Lupine snipped at the dead greenery in her greenhouse when she felt a buzz in pocket. She smiled as she watched Hawkmoth's message. A little cash and jewelry never hurt, and if she saw the heroes pass by, she was sure to invite them in. She dialed the number on the screen, not at all when the number came up as unknown….
Cat's Pov…..
"Aunt Amile are the cookies cool yet?" I ask, dragging my stuffed cat behind me. I like the eyes on this particular cat because it has real button eyes. However, I have to careful because one of its eyes is starting to come loose. Mother and Auntie offered to sew it back on, but I said no. "Now, Adrien," Aunt Amile says with a light laugh. "The cookies just came out of the oven. I know how much you love ginger, but if you eat them now, you'll burn your tongue! I'll let you and Felix know when there ready."
I wake up craving those ginger cookies, and I mumble a little. "Wish I had one of Aunt Amile's cookies right now." "Isn't it a little early in the morning to be thinking of cookies?" A voice asks. I gasp and sit up, seeing Kagami's grinning face. I place a hand on my chest and smile back at her. "Kagami, you scared me! I thought I was alone in the room." "Sounds like you want to be alone with those cookies. Wait, did you say Aunt Amile?"
Oh, sugar and spices. Would Ladybug really mind if I told Kagami? After all, I thought is only Ladybug who didn't want to know, and I don't want to lie. "Claws In. Hi, Kagami. Its me, Adrien."
Kagami's mouth drops open as my mask falls away. "Adrien?" she whispers, like she can't believe. "Yeah, its me. Bet your never thought it was, especially since I tell so many cat jokes." Her next reaction surprises me. "Adrien!" she squeals and engulfs me in a hug. "I'm so glad you didn't die in the Paris Fire." My throat grows tight. "Good to see you too, Kagami. But don't say anything about the fire to M'lady. She was tossing and turning yesterday during our nap." "You-you haven't told her your Adrien?" "She wants to me, but she's scared of losing me once her mask comes off. At least she was at first. Just when we're about get close. We have another setback."
"Reveal or no reveal, you two have come such a long way since we we're teenagers. I'm proud of you both." "Bet you wouldn't be proud if you found out this Kitty got beat up by a bunch of crows." "I do find that surprising, but with you two staring into each others eyes, I can't say I blame them when they decided to strike." We burst out giggling, and it feels so good to laugh with one of my dearest friends, and a heavy weight lifts from my shoulders.
"So, any plans for kids yet?" I ask. Kagami smiles a soft smile, patting her stomach. "I don't think it will be long now." My mouth drops open. "Are you…." "Not yet, but soon. Have you and Ladybug talked at all about kids. You'd make a wonderful father, Adrien."
I sigh, playing with the satin lining of the sheets, the motion calming me. "Would I? My father is so cold, so isolated. When my mother died, he shut everything out even love." "Adrien, your not your father. Your you. And I wouldn't think the girl behind the mask would let that happen."
"Is it okay to say that I'm scared?" "It takes bravery to say those words out loud, so yes. But don't let fear stand in the way, Adrien."
The door cracks open just then, and Ladybug pokes her head in, rubbing her eyes. "I'm detransfromed!" I hiss at Kagami. "What to do I do?" Kagami sighs. "That's the Adrien I remember," she whispers back giggling. "Hide under the sheets until your ready."
"Feeling shy, love?" Ladybug teases. "Ooh, or did you finally get bed hair and didn't wake up looking perfect?" "Claws Out!" "My Lady, your are extremely sassy for this early in the morning, and this Kitty loves it."
"I mean, I brought a couple of bowls of oatmeal and juice, but I don't want to interrupt your conversation…." her voice trails off. "No, no. We're good. I think I'll find Felix. Good chatting with you, Cat." "Have fun!" I give her a wink and she gives me a thumbs up. Heh, I know what they'll be doing for breakfast, and its not eating food.
"We're you...We're you detransformed earlier?" Ladybug asks, spooning up some cearl. "It was a accident, love. I was dreaming of my aunt's ginger cookie recipe, and I didn't know I wasn't the only one in the room, and her name slipped out. Your not mad, are you?" I hold my breath, waiting for her answer. "Why would I be mad? Felix knows who I am under the mask. I guess you could say were even." I can't help feel just a bit jealous. "How is it so easy to tell him, and not me, your partner?" Ladybug closes her eyes. "Cat, your more then a partner and I do have feelings for you. Strong feelings. I just don't know what I'd do if you were captured, and I miss….." her voice trails off. "Who? Who do you miss, Bugaboo?" "Never mind. Looks like those scraps will be healed in no time, and we can get back to traveling."
She comes over and gives me a light kiss. "I need to get ready for the day before I scare someone with my hair." I sigh, now I wonder who it could possibly be that she misses. Then it hits me. She misses me as Adrien. But how do I let her know Adrien is here, without revealing?" Arrgh, why is life so complicated?!
Sitting in bed won't help me though, and I wonder where Kagami and Felix are. Oh, that's right. But by lunchtime, no one has seen them, and its not like they can just disappear. Ladybug is busy in the kitchen with Aria, and when I ask if she wants to take a walk in the gardens she shakes her head. "We're working on a surprise, now shoo," she laughs.
I wander down to the fountain, staring at my reflection in the water. The gentle gurgle of the water lulls me to sleep, and I fall into a daydream.
Instead of fighting villains, I'm fighting with dirty diapers. And having fun with finger paint and making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunches. Though like it is in all dreams, my kids faces are blurry, but I can hear their giggles and feel their hugs.
I snap out of my dream, and my heart feels heavy, but not sad. I want those things to be real, I do want kids.
My stomach interrupts my dreaming though, and I head inside for lunch. Ladybug is in line, and I join her. "Love the new style. It suits you." Two little buns grace the top of her head, reminding me when she wore the Mouse Miraculous. "Aw, your sweet," she leans over kissing my cheek. I hear a collection of "Awws" from the ladies who work behind the serving counter and I blush.
Just then Kagami and Felix (as Argos) burst into the room, and make a beeline for us. "Ladybug, we need to talk to you, now!" Argos hisses. "Okay, this sounds serious. Just let us put our trays down."
We follow Kagami and Argos into a quiet hallway and I noticed both them look extremely disheveled. "We were almost captured," Kagami tells us. "Captured! By who, and how?" "A lady saw Felix and I out in the woods and she mistook us as you two," she says. "She carried this vial of some sort thing that helps you sleep, and demanded we hand over our Miraculous. Her name was Lupine."
"Give me a full description of her," Ladybug says, all business now. Once Kagami and Felix are done, she snaps her bug phone shut. "Good work. But what could she be after?" "Power, money, and jewelry and hard to pass up," Argos says.
That afternoon, we pack up saying goodbye to Aria and Kagami and Felix. "Remember what I told you," Kagami whispers in my ear. "Keep being brave, Adrien Agreste."
When Ladybug comes back through the portal, we wave goodbye, following the map to the forest that Aria gave us. "Now that we're vigilantes, we shouldn't trust anyone willingly, Kitty." I nod, taking her hand. That's such a shame, for we love making new friends.
The going to still a little slow, for my injuries haven't all the way healed yet. Before we left, Aria promised to see if the birds would talk, but we had to set them free.
We camp in a small shelter, mid-afternoon for a slight rain storm is passing through. Ladybug leans her head on my shoulder, occasionally pressing kisses into my suit.
Lupine is a expert of hiding, for she knows the way around plants, watching the heroes as they rest and shelter from the rain. A green vial of plants is hidden in the folds of her skirt, perhaps they would like to take a short nap? But she has been told only to observe for now, and stay hidden. After ending her call with Hawkmoth, Lupine had rolled her eyes. She took orders from no one, even a man with superpowers.
Patchy fog started to appear as the day came to close, and Lupine watched Ladybug and Cat divide the evening chores. She spat into the dirt, yuk. All that harmony, all that love. She had never been loved, so she wanted power and respect instead. Maybe she would get the Miraculous instead. But then again, she did love her plants and green things. And money was green, wasn't it? Ah, it was only a matter of time until one of them slipped up and she'd be waiting.
