Chapter 1
Within a small house, a conversation was beginning to reach its conclusion. "You are going to do this and that's final! You haven't done any real work in over a year! I'm starting to worry about you, Shero."
"I'm afraid I have to agree, Shirou. You can't keep living off doing small repairs, tinkering in your workshop all day, or traveling around with that suitcase. This will be good for you, besides, it'll only be for a month. At least, until we find a suitable replacement." Spoke one of two people in the room. She was Celica Arfonia, one of the professors at the Alzano Imperial Magic Academy.
"See, Shero, it'll only be a month. Besides, who knows, maybe you'll actually enjoy it." The voice from Shirou's communicator added. Luviagelita Edelfelt, Shirou's partner and self proclaimed fiancee was a handful on the best of days. Though, Shirou didn't really mind, he did enjoy her company. Shirou rubbed the back of his head, before letting out a sigh.
"But I've never taught anyone magic before, well technically I haven't." He replied with a lazy smile. He really hadn't, at least not in this life or world. Actually, there was that one girl that he taught projection to, but she ended up mixing it with alchemy and he hadn't seen her in a year or so. Still, the point stood. "Besides, you both know that my magic is specialized."
Celina only looked at him with a deadpan expression. "Shirou, I know that you can be a great teacher if you really wanted to. Just give it a try Shirou, for me. I'm also worried about you." She said with a sad tinge to her voice. Shirou slightly winced, before letting out a deep breath.
"Alright, fine, you both win." He replied, noticing Celica's demeanor lighten significantly. "However, I reserve the right to keep doing my side gig when I'm free." He added on with a small smirk. Celica's eyes widened, before she let out a small snicker. Just as she did, Luvia's voice rang out.
"NO! You're wasting your talents as a repair man Shero!" Shirou let out a laugh afterwards. He heard a small whine come from his communicator, "You're just teasing me aren't you?"
"I have no idea what you're talking about." He gave a small smile to Celica. "When do I start?"
Within the town of Fejite, two young girls were currently heading to class. "Rumia, you can't use magic out public like that." A girl with silver hair and cat ear shaped ribbons in her hair said to her friend. Rumia Tingel, a short hair blonde girl with a green bow, let out a nervous laugh.
"Sorry, Sistine, I just couldn't help myself from helping him." She said in a soft voice. Sistine only gave a soft smile to her friend.
"It's fine, you just have to be a bit more careful." She said, though her friend's eyes wasn't focused on her. Sistine tilted her head quizzically, before following her line of sight and seeing just what, or rather, who she was looking at.
He looked to be only a few years older than them, dressed in a orange trench coat, white button up shirt, blue jeans, and black shoes and gloves. His messy short red hair was eye-catching, though, what really caught Sistine's attention was what looked like a unlit cigarette in his mouth. He had a lazy smile on his face as he was doing some kind of performance for three children.
The two girls watched as he showed them his hands and rolled up the sleeves of his coat, before saying something to the kids, who's eyes widened and a cheerful look appeared on their faces. He reached behind one of the kids' ears, before retracting his hand and showing them a coin. The kids seemed amazed at the rather mundane 'magic trick'.
Sistine only rolled her eyes, as real magic existed and was way cooler than simple sleight of hand tricks. However, her attention was piqued when he gripped the coin tightly, before opening it to reveal a silver butterfly. She quirked her brow, realizing that he must have been a mage. She watched as he placed the silver butterfly in the little girl's hair as a hairpin.
"That's really sweet of him, don't you think Sistine?" Rumia said to her, though Sistine only nodded her head as she watched what looked to be a owl of some kind fly down and land on his shoulder. The kids watched as he made the owl follow a few commands, before he whistled, the owl flew into the air and circled the kids. He lifted a finger to the cigarette, lighting it easily, which somewhat surprised Sistine.
He blew out some big smoke circles, which the owl began to fly through. A trail of glitter or something began to come off the owl, before he took the cigarette out and touched the glitter, causing it to catch fire. The owl flew high into the air before making the shape of a flower out of the flaming trail. The kids and even a few adults began to clap at the trick.
He extinguished the cigarette, before reaching into his pocket and pulling out two more coins, he flipped them into the air, before catching two sword shaped pins, which he gave to the other two children, both boys. He patted the children on the head before saying goodbye. He turned and began to walk towards where Rumia and Sistine were.
The two girls each had a smile on their faces, before they realized they were standing in the way of where he was heading. However, they were surprised when the man's eyes widened. He smiled at them, before reaching them. "I take it you girls liked my act?"
Rumia's eyes widened, before she shook her head. "Of course, most mages don't really go out of their way to entertain children. I thought it was really sweet." She said to him, Sistine noticed a very faint blush on the stranger's slightly tanned face. She watched as he began to rub the back of his head.
"Oh, well, I don't think I've had someone give me that compliment before. Thanks." He looked at the both of them again, before continuing. "Judging by you're outfits, I'm guessing you two are students of the magic academy?"
"Yeah, we were just headed there now. Are you a student there?" Rumia asked him. Sistine was a bit surprised that she was making conversation with him. He let out a small chuckle at her question.
"Something like that. Well, you two better get going, otherwise you'll be late for class." He said to them, checking his watch in the process.
Sistine raised an eyebrow, "What about you? If you're a student, you should hurry too. Being tardy is a bad habit." She said with her hands on her hips. The man's eyes slightly widened, before he let out a sigh.
"Geez, you're just like Sara." He mumbled under his breath, though Sistine managed to hear him, but just barely. "I have one more stop to make before heading to class. It shouldn't take too long, just a simple repair job." He said to her. "Well, I think we all should be on our ways. If I see you at the academy, I'll be sure to introduce myself properly." He then put his hands in his pockets before his cigarette lit up again. He brought one hand out and put on a pair of glasses.
The two girls watched as the stranger walked away, though Sistine noticed that Rumia seemed captivated by something. "Um, Rumia, are you okay?" Rumia seemed to snap out of it, before she looked back at her with an awkward smile on her face.
"O-of course, Sisti, I just had a case of deja vu is all." She answered. Though Sistine felt like there was more to it than just simple deja vu. Then again, Rumia could only be interested in the magic he used. After all, she was interested in it too.
It didn't take long for the girls to get to class, just in time to see Professor Celica Arfonia. A mage almost all the students looked up to for her prowess and knowledge. "Well, children, as you all know, you will be getting a temporary instructor to replace professor Huey. Though he'll only be here for a month, I will say that he is a very capable mage. So, be sure to welcome him and give him a chance. That's all."
Celica walked out of the classroom and began to walk down the hallway. Shirou was already supposed to be there when she gave that announcement, yet he was late. If it was Glenn, Celica would bet that he was just being lazy or trying to impress Sara. However, with Shirou, she knew that he was more than likely late because he was busy helping someone out.
While she was still a bit upset that he was late for his first day, she could put up with it since he was always helping people out. She let out a sigh, 'Honestly, that boy just can't help himself can he?" She mused. She had half a mind to contact him, but decided against it. Besides, he was likely on his way. If not, well, adopted son or not, she would give him a piece of her mind. She'd probably get Luvia to join in too.
A smile formed on her face, remembering her three adopted children. Particularly the looks on their faces when she showed them different kinds of magic. Though, she knew all three enjoyed the magic circle trick. That was a memory that would be in her heart forever, how all three of her children's faces lit up upon seeing it.
She hoped that Shirou would finally start getting back into the swing of things. After that little outing a year ago, he began to distance himself. She knew why he chose to stay close, but to distance himself too, it worried her. She missed the days when him and Glenn would talk about being heroes of justice, while Luvia chided both of them for their lack of fashion sense, among other things.
She let out a sigh, speaking of Luvia, she needed to have a talk with her about her spending habits. Her specific brand of magic needed gems and jewels, so that was understandable, however, spending excess money on dresses and such was a bit too much. A devilish smile appeared on her face, she'd have to come up with an appropriate punishment for Luvia's recent incident. She was looking forward to it.
He was late. He did feel a bit bad for it, however, he had a legitimate excuse. Though, he had a feeling Celica wouldn't care. Sometimes, Celica could be scarier than his mom and aunt, and that was saying something. He hoped they were doing okay without him, though, if he knew them as well as he thought he did. Well, he was constantly looking over his shoulder in case they managed to get that old vampire to use his kaleidoscope to find him.
Worries for another day he supposed, especially since he was about to head into a classroom of students. Granted, he was the son of Touko Aozaki herself, so he wasn't an amateur. He was taught by her, The Blue Aoko Aozaki A.K.A his aunt, and Kiritsugu Emiya before he died, so he thought he was pretty knowledgeable. Then again, the magic system here was much different from back home. So, back to square one.
He looked at the door, before letting out a sigh. He supposed he would just wing it, like his aunt liked to do. He reached into his pocket and put on the mystic eye killers his mom made for him. He was glad that he was able to keep most of his things when him and Luvia ended up getting transported here, though he didn't like getting turned into a kid again.
All in all, he didn't need the glasses, he just used them for the same reason his mom used glasses. He may not have another personality like her, but it did help him get into a certain headspace. Plus, he didn't have to worry about headaches from keeping his eyes unactivated while wearing them.
He ran his hand through his hair, before finally mustering up the courage to walk through the door. "Sorry, I'm late everyone." He said as he opened the door and stepped through the doorway, however he heard a familiar voice call out.
"Finally, you showed up! A teacher shouldn't be late to his own class, especially at this academy!" He turned his head towards the source and saw the silver haired girl from earlier. "What's the..." She stopped as her eyes widened. "Wait, you're that guy from earlier!" A small smile formed on his face when he saw her reaction.
"I am indeed that guy from earlier." He said, his smile turning into a small smirk. He walked over to the desk at the front of the room. He took off his orange jacket and placed it onto the desk before rolling the sleeves of his button up shirt. He looked over the class, before turning around and heading to the chalkboard.
Sistine and Rumia were somewhat surprised to see him wearing a small necklace with a purple gemstone of some kind. They hadn't noticed it before because of his jacket and shirt being buttoned up higher than it was now. It wasn't that big of a deal to Sistine, she just found it interesting that he would wear a necklace like that. Rumia, however, was interested in it, wondering about the specifics of the necklace.
Their thoughts were cut short when Shirou started speaking. He began to write his name on the chalkboard. "My name is Shirou Aozaki, I'll be your substitute professor for the next month." Naturally, this surprised the class, specifically Sistine and Rumia.
"Wow, who would have thought that he'd be a professor? I wonder how old he is?" Rumia whispered offhandedly. Though, Sistine wondered that herself. Shirou turned around with a smile on his face and looked directly at Rumia, surprising her.
"I'm eighteen years old, to answer your question." Both of their eyes widened, wondering how he heard that. "If you think I'm not qualified or whatever, take it up with Celica. Now, let's see, where to begin?" He said to himself, adopting a thinking pose.
"Shouldn't you skip the introductions? Class has already started." Sistine stated, deciding not to be too loud, since she remembered him saying he was repairing something for someone. She thought that was an 'okay' reason, however, if it was a constant thing, she'd have a problem with it. Shirou thought about it for a moment, before nodding his head.
"Sure, I don't mind doing that. Hey, glasses, can you open up that window real quick?" He asked, though he felt like he sounded a bit too much like his mom for a second. The boy scowled, before standing and pushing open a pane of glass.
"The name's Gibul." He stated, "What's this reason for this?" Shirou brought a hand up to the cigarette in his mouth, however, he didn't light it. He took it out and pointed outside with it, before placing back into his mouth. Gibul furrowed his brows, before looking outside just in time to see what looked like an owl fly through the window.
He flailed backwards, the window closing as he did so. The owl flew over to the desk before landing on top of it. Upon closer inspection, the students noticed the owl was a bit off. However, they didn't bring any attention to it. Shirou raised a brow at their lack of questions, as he was pretty sure seeing an owl doll as a familiar would have caught their interest.
He let out a disappointed sigh. The first time his mom showed him an owl doll familiar, he thought it was the coolest thing ever. He blamed all of the flashy magic that was present in the world. He supposed he should get started on teaching them something. "So, let's see, names and seats." He did a once over, easily memorizing everything before looking back up. "Rumia Tingel, what were you learning before I replaced the professor?"
Rumia sat up straight as she began to answer his question. "Um, we were learning about the runic language and different spells." Shirou hummed in response, before opening the book and looking through the pages.
"I see, so we're still going over the basics." He muttered. However, the class was upset by that statement, especially Sistine.
"What do you mean still going over the basics? We were farther ahead than just the basics." Sistine pointed out, the rest of the class nodding their heads at her words. Shirou raised a brow.
"So you say, but I haven't really seen where each of you are at right now. For all I know, you all just shorten shock bolt's incantation and call it quits, thinking you have it mastered. My brother and I actually did a lot of hard work to reach true mastery over different kinds of magic, then we noticed that most people who graduate the academies are unprepared when going out into the world. I may only be here for a month, but I want to at least get you all started on the right path." Shirou flipped his piece of chalk into the air.
"What do you mean? Of course we learn how to shorten the spell, mana manipulation is one of the most important things to learn." Sistine answered him, wanting to know where he was going with his statement. Shirou hummed, before looking down at his watch.
"Well, I can understand that. It is important, however, words and language are by far the most important. I'd like to get into it now, but the class is just about over. It can wait, though I want to say, I want you to think on what I said. Sure, you may think I don't know what I'm talking about, but I'll just prove it to you so you can think on it rather than ignore me." Shirou thought about what spell to use.
He was still pretty limited in this new world, as his origin and element had nothing to do with the five elements. Still, he had a crest and the new world's magic system allowed him to use some elemental spells. However, he figured, simple was better. In his mind, the image of a firework exploding appeared, "Trace on."
He held out his hand, a fake magic circle appeared on his palm, something he learned how to do in order to trick people into thinking he was performing a type of alchemy. He decided to go with something that had a 'wow' factor. In his hand, appeared Caliburn, the sword of selection. Each student looked on with awe, obviously wondering what Shirou did.
He grabbed it and gave it a few swings, before putting it in front of him. "See, simple as that. Self hypnosis and self suggestion activated through words. With two little words, I created this." Sadly, this wouldn't work for them, not unless he wanted to go all out and teach them like he did with Re=L. However, it still served his point.
Right after, the bell rang, signaling the end of class. With a mental command, Caliburn faded away into motes of light. The students were all still looking at him with wide eyes. 'If they think that's impressive, then they'll enjoy going over original magic. I still have my Moon Arcana card in my jacket, but I don't think I'll show them that yet.
He took of his glasses for a moment, before quickly putting them back on. Wearing the glasses for too long tended to mess with his perception, so it was necessary to take them off every once in awhile. However, he didn't notice Rumia and Sistine catching a glimpse of his different color eyes. He quickly put on his jacket and began to make his way out of the room. "Think on it and be sure to keep an open mind. Knowledge is power. See you guys next class."
He walked out and headed to the roof. Hopefully the kids would be willing to listen. He was sure that Glenn would be better at explaining all of this, but he'd have to make due. He didn't want him making fun of him for messing up explaining something simple. He'd never hear the end of it.
He leaned against wall of the roof as he lit the cigarette in his mouth. Honestly, he didn't really like smoking. Back home, he would just have them unlit, but here, he smoked them to feel a little closer to his mom. The smell reminded him of her. He wondered how she smoked this specific brand though, it really didn't taste that great. He took out the cigarette and wrote a few runes in the air, causing a small blue flame to dance around in the air.
He called it a will o the wisp, but it was really nothing more than a parlor trick. He sat on the ground and watched the flame dance, blowing a few circles around it as it did so. It was going to be a long month, though he supposed it wouldn't be too bad. Teaching in an academy was basically a guarantee that he would have a nice peaceful atmosphere.
He had grown tired of fighting and killing. He knew Luvia was the same, which was why he couldn't wait until she hurried up and joined him at the academy. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the Moon Arcana. 'Sara, I hope you can keep Glenn's dream alive.' He thought to himself. He smiled as his thoughts strayed to his new family. 'A fool, The moon, The sun, and the World, what a family we make, eh Celica.'
New story finished. Wanted to get this out while it was stuck in my head. I took a vacation and wasn't able to upload, but I'm back now baby. Finally got around to my Akashic records crossover. Will diverge from canon, obviously. More answers will come next chapter. RWBY and Marksman and Vanadis updates are coming soon. I have two more crosses I want to get out, Shield hero and Familiar of Zero. I reworked my drafts and changed some things around. The other stories will come too, but later. I may release a drafts anthology, of all my ideas for other stories or different routes I had in mind. Haven't decided. Anyways, that's all. Until next time.
