Drakken sat on the couch in between Shego and Mama Lipsky and across from two agents from Global Justice. "It was brought to our attention by Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable that they couldn't have saved the world without the two of you, and the whole idea had indeed been yours, Dr. Drakken," one of the agents said, looking at Drakken. "To honor that, we'd like to pardon all of your crimes and offer you a job working for Global Justice in the science and technology department."
Mama Lipsky gasped. "Crimes? You must have the records of the wrong man because my Drewbie would never-"
Drakken laughed nervously. "Mother, could you possibly get these lovely agents something to drink? They did fly all this way after all."
She smiled. "Of course. Where are my manners?"
Once Mama Lipsky left the room, Drakken turned back to the agents. "To be clear, you would pardon both of our crimes if I came and worked for you?"
They shook their heads. "Just you."
Drakken glanced over at Shego, who smiled and nodded at him. In her own way, she was telling him to take the deal, but he had no desire. Not without her. "No. No job. No pardon. No ceremony. I don't want any of it if you don't pardon Shego as well."
Shego raised an eyebrow at him but otherwise stayed silent. He was being silly. For as long as she'd known him, all he wanted was to be recognized for his genius, and here he was with an offer to do just that, but he wasn't taking it. One of the agents cleared his throat. "Do you not realize that she is a murderer and is wanted in 11 countries?"
Drakken frowned, and he placed a hand on her thigh to help calm himself. "And do you not realize that if Shego had not risked her life to rescue me and Kim, you'd be a slave to an alien right now?"
"Dr. Drakken, if you could just-"
He shook his head. "No Shego, no me. Your choice."
The two agents looked at each other and sighed. "Alright. You got a deal."
….
At the ceremony, Drakken stood by the podium as two men placed a medal of excellence around his neck. He had asked Shego to be here with him, and she was, but she stood to the side of the stage, letting him have his moment to shine. He looked out into the crowd. On one side, there were all the villains: Dementor, Junior and Senior, Motor Ed, Killigan, and even DNAmy. In the middle, there were people he didn't know- people that were just there to praise him and recognize his genius. And on the other side, there were the heroes: the Possible team, Shego's brothers, and even his mother, who Kim took a liking toward. He smiled as his mother waved at him, and he felt surprisingly overjoyed with the fact that that was the side he was more connected to now. Her family, his family, and hell, even Possible and Stoppable, who they had an odd relationship with, all together in one place. It just felt right.
He walked up to the podium, ready to give a speech when his nerves kicked in. What the hell was he even supposed to say? Hey, sorry I tried to take over the world so many times, but thanks for this medal? His palms began to sweat, and he felt his heart rate speed up. He needed to calm down. He glanced over at her, and she smiled at him. It helped, but it wasn't enough. He needed her close, and it was like his flowers read his mind because suddenly they were stemming out of his neck and wrapping around her, pulling her next to him.
He smiled nervously at her, not knowing if she would be upset at the accidental public display of affection. She gave him a soft smile back as she stood on her tip toes and kissed him. She hadn't planned on kissing him in front of everyone, but she had spent so long denying her feelings that now she just wanted to tell the world that he was hers. Fuck what DNAmy thought or Frugal or Dementor or Motor Ed or Possible or his mother or even her brothers. It didn't matter. So what if she had a weakness? If she had learned anything from the alien invasion, it was that they were better together. He was part of who she was now. There was no Shego without Drakken, and she was done pushing her emotions to the sidelines. She was done pretending her feelings didn't exist. She loved him, and he deserved to know that.
The crowd cheered as she pulled away. She could hear his mother screaming the loudest, and it made her giggle. She gestured for him to speak, and she rested a hand on his shoulder as he turned back to the mic. "Thank you all for this incredible honor," he started. He let one hand grip the medal on his neck as he smiled. "I have always dreamed of this- of getting the highest recognition for my achievements, but I always operated under the impression that my accomplishments were mine alone. The reality is, my accomplishments wouldn't have happened at all without her." He gestured to Shego, which made her blush. "She pushed me back into my work when I was feeling unmotivated. She pulled me back to her when I was going in the wrong direction. She has saved my life more times than I can count, and when I was abducted by the Lorwadians, she was the one that stepped up and helped bring me home. Without her bravery, we wouldn't be here today. So while my invention stopped the attack from the invasion, it was Shego, with the help of Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable, who saved us all. Thank you for this award, but please also remember to recognize the contributions from Shego as well as Team Possible."
The crowd cheered as they stepped off the stage with their arms linked. Shego playfully nudged him as they walked back to their seats. She smirked at him. "What happened to 'victory will be mine' and 'they will all bow down to me as they recognize my genius?'"
He shrugged. "I guess there are other things that are more important."
"Like what?"
"You." She smiled at his words and kissed his cheek before they sat down at their table.
Shego caught eyes with her brothers and sighed. "I'll be right back." She squeezed his hand before getting up from their table and meeting her brothers at theirs, sitting in between the twins and across from Hego and Mego.
The twins hugged her, and she gladly wrapped one arm around each of them. She never really did have an issue with the Wegos- really, they had been collateral damage when she left Team Go. Mego grinned at her. "I see that you have made it back to the right side, sis."
She shrugged. "Oh, no no no. The way I see it, a clean slate is the perfect excuse to start a new record."
Mego and Hego frowned at her. "But you're working for Global Justice now," Mego said.
She smirked. "Drakken is working for Global Justice now. I, on the other hand, am free to do whatever I please."
Hego raised an eyebrow. "Sis, you just saved the world, and now you plan on returning to evil?"
She rolled her eyes. "With Drakken working for Global Justice, the crimes he could cover up are endless."
Hego suddenly laughed. "You're funny. Let me tell you exactly what's going to happen. You will want to do evil because that is who you are, but then you will think about how your actions will impact your man's job, and then you won't do it. You always seem to put him above yourself, don't you, sis?"
She shrugged again. "I suppose you might be right about that one. Should we take bets on how long that lasts?"
Hego smiled. "How is it going anyway? You know, embracing your feelings? How are your powers?"
Shego thought of everything that had happened since Hego helped her come to terms with how she felt about Drakken. Leaving him in prison, fighting with him after he replaced her with Warmonga, them deciding to just be friends, her only lasting a few months of that before they slept together once again, her powers not acting up because she was aware of her feelings and embraced it, her letting her affection for him show through even before she told him how she felt, everything that happened during the alien invasion, and her finally telling him she loved him. Her thoughts made her insides tingle as she bit her lip to repress the giggle that wanted to come out. "No more accidental burnings," she finally said. "You were right, Hego."
He smiled at her. "You seem happy for once in your life."
She smiled and nodded. She glanced back over at Drakken, who was conversing with Kim and Ron. "I am happy. He's dorky and quirky and he drives me insane, but he makes me happy."
"Good. Maybe he'll finally straighten you out," the Wegos said at the same time, which made them laugh.
She smiled and shook her head. "Oh, no my dear brothers. I'll get him back on track. I always do." With that, she got up from their table and met Drakken back at theirs, sitting next to him and across from Kim and Ron, who joined Drakken to thank him for the honorable mention.
"I'm just so glad you finally remembered my name!" Ron said, causing Kim to laugh.
Shego rolled her eyes as she placed her hand on his thigh under the table. He perked up at that, and she leaned in to whisper in his ear. "After this thing is over, you and I need some alone time." She moved her hand higher up his thigh, letting her fingers trail up as she smirked.
He stood up immediately as his face turned red. "Let's dance, shall we?"
She giggled. "Later, Kimmie."
Kim smiled at her two previous arch foes as they met some other people on the dance floor. "They are so cute, aren't they?"
Ron gagged. "I don't want to think about it, KP. Like ever." Kim smiled as she took his hand and dragged him to dance with her.
Drakken picked a song for the DJ to play, and the second the instruments started, Shego knew exactly what song it was. She groaned "Really? Why is it always this song?"
He smiled at her. "Because I was enchanted to meet you, Shego."
She rolled her eyes, but she smiled as she took his hand, and they began to dance. He spun her, and she laughed as she came back around, letting her hand grip his shoulder. As the song played, they continued to dance and laugh. The next time he spun her, she met him again and wrapped both arms around his neck. "I love you, Doc," she whispered.
He met his forehead with hers as they swayed. "I love you, too, Shego. With every fiber of my being, I love you." As the song ended, he kissed her. The world moved with the kiss as everything fell into place. He was getting the recognition he deserved, there were people they cared for surrounding them, and most importantly, they were together. Nothing could ruin this for him.
She smiled as they pulled away from each other. "Hang on." She walked up to the DJ to request a song, and when she came back to him, she smirked. "This next song is probably the best song I've ever heard."
He cupped her cheek in his hand. "Oh, and what's that?" Before she could answer, he heard his own voice in the speakers. Yo, yo, yo I used to be Drew. One day I turned blue. As a suede shoe or berry, it makes me look scary, then I ponytail my hair. He gasped as he dropped his hand from her face. "You did not!"
She laughed so hard that she had to wrap an arm around her stomach. She did a mock dance as she mouthed the words to him. My lippy sidekick Shego, she kicks me in my ego. Got some freaky glowing hands, mocks my super genius plans, makes me do my defeat dance. He tried to hide his face in between his hands, but Shego grabbed them, pulling them down to his sides as she laughed. "You're going to pay for this, you know."
She smirked. "Oooh, are you going to punish me, Dr.D?"
She gave him a seductive look, which made him crash her lips to hers. "Yeah, something like that." She smiled as she kissed him again. Whatever their future looked like- hero or villain- good or evil- it didn't even matter anymore. As long as they were together, they could take on the world, no matter which side they were on. And that, she realized, is what love looked like.
