Drakken kissed her when she opened her eyes. He didn't care that the two teens were watching. He didn't care that he just confessed his love for Shego in front of his arch foe. (Was she really an arch foe at this point? They did just save the world together). He didn't care about anything other than the fact that she was alive. His kiss was gentle, and she coughed and groaned in pain when he pulled his lips away from hers. He rested his forehead against hers and whispered to her. "Don't ever do that to me again."
She smiled softly, but it quickly faded when she coughed again. "Sorry."
Kim wiped away a tear from her face as she watched the scene unfold. She and Shego had their ups and downs, but she never wanted to see her die, and she was so glad that she was alright. On top of that, Drakken's reaction to Shego's state had made Kim emotional. "Do you need help getting her home?"
Before Drakken could answer, Shego was trying to lift herself up, her bones cracking all over her body as she moved. "You two need to go graduate," she said as she tried to hide the excruciating pain shooting up and down her body.
Drakken guided her, helping her stand up. Kim smiled at them. "Thanks." Ron and Kim turned to leave, but Kim turned back around and wrapped her arms around Shego in a hug. "I'm glad you're okay," she whispered in her ear. "Now, stop being an idiot and go tell him you love him."
Shego surprised herself when she hugged Kim back. "Yeah, yeah, whatever, princess. Just go get your diploma, and try not to get abducted this time."
Kim smirked as she pulled away from her. "I'll do my best."
Shego smiled back at her. "You always do."
Once Kim and Ron left, Drakken wrapped his arm around Shego's waist and helped her walk to the hovercar. "Let's go home."
"Doc, the new lair was destroyed," Shego mumbled as she leaned on him for support.
"Yeah, we're probably going to have to go to my mother's."
Shego groaned- whether that be from the pain or from the fact that they were going to see Mama Lipsky- she honestly didn't know. "Great."
….
They were both tired when they arrived at Mama Lipsky's. It had been a long day after all. Once Drakken explained the situation to his mother (and after she stopped freaking out at the fact that her son just saved the world from alien invasion), Mrs. Lipsky offered them the guest bedroom. "Of course, you two must be exhausted! Drewbie, be a dear and take Shego upstairs. I'll go get some new sheets for the bed."
Once they were situated, Drakken and Shego laid down next to each other. Shego tried to close her eyes, but she felt Drakken's eyes on her. "Yes?"
He cleared his throat. "It's just, uh, I'm a little worried since you hit your head so hard that you-" he stopped. He couldn't finish his sentence. He couldn't think about it.
"That I'll fall asleep and not wake up?" she asked. He slowly nodded his head, and she sighed deeply. "I've had worse things happen to me, Doc. I'm fine. Go to sleep." They needed to talk. She knew they needed to talk. There was so much to unpack about what happened today, but she was tired, and she needed rest before she could have the conversation she wanted to have.
"Goodnight, Shego," he whispered as he closed his eyes, but now she was the one with her eyes open, unable to sleep. Her thoughts spiraled. Not only did he get abducted, but he was tortured. He was tortured because Warmonga thought he had her kill 57 people. He paid the cost for something she did. He never once asked her to kill someone. Did it happen when she was stealing something he had asked her to steal? Sure, but he never once ordered her to kill. She did that entirely on her own.
The visual of the collar on his neck shocking him did not leave her mind. Thinking about the way he screamed in agony made her chest tighten. Was he okay? Did he need medical attention? Her heart pounded loudly, and tears threatened to come to the surface. "Doc?" He opened his eyes and met hers, and that is all it took for her to lose it. Her sobs were uncontrollable as the tears kept rolling down her face. "That collar-"
She couldn't say anymore, but she didn't have to. He knew what she meant, and Drakken's eyes filled with tears when he realized out of everything that happened today, his pain was what she was struggling with. "Come here." He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close. Her sobs did not slow down, and he stroked her hair to comfort her. "Shhhh. It's okay. We're fine. We're safe."
"She wanted me to watch you die," she sobbed into his chest. "If I lost you, I-'' She didn't know what she'd do. If she lost him, she wouldn't have had a reason to keep fighting. The thought made her clench onto his shirt as she snuggled in closer to him and intertwined one of her legs with his under the blanket.
He kissed the top of her head. He had no clue what was said while he was in that shipping container, but he did see Shego fight like hell to get him out of it. Knowing that Warmonga wanted him to die and for Shego to see it made his insides twist with anxiety. "I'm here, Shego. I'm not going anywhere."
Shego lifted her head up to face him, and looking into his eyes made her feel at home. Those piercing black eyes made her feel safe and at peace, which was funny considering three hours ago, she was fighting for her life against an alien invasion. She leaned up and kissed him softly. "I love you," she whispered. Her heart was about to explode. She had never once said those words to anyone in her adult life. Weakness was something she never wanted to show, but it didn't matter anymore. Nothing mattered except that they were alive, and they were together.
Drakken's eyes filled with tears again. She loved him back. Everything he was so worried about didn't matter because she loved him too. He crashed his lips to hers, kissing her with more passion than ever before. When they had to pull away for air, he cupped her cheek in his hand and rested his forehead against hers. "I love you, Shego."
She kissed him again, and before she knew it, he had flipped them so that he was on top of her, and he trailed kisses down every inch of her as they undressed.
…
The next morning, Mama Lipsky had turned on the TV. The news showed the destruction of the alien invasion. She gasped at the footage of torn apart buildings, homes wrecked and businesses collapsed. There were roads split in half and bodies smashed to bits. Her son stopped that from getting so much worse. Her Drewbie saved the day. She looked at her watch. 10:17 am. She knew she should let them sleep, but after seeing the footage, she just wanted to make sure her Drewbie was alright.
She quietly walked up the stairs and slowly creaked open the door to the guest bedroom. She grinned at the scene she just walked into. Drakken was shirtless, laying on his back while Shego was wearing his shirt with her head resting on his chest. Her arm was tightly wrapped around his stomach while his arm was snaked around her shoulder, his hand resting on top of her head. "It's about damn time," she whispered to herself. She watched their chests for a moment to ensure both of them were breathing, and then she quietly shut the door behind her on her way out. She smiled to herself as she walked back down to the kitchen. Her son was finally getting his happy ending, and all it took was an alien invasion and the near end of planet earth for him to get it. The luck of the Lipsky men, she thought as she whistled with happiness.
