Shego was sitting in their lounging area flipping through a magazine when she heard him from the other side of the lair. "Yes! I did it! I finally did it!" She smirked. It had been two weeks since the chemical spill in the lab (2 long weeks of him being so absorbed in his work that she had to practically force him to take breaks for lunch), and she was over dealing with the outcomes of his lack of sleep (talk about mood swings much) and his lack of hygiene (he would literally forget about showering until she brought it up).
"Shego!" He came bursting into the lounge. "I did it! I created a chemical mutation-" he stopped. "Are you even listening to me?"
She flipped a page in her magazine. "Yeah, yeah. I'm listening. Chemical mutation. Go on."
He grinned. "As I was saying, this chemical mutation agent will-" He stopped when someone burst through the lair, glowing blue. "Kim Possible! But I haven't,- we haven't done anything yet! Wait, since when do you glow?"
Shego's eyes went wide. "Like Hego?" she growled.
Hego and Mego walked into her line of view next to Kim. "Hey sis!" Both of them said at the same time. "You know you missed my birthday," Mego said. "A phone call or a card would have been nice."
Shego crossed her arms, and Drakken looked between Shego and her brothers. "Uh, I believe some introductions are in order."
Shego's frown had managed to turn more upside down then it already was. "Can you excuse us, Dr.D.?" She said walking toward her brothers.
Drakken ran in front of her. "Oh no. Now Shego, as long as you live under my roof, you follow my rules. And rule number 1 is no secrets! So whatever is going on-" He stopped when Shego's hands ignited, and her face began to twitch in anger. "Is obviously a private matter," he finished, backing away from her. He ran toward the door but turned back to her. "But I do think of us as a kind of evil family, and families stick together! So if you need me-" Shego didn't have the heart to blast him, but she did blast the door next to him as a warning shot. "I'll be there for you," he finished, his voice high-pitched in fear before turning around and leaving her with her brothers and Kim.
Kim grinned at Shego. "Drakken was being overly nice to you, huh?"
Shego groaned and ignited her hands. "Why are all my least favorite people gathered here together like some sort of club?"
"Avarius," Kim said.
"He has the twins, sis," Hego said, moving toward her. "We have to help them."
She raised an eyebrow. "And I should care, why? I left Team Go and began working for someone who wants to take over the world." She poked Hego's chest. "I am evil! Evil! Do you get it now?"
"What?" Hego frowned.
Mego put himself between Shego and Hego. "Come on, sis. Just help us out. Or are you scared because of what Avarius did to you last time you-"
Shego's hands ignited once again "Oh do not even! I am so not scared of that bird face."
Mego smirked. "Prove it."
"NYGH! Let's just go!" She stormed out of the lair and toward their hover car.
"Nice job, Mego," Kim said.
"What can I say? My sister came with a manual." He laughed as Hego high fived him.
…..
Shego took another shot of tequila, and her mind was spiraling. The last few days had been absolute hell. She had to fight an old arch nemesis. She had to see her stupid brothers. She had to help Kim Possible. Drakken was now aware of her hero past, and she knew him well enough to know that he was not going to let that information go. And to make everything worse, Drakken had been right. Shego had an opportunity to have all of her brothers' powers, but she didn't even put up a fight to keep the wand. She practically handed it over to Kimmie. The thought made her take another shot of tequila.
"I thought I might find you here," she heard a familiar voice. How he found her at one of the thousands of bars in this city, she had no idea. Drakken sat down next to her, but she refused to acknowledge his existence. "Can I have a bud light, please?" he asked the bartender, who was quick to get him his drink. He looked at Shego, who had her eyes down on an empty shot glass. "And can you get her another shot of tequila?"
Shego looked up at him then, who was grinning at her. "What?" She finally asked.
He took a drink of his beer. "I came to rescue you, and I haven't heard a thank you or anything."
"I didn't need rescuing." Shego slammed her shot, and her senses were starting to blur together.
She stood up, and he followed her, tipping the bartender before heading out. When she reached the balcony, he took in the view of the city, and he appreciated that they were alone up here. She glanced up at the sky, mesmerized by the stars. "Shego, why didn't you tell me you were a hero?"
"Would you have hired me if you knew?" She shot back but didn't look at him. Her eyes were now straightforward, taking in the beautiful architecture. "You aren't even looking at me the same way anymore," she mumbled.
Instead of answering her question, he took a step forward so that he was right next to her. "I talk about myself and my past a lot."
She laughed. "Yeah, I know."
He shrugged. "It's your turn." He brushed a strand of her hair back, and at that moment he was grateful she was drunk. Sober Shego would not be playing this game.
She sighed. "I was 15 when the rainbow comet struck my family."
Drakken nodded. "It gave you and your brothers your superpowers."
"While simultaneously killing both my parents." She kept her eyes forward, not bothering to look at Drakken. She couldn't.
He reached over and placed his hand over hers, and he squeezed her hand. "Shego, I-"
She shrugged him off, moving her hand away from him. She finally met his stare. "I don't need pity, Doc." He nodded, hoping she'd continue. Thankfully, her drunken state had allowed her to open up more than normal. "Hego was legally an adult- 19- but he had to prove to the state that he was responsible and capable of caring for us. If he hadn't, we all would have been separated."
Drakken filled in the blanks. "So he thought Team Go was the best option for all of you? It used your powers for good, and it showed the state that he was responsible."
She nodded. "It got the state off his back. At least for a while, but once they found out about our powers and what we could do, they wanted to do tests on us. We were like lab rats, and we couldn't do anything about it. All they had to do was threaten Hego with separating us. The twins were only 12. He wouldn't let that happen."
Drakken's mouth fell open. Her persistence on not being involved with cloning and mind control suddenly made sense. It was not just her being stubborn and mouthy (although he was sure that played a significant role), but she had been studied, poked, and violated already. She had had enough. "So you left Team Go?"
She shook her head. "Not at first. Hego fought for us, so I fought for them. But my brothers are just so incompetent. They were lazy and couldn't do anything right. Literally the second I left, Team Go fell apart. They couldn't do anything without me; it was kind of pathetic." She signed, still not looking at Drakken. "When my parents died, Hego suddenly became the parental figure, but he was still a kid too, you know? He pushed heroism on us so that we could stay together, but it wasn't what any of us really wanted. The twins were just hitting puberty, Mego was a self absorbed brat, and I-" she paused for a minute, taking another deep breath. "I felt trapped. It was like Hego chained me to him. He didn't want to let me go, so instead, he suffocated me."
Drakken put a hand on her shoulder, bringing her backward to him slightly. "Shego," he started to say, but she didn't let him finish. She turned to face him, and her face was stained with drunken tears. "I was so sick of heroism, Doc. I was put on some stupid pedestal that I didn't ask to be on. I wanted freedom."
Drakken nodded slowly as he reached for her hand. "Is that why you go easy on Kim? Because she is a reflection of your past?" She took a step away from him as her eyes grew wide. "Come on, Shego. I'm not stupid. I once watched you kill 6 people in less than a minute. I know you aren't trying that hard with Kim."
Her silent cries suddenly become louder, drunker cries. "I'm sorry," she whispered.
"Hey," Drakken said as he stepped back into her personal bubble. "It's- forget I mentioned it okay?" She nodded, and he was grateful for her drunken state. If he was lucky, she wouldn't remember this conversation tomorrow. However, her cries didn't settle, and he found himself playing with the ends of her hair. "What do you need from me?"
She glanced up to meet his eyes, and her lips turned upright in a smile slightly. "Can we just be here for a minute?"
He nodded slightly as he wrapped his arms around Shego in a hug. She reciprocated his actions and let her arms snake around his waist. With her face buried in his chest, she let more tears fall out. When she moved her face so that her cheek was resting on his chest rather than her face, she spoke. "You were right, Doc."
His arms were still wrapped around her, and he squeezed her slightly. "About what?"
"I gave that wand to Possible. I wanted my brothers to have their powers back."
He stroked her jet black hair. He knew the only reason she was being so vulnerable and so touchy was the alcohol, but he wanted to soak it in while he had the chance. "Yeah, you have a soft spot for your brothers. That's fine, Shego," he whispered. "I have one for my mother. And for-" he stopped before he could say it.
She untangled herself from him, and she found herself missing his warmth the second his arms left her. "For what?" He took a small step away from her, but his eyes stayed locked on hers. "For me?" she finally asked.
He shrugged. "I do think of us as kind of an evil family, you know."
She smiled slightly. "Don't forget that when you're successful in world domination."
He smirked at her. "Oh, and why's that?"
"That way you remember that half of it is rightfully mine."
He chuckled. "How could I forget?"
