Ah, the Kingdom of Vale. A quaint little city with good people. Well, most were good. One who wasn't was notorious criminal Roman Torchwick, top enforcer of the world renowned and feared criminal gang the Black Rose. He and several thugs were approaching a shop called From Dust Till Dawn. They walked into the store, unaware of a girl in the back with a metallic blue wolf's helmet on her head and earbuds blaring music through them as she read a weapons magazine.

"It is really hard to find a Dust Shop open this late, you know?" Roman asked the old shopkeep as a thug pointed a gun at him.

"Take my Lien and leave. Just don't hurt me." The elderly man said as he shook with his hands up.

"We're not here for the money, so calm down." Roman said then looked at his associates. "The Dust, boys." He said to them and they began taking the Dust in all its forms.

One thing noticed the girl and sneered. He drew his sword and pointed it at her. "Hands in the air, girlie." He said but she didn't hear him. She even danced a little to the tune she was listening to. He walked to her and grabbed her shoulder, causing her to turn him. He pointed to his ears and she took her ear buds out.

"Can I help you?" She asked.

"I said hands in the air!" He replied.

"Are...you robbing me?"

"YES!"

She just nodded then her boot flew between his legs then she kicked him in the face to the front of the store. Roman looked at her and she looked at him.

"So, you're Roman Torchwick?" She asked.

"And you're Lapis Lazuli, the so called Defender of the Four Kingdoms." He said then looked her up and down. "I'm unimpressed."

"That'll change after this fight." She said. "But I guess I'll remain disappointed because I didn't think one of the Red Reaper's top enforcers would be so unimpressive."

He growled then the two began to fight, Roman using his cane Melodic Cudgel as a sword while Lapis used her katana Blood Blade against him, forcing him and his thugs out of the shop. Once cleared of the store he pushed him back and he fired at her, causing citizens nearby to watch the scene.

Lapis spotted Roman trying to escape and chased him using a grappling hook attached to a baton.

"Hey, Torchwick! We weren't done dancing!"

"Persistent, just like she told me." He muttered as a Bullhead ascended to them. He climbed in them turned to Lapis. "End of the line, Blue!" He said then threw a red crystal at her and it landed near her feet.

"Crap." She said as he fired at the crystal...but a broad man saved her from the blast. He was wearing a shot that had the colors pickle green, olive green, and moss green on it. His eyes were hazel and his hair was dark brown.

He took off his shirt, tie, and blazer to reveal his upper body was covered in scars then he jammed a red crystal each into his shoulders, causing his eyes to turn hold before he shot off fireballs from his fists at the ship.

Roman headed up to the cockpit. "We have a Huntsman!" He said to the pilot, a woman wearing a business suit. The two swapped places and she took on the Huntsman and Lapis. Her hand glowed black as she lifted several nails and other sharp metallic objects into the air then shot them at her target. Lapis spin her sword to deflect the ones aimed at her while the Huntsman just brushed them off him.

The woman widened her eyes and decided to change her tactics. She threw a light blue Dust crystal and a red Dust crystal then shot at them both, creating a smokescreen, allowing the attack and Roman to escape.

Lapis turned to the large man. "You're a Huntsman. This is so cool!" She said as she struggled to contain her excitement.

She began regretting that statement as she was arrested and taken to the interrogation room of the Vale Police Department.

"You do know your actions tonight won't be taken lightly, I hope. You and others were put in serious danger." He said.

"The Black Rose started it! If it weren't for me, that poor old man wouldn't have any Dust!" Lapis said.

"Were it my choice, you'd be sent home patted on the back...and slapped on the wrist." He slammed his fist on the table, causing a dent in it and that got the girl to yelp in surprise. "But...someone would like to speak with you."

The young girl was confused until she saw a woman walk in. She had light blue eyes, fair skin, and platinum blond hair. She was wearing a sleeveless two piece white dress with a long high-waisted skirt that stopped just above her ankles, and brown boots. In her hands were a cup of tea.

"Lapis Lazuli." She said then looked closer at the girl. "Silver eyes."

Lapis nodded. "My grandfather told me those with my eye color are legendary warriors."

The woman nodded then the man pulled up the footage of Lapis fighting.

"Quite brave of you to take on an enforcer of the Black Rose. But I'm curious about where you learned your sword skills."

"My grandfather. He was a master swordsman but my family always learned its way around other weapons."

The woman set one of the tea cups on the table and Lapis sipped from it.

"I've only seen one other sword wielder of that skill. A sneaky old raven."

"Raven Branwen. People have compared my skills to hers several times. She was my inspiration to become a Huntress. I'd like to meet her someday."

The woman sat down. "I'm also curious about what the Defender of the Four Kingdoms wants to do with her life."

"I want to become a Huntress. My family has had a long tradition of training the next generation from a young age. My training started when I was eight. I've made a few mistakes recently but I'm ready to atone for them. And the best way to do that is to continue my family's legacy and become a Huntress."

The man seemed a bit impressed while the woman never took her eyes off the younger girl.

"I assume you know who I am?"

Lapis nodded. "Professor Selene. Beacon's headmistress."

"And you wish to come to my school?"

"Yes."

Salem looked at the man, who rolled his eyes with a sigh.

"That can be arranged, dear."

Lapis smiled.

The next day, she was on a large airship headed to Beacon Academy.

"I hope I've made you proud, Mom...I'm on the path you and Grandpa wanted for me." She said to herself.

"The robbery was led by Black Rose enforcer Roman Torchwick, who evaded authorities. Anyone who spots him is asked to inform the VPD. Lisa." A news reporter said.

"Thank you, Cyril. In other news, a Faunus Civil Rights protest took a dark turn when the White Fang disrupted the event. Former Huntress Blake Belladonna, leader of the White Fang, was believed to be leading the White Fang attackers. Citizens are advised to avoid this woman at all costs." A woman with lavender hair said before the news feed was cut off by a hologram of the man who saved Lapis' life the previous night.

"Welcome to Beacon. I am Hazel Rainart and you all are a privileged few who have been given the honor of attending this academy. Our world is in a time of peace and as future Huntsmen and Huntresses, it is your responsibility to uphold it. You have shown the courage needed for the task, and now we will provide you with the knowledge and training to protect our world." He said then the hologram disappeared.

Next stop for all these new students: Beacon Academy.
