A ravishing female with shoulder-length curly auburn hair stepped outside her gorgeous house one Saturday morning. She paused momentarily to bask in the sight of some hummingbirds at their unique feeders. "Charming," she whispered to herself. She smoothed her v-neck turquoise short-sleeved shirt out before strolling towards town. A few men she passed by tried to catch her eye, and she only smiled.
However, she didn't appreciate it when one man commented on how nice her butt looked in her trousers. That wasn't the type of attention she wanted. The woman Kathleen Wells never understood why men were so obsessed with a woman's chest and rear. After all, true beauty is found within one's heart and soul. You could look like an angel and yet be a devil in disguise for all anyone knew! Still, she pushed it out of her mind as she continued to Amity Park's coffee shop "Brooke's Brew."
Kathleen was on her way to meet her cousin, Maddie Fenton. It was strange seeing how on Sunday, she had met Maddie Masters. Kathleen Wells wasn't an ordinary woman. The godlike Ancients of the Ghost Zone had given her life so she may help her children. Both the Fentons and Masters sustain their cover story whenever they choose to visit the other reality.
The Ancients had created her from an infusion of Maddie's DNA, ethereal energy, and a couple of lost souls. Kathleen, by no means, was a clone of Maddie. She was more like her sister, but the cover story was she was her third cousin. She was literally all five of Maddie's children's second mother. She did her most reasonable not to overstep when she was with either version of Maddie or their shared offspring. However, neither Maddie felt an ill will towards Kathleen being a second mother for the children.
Not only had the Ancients granted her the gift of life, but they also made sure she had a life to live. Her captivating interdimensional home connected to both Peace Valley and Amity Park. Plus, the Ghost Zone and her Haven. Either way, she worked as an advice columnist in both realities. Plus wrote a blog since more people are online these days.
She finally reached the coffee shop, and like Maddie Masters, Maddie Fenton had already ordered their coffee and bagel sandwiches. She waved to the taller woman in the blue hazmat suit. One significant difference between Masters and Fenton, when it came to Maddie, was her wardrobe. As Maddie Fenton, she never wore anything but a blue hazmat. At least as Maddie Masters, she wore regular clothes when not on the clock. However, that wasn't here or there at the moment.
"Good morning, Maddie! How are you today?" Kathleen asked as she slung her royal purple handbag around the back of the chair. She sighed happily as she inhaled the heavenly aroma of her morning coffee.
"I'm doing fine, Kathleen. Thanks for asking. I must say it is taking longer then I would like for the air quality to improve. I'm surprised you're not wearing a mask. You know they're advising people to stay indoors because of the haze," Maddie pointed out worriedly. Just looking out the cafe windows, you could see the thick haze.
"I did wear a mask, Maddie. I just removed it before I came in. I wish we weren't getting all this haze from the Canadian blazes. I was hoping yesterday's thunderstorm would've alleviated the air more," Kathleen grumbled. It wasn't easy not being able to be outside when the weather was otherwise nice. But you didn't want to breathe in contaminated air either.
"Well, it did help some. Do you want to have your sandwich first?" asked Maddie, and her cousin nodded.
"Yep, I'm quite famished. That's what I get from working late on my latest blog entry. It took till 11:30 to finalize my article to post this morning. I frankly need some caffeine," as she sipped her ice latte.
"I've stayed up too late myself, occasionally. Particularly when Jack and I were originally constructing our ghost portal. We periodically didn't sleep for three days while working on it!" Maddie recalled with a heavy sigh.
"Everyone needs to remember that its essential to finish your projects. However, don't try to finish them when you need your rest. It can wait till the morning. Everyone needs their beauty sleep," Kathleen giggled.
Maddie couldn't help but snort into her coffee. She quickly cleaned herself up before saying, "True. However, I don't know what your ex-husband Alexei slept like. But Jack snores big time. I've had to use earplugs to get a decent night's sleep!"
Kathleen gave her cousin a sympathetic look before answering, "The worst my ex-husband ever did was disregard me whenever the ludicrous Packers were on the TV. He forgot the rest of the world existed whenever those idiots were on TV!" Both women couldn't help but burst into giggles over that. Again, they're so fortunate to have each other.
Maddie didn't have companions being the town kook. Plus, again, she wasn't close to her sister. Alicia never approved of Jack. Furthermore, she didn't seem to like Jazz or Danny that much. Alicia was a bitter and hardened woman who preferred to live in isolation without modern conveniences. Still, Alicia wasn't pleasant to be around, so Maddie was grateful to have her cousin living nearby. Maddie did spend some time talking about her estranged sister. How her older sister and her never indeed saw eye to eye.
"I've written a few articles about how to deal with dysfunctional family members. You know, covering the warning signs of when you need to go no contact with them. Its not unproblematic to help folks these days recognize what healthy relationships are. Since it has been normalized by the media too much, toxic behavior is entirely acceptable. However, I made it unmistakable to my readers that age isn't an excuse for negative behavior, and accountability is essential," Kathleen stated firmly.
"I've not paid much attention to the TV or the like. Yet, I do understand what you're saying, Kathleen. I worry about my son and his friends. His friend Sam isn't the most likable individual."
"Again, which is why my daughter Ceci stepped in to help Danny talk to her and Tucker. Again, you can cut someone slack if they are ignorant of their unhealthy behavior. However, I'll cut you no slack once you've become conscious of it."
"It's remarkable how much your perspective changes with age. How we regard the world and its people changes greatly throughout our lives. Again, the way we saw things as teens aren't the same as we see them now, is it?"
"Nope, it's not. It's why I've been writing so much about identifying the warning signs of toxic and unhealthy relationships. Again its so normalized in TV, movies, and video games, except reality is vastly different. Even if too many souls have a hard time telling reality from fiction. Again, I disapprove of today's video games because they've distorted the younger generations' perception."
"I don't know about that. I mean, I understand your POV. But I don't think its fair to make it a blanket statement," Maddie said reasonably.
"True, Maddie. You are correct about that. I wish things could return to simpler times before the massive technology overload. Back when people could be human beings and not glued to their smartphones and tablets," Kathleen commented sadly.
"I know. The world has changed for the worse in multiple ways. So if the end is near? Its because we're trying to end ourselves," Maddie remarked as she finished her ice latte.
"Well, I wanted to ask if you want to go bargain hunting with me. The Goodwill has its monthly sale, and conceivably you should find a few outfits that aren't hazmat suits?" Kathleen suggested kindly.
Maddie thought it over for a few minutes before nodding. "Maybe having a few different outfits to change into will help people stop calling us oddballs or nutters. So let's go! I'll drive."
"It's not the RV is it?" Kathleen cringed at the thought of the Fenton Assault Vehicle.
Maddie quickly waved aside her cousin's fear. "No, I do own my own car. So let's go!" as they hurried out to go shopping.
