3. Chloe's story.

Chloe approaches the group of others. One lady catches her eye. She doesn't seem quite so aggressive towards her.
Chloe clasps her hands together, forgetting that she's still wearing an old ring she was given by her mother; she knows it was from the Doctor at one time.
"My name's Chloe. What's yours?"
"I'm Maureen." Suddenly Maureen loses all antagonism and seems totally relaxed. .
"I'd like to chat about things and get up to speed with how things are with you here, if that's alright."
Maureen smiles welcomingly and they wander a few yards away from the others.
It's as if time stands still and nothing else moves or matters while they chat.

"What was it like here for all that time?" Chloe asks.
Maureen relates her story to Chloe.

That ring has some interesting properties when activated. .
Maybe Trevon was affected by it, too? .

Maureen's Story.

"A long time ago, we could all see other people on our twin planet. We had telescopes and we could see them quite clearly. Then we had radio, and we could even send them messages. My family were twinned with a family on Tellee, and we got on quite well. We lived quite happily, then."

"There was an announcement on the radio..."
Maureen shifts from one foot to the other, maybe a sign she might not like relating the next part of the story.
"It came on the news on the radio…"

"Here is the news read by Al Fresco ... I'm outside as the studio has been locked down by a new leader who has forced his arrival on us. He's rapidly taking over all the infrastructure on our planet leaving less and less ways to bring you accurate information about what's happening. He claims to be from space – no-one has ever seen the like of him before, a horrible brown hulk of a beast. Anyone who's taken a shot at him has been frazzled to ashes, literally ashes on the spot. No-one can withstand him."

"Then that radio program went dead," Maureen says. "It was cut off and replaced. We didn't know what to make of it. But there was worse to come!"
She screws her face up in an effort to permit herself to relate more.
"This is a news flash from Tez on MyDreams ... Guardian style! Ten rocket propelled missiles departed from MyDreams bound for Tellee this morning at a few minutes before mid-day. Unfortunately, we detected incoming missiles from Telee that are due here in a few hours. Please clear the cities in an orderly way."

"And that was it! We've been trying to survive in the countryside ever since! But people have been dying unexpectedly. I know it's tough in the countryside, but it became too many dying. We decided we had to do something. Those so-called Guardians have a lot to answer for and they didn't care!
"Then, those that could do something got together and secretly radioed to people on Tellee. A plan formed to get the so-called Guardians out, off the planet and into some form of place where they couldn't escape! They tricked them to get them to such a place, and then they told them that if they stepped away from the doors at either end of the room, the planets would fall in and collide with them at the centre of it all. Then they spun the room so they couldn't tell which way was which and couldn't tell if they were being told the truth!"

"What a mess you've been through!" Chloe sympathises. "Who designed any of that trap for the Guardians?" Chloe's concerned about the nature of the problem they're facing.
"We've no idea," Maureen says.
Maybe it isn't possible to find out any more about this, or just not here and now. Those questions might have been unlikely to gain an answer here.

Chloe feels the need to move on. Time seems to be stood still, somehow, providing time for her to converse, or maybe their focus on their conversation had been so complete they hadn't been aware of anything else.
"That's so interesting and useful to know," Chloe says, unclasping her hands. "I think my friends are wanting to move on now."
She feels as if she's had too much information in one go.
Chloe turns around to see her friends, but they've already gone.

All this information might (or might not) come in useful somewhere!
