Shego didn't really want to take the tutoring job for this Senor Senior, but she needed to get away from Drakken for a while. Not only had Drakken almost kissed her, but she had encouraged it. The only reason that kiss didn't happen was because of Hank. (Fucking Hank- she swears she would kill him if he wasn't on Drakken's payroll.) The more she thought about it, the more her head throbbed. Why was she upset that Hank stopped the kiss from happening? She should be thanking him, but instead, she wanted to claw his eyes out. She sighed. No way she was having this conversation with herself. She had no feelings. None. She just got caught up in a moment of intimacy. I guess her father was right all along- dancing really is one of the most intimate things you could do.
When she arrived at Senor Senior Senior's lair, her mouth fell open. These people are filthy rich. She knocked on the door and waited for it to open. "Good afternoon, Shego. Thanks for coming!" She eyed him up and down. This man had to be at least 65 years old. What on earth was he needing her for? He gestured to her to come in, so she walked into the lair, looking around at the amount of high tech they had. Drakken would die if he saw all this stuff, she thought but shook her head of the thought. No Drakken while she was here.
"It looks like you have the lair of a villain down," she said as he showed her around.
"Oh, yes. I don't need your expertise for me."
"You don't?" She stopped walking when they reached the back porch. Outside of the screen door, she could see a pool. In a tanning chair was a tall, muscular man.
Senior shook his head. "I need you here to teach my son, Senor Senior Junior. I've tried everything, but he's just got no common sense when it comes to villainy!" Sounds familiar. She shook her head again. No Drakken, she reminded herself.
"What have you tried with him?"
"Well, we've been practicing his evil laugh."
She took her eyes away from Junior and glared at Senior. "His evil laugh?"
He crossed his arms. "Yeah. Every villain needs an evil laugh."
Shego groaned. This was going to be a long two weeks.
…
Junior was a good student. He took all of her words to heart, and she actually didn't mind his company. He even stole more than she had told him too when they went on their little field trip.
"Next step is the plot. Every villain must have their own plot," she found herself telling Junior. "Take Drakken for example. His plot, always taking over the world." She put her hands on her hips and rolled her eyes. "Always." She regretted bringing him up. She had been so involved in teaching Junior the last few days that she almost forgot why she was here in the first place- avoiding Drakken.
"Oh! Can we do that?" Junior asked, enthusiastically. She had to hand it to the guy. He was willing to learn.
She shook her head. "No. You gotta walk before you can run, sport. Let's start small."
"More thieving?" He asked.
"Great idea. It's got to be something big. Something really valuable and heavily guarded."
Just then, Senior walked in. "What are you two up to?"
"Oh father, will you give us some space, please!" Junior stomped his foot like a three year old, which reminded her of another person who sometimes acted like a three year old. She rolled her eyes at her own thoughts.
"Yeah, yeah, we don't really need your input here," Shego said, walking Senior to the door of the office turned classroom. She practically shoved him out the door and turned back to Junior. "Now, where were we?"
"Something really valuable and heavily guarded?"
"Right! Now let's see. What is something that we can steal?"
Junior sat down at the computer. "I know. Why don't we just look up something really valuable and heavily guarded?"
Shego slapped her hand on her forehead. "You can't just look up online something-"
"I got it!"
Her eyes grew at the amount of results that came up. She grinned at the list. "This is going to be sweet.
…
Shego tossed and turned in her hotel bed. She had spent the last few days preparing Junior for the theft of his life; combat training, avoiding security, and dodging alarms. She was exhausted, but she couldn't sleep. She'd only been here for four days, but she was ready to go home, which was weird because she found herself enjoying the art of teaching. She almost forgot what it was like. Plus, Junior was easy to work with. He listened, obeyed, and he really put his everything into what she had asked him to do. He was a model student. She briefly wondered if Drakken would be happier with someone like Junior who would submit to his every command (that would explain the compliance chip he put on her months ago). Would Junior make a better partner to Drakken than she was? Her thoughts were spiraling. Argh! She was sick of this. She just needed to get over it and call him. Just get the awkward conversation out of the way so that we can go back to normal.
While still in bed, she reached for the hotel phone and dialed his number (okay, so she had it memorized. That was normal, right?)
"Hello?" He sounded groggy, like she had just woken him up. She looked at the clock and cursed herself under her breath. It was 2 am, and she was calling him, and for what, she didn't even know.
"Hey Doc, it's me." She mentally slapped herself. Why was she being so stupid?
"Shego. Uh, hi. Is everything alright?"
"Yes. I just wanted to check in and see how you were doing." Since when did she give a shit about how anyone was doing? Was she- she gulped- going soft?
"Oh. Everything is good over here. I'm coming up with a new idea. There's a genius machine that makes whoever uses it a million times smarter than they already are." He was dumbing it down for her in the nicest way possible, and she appreciated the gesture. She never could grasp his scientific terminology. "Anyway, I figured we could steal it, and it'll help me come up with the best way to take over the world."
She smiled into the phone. "That sounds great, Doc."
It was silent for a moment before he spoke. "Shego?"
"Hmm?"
"Are you sure everything is okay?"
She turned to her side so that the cord on the phone wasn't so stretched. "Yeah Drakken. I'm good. I'm just-" She stopped before she could say what she wanted to: homesick. "You know Senor Senior Senior?"
Drakken chuckled. "Of course. He's a filthy rich guy that is fairly new at being evil. Why?"
"He is having me teach his son the trade of villainy."
"Oh." He sounded annoyed, but he played it off. "How's that going?"
"Oh you know, it's interesting. That's for sure. I don't know if he has it in him though."
"No?" Drakken coughed. She could tell he had turned his head away from the phone to do so, but she could still hear him.
"Well," she continued. "He's a good listener, and he does try. He's learning rather quickly. I just don't think he really cares either way, you know?"
"So you think you're wasting your time because he'll just go back to doing whatever it was he was doing before you got there?"
She smiled. He knew her so well that he could fill in the blanks of her own thoughts. "Exactly. There's no passion. No drive. Nothing that has gone wrong in his life to turn him to evil. It's a game to him. It's not real."
"I could see how that would be frustrating." She could hear him smile through his words.
"How did it go with Amy?" she heard herself asking without really thinking about it.
"Oh, uh-" he paused for a moment. "I don't think she and I are right for each other."
Oh?" Her heart pounded faster, but she quickly dismissed it as anxiety about the direction this conversation is about to take.
"Yeah. She just- it was-" he stuttered trying to come up with the right words. "Remember when you said dancing is one of the most intimate things you can do?"
She raised an eyebrow. "Yeah?"
"Well, when I was dancing with her, it made me realize that I just didn't want to be that intimate with her."
She felt a grin grow on her face even though she should be sad about it. "Well that kind of blows."
"Yeah, but that is quite alright. I have my work to focus on. And uh- Shego- about the other day when you were teaching me how to-"
"Don't even mention it, Doc." She sat up on the bed, holding the phone close to her ear. "Nothing happened."
He cleared his throat. "Yeah, yeah. You're right. Nothing happened."
She sighed. He wanted to talk about it. She could hear the longing in his voice. "Drakken, it was the moment, alright? It wasn't us. It was the Waltz and the intimacy of it. That is it, right?"
"Yeah. You're right, Shego. It was nothing."
She sighed. Her heart began beating faster, and her stomach dropped. Why did she suddenly feel like shit? "So we're good?"
"Yeah, we're good."
There was a moment of silence before she spoke. "Dr. D?"
"Hmm?"
"I'll be home soon, and we can go after the genius machine thingy."
He chuckled. "I look forward to it."
Shego smiled when she hung up. Her and Drakken were good, and suddenly sleep came much easier to her as she dozed off.
