Kevin McCormick quite possibly had the worst life out of anyone in South Park.

He was an underage alcoholic. He lived in a run-down house on extremely low income. Little food, little water. He had parents who couldn't give a rat's ass about him. He had no friends whatsoever.

And it seemed like it was only getting worse.

His mom just lost her job. The only constant source of income for the McCormicks. They could no longer afford to even feed themselves every night. Now they finally had to do the one thing they never wanted to - apply for food stamps.

Because his parents were busy "tidying up the house," his mom sent him, his brother Kenny, and his sister Karen out to the city hall to apply for the food stamps. Kevin might have been mentally challenged, but he wasn't stupid - he knew the real reason. And he was pretty damn sure Kenny and Karen knew the reason too. They were fighting again. Like every other fucking night.

Kevin thought the walk was the most embarrassing moment of his life, even if onlookers had no way of knowing where they were going. He'd be lying to himself if he thought that he would never have to do this, though. It was inevitable.

What Kevin did not expect, was what happened along the way.

Somehow, despite all the bullshit in his life, Kevin thought for sure he had just found the light at the end of the tunnel. The candle at the end of the corridor. The fireflies at the end of the couloir.

And though he didn't know it yet, that ray of sunshine in the dark night's name was Shelly Marsh.
