the next morning Gumbald immediately sent out a manhunt across the candy kingdom in hopes of finding Marceline. the banana guards broke into people's homes, destroyed their belongings, and searched for anyplace that might hide any nightosphere citizens. though they were not successful in finding Marceline herself they did find many nightosphere citizens that some candy families had been harbouring. gumbald offered them money if they told him were Marceline was hiding but they all refused and therefore were locked up. but Gumbald wasn't giving up. eventually they came to a house just on the outskirts of the kingdom. don't lie we know you've been harbouring these demons !!, gumbald said to the man he was interogating. my home is always open to the weary traveler, have mercy my lord !! the candy citizen begged. I am placing you under house house arrest until I get to the bottom of this, Gumbald said as he closed the door of the house and placed a spear on the door so the citizen wouldn't get out.
gumbald then turned to Finn, burn it down, he ordered. excuse me sir !, Finn said shocked.
until it smolders, this citizen is a traitor and must be an example of. Finn took the fiery torch from Gumbald's hand, sir I was not trained to murder the innocent, he bravely said. but you were trained to follow orders, Gumbald replied to finn In a threatening tone. ignoring him Finn threw the torch into a barrel of water putting it out. weak insolent coward !!! gumbald growled. he shoved Finn out of the way as he was handed another fiery torch and threw it onto the roof of the house. the house then began to melt as Finn jumped in threw the window, kicked the door down and ran back outside with the citizen. thank you so much the citizen said as he quickly ran away. Finn was bumped on the head by a banana guard's swords.
the sentence for insubordination is death, such a shame you threw a away a promising career. gumbald said. consider it my highest honour sir Finn said back. just as a guard was about to end Finn's life, Marceline who was watching from behind a tree threw a stone at Gumbald's horse causing it to throw him of, distracting the guards, and allowing Finn to escape with the horse. as the Finn rode away one of the guard's arrows shot him in the shoulder and he fell of the horse and into the river below.
don't waste your arrows, let the traitor rot in his watery grave, Gumbald ordered. find Marceline, and if you have to burn the candy kingdom to the ground so be it. and with that Gumbald he got back on his horse and left with the guards. Marceline quickly jumped in the river and pulled Finn out, saving his life.
2 hours later the candy kingdom was completely ablaze with screams and panic in the voices of the citizens. sir we've looked everywhere but we still can't find the vampire girl, a banana guard told Gumbald. I had the entire castle surrounded guards at every door there's no way she could have escaped, gumbald whispered to himself. unless, he smirked, looking up at the castle belltower.
