Falling into the void

Before the entrance of the place where he had to be at that moment, Zaheer was meditating. What he was about to do was going to test his mental integrity, and for that reason he wanted to be as well prepared as possible. There have been times when he almost couldn't get out of there, times when he was on the brink of madness because of what was waiting for him behind that door. Tenzin, the one who had been in charge before him, had warned him before announcing his own retirement from there, and now he had to face the consequences. He couldn't allow that to gain ground again. His work and his home depended on it. Nothing could interrupt him in his meditation.

─ Let go of your earthly tether. Enter the void. Empty and become the wind...

─ Are you okay, professor?

Zaheer opens his eyes, finding Bolin who was looking at him somewhat strangely. It was not for less, a teacher sitting on the floor repeating the same phrase as a mantra was not something that was seen every day or in all schools. Zaheer frowns somewhat annoyed at the interruption, but he felt that he had done enough to calm down, so he stands up and faces Bolin.

─ What are you still doing here? I thought you'd be inside waiting for me.

─ Y-yes, I'm very sorry professor. I'm going into the classroom right now.

Zaheer watches as Bolin almost runs into the door before remembering to open it. He takes a deep breath. That could not be postponed any longer. Had he known what was in store for him when he studied education, he might have become an architect, an electrician, a lawyer, anything, as long as it allowed him to avoid the creature behind that door. He clenches his fists, and finally takes short steps to bridge all the distance between him and the door. He hoped Bolin had had time to take a seat, though Zaheer still had no more time to offer him. Once the door is opened, he finds that some students were writing things on the blackboard, mainly caricatures of the other teachers. And among those students was that beast, the main source of all the headaches that Zaheer had to go through every day: Korra was precisely drawing Zaheer and writing the phrase "Billiards Professor" over it. The aforementioned suffers a tic in his eyebrow, knowing exactly the reason why the dark-skinned girl called him that.

─ I want all of you to delete that at once. Let's start classes.

Some students are quick to comply, but others (Korra included) ignore it. It is enough for Zaheer to harden his gaze even more but for almost all the stragglers to join the work, but Korra remains with her arms crossed, defiant. Here is a good reason why Zaheer took time to meditate before entering the hall.

─ Didn't you hear what I said, Korra? ─ He approaches that girl, prepared for whatever.

─ Of course I heard you, Zaheer...

─ Professor Zaher.

─ Meh, Professor Zaheer ─ Korra corrects with annoyance ─. We were just having some wholesome entertainment. Nothing happens if we recreate a moment with some other artistic inspiration.

─ I did not ask reasons. I just said that I want all of you to erase those scribbles from the blackboard, since classes have already started. I suppose you understand, Korra.

─ Okay, but don't get upset, Professor Billiards...

Big mistake.

─ Go to the hallway and stay there until class ends ─ some students stifle a giggle out of fear, because they already saw that coming ─. And you better not even think about moving, or I'll talk to your parents personally.

─ Good, good. I'm leaving now ─ Korra heads for the door, also being somewhat shocked by Zaheer's outburst, but she stops right at the door ─ And can't I go out in the meantime to buy myself some sweets?

Zaheer felt that he was beginning to lose his balance. All of his training, all of his experience, all of his focus, was always put to the test by that rambunctious girl. For something Tenzin had warned his about the risk of teaching classes precisely there, he had left for a very good reason.

End

It was time to translate some fic that had been uploaded from the legend of Korra. Ok, I had only done two fanfics in Spanish, but I still wanted to do this. I hope you liked it and I say goodbye.
