Need No Doctor

It only lasted a day so far but Juleka concluded that being sick sucked. She was normally low energy, but this? Ugh, she didn't even have the energy to get out of bed, she could barely reach out and text her friends that she's gonna be missing school for the next week.

But how did she get sick? Juleka always had a pretty good immune system, she was almost never sick, she tended to be the caregiver more often then not.

"That's what you get from no sleep and cramming all those books into your head." Luka strolled into her room carrying medicine and a glass of water, "How's your head?"

"Booming like it has a broken, glitchy speaker inside it." Really sounded like it too, a near constant buzzing sound inside her head. It made the room spin, it made her eye hurt, it made her sick. "Do I have to drink it?"

"Yes you do young lady." Their mom popped her head into the room briefly, "And you'll rest until I go get more for you. Luka, you're on look out duty. Oh, and Rose is coming over too." When her girlfriends name got brought up Juleka wanted to jump out of bed. Rose! She didn't want her to worry! "The poor girl sounded so worried about you." Just what Juleka didn't want to hear.

"Shi-" Juleka bit her tongue before she got the curse word out. It wasn't like she wasn't allowed to swear, she was a teen, but she still tried to refrain it in front of her mom. It amused Luka a great deal. Or maybe it was the fact that Juleka got so flustered at the mention of Rose visiting.

Speaking of Luka, he set the glass down next to Juleka's desk, expression warm but worried all the same, "Rest. She won't be here for a bit longer."

The rest was more like a coma.

Juleka passed out after taking her medicine and only woke up to the sweet voice cooing to her and a warm hand holding hers. "Rose?" Ugh. Her voice was so scratchy.

"I'm here. I came as soon as I could. I brought you schoolwork, notes, and relaxation medicine since your mom said you were studying too hard and got yourself sick." Of course her mom would tell Rose about it. She had the best of intentions, Juleka knew but she could do a good job of talking to her girlfriend on her own. Most of the time. Rose was one of the few people she could truly open up to.

"I'm just a little tired." Deflection wouldn't work here, she knew but she tried to gather herself for long enough to ease Rose's fears. Seeing her so worried broke Juleka's heart, it made her want to cry, and she hardly ever cried.

"Was it because... I know you want to be a doctor one day, and I know why. It's hard to get into medical school too." Rose glanced at the stack of medical books on Juleka's desk, all neatly stacked on top of each other. Luka. He was supposed to put them back on the shelves. But she couldn't blame him for worrying about her health first. Her embarrassment though? That just took a huge blow. "You know that I'm doing fine right? You don't have to worry about me all the time Juleka. My exams said-"

Juleka sat up despite her splitting headache, both her hands taking Rose's hand on both of hers, "I know what they said. I know you don't need me all the time, I know you didn't even want out class to know but... can you really blame me for worrying about my girlfriends health?" A small smile broke on Juleka's lips, her cheeks blushing from both fever and her admittion.

"No I can. But neither can you." Rose kissed Juleka on the forehead, giggling against her hair when she saw the goth close her eyes, "Now lie back down. It's my turn to take care of you. And no buts about it okay?" Her attempt to look scary was very much dwarfed by how cute Rose always was, but Juleka played along, nodding, which seemed to satisfy Rose.

It wasn't that bad being take care of. At least not when it was a cute girl who was doing the careing. That was Juleka takeaway from this. That and the fact that she would have to take it easy or else face Rose's cute wrath.
