"Ugh… Where am I?"
Morgana groaned groggily as he picked himself up from the ground. He rubbed his furry head with a paw - before his paw eyes widened as he took in where he had inexplicably found himself.
The cat-like critter had been washed up onto the shore of a small island. He was standing on soft white sand as tall palm trees looked before him. Waves lapped up from the crystal clear ocean behind him while seagulls cawed as they passed through the cloudy sky above.
Morgana glanced all around, walking forward as he observed his surroundings with much interest.
"I have no idea where I am or how I ended up here," he murmured to himself, "but I sure could get used to it out here."
"Hey! What's that thing over there?"
Morgana froze, his triangular ears twitching. They had just picked up the sudden crying out of a nearby voice - which was immediately followed by another.
"It's a Heartless! They must be invading the island again!"
"A Heartless! Then what are we waiting for? Let's get it!"
The voices were instantly joined by what sounded like something being summoned - before the air was filled by the noise of heavy footsteps running across the sand.
Morgana's eyes filled with alarm. The footsteps were coming from behind his furry back - which couldn't only mean that the people close by were running towards him. He swung around to see two figures running in his direction. Both were approaching with large weapons - which looked very much like giant keys.
Realising at once they intended to attack him, Morgana quickly leaped out of the way as his attackers swung their giant keys towards him, just missing him.
"Hey!" Morgana hollered irritably. "What are you guys after me for?"
The two figures stood before Morgana. He could now see they were a pair of teenage boys. They seemed around the same ages as his comrades in the Phantom Thieves of Hearts. One had brunette spiky hair while the other's was long and silvery. Both stared at the fuzzy little critter, their jaws falling open as shock filled their faces.
"No way!" The spiky-haired boy cried. "It can talk?!"
Oh? Morgana thought. So these guys can hear my voice too, just like the Phantom Thieves can.
"A talking Heartless?" The silver-haired boy raised his large key-shaped weapon. "This is no ordinary Heartless we're dealing with, Sora."
"Heartless?" Morgana hissed, not liking the way these boys were referring to him. "What's with you morons? And what's with those silly keys - and your stupid hair too?"
"Argh!" Sora cried. "Did you hear that, Riku?! It insulted us, our Keyblades - and our hair!"
"Well then…" Riku snarled. "Let's teach this Heartless a lesson, Sora! One it will never forget!"
With all their strength, the boys began to swing their weapons at the little creature. Fortunately, Morgana was able to block off their attacks. his Luna Cutlass was able to Sheild him against their Keyblades.
"Is that all ya got?" he sneered cockily. "Amateurs!"
Riku's clenched his teeth. He hadn't gone through the Mark of Mastery Exam to earn the title of Keyblade Master - just for this thing to call him an amateur. How much he was getting irritated was causing his heart to be on the verge of being corrupted by Darkness again.
"I don't like Heartless," the silver-haired boy growled. "But I really don't like this one!"
Morgana narrowed his eyes. Why did these teenagers keep calling him a Heartless. It was something he hadn't heard of, but didn't take kindly to. It was almost worst than being called a cat.
The peaceful atmosphere of the island was long gone as it was now filled with the sounds of weapons clashing and fighters crying. Despite being in his own against two much taller adversaries , Morgana was able to defend himself, showing just how much strength he had in his little body.
"C'mon, Riku!" Sora urges. We can't lose to this thing! We've battled against much bigger enemies than this!"
"I know, Sora! But it's surprising how much this little thing packs a punch!"
Morgana smirked. His ego had been inflated by how these two boys considered him a worthy opponent. Of course, they didn't have any chance of beating a professional fighter like him. Not with those key-shaped weapons of theirs.
Without warning, Morgana leapt up and away from Sora and Riku. He perched himself on the top of a nearby palm tree. A smug look filled his furry face which he directed down to the two boys.
"Get back down here!" Riku hissed. "Come down here and fight, you little coward!"
"Coward?!" Morgana's proud expression disappeared to be replaced by one of outrage. "Coward?! I'll show you fools who's a coward!"
At once, the cat-like critter jumped down from the tree - to land right on top of Riku's head, clinging onto the silver-haired boy with his claws.
"Hey!" Riku yelled, trying unsuccessfully to swipe Morgana from his head. "Get off me! Get down!"
Morgana remained where he was. He sneered as he lay comfortably on Riku's head while piercing the boy's skin with his claws.
"Hang on, Riku!" Sora ran up to his best friend, raising his Keyblade high over his head. "I'll get him!"
"No wait, Sora!" Riku cried, horror filling his face as he realised at once what the spiky-haired boy's attempt to held him would result in. "Nooooooo!"
Seeing the brunette's Keyblade hurling down towards him, Morgana leaped away from Riku - to let the silver-haired teenager take the strike that was meant for him. Sora's weapon crashed down onto the other boy's head, bringing a cry of pain out of him as he was thrown off his feet.
"Did I get him, Riku?" Sora asked, failing to realise what he had just done. "Did I get him?"
Riku lifted his head up from where he lay on the ground. He saw Sora standing over him with a proud look on his face. The younger boy was completely clueless that he had hit his best friend - much less than Morgana was standing behind him with an amused grin over what he had caused.
"You sure did, Sora…" Riku moaned sarcastically. "You sure did…"
"Mrawhahahaha!" Morgana cackled, pleased with himself. "It's almost scary how good I am!"
Sora swung around upon hearing Morgana praise himself. He glared irritably to discover the dark-furred creature was standing behind him without a scratch. The spiky-haired boy had just about had it with this little nuisance with a big head. He was just raising his Keyblade to swing another boy at him - when he was stopped by a familiar voice which suddenly called out.
"Sora! Riku! What are you doing?!"
Sora and Riku looked to see who had called their names, as did Morgana. He saw a red-haired girl was running towards the three of them. He was preparing to stand his ground in case she intended to give the boys from back up - but there was no key-shaped weapon in her hand, which made her seem like she had no intention of fighting him.
"Kairi!" Sora cried. "Stay back! This Heartless is invading the island!"
"Yeah, and it's no ordinary one!" Riku added, struggling to his feet. "This is a real tough one! I don't think you've had enough training with your Keyblade to deal with this one, Kairi. You'd better let me and Sora deal with it-"
"You guys!" Kairi made a face as she cut the boys off. "Can't you see this is no Heartless?"
"It's not?" Sora exclaimed. He blinked with surprise as he peered down at Morgana. He had been so sure he was looking upon a Heartless. This critter certainly matched their description with his dark appearance - and causing of trouble on the island.
"That's not a Heartless?" Riku murmured, equally as staggered.
"No, can't you guys see?" Kairi smiled brightly as she ran over to Morgana to pick him up. "It's a cat!"
"Hey!" Morgana cried, taking umbrage at being called the very thing he didn't like being referred to as. "That is not true, young lady! I am not a caAAAAAAHHHHHH!"
Morgana's voice trailed off as Kairi began to pet him. The red-haired girl giggled as she ran her fingers tenderly through the feline's black and white fur. His body relaxed as all the aggression built up inside him was erased away by the Princess of Heart.
"Did these boys mistake you for a Heartless and try to pick a fight with a poor innocent kitty like you?"
"Hey!" Riku burst out. "Did you not see what he did to us? He ain't any innocent kitty, Kairi!"
"You'd better stay away from him, Kairi!" Sora warned. "He's nothing but trouble-"
"Oh no he's not! He's a sweet little pretty kitty!" Kairi held Morgana closer in her embrace as she continued to pet him. "Aren't you, little guy? Aren't you?"
A purr began to rumble from Morgana. He closed his eyes as a smile crossed his furry face. He was enjoying the attention he was receiving from this girl. He could tell she was a lot smarter than the two boys put together.
I really could get used to this, Morgana thought happily. I wonder if I could convince this girl to get me some sushi. I'd better not mention her when I get back to the Phantom Thieves. I don't want Lady Ann to think I'm cheating on her.
As they watched Morgana being showered in affection from their other best friend, Sora and Riku glared towards him. Both were annoyed that after fighting with them and jeering at them, the rude little critter had decided Kairi into thinking he was nice and harmless. He would have had the young Princess of Heart wrapped around his finger - if he only had any on his paws.
"I really don't like that cat…" Riku muttered just low enough for only the other boy to hear.
"You and me both, Riku…" Sora agreed indignantly. "You and me both…"
THE END
