I'm writing a Ninjago fanfic. I'll be featuring my OC.
I'll be making her a female because...well, Ninjago used to be lacking in female characters. It's gotten better about it though, so I can say the writers have improved.
She'll be prone to lampshading things. If Ninjago has a flaw, it's that it can be cliched at times. I still find the show to be enjoyable, however. Otherwise, why would I be writing a fanfic about it?
Well, I could write a hate fic for this show, obviously. But this is fanfictionnet, not hatefictionnet. So I'm not going that route.
Chapter 1: A New Ninja
Anne was at her apartment one day. She was currently reading a newspaper. She had heard stories about a group of ninja who were saving the day.
Sure enough, they were in the headlines.
TEAM OF NINJA STOP OUTLAW FROM ROBBING BANK!
That newspaper showed the four of them standing outside the bank.
They certainly were famous. What would Ninjago City do without them?
"For a group of ninja they sure seem to draw a lot of attention to themselves." noted Anne. You would think that they would operate more secretly.
She was a redhead. And she dressed in a yellow jacket.
Sometimes she had dreams about being a ninja herself.
They were exciting, to say the very least.
She got to fight all kinds of evil.
Like skeletons, for example. It seemed that they had a bone to pick with the Ninjago warriors.
She felt like she was in a cartoon. Or in a LEGO playset. Or some combination of the two.
But while she was not a ninja in reality, she was content with her current life.
No point in being blind with what you already had, right?
Currently, the Ninjago team were relaxing at their hideout.
They had just completed their latest mission.
Some bandits had decided to rob a village...but they of course had stopped them.
The bandits had been no match for their ninja skills.
They had been taught a lesson, that was for sure.
It was doubtful that they would attack the village again.
"Those bandits were too easy to fight!" exclaimed Kai.
"Yeah! I didn't break a sweat!" shouted Jay.
"I've never sweated during battle personally." pointed out Zane.
"Really?" questioned Cole.
He found that to be pretty impressive. One would imagine fighting Lord Garmadon would make him sweat a bit.
Speaking of which, he wondered what he was up to. Things had been pretty peaceful since Lord Garmadon escaped into the portal.
Sensei Wu decided to impart them with his wisdom...as usual.
"You may not have had difficulty dealing with your foes today, but that does not mean you should neglect your training. A time may come that you end up facing stronger opponents." pointed out Sensei Wu.
And of course, Lord Garmadon was still out there. He hoped that his students hadn't forgotten that.
It seemed inevitable that they would be facing him once again.
"I certainly hope so!" exclaimed Cole.
"I'll be leaving for now, my students. I have detected another person that has the potential." spoke Sensei Wu.
He didn't know how powerful Lord Garmadon would be when he returned to face him again, so it would be best to find all the help that he could get.
Sensei Wu left.
His pupils thought this was very exciting.
It would be nice to make a new friend.
"Another student? Alright! The more, the merrier!" exclaimed Kai.
"I would not mind the extra company." noted Zane.
"Yeah. I would like another sparring partner." spoke Jay. It would spice up the dojo a bit.
"Don't you already have the three of us?" questioned Cole.
"Why have three when I can have four?" asked the blue ninja.
Sensei Wu knocked on Anne's door.
She answered the door.
"Please don't tell me this is the landlord who's come to evict us from our apartment..." thought Anne to herself.
She was pretty sure that her parents had paid the rent last week.
Fortunately, it was not what she feared.
"Obi-Wan Kenobi? Is that you?" questioned the teenage girl, raising an eyebrow curiously.
"Greetings. I am Sensei Wu. I am here to tell you that you have the potential to become a ninja." explained Sensei Wu.
"So...you're not Obi-Wan then?" asked Anne. Perhaps this was a case of mistaken identity.
"I do not have a lightsaber." answered Sensei Wu. Though he did have power over light.
"I see..." spoke the girl.
"Do you accept? If you accept, you will get the opportunity to protect Ninjago from the forces of evil." spoke the man.
"Well, there are a number of things that are wrong with the world. If I volunteer, I can probably fix at least one of those things." admitted the redhead.
"True. There are a number of things that are wrong with the world. This does not mean that the world we live in is terrible, but we should try to make the world a happy place for everyone." noted Sensei Wu.
"You sure give helpful advice." admitted Anne.
"It is what I do, yes. Come with me and I shall take you to my home in the mountains." spoke the sensei.
"I was under the impression that you would live in a swamp." questioned the teenage girl.
"I could live there, but my sandals would get muddy." pointed out Sensei Wu.
"Seems fair." nodded Anne.
She wrote a farewell letter to her parents first. She would come back to visit them when she had time. She would have time, right?
After a trek up the mountain, Anne arrived.
"Do you really have to live so high up?" questioned the volunteer.
The mailman must hate having to deliver to him.
"Climbing up is the mountain is how I preserve my strength." explained the sensei.
"Well, I did get a good workout." noted Anne.
"You'll get another once your training begins." said Sensei Wu.
"Can I take a breather first?" asked the girl.
Climbing up the mountain had been hard work. She had no idea how the sensei managed to do it all the time, especially given his old age.
But at least the air in the mountains was nice.
"You can, but would you not be interested in meeting my fellow students first?" questioned the man.
"It would be nice to meet the ninjas in the flesh...or should I say bricks?" admitted Anne.
Sure enough, the four of them were still in the courtyard.
"When do you think Sensei Wu will be back?" asked Kai.
"He's probably having a tea break." noted Jay.
How he loved his tea.
Perhaps they should consider giving him a teapot as a present.
Sure enough, Sensei Wu returned.
"I have returned from my task. Say hello to your fellow classmate for me." spoke Wu.
He found it important to be polite.
"Oh boy! I look forward to playing video games with him!" exclaimed Kai.
"You might want to use different pronouns." noted the sensei.
"Huh?" asked Jay.
"Hello!" exclaimed Anne.
"Wait, this new ninja is a girl?" asked Cole, raising his eyebrow curiously.
"Surprised?" questioned Sensei Wu.
"Darn it! Now I can't play video games with her!" shouted Kai. He had been hoping for another boy in the group. But you couldn't always get what you wanted.
"What video games do you have?" asked Anne.
"We have fighting games...and RPGs...we each have our own preference." noted Zane.
"That sounds like fun!" exclaimed the new ninja.
"Huh. I guess I stand corrected." noted Kai.
"I didn't know that girls liked to play video games." remarked Jay.
"The gender does not define one's personality." informed Sensei Wu.
There were some that thought he was feminine growing up, but he decided that he was who he chose to be. Besides, Misako liked him for who he was.
His brother had never gotten that choice, unfortunately.
"I've heard of you! You're the masters of fire, ice, lightning, and earth!" exclaimed Anne.
"That's us!" shouted Kai.
It certainly made them special.
"My name is Anne. I already know what your names are though. So I don't think we'll need further introductions." noted the girl.
"Yeah. A lot of people know who we are." admitted Cole.
"I hope you will show her the ropes." spoke Sensei Wu. It was important for ninjas to help one another.
"I thought you were going to do that." questioned Jay.
"I am. But she can learn from you as well as me." pointed out the sensei.
"He's got a point." noted Anne.
She decided to examine the training course.
"So...this is where you all train?" questioned the girl.
Kai nodded.
She decided to give it a try.
However, she stopped to catch her breath.
She was still worn out from climbing the mountain.
Though she had to admit, the breathtaking view was worth it.
Perhaps she was starting to understand why Sensei Wu lived up there, despite the long walk.
"Not bad...for a beginner." remarked Jay.
"I appreciate the flattery." noted Anne.
After resting, she decided to complete the course.
"Not bad, but I'd like to see you try to beat my record." spoke Kai.
"What's your record?" questioned Anne.
Kai pointed to the wall.
His was 10 seconds.
"Whoa..." spoke the girl.
How did Kai move so fast?
She tried again. This time, she completed the course a few seconds faster.
"By the way, do you think she'll have elemental powers like the rest of us?" questioned Jay.
"Perhaps. It might be a coincidence that we all have elemental powers. But on the other hand, Sensei Wu does as well." pointed out Cole.
Suddenly, a small gust of wind blew from Anne's hand.
"I didn't know I could do that." questioned Anne.
Sensei Wu stopped by.
"It appears that you have a wind affinity." noted Wu.
"I guess I won't be left out then." spoke Anne.
"I have reason to believe that you are the yellow ninja." spoke the man.
"Yellow ninja, huh? It matches my favorite color." noted the girl.
"I was not sure what colored ninja you were at first...but I believe I now have my answer." noted Sensei Wu.
"It figures that one of us would have a wind affinity. We can spin like tornadoes!" exclaimed Jay.
"That's true." noted Cole.
Anne wondered when she would be able to do that.
Since her training was going well, she decided to play video games with Jay.
"Have you played this game before?" asked Jay.
"Maybe once or twice." answered Anne.
She was glad that she was getting along well with her teammates.
They might not be the same gender as her...but who said boys were from different planets?
Although, she did wonder if Zane was an alien of some kind.
He didn't seem to quite fit in with the rest of them.
Though if he was an alien, he was an innocuous alien if she ever saw one. She found it ferociously unlikely that he was planning an alien invasion.
Like the rest of the gang, she happened to enjoy pizza.
Though for some strange reason, Zane didn't seem to want any.
Was he already full?
Nya decided to meet the new ninja.
It was a pleasant surprise to learn that she was a girl.
"Hooray! I'm not the only girl in the LEGO playbox!" exclaimed Nya, raising her hands in the air.
"I'm sure you'll be feeling less lonely as this show goes on." noted Anne.
"Huh?" asked the brunette girl.
"I'm just doing a bit of fourth wall observation." spoke the girl.
"I wish I could do that." remarked Nya. That sounded like fun.
After a day of having fun (which was mixed with training, since she wanted to make Sensei Wu happy), it looked as if was time for her first mission.
An alarm suddenly went off.
Apparently, somebody was causing trouble in a local village.
This troublemaker also had a sweet tooth.
They wondered who it could be.
Well, they needed to stop him before he raided the candy shop.
Luckily, they had fast transportation.
"You ride dragons?!" exclaimed Anne.
"Sure do!" nodded Jay.
"I sure hope that you don't scare people when you arrive at your destinations." noted the girl.
"Don't worry. They won't bite." assured Kai.
"Right, of course." nodded Anne.
The five of them set out to their destination.
It was the village of Jamanakai.
Though they had to admit, fighting a candy thief seemed underwhelming compared to fighting Lord Garmadon himself.
Still, they were going to do what they did best.
No doubt the villagers would be pleased with them.
"I almost forgot. Here is your ninja uniform." spoke Sensei Wu.
It was a yellow ninja costume.
"Now we have all three primary colors!" exclaimed Kai.
"We also have white and black, coincidentally." spoke Zane.
Anne noted that a candy thief didn't seem like much...but a kunoichi had to start somewhere.
Besides, she doubted that she was ready for big opponents yet. She hadn't come close to to the other ninja's high scores on the training course. Though she had come close to Jay's high score in Ninja Fight.
"I wonder if they'll let me have some of the candy." thought Anne.
I hope you like this story so far.
Let me know if you have any ideas.
For now I'll be focusing on the first arc, the Rise of the Serpentine.
They were the first villains in Ninjago (other than Lord Garmadon and his literal skeleton crew), so I figured that I would include them in this fanfic.
And yes, she likes to play video games. I figured she might as well join the rest of the gang in their fun.
