Heading back to school will be different this year. I have a son now. Blue eyes, and black hair. He looks nothing like me. I guess he looks like his dad. I got pregnant with him at a college party I snuck into. I don't remember his dad at all though.

Blaise, he is such a happy baby. I had him days before my parents died in an accident. They were picking up my twin from a party after a fight with her boyfriend. She wasn't supposed to be at the party either. I'm happy they got to meet my son, though. Blaise wakes up and I change, then feed him.

"Hurry up, Bonnie's driving us," Elena says.

"I'll meet you at school. I have to drop off Blaise." I reply back. I change into something to wear to school. I head down the stairs, Jenna, Jeremy, and Elena are already down there.

"Morning Jer," I greet my little brother.

"Morning Evie and Blaise," he greets in return. He takes Blaise from my hands and gives him a cuddle. Jer has had a hard time adjusting to mom and dad being gone, but him and I stayed close.

"Toast. I can make toast," Jenna says running around looking overwhelmed.

"It's all about the coffee, Aunt Jenna." Elena says pouring herself a cup.

"Is there coffee?" Jer asks looking up from playing with Blaise.

He goes and steals Elena's cup. He takes a sip and Blaise tries to grab at it. I take him from Jer this way Jer can drink his coffee without having to worry about dodging a baby's grabby hands.

"Your fist day of school and I'm totally unprepared. Lunch money?" Jenna asks holding out money.

What Jenna doesn't know is I prepared and put school stuff in my car for Jer and me. I know he won't have anything so having a notebook for him might be useful.

"I'm good," Elena and I reply. Jer takes it. He's probably going to spend it on drugs though. Little brother is coping this way.

"Anything else? A number two pencil? What am I missing?" Jenna asks.

"Don't you have a big presentation, today?" I ask her suddenly remembering her telling us about that.

"I'm meeting with my thesis advisor at... now, crap!" Jenna realizes after looking at her watch.

"Then go. We'll be fine." Elena tells her. "You okay?" She asks turning to Jer. She has really tried to take on the parent role.

"Don't start." Jer tells her walking away. I give her a let it go look.

"I'm heading out to go drop of Blaise. See you at school." I say.

I grab both mine and Blaise's bags and walk out the door, with him. Carol Lockwood agreed to look after Blaise while I'm in school. I think she misses Tyler being a baby. I drive there

"Hey Tyler," I greet when he answers the door.

"Hey Evelyn," he says stepping out of the way.

"You need a ride to school?" I ask.

"I have my truck, but a ride is always nice." He tells me.

"Evelyn, Blaise, so nice to see you two." Carol greets with a smile walking over to us.

"Morning Carol. Blaise has a good morning, so hopefully that will make a good day." I tell her handing her Blaise and putting his diaper bag down.

"Sounds good. See you after school." She dismisses.

Tyler and I both leave and get in my car. I drive to the school. We both go our separate ways when we get to the school. Him to meet up with Matt. Myself going to meet up with Bonnie and Elena. Tyler and I have always gotten along well. Elena and Matt were thrown together, and Tyler and I were thrown together. Unlike Matt and Elena, we didn't date. We just stayed close friends. Tyler having no siblings he thought of me more like a sister. Which suits me just fine, for I think of him like a brother.

"Major lack of male real estate. Look at the shower curtain on Kelly Beech. She looks like a hot- can I still say, 'Tranny mess'?" Bonnie asks Elena as I walk up.

"No, that's over." Elena replies.

"Ahh, find a man, coin a phrase. It's a busy year." Bonnie says.

"I'll help you coin a phrase, don't worry." I tell her. Elena waves at Matt and he ignores her.

"He hates me," she says disappointed.

"That's not hate. That's 'you dumped me, but I'm too cool to show it, but secretly I'm listening to Air Supply's greatest hits'" Bonnie tells her.

"Elena, Evelyn. Oh my god." Caroline calls walking up to us. My sweet bestie gave me a hug.

"How are you? Oh, it's so good to see you." She turns to Bonnie. "How are they? Are they good?" Care means well. But she seems to forget herself sometimes.

"Caroline, I'm right here and I'm fine, thank you." Elena tells her.

"I'm doing as good as I can. Blaise is helping." I reply. My focus on being an amazing mother is really helping me move forward.

"Really?" She asks.

"Yes. Much better." Elena lies.

"Oh, you poor thing." Caroline says giving her a hug.

"Okay Caroline," Elena says trying to get my concerned bestie off of her.

"You should go check about cheerleading." I tell her.

"Okay, see you guys later?" She asks.

"Okay! Bye!" Bonnie exclaims.

"Laters Care," I tell her.

"No comment." Elena says when Care is gone.

"I'm not going to say anything." Bonnie says.

Bonnie was always closer with Elena, while I was always closer with Caroline. It just seemed to work out that way. We walk towards class and stop outside the school office.

"Hold up. Who's this?" Bonnie asks looking at the guy standing in the office. I shrug.

"All I see is back." Elena replies.

"It's a hot back," Bonnie comments.

"Maybe this is your guy." I say to Bonnie with a chuckle.

"Maybe," she agrees. "I'm sensing Seattle and he plays guitar." Bonnie jokes.

"You're really going to run this whole psychic thing into the ground, huh?" Elena asks. I give them a confused look. I completely have missed something.

"Pretty much," Bonnie says with a smile.

"I'll be right back," Elena tells us seeing Jer walk past into the washroom. She follows him.

"So, what's this psychic thing?" I ask.

"My grams says I'm a witch." She replies still staring at the guy.

"Could be cool," I tell her with a shrug.

"Wish I could have your outlook," she says with a sigh.

"I should probably go bail Jer out." I tell her.

"See you later." She tells me as I walk towards the men's room.

"Laters," I reply pushing the door open. I walk in.

"Look stop! I don't have anything on me. Are you crazy?" I hear Jer say just as I come into view.

"Like I told you this morning lay off Elena." I tell her.

"You haven't seen crazy, Jeremy! I gave you a summer pass, but I am done watching you destroy yourself. No, no, no, no, you know what? Go ahead, keep it up. But just know that I'm going to be there to ruin your buzz every time, you got it? Jeremy, I know who you are. And it's not this person. So, don't be this person." Elena keeps going ignoring me.

"I don't need this. Laters Evie." Jer tells Elena then gives me a smile as he walks out.

"Elena, you need to lay off. The more you get after him the more it will happen." I tell her.

"I gave him the summer pass, though." She says.

"Two months. That's all. It takes more then two months to get over our parents dying." I reply.

"Yeah, because you're the expert now that you're a mom." She gets defensive.

"I'm not saying I'm an expert. What I am saying is that I haven't gotten over it. Jer he's younger then us. It's only logical that it will take him longer. I know I still do the things I need to, to cope." I say. " just let him cope. He will come to us when he's ready."

"What if he's never ready?" She whispers.

"He will be ready at some point." I say.

We both leave the washroom. Elena bumps into the new guy.

"Uh, pardon me, um... is this the men's room?" He asks confused and looking a little embarrassed.

"Yes. Um, I was just, um- I was just... it's a long story." My sister stutters her way through.

She tried to step around him. He steps in front of her at the exact same time. They do this a few times then he moves out of the way. I give him a smile as I walk past. We head to history. I take my seat. Matt sits next to me.

"Once our home state of Virginia joined confederacy in 1861, it created a tremendous amount of tension within the state. People in Virginia's northwest region had different ideals than those from the traditional deep south. When Virginia divided in 1863 with the northwest region, joining the union." Tanner drones on.

I tune him out. I'm really good at history. I love the subject just not the way Tanner teaches. He should not have become a teacher. I notice Elena texting. Oh well, she's obviously not paying attention either. I hope she doesn't have me help her study again. She's hopeless in history. The rest of the day passes quickly. Before I know it the end of the day arrives.

"Hey Evelyn, can I get a ride to the cemetery? I want to visit mom and dad." Elena asks as I leave the school.

"Sure, but Tyler has shotgun." I tell her.

We get in the car. Tyler joins us shortly after. I drop Elena off at the cemetery.

"The cemetery?" Tyler questions.

"Yeah, she wants to visit our parents. She's not coping as well as she pretends." I reply.

"She plays a good part though." He points out.

"Yeah, I can't deny that." I agree.

"How are you holding up?"

"Blaise helps, but I miss them. I'm also having to break up fights between Jeremy and Elena. It makes it all hard." I admit. "You have Tanner at all today?" I change the topic not wanting to continue talking about my parents.

"Yeah, this afternoon." He replies accepting the topic change.

"Damn, I'm sorry." I apologize with a sigh. "I was hoping you got spared."

"Naw but being on the football team I get a little more give then you do." He says.

"Lucky," I reply. We arrive at his place. "You gonna crash at my place tonight?"

His dad is abusive to him. So, after his dad would abuse him, he would come over and spend the night. My mom found us in bed together once and had a talk with us. She was relieved that we weren't having sex but hated that he was being hurt. After that she allowed him to spend the night with me. As long as we promised to not have sex under her roof.

When my parents died, he spent the night most nights to support me. He also helped with Blaise. I leave him with Carol because I know she will protect him from the mayor, her husband. He also wouldn't touch Blaise, that would completely ruin his image. He has no idea that I know his dirty little secret.

We walk into Tyler's place.

"Yeah, I'll pop over later " he tells me. "Mom we're home!"

She comes to greet us holding Blaise. I take him into my arms. I'm super happy to see him. I missed him. I want to be a good mother to him and raise him the best I can. Tyler is a big help. Blaise and I both leave and head home. It's usually pretty quiet in the afternoon allowing me to feed Blaise.

We head to the grill to meet up with Bonnie and Caroline. We hang out there all the time. We arrive and sit down. Care takes Blaise into her arms. She loves being an aunt.

"So, new guy Care. You gotta know something." I say knowing my bestie.

"His name is Stefan Salvatore. He loves with his uncle up at the old Salvatore boarding house. He hasn't lived here since he was a kid. Military family, so they moved around a lot. He's a Gemini, and his favourite colour is blue." Caroline tells us.

"You got all of that in one day?" Bonnie questions shocked. I know my bestie and she is good at getting information.

"Oh, please. I got that in between third and forth period. We're planning a June wedding." She says with a please smile on her face.

"Slow your roll, Care. You might want to actually talk to him first." I say as Matt walks over. I wave at Ty. He waves back.

"How's Elena doing?" Matt asks us. I stay quiet really not wanting to get involved.

"Her mom and dad died. How do you think? She's putting on a good face, but it's only been four months," Bonnie says. Care hands Blaise back to me knowing I need to hold him.

"Has she said anything about me?" He asks. I know he is pretty destroyed over their breakup.

"Oh, no. So not getting in the middle. You pick up the phone and call her." Bonnie tells him.

"I feel weird calling her. She broke up with me." He admits.

This is one of the reasons I would never date Tyler. If we were to break up our friendship would be gone.

"Give it more time, Matt." Bonnie says.

Elena enters with new guy, Stefan. Bad timing.

"More time, huh?" Matt asks rhetorically. Elena and Stefan walk over to us. "Hey, I'm Matt, nice to meet you."

"Hi, Stefan" Stefan introduces and shakes Matt's hand.

"Hey," Elena says to him awkwardly.

"Hey," Matt greets with equal amount of awkwardness. Matt walks away and Elena and Stefan sit down.

"So, you were born in Mystic Falls?" Caroline asks confirming what she already knows.

"Mm-hmm and moved when I was still young." He confirms.

"Parents?" Bonnie asks.

"My parents passed away." He says.

"I'm sorry. Any siblings?" Elena asks.

"None that I talk to. I live with my uncle." Stefan says. I pick up on the words he uses.

"So, Stefan if you're new, then you don't know about the party tomorrow." Caroline announces.

"It's a back-to-school thing at the falls." Bonnie explains.

Are you going?" Stefan asks Elena.

"Of course, she is. So is Evie." Bonnie volunteers for me.

"I am?" I ask confused.

"Yes, you are." Care tells me.

"I guess I am." I say with a laugh. I start playing a little with Blaise.
