon is our King,

He didn't let the Quaffle in,

Merlon is our King.

Merlon can save anything,

He never leaves a single ring,

That's why Gryffindors all sing:

Merlon is our King.

Merlon is our King,

Merlon is our King,

He didn't let the Quaffle in,

Merlon is our King….

"WE DID IT!" Arthur yelled as David waved the silver Quidditch Cup in the air. "WE WON!"

There was a scrum at the door of the castle and David's head was bumped on the lintel, though no one wanted to put him down.

Still singing, the crowd squeezed into the Entrance Hall and out of sight.

Eventually, Arthur found Chrys, who looked like something was on her mind, so he parted from Mike, who wanted to do nothing but kiss his boyfriend, and walked up to her.

"Are you alright?" He asked.

"Hagrid just showed me his giant half brother, Grawp, and expects us to care for him if he's ever chucked out."

I truly apologise for how short this chapter is, but considering there's very little details about the match, I had little to write, plus, considering that Arthur is still in the team, what else can I do?
