"Whassup kiddo?" Lorelai asked her daughter. They had been sitting in silence at the Yale café for a few minutes now, Lorelai sensed her daughters unhappiness.
"Nothing" Rory replied grudgingly.
"Hey, I literally gave birth to you, I know when somethings wrong" Lorelai said sharply.
"Fine" Rory admitted with a sheepish smile.
"Tell me about it" Lorelai said tentatively.
"No" Rory shot at her.
"Why not" Lorelai asked hurt.
"Do you want me to be honest Mum?" Rory asked.
"Very much so" Lorelai said, confused at her daughters sudden anger.
"Well, you are always so judgy! Every time I finally pluck up the courage to tell you what's happening in my life, you spoil it with your strong opinions! And it's not like your life is so fucking perfect, you bloody mess up every relationship you are in!" Rory yelled. She bit her lip, she knew she shouldn't have said that. It was unfair to release her anger towards herself on her mum. She was still too angry to apologize.
A moments silence followed. "Did you really mean that?" Lorelai asked, her voice shaking.
A pause, "No… I'm just- I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that" Rory said, genuinely sincere.
"Are you really scared to tell me about your life because you think I will judge you?" Lorelai whispered.
"What" Rory asked, confused.
"Look, I may express my feelings negatively towards your life but that's only because I want the best for. You know that right? Right? I know I am opinionated but I want you to tell me about your life and I want to help in your problems. I don't want you ever to be scared to confide in me. Ok?" Lorelai suddenly said.
"Ok… Here goes nothing… I got into a relationship with Marty, but I feel like I don't know if I made the right choice. I don't know if my heart wants me to date Logan or Marty. So I am sort of dating both of them without them knowing. I know that's a terrible thing to do and I am the bad guy but I don't know how else to decide, I have tried everything. I feel so bad for Marty for betraying his trust and I really don't want to do it because he is a truly great guy who I want to be with-"
"But you think you might still have feelings for Logan" Lorelai finished.
Rory nodded.
"I think you know this is the wrong thing to do just as much as I do" Lorelai said gently.
Rory bowed her head.
"You need to tell Marty the truth. You need to tell him that although you do love him romantically, you think you also love Logan romantically. Tell him that you need time to make the decision. Yes, it will hurt Marty, but if he really is the loyal guy I think he is, he will accept that understandingly and only try harder to gain your attention" Lorelai suggested.
"I'm just scared to tell him" Rory admitted.
"We both know that Marty is the more understanding one. It is better than the other way around" Lorelai said knowingly.
"Ok, I'll tell him" Rory said.
"My good little girl has been telling porkipies and needs to sort it out." Lorelai teased.
"Drop it" Rory laughed. She was relieved the tension had eased and their normal banter was back.
"And Rory?" Lorelai said suddenly more serious.
"Yes?" she asked.
"I don't want you being scared to tell me stuff again ok?" Lorelai said.
"Yes ma'am" Rory said mock saluting. Lorelai, who was halfway through a sip of coffee choked with laughter.
"Oh dear, if you die then I will forever be blamed" Rory said chuckling as her mother continued to laugh.
"Please bury me with a mug of coffee and a sexy image of Luke in his baseball cap if I do die" Lorelai spluttered out.
Both of them ended up spending the next couple minutes dying from laughter.
"Let's get Luke to join the club and then you can have the real thing beside you" Rory said cackling so hard, the neighbouring tables looked oddly at her.
"At this rate, you'll be buried beside me" Lorelai wheezed, tears of laughter welling in her eyes.
"Let's not forget Paul Anka" Rory added rolling about on her chair.
"Or Sookie" Lorelai said.
"Or Jackson" Rory said.
"NOOO not Jackson buried with us" Lorelai complained childishly.
"Why not?" Rory asked taken aback.
"Because he will insist on all his silly vegetables being buried with us. How on Earth will we have an underground party once we are dead if a bunch of vegetables are taking up the space" Loralai explained solemnly.
"Fair point" Rory said, just as sincerely.
"I raise a toast to coffee, Luke's baseball cap, the underground party of the dead and Jackson's spoil sport vegetables" Lorelai said raising her mug.
They chugged down the rest of their coffee.
