Chapter 05: Another morning – another problem
A/N: I'm back. This chapter is a bit more upbeat than the last two chapters. It has its downs, too. But that's just like it is. Like Bluey said in the episode „Bike": The world's silly.
-The next morning-
Bandit woke up to a familiar weight on his stomach and hearing someone whispering. „You sure, he won't get mad when I climb onto him, too?" 'That's Kate for sure. Bluey and Bingo never hesitate to climb onto my belly.' he thought. 'Well, time for some fun.' The moment he noticed Kate starting to climb he counted backwards from twenty and started to stand up so the children had to hold onto him if they didn't want to fall down. Hearing the children giggling he felt great. Sure, he wasn't Kate's father but it totally felt like having three children of his own rather than two and a guest. Besides if you asked him he would say that the laughter of children is the sound he loved the most. Reaching the bathroom he stopped. „Okay, kiddos. Time to stop now. I'm not that young and strong I used to be anymore. Besides you are getting too heavy to carry around. And you can perfectly walk for yourself. Long story short I'm tired" he closed with a sigh. „Oh, okay" Bluey said and hopped down. „Come on, Kate. I have an idea." „Does the idea includes going to the bathroom to wash yourself?" Bandit asked quickly not hoping it would. It almost always was hard to get Bluey to wash herself for she had a very livid imagination and with her amount of energy she had to play her games she came up with. And everyone just had to go with it. Sure, it was simply exhausting sometimes but her liveliness was just contagious. „Well, not necesserally, but we'll see." „Huh?" 'That's a new one' Bandit just thought for she usually didn't start playing until everything would be discussed.
In the kitchen they sat there all together. „There you go, Bluey. The cheese and jam sandwich is ready. Next one's is yours Bingo." Chilli said being in charge of making the sandwiches this time. „You ordered banana and peanut butter, right?" „Yes" was the only answer Chilli got. Right then it didn't disturbed her though. „And what about you, Kate? What kind of sandwch do you want?" „Could I please taste both of it? One of those cheese and jam and one with banana and peanut butter? If it's not much trouble of course." „(Sigh) Of course it isn't, dear. But I'm pretty sure my husband told you not to be so formal around us any more." „Oh, yeah. You're right Bluey's mum. It's just … I'm just used to being polite. It's a thing my father" at that point Kate stopped suddenly holding her right cheek with her paw. The place her father has hit the day before. Bluey, not knowing what happened exactly but sensing the uneasiness of her new friend decided to chime in. „You can taste one of my sandwiches. I am not that hungry so I still can wait." Bandit hearing that while cleaning the dishes they couldn't use the dishwasher for felt once again proud of his daughter. „Thank you, Bluey" Kate and Chilli said at the same time. Realizing what just happened they all burst into laughter. Well, the children did, not really knowing why Chilli thanked her while the parents just stood there smiling at the children having a good time over something that simple. 'I wish I could make them laugh like that everytime' Chilli thought to herself.
After breakfast was done and the children put their dishes into the dishwasher it was time to leave for kindergarten and school. They always were difficult to handle when trying to leave the house on time. But that morning it seemed like Bluey absolutely didn't want to leave. „Bluey, come on. Bingo and Kate are ready to leave. What's taking you so long?" „There's something really really really important I have to take to school today. And I can't find it." „All right. What's so important? I'll look for it while you're preparing to leave." „It's the album with the photos of my first day at school. It's ..." she then gestured to her mum to get nearer so the others couldn't hear. „It's to remind the others of how we all felt when we were the new kids in school. I hope they then see what they're doing to Kate by excluding her." „That's … actually a good idea. And I know exactly where to find that album. So, go and get ready. I'm getting it for you." „Okay, Mum." No five minutes later they were out of the house and on the road. „Kids, I think we're on time this time for sure."
After dropping off Bingo who was happily greeted by Lila they were driving to school. The nearer they got there the more quiet Kate became. Chilli, although she had to concentrate on traffic, noticed that but pushed it aside. 'Bluey's got a good plan on helping her. If I intercepted now it could result in failure. Kate's going to have a good time at school today. At least I hope.' There was a nagging feeling the plan could result in something neither of them wanted. 'Chilli, the plan your daughter came up with is good. Don't be ridiculous. It will help her. And even if it doesn't Bluey will be there for Kate. That kid has a good heart.' „We're here. Out of the car now. I'm needing the day off" Chilli said jokingly. Well, half jokingly. „Thank you, Bluey's mum/Mum" the girls said unisono starting to giggle. 'Hope she's still in high spirit when I'm going to get them home this afternoon.' She suddenly noticed that she thought of their home being Kate's home, too. 'Well, it is. Kind of. At least for now.' She only started the motor of the to drive home when all of a sudden the door opened again and Kate came in hugging her. „Thanks, I haven't been this happy for a long time. Those last two nights were the happiest since Mum passed away two years ago. Thank you." After regaining herself she wrapped her arms around that girl whose longing for love was obvious to her. „You're very welcome, sweetheart. My family and I will always be there for you. But I think you should go in now. Calypso's going to be worried if you don't show up." „I will. Bye." And after a final wave of goodbye she went into the building. „That was odd. But if she was denied the love of a family for two years now I can't blame her. What kind of parent denies his own child the love she so much desired? Especially after the death of her mother" Chilli then remembered what kind of person Kate's father is and what happened the day before. And she reminded herself not to let her anger get the better of her. If she let herself to fall in rage, although she really felt like it, she couldn't be there for her daughters. And she couldn't be there for Kate. But what to do?
A/N: That's the end of this chapter. Though I brought up Kate's father two times within this chapter he won't be a big part in the story.
