One day I was fighting alongside three Spider-Man's trying to save all the villains they ever faced. I was there and was given no warning about what the spell would do. The next it was like no one knew who spider man was, but I knew. I remembered. I didn't go around like a crazy person trying to find someone who knew who Peter Parker was. I just asked a couple people from Midtown High I went to school with if they knew Peter Parker. They didn't. It was like he was just gone. All their memories were. MJ and Ned didn't remember anything. They were easy enough to find. Though the day I saw MJ. I saw the bandaid on MJ's head made me think. What if the reason no one remembered Peter was because that's what he wanted. That's what Strange's spell did. MJ and Ned knew who Spider-Man was. Is that why he made everyone forget? They were in danger because of him? I almost didn't realize that Peter was now in the coffee shop that MJ worked at. I saw as his eyes widen as they met mine and then looked at MJ.
He thinks I don't know who he is.
I smiled at him, "sorry. I'll get out of your way. See you later, MJ, Ned. Call me later."
I stepped to the side. I watched as his attention turned to MJ. I watched as he walked up ready to say something to her. Then I saw him just stare at her. He stuttered and I felt my heartbreak for him. I couldn't believe that his girl was right in front of him and he couldn't tell her. He couldn't tell her that they used to be together. That they loved each other. He wanted to keep her safe. He wanted to keep her away from the dangers he faced being Spider-Man. That I understood. It was dangerous being the friend or girlfriend of a hero, but I felt she deserved a chance. I would want to be given that chance. I would respect Peter's decision though. I saw MJ look at me. I snapped out of it realizing that I had been staring at Peter. I smiled quickly and then I felt my cheeks heat up as he followed her line of sight.
Shit.
"Sorry. Have a nice day. See you later, MJ. Bye Ned!" I rushed out the door.
As I walked down the streets of Brooklyn I had hoped that I would see Peter again, but he needed some time. We both did.
Stay safe, Peter.
