Hello everyone, here with a new story. This is slightly AU and rated for reasons. This is a replacement for my deleted story Zero's Changeling and I plan on going back to broken and thanks to the cat one day. I know I said that before and it's been a while since the last updates, but I'm hitting a brick wall with both stories, even though I only have like one or two chapters left for one of them…getting off topic, please enjoy the first chapter.
A blue-haired, 7-year-old boy sat in the far corner of the dark room, quietly munching on a plant when his eyes widened as his body began to shake uncontrollably as he began to grow and growl inhumanly. The six-foot creature stood in the middle of the room, the plant in its mouth as it looked around before it swung its massive claws down, tearing opening n interdimensional doorway before it jumped through it. And the doorway closed behind it.
The 7-year-old boy stood in the middle of six young demonesses, one with red hair, another with lime-green hair, a third with pink hair, the fourth with light blue hair, another with shoulder-length blonde hair and the sixth with long blonde hair pulled back into a ponytail. The demonesses slowly approached the boy before the one with red hair spoke and the boy looked at her in confusion, "What?"
The small group of children were approached by thirteen grown demons and the boy's eyes narrowed be growling at them, the plant still clinched in his teeth before the eldest demon, a balding man with a white mustache snapped his fingers and a bright light surrounded the boy for a second, "Now you can understand the demon language, human,"
"Demon l…what did you call me!" he ran up to the demon and began punching him, "I am a Changeling, grandpa, not a human!"
A tall demon, with long red hair, picked the boy up and brought him up to his height and narrowed his eyes, "How do you keep coming back? We've sent you away three weeks ago after erasing your memories of the Netherworld and yet here you are, back again," the boy began shaking with fear, "Well boy?" the boy's began to twist and turn before his body turned into a mouse and he slipped out of the man's grasp before running back to the demonesses.
The boy looked up at the adults and shook as he hid behind the demoness with red hair, "Well that's a new one," a woman with long, blonde hair stepped forward and crossed her arms, "Usually we'd just put him to sleep and erase the memory of everything that he's seen and just to be on the safe side, we do the same with Haruno, Clara, Eiko, Kerori, Ameri and Elizabetta, but before we had the chance to do anything this time, he turned himself into a rodent and…why is he hiding behind the girls?"
"None of your business, lady!" the woman glared down at the boy and he quickly ducked behind the six again.
A man with short red hair and a woman with shoulder-length pink hair walked around the six children and looked down at the boy. The boy looked up and hissed before hiding the plant away from them, "You can keep the plant, boy," he looked down at the plant in a daze, "All I want is to put my hand on your head, can I do-" the boy growled as the woman sighed and shook her head, "No one will try to hurt you or take that plant that seems to be important to you. All I'm asking is that you trust me and let me put my hand on your head,"
The boy stared at the two demons in front of him before he began munching on the plant again, "Hey, don't eat that, you have no idea where it's-" the boy growled at the man, revealing sharp fangs, causing the man to jump back slightly, "Fine, you can eat the damn plant, geez,"
The boy continued to munch on the plant as he leaned forward slightly, "What? You're going to let me put my hand on your head?" the boy nodded as the woman took a deep breath and slowly reached up, resting her hand on the top of his head before closing her eyes. Her eyes soon shot open widely before she stepped away from the boy, grabbed her husband by the arm and began leading him and the other demons to the other room.
The six demonesses looked at the boy before the one with red hair asked, "So you're a hum-"
"Changeling," the boy hissed before taking a deep breath, "My name is Iruma,"
"Hi, I'm Clara," the demoness with lime-green hair smiled.
"Haruno," the pink-haired demon spoke.
The red-haired demon tilted her head to the side in confusion, "Ameri,"
"Elizabetta," the demoness with the long ponytail said.
"K-Kerori," the blue-haired demon said shyly.
"Eiko," the sixth demoness said before the seven of them began talking calmly to one another.
The thirteen demons stood in the other room as the pink-haired woman looked back into the room at the seven children before a woman with light blue hair spoke in an emotionless tone, "What did you see, Mana?"
"He…he's the boy we saved two years ago," the demons stood stunned as the woman continued, "And his parents…his parents are vile creatures that should have never been conceived,"
"Wait, I don't understand," her husband spoke, "The kid we saved? After injecting him with the untested vaccine, he turned into a fox an…and took off like a bat out of hell before we returned to the Netherworld," the demons looked out into the room and stared at the intruder as Iruma stared back at them with wide eyes, "What about his parents? And what's so special about that plant he's eating?"
"His parents, after learning that he can turn into different animals, decided to use that for their own personal gain and treat him like he was dirt. That plant is the only food he has for the week and if he loses it, his parents will starve him until the next week,"
"Damn," the demon with short green hair spoke, "But how does he keep coming back? We've sent him back four times already and each time he keeps coming back,"
Everyone looked at the pink-haired woman as she sighed and shook her head, "There were thoughts throughout his mind, but they were blocked by something primitive, so I have no idea how he keeps coming back and why it's only when the girls are together,"
"Still," the old demon said in a serious tone and everyone looked at him, "If his homelife is as Mana said it to be, it'll be reckless and careless of us to send him back to the human world. For now, I think I will bring him home with me,"
"Oh, and why is that?" the woman with long, bushy, lime-green hair asked, "Why would you want to take the boy home with you, Lord Sullivan?"
"I was thinking that maybe I can calm the boy down whenever he seems to be getting violent and everyone here already has enough worries on their plate," before anyone could argue, the demons sighed and walked out of the room and up to the seven.
Iruma and Sullivan entered a mansion and Iruma looked around before looking up at the old demon and frowned, "Um…why are we here? I thought you demons were going to send me home an-"
"While we were going to send you home, that demon who you allowed to place her hand on top of your head has a special form of Bloodline Magic. She was seeing your memories and she saw how your family has been treating you and so we thought if we were to send you back, not only would you find away back to the Netherworld, but your parents will continue to torment you,"
"And…and she said you demons saved me," Sullivan looked down in confusion as Iruma brushed his hair behind his ears, revealing his ears were pointed upward, "I can hear really good. But…why save a human? I thought demons hated humans an-"
"Weren't you the one who said you're something called a Changeling?" Iruma frowned as he looked away, "But to answer your question, my boy, you were and still are just an innocent child and dying in such a way is most unforgiveable, and us demons have many pharmaceutical practices, unfortunately, you were a test subject for that one vaccine we had given you."
"But why bring me back here? There were plenty of other demons there an-"
"Well, you see, boy…besides myself, I have my butler Opera, and I don't really have a family of my own, and my friends Levi and Belli always brag about their grandkids and it makes very jealous knowing that I won't have a grandkid of my own to spoil and so I have a proposition for you,"
"A what?"
Sullivan sighed and slightly smiled, "A deal, my boy, a deal. Allow me to adopt you as my grandson and you have my word that no one will try to send you back to the human world. After all, you've already called my grandpa earlier,"
"I…I was trying to be mean,"
Sullivan continued to smile as he patted the top of the boy's head, "The choice is yours, Iruma. If you want me to adopt you, all you have to do is say so and sign the parchment," Iruma looked up, "Do you wish to be the grandson of an all powerful demon and never have to worry about going back to the human world with those awful parents of yours?" Iruma nodded and Sullivan held out a parchment of paper and the young boy signed his name as best as he could.
Once he was finish, Sullivan doused the boy with a tub of perfume and Iruma looked up in confusion, "That's just to mask your scent. A few demons know what you are, but that doesn't mean that others will be as accepting as we are. If they learn what you are, they most likely will devour you," Iruma's eyes widened, "But it should be fine just as long as they don't know what you are," Iruma silently nodded, "Now, are you hungry? I can have Opera whip something up an-"
"I…I can't eat meat…I…I just…I'm sorry, Mr. Sulli-"
"Oh please, it's no big deal and you are to call me grandpa, okay?"
"G-grandpa?" Sullivan nodded as he led the boy down the hall.
Time slowly passed and the small child was led into a room. Iruma looked around to see a bed, a dresser and several other pieces of furniture, "This will be your room, Iruma," Sullivan said as Iruma looked up in confusion, "What's wrong, grandson?"
"N-nothing…grandpa,"
Sullivan hummed, "Well if you say so. You should get some sleep, though. We've got a busy day ahead of us tomorrow," Iruma looked at him and tilted his head to the side, "We have to meet up with everyone else and we'd like to know how you keep coming back to the Netherworld even after erasing your memory and sending you home," Iruma frowned as he hung his head, "Get some sleep now, grandson, and I'll see you in the morning," Iruma nodded as he walked towards the bed and Sullivan walked out of the room.
The lights turned off as Iruma crawled under the covers and the young child looked around with a small frown painted across his lips, "A room? I got my own room? I've never had one before…mom and dad always makes me sleep in the living room on the floor," he laid down and closed his eyes, "This feels nice," turning on his side, he slowly drifted off to sleep.
Sullivan walked down the hall of the mansion when he was approached by a demon with red hair tied in a braid, "Sir, if you don't mind me asking, why adopt this child?" Sullivan looked at the demon, "You have the power to adopt any and all demon children you want and you go and adopt this…Changeling boy. Why is that, sir?"
"Because, Opera, I want to show Iruma what it's like to have a loving family and plus…I believe he will be the one to heal the Netherworld…he has potential, he just needs the right motivation," the older demon responded, "One day you will understand why we're refusing to send him back to the human world besides saving him from his family and why I chose to adopt him, but for now, I believe it's time to retire for the evening."
"Of course, sir," Opera nodded before the two of them walked down the hall in silence.
I don't know if this will be the only chapter where they're younger than canon or if I'll have one more planned. Please enjoy.
