"C'mon, my babies, open your mouth wide..."
The babies Towa and Setsuna open their mouths wide as Rin feeds them. The human was quite happy to have two cute and obedient girls as daughters. Both little girls move their little feet in a very dynamic and tender way while they squeal because of how delicious the food their mother was giving them seemed to them, and that was something quite gratifying, especially considering the great challenge it had meant when Miroku and Sango they were in her place.
"Do you like the food?" Rin sees that the girls respond by stretching her little hands towards her "If that's how things are, then I have no choice but to give you more".
Rin continues to feed them, when Sesshomaru and Jaken show up, having already finished with their pending business. Seeing Rin at work feeding the Sesshomaru's daughters was simply priceless.
" How are you doing, Rin?" Jaken is the first to approach the twins.
" Well enough, Jaken-sama. These girls are very cutes" Rin brings a more food to the babies.
" Wow, they're growing healthy, just like the Sesshomaru-sama's daughters should grow up" Jaken takes a closer look at the babies, noticing that Setsuna stretched out her little hand to grab his face. "I have no doubt that they will be very strong when they grow up, no doubt".
" As long as they are happy and behave well, I already be happy" Rin finishes feeding her babies. "Both of them have already reached that stage where they are babbling, wanting to learn to speak like us".
" Really?" Sesshomaru says casually and trying to sound serious "Towa and Setsuna seem quite excited about growing up".
" As you say, Sesshomaru-sama. Don't see how they smile and move their little arms and legs when I tell them about the great things you did when I traveled with you".
Sesshomaru slightly raises an eyebrow. Regardless of the years that are passing, Rin still admired him with the same intensity as she did when she was still a child. The truth is that she did not bother him at all. Quite the contrary, deep inside he was moved by how sincere was the devotion that the mother of his daughters felt towards him.
" Let's see, Towa, Setsuna, say mommy" Rin smiles at her babies, and they return the gesture. "Come on, you can, my pretty girls. Say mom-my".
The babies babble a little. It seems that they weren't sure what Rin was expecting from them, but they entertained what Rin told them. Rin repeats what she had told them. She repeats one, two, three times, always with a smile that makes girls happy.
"Come on, babies. I want your first words to be mommy..."
"But what are you saying, Rin?" Jaken intervenes. "The daughters of Sesshomaru-sama will direct their first words precisely to Sesshomaru-sama".
"Well, it would be strange if they call Sesshomaru-sama mommy" Rin answers with a mischievous smile.
"Very funny, Rin".
Sesshomaru was simply watching what was happening. He hadn't planned to intervene in the argument between Rin and Jaken. The two of them were old enough to calm down if they started fighting over trifles. In any case, he was amused (although he didn't show it) to see that Towa and Setsuna were so happy with Rin's constant encouragement for them to learn to speak. Without a doubt, Rin was the ideal person to instill affection and spontaneity in the babies, the same thing that Sesshomaru admired in Rin.
" Jaken-sama, I need you to help me with the clothes. It should be dry by now".
" And are we going to leave the girls alone?"
"Of course not. Sesshomaru-sama is going to take care of them for a few minutes while we're gone" Rin's comment shocks Jaken and makes Sesshomaru open his eyes a little more.
"You should control the way you refer to Sesshomaru-sama, Rin! Just because you are the mother of his daughters, doesn't mean that..."
"Come with her, Jaken" Sesshomaru says suddenly, leaving Jaken shocked for a few seconds.
"Understood, Sesshomaru-sama! Wait for me, Rin..."
Rin and Jaken were gone, and Sesshomaru turns to Towa and Setsuna. They were both sitting on the ground, apparently playing catch ants on the ground using their open palms. The attitude of the babies could really be quite curious, or it could be due to the fact that they are both hanyou, Sesshomaru wasn't sure. He approaches the girls with a couple of soft but wide strides, then squats down to face his daughters, who are curious and happy to see him. In fact, Setsuna manages to grab Sesshomaru's stole, and when he feels it he starts to babble something about it.
"Towa, Setsuna" the girls look attentively at their father's face, who gives a brief look at the door, confirming that there was nobody, although his nose could still warn him of any unexpected presence. "I am your father. Father.
Again Towa and Setsuna didn't know exactly what to do, although it's not as if Sesshomaru expected things to go right the first time. Not even two minutes had passed when Rin did the same thing, so the great demon was aware of what was going to happen, but something inside him pushed him to try.
"I am your father. Try to repeat it".
Setsuna cocks her head, clearly not understanding her father's intentions, and Towa puts her right index finger to her mouth. Sesshomaru sighs briefly and gets up again, and at a very opportune moment, because a few seconds later Rin and Jaken appear with a pile of sheets and clean clothes.
"Thank you for taking care of Towa and Setsuna, Sesshomaru-sama" Rin keeps the sheets and approaches the girls again "What do you tell me, babies? Do you miss me?" the girls babble again, and Rin hugs them "What do you say? Did you father want him to be named before me? He took advantage while I was gone? Oh no. Your father wanted to take advantage".
At that moment Sesshomaru had received the biggest scare of his entire life. Even in the bloodiest battles he'd participated in, and even in the most risky moments, he hadn't been as surprised as he had been to hear those words from Rin. Jaken was completely pale and gaping, but his was incomparable to what felt the great demon, even though his gesture was not altered almost at all. It must have been a joke. Rin was just being funny as she affectionately held Towa and Setsuna. That idea allowed Sesshomaru to calm down the exaltation that he had felt for a moment.
"I'm going to put the girls to bed, right now it's their nap time" Rin now puts the babies on their futon, and before even starting to sing to them the girls were already falling asleep. "Those are our daughters, disciplined but happy".
"Rin, you really are skilled at scaring me" Jaken tells her in a low voice so as not to wake Towa and Setsuna.
"Jaken, we have to go" Sesshomaru decrees turning around. "I'll be stopping by tonight, Rin".
"Good luck with your pending issues, Sesshomaru-sama".
An almost imperceptible nod, and Sesshomaru flies off, leaving Rin home alone. Towa and Setsuna lay completely asleep, so it was okay if Rin spent some time looking for some firewood. She was already anticipating that Sesshomaru would bring some wild animal to provide meat for the home, while she could go buy some rice to make a rich dinner for her babies.
At that moment Rin smiles. She was able to see the tiny changes in Sesshomaru's countenance and the glint in his eyes..
It had been a joke really, sure enough, but she was right.
