Pov Tanya von Degurechaff
1/01/1928
Oriental front
I sighed, watching the air condense into something like smoke. Artillery could be heard in the distance and the lack of caffeine was killing me. My frozen fingers and nose were not helping my condition either.
"The defensive line is holding," said Brigadier General Erich next to me, he had been promoted for his contribution to the eastern campaign against the communists.
"Happy New Year Field Marshal Erich" I said. It was 1928 and much had happened over the years of war we had been forced to suffer. The most important was the eastern campaign over the communist. We came close, oh so close to taking Moskova, but constant partisan attacks kept destroying supplies and causing havoc in the rear, and with the lack of experienced recruits to take the place of the dead, General Winter himself was forced to make the hard decision of a staggered retreat from the heart of the bear.
After withdrawing many times we eventually returned to the pre war border and its fortifications, yet the Federation, Albish and the Unified States refused to sign peace. It was the beginning of the end. Everyone knew it. Yet, there was one hope, and it was that defense to the death might allow for a conditional peace. I think that was a false hope, though. The Russy themselves have already had a confirmed 15 million casualties and they weren't even close to asking for peace. How many people would it take for these communist madmen to sign peace?
"Happy New Year Brigadier General Degurechaff."
It was 3 o'clock in the morning and according to the reports the Russy Federation had begun its offensive an hour ago. Not only was it to be expected that the communists would not accept a truce on New Year's Day, it was also expected that they would attack at night. However, it didn't take away the rage and disappointment in my heart.
"I fear what will become of the Empire" Erich said, I turned to look at him, his arms behind his back and his chest heaving. As if forcing himself into a confident position that would allow him to show a facade of pride and confidence
"Do you want the opinion of the propaganda department or the opinion that would get me to the military police?"
He made a heavy sigh condense in the air around his face. Erich was a good friend of mine and had helped me for a long time. Noticing his pessimism only fueled my own.
"How many years have we been at war?"
It was a good question, I don't even remember what year this war started but it doesn't matter how long it had lasted. Even if it had lasted a day it was too long.
"Too long."
Silence fell again, as we watched anti-aircraft fire light up the air with explosions and artillery fire on enemy positions.
"Brigadier General Degurechaff!" shouted a female voice, I turned to see my aide Visha running towards me, the way she was moving I knew what she was going to say. They had penetrated the front and the 203rd was requested to deploy immediately to attack the flank of the Russy offensive.
"They have penetrated the front and the 203rd is requested to deploy immediately to attack the flank of the Russy offensive."
Hmm, and wasn't that a phrase I had become acquainted with over the past few years. I bit my tongue and looked to the sky, I slowly moved my hand up to my neck where the type 95 computational orb was resting, Being X's personal curse on me.
"Viktoriya, wake up our friends in the 203rd. We have to go back to the front to save it from immediate collapse."
The again went unsaid but easily implied
She nodded and ran off, looking at Erich who simply sighed and took off his officer's cap.
"I'm going back to the tent, I have to handle the defense. I wish you luck Degurechaff"
I nodded, watching him disappear into the tent from where Polska's defense was controlled.
I laughed internally. If someone said three years ago that the most important place on the eastern front would be a poorly placed tent to prevent the aerial mages from identifying our base of operations and destroying it many would laugh, but the number of generals killed by being in clear operational bases was so great that all those idiotic enough to continue to do it were killed and everyone else wisened up quickly.
Less than five minutes passed before I finally saw my battalion, the 203rd, getting into formation before me with immaculate discipline. There was no other imperial force so experienced and bloodied in this war . Fortunately, few had died over the years but I was proud that they had managed to keep the majority of themselves alive.
"Soldiers of the 203rd, I'm not giving a speech, nor a pep talk. It's the same as we've done hundreds of times. Just remember that once again the integrity of the entire eastern front depends on our efforts."
"UNDERSTOOD!" shouted all the burly men and women who belonged to the 203rd.
I sighed in melancholy and looked at Visha who brought my military equipment, an MG-25 with mag magazines, grenades and more tools that I would need.
I took off my officer's coat, momentarily stepping into the tent and hanging it up so it wouldn't get stained by the snow. Showing underneath my combat suit. I put the magazines and grenades in their respective places and leaned the MG-25 against my shoulder.
"Victory or Valhalla" Erich said without even looking at me, having one ear in a headset and one ear in another headset. Probably trying to understand what was going on.
"Victory or Valhalla" I replied, walking out of the tent with Visha.

The 203rd moved like a pack of hungry wolves, not even keeping the air advantage. They were gliding along, almost touching the ground, destroying the enemy tanks moving so fast that they couldn't be shot at. It was a good way to avoid Russy's anti-aircraft fire. Which was so massive that it made us improvise.
"I detect a full strength enemy battalion approaching our position" Visha said, I turned to see, soon noticing their magical presence. It was the expeditionary battalion. With Mary Sioux bitch at the front.
"Go Visha, I'll take care of that scum."
Visha moved quickly towards me, placing her hand on the lower part of my face, lifting my head to look her in the eyes. She slowly brought her lips to mine, giving me a little tongue kiss. Almost laughing that the enemy was not yet in combat range.
"Kill them all" she said, licking her lips and standing with her feet facing the sky. He quickly disappeared from my sight, joining the rest of the 203rd in the hunt for the Russky tanks.
I sighed and touched my lips. Visha proposed to me a year ago and has been acting dominant with me ever since. Strange considering I am the superior.
A shot that missed me by several meters, but was clearly intended to hit me, appeared in my vision. I turned around to see the insolent foreigners who wished to kill me.
"O God. Give me strength, I will destroy these heretics in your name."
Type 95 activated and I felt the adrenaline filling my veins and infecting my head like a drug.
"Come to me heretics, for today will be your last day".
I aimed the MG-20 and started firing the bullets with thermobaric rounds. They were bullets with an explosive radius of 10 meters that exploded on detection of a target at 10 meters. I personally made the rounds for my own use and they proved to be very effective.
Very quickly the enemy positions were filled with thermobaric explosions. If you were hit by a thermobaric bullet you would die 80% of the time as I could personally verify.
The enemy battalion split into four groups, one from below, one from above and two from the flanks. They wanted to surround and suppress me. It was a basic and unsurprising tactic. But it was also effective. However, I had a weakness.
I flew upwards intercepting the mages who tried to hunt me from above. I hit the first one with my machine gun and fired my Luger at a second enemy mage. The group of 10 men quickly split up after 2 of their number were killed. Quickly moving more than 20 meters away from me...
Idiots
I fired my MG around creating a circle of thermobaric fire around me that annihilated them. Their doctrine told them to move sideways in case the formation broke up. Unlike the Imperial mages, our doctrine was to move up or down to avoid what you just did. To annihilate the entire group by turning myself around without releasing the trigger.
"If you surrender I promise to respect your rights."
Quickly a laser beam appeared before my eyes. I dodged it quickly, watching it turn night into day.
"YOU WILL DIE HERE DEMON!"
I looked with apathy at the woman who despite being a beautiful teenager this war and Being X had turned into a monster.
Truly a waste of lives and resources.
I created more than 20 illusions of myself and began to fly. The 3 remaining groups of 10 people started shooting all the copies not knowing that they would soon die.
"O heretics, cursed be your life, for you do not follow the path of the lord. You will burn in hell, for your death is near."
I fired from my position hidden in the clouds. The useless ones did not know how to differentiate my copies of me allowing me to hide in the clouds. I was now mowing down from the sky these despicable beings who were trying to take my life.
Little by little their numbers were reduced. Each impact created a ball of fire that burned them and ripped the air from their lungs, killing them instantly. However, the gun stopped firing. I forgot to count the bullets. The lack of caffeine was getting to me.
I let myself free fall, deactivating my magic. Becoming invisible to everyone and taking advantage of the several seconds to charge. This maneuver was dangerous for any novice mage. But me? I had been doing this for years.
When I finished charging, I activated my flight magic again, a meter or two above the ground at most. I quickly flew upwards again as my previous position was filled with enemy gunfire and a laser beam from a crazy woman.
Isn't it ironic? That my greatest advantage is predicting her stupid moves? How knowing their doctrines and behaviors was my greatest asset? I don't think I would have survived this long if I didn't know how my enemy was acting.
"YOU WILL DIE" Said the woman who charged me with a rifle in hand, intending to go to the body. I fired the machine gun at her but she swallowed the thermobaric bullets like freshly baked cupcakes. Damn you Being X.
Seeing that there was no other choice I pulled out my magic sword, forged with magic to be more durable and affiliated. It was part of a project of the Empire's Wunderwaffe and obviously I had to test it myself.
I activated the magic on the sword and clashed sword against bayonet, turning night back into day just by the impact of both weapons.
"BITCH, YOU WILL DIE TODAY FOR KILLING MY FATHER!" shouted the savage beast in front of me. I quickly drew my pistol from my holster while holding with one hand the sword that withstood the constant impacts of the beast's magic bayonet.
"Eat lead" I said, firing the pistol with penetration spell bullets. Quickly penetrating its heart and other important organs. Considering the biblical battles I had with her I knew this was not the end.
"I WILL NOT BE DEFEATED AGAIN. TODAY YOU DIE!"
She dropped her gun and hugged me. I quickly panicked. It couldn't be. She was going to do the same thing I was going to do in Norden. NO. THIS CAN'T BE.
"GET AWAY FROM ME INSOLENT BEAST" I shouted as I shot her at point blank range but her body wouldn't give up and I couldn't use the sword to cut off her limbs because the way she hugged me she couldn't move her arm.
I quickly felt the magic increase until it collapsed and everything went white. And time stopped.
"Yahweh has broken the heavenly rules."
I looked around me, yet I saw nothing. Only the battlefield and time paused. Yet this was not Being X.
"What are you?"
The world went black, and in the blackness there was nothing. Absolutely nothing. However that soon changed as a huge white being appeared, human shaped but without any features.
"I am in charge of administering this Universe. And the being that manipulated you so much was one of the few that was charged with administering your Galaxy. You may call me the Architect.
Another self-proclaimed supreme being. I was getting tired of this.
"I will call you Being Y.
Silence filled the space. It was a strange feeling. I didn't know if it had been seconds, minutes, hours, weeks, months, years or centuries.
"Now I understand why Yahweh hates you. He had no right to interfere so much in the mortal worlds anyway."
I looked at the gigantic being, the way he was forming his words, he looked like a boss angry with his subordinate. It was really something you got used to when you were in the army.
"And as for you, little being. I will allow you to follow the destiny that your people will follow in this life."
Wait. What do you mean, destiny?
"What do you mean the destiny that awaits my people?"
The nothingness and the figure disappeared and I noticed how I slowly lost my consciousness.
"Damn you Beings X and Y!"

10 minutes after the incident.
POV Erich von Lehrgen
I listened to the reports from all the trenches, all repeating the same inconceivable phrase.
"We repeat. The enemy has disappeared."
I came out of the tent and noticed for the first time in years the lack of artillery and anti-aircraft fire. Silence filled the land from miles away, and that scared me. There is only one thing worse than a known enemy, ignorance.
I turned around and went back into the command deck. I grabbed the comm radio.
"I want 203 on the base right now. And I want all mages on recon flights. I want full reports in less than six hours from the Baltic to the Black Sea."
The pain in my stomach was killing me, but there was no time for such trifles. Something strange had happened and I had to report to Berun immediately. Although, I first had to give a special infiltration mission to the 203rd. If the enemy had really disappeared, it meant they had retreated. Therefore we had to discover their new retreat position.
"We return to HQ but request medical assistance for Brigadier General Degurechaff."
Degurechaff? That devil had been wounded? The surprise was great. Hearing Degurechaff and wounded meant that one of her troops had been wounded and she was making a fuss because she wasn't getting immediate assistance.
But it was not so strange either. At Norden and Tiegenhoff she was wounded. Though it didn't take away the strangeness that a demon could be injured as well.
"You will have immediate medical assistance."

30 minutes after the incident
Pov Head of the astronomy section of the Royal University of Berun
University of Berun
"The stars have changed!" shouted one of my students. His shout startled me out of my chair. Dropping some books. That was impossible.
"What have I told you about making stupid jokes Karl!" I shouted as I sorted out the books that had fallen, making sure they didn't have any visible damage. The last thing I needed was for the University to force me to pay for new books.
"I'm not lying Trakendorf. Look at the telescope please. I bet a whole chocolate bar that I'm not lying."
Annoyed by the student's insistence and insolence I started walking to the telescope. What kind of demonstrable lie was it that the stars had moved? As if that could happen.
"I once said grumpily I got far enough away to see the dazzling night sky. However, where were the constellations?"
Panic began to fill my heart when I didn't recognise any constellations. Without time for the student to get up from his chair I pushed him and took the telescope to look at the stars. The moon remained the same and we seemed to be at the same distance from the sun. However, there were no planets. There was no Mars, Venus, Uranus, Jupiter or any other planet. It was just our planet as far as I could see.
I quickly got out of the telescope.
"Take pictures of the sky right now kid! We have to visit his majesty the Kaiser. This is a crisis! And the government has to know this!"
