A prequel to my story "The Two Tiffanys", set 10 years after the end of "The Shepherds Crown." Everything belongs to the late great Sir Terry Pratchett.

Once a week Tiffany Aching, Witch of The Chalk, would give her trainee witch Sara the morning off work. Instead, Tiffany would be assisted on her witches rounds by Baroness Letitia, wife of Baron Roland. Letitia wanted to help the community of The Chalk, and also keep up her witch skills. Letitia didn't just spend her free time doing water colours.

At the end of their rounds Tiffany said

"Thank you Letitia, its a shame you are so busy with your son and helping Roland run things. If you had the time you would make a great witch. You are a great assistant."

"Thanks Tiffany, a bit of noblesse oblige never does any harm for me, my husband and the people of The Chalk. Are you ready for lunch?"

"No witch turns down the offer a meal."

"We will soon be back at The Castle."

30 minutes later at The Castle

"Greetings Mistress Aching."

"My Lord Baron, good to see you again Roland."

"it is good to see you too Tiffany."

"I see that you have my favourite little boy with you, hello Jeremy."

Roland and Letitia's 3 year old son ran forward and hugged Tiffany round her knees.

"How did you ladies go with your witching this morning?"

"Great, Letitia is a wonderful assistant."

"How are things between you and my former guard?"

"I haven't seen him for six months. I got a letter from him last week, he is now a fully qualified Doctor."

"Doctor Preston, very impressive, quite a step up from a Castle guard."

"Of course now he is fully qualified he is even busier at the hospital. He is now helping Dr. Lawn train up some new students. I am very happy for him but it is difficult for us to have a relationship as we are both so busy."

Letitia then spoke "The whole family was very glad he was visiting last year when Jeremy was taken ill."

"Yes, there is only so much you can do as a witch, sometimes you need some better medical care. Anyway, a witches work never stops. Good to see you and your little boy again Roland, thanks for lunch. See you next weekend Letitia."

Tiffany left The Castle, got on her broomstick, and flew on to continue her endless work as a witch.

Meanwhile Letitia spoke to her husband

"Poor Tiffany, she does so much for so little reward."

"Indeed she does. If you will please excuse me my dear, I have just had an idea."

Roland left the dining room and went to the Clacks chamber in highest tower of The Castle.
