New Orleans, The United States of America, Earth

The TARDIS, by its own volition, landed in the city-parish of New Orleans. The Doctor opened the doors and breathed in the air. "Ah, New Orleans." she said, "If Aurelian knew that his name would be malformed for a city that opposes all of his values, he would let himself be cut to pieces again."

"Come on, Doctor," Jessica said, "it's not that bad. It has culture, great food, killer festivals..."

"...Schizophrenic weather, brutal crime rates, and wealth inequality up the wazoo. Yeah, it's really that bad. But, the TARDIS picked this place, so might as well have a look."

The trio wandered around for a while until a police officer stopped Khaldun, who remained in his regular garb. "Hold it right there, terrorist." the officer said.

"Hey!" the Doctor said to the officer, "He's not a terrorist. He doesn't even know how bombs work!"

"Really? Then why does he look like Osama?"

"Who's Osama?" Khaldun asked, befuddled by the situation at hand.

"Oh, the Muslim doesn't know who Osama is."

"It's his normal clothing, officer!"

"I don't care. That man could be holding a bom-"

"Hey, don't be racist and religionist, Officer Lawrence." A tall woman with rugged blonde hair chimed in, "You've already been through sensitivity training and I can tell he isn't a terrorist." She turned to Khaldun. "Hell, judging by his expression, I'd even go so far as to say that he doesn't even know what terrorism is." She elbowed Lawrence. "Go back to the station. If you don't, I'll put you in cuffs for a hate crime." Lawrence meekly nodded and went away as the woman walked towards the trio, taking off her wide-brimmed hat. "Apologies for my colleague. He's not from here. New Hampshire. That's where he's fro-"

"I'm sorry to interrupt and I also appreciate your help, good madam, but I have been sent here to sort something out and I'm really sorry for saying this, but I'm not being stopped and wittered to by some Woodstock reject!"

"I'm no reject." The woman pulled out a police badge. "Detective Faith Moreau, NOPD. Who are you?"

"If I tell you, you'll think I'm a mad woman."

Faith chuckled. "I've dealt with my fair share of crazies during my time on the force."

"If you must know," The Doctor pulled out her psychic paper, "my name is Agent Sybil Mayer, FBI, and I've come to investi-"

"Liar. You're blinking too much and your brow is furrowed extremely. Also, if you're trying to convince me you're FBI, do not, under any circumstances, just show me a blank card and act like I'm stupid. So, who really are you?"

"You want the truth?" The Doctor put away her psychic paper. "I go by "the Doctor." I'm a Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey in the constellation of Kasterborous. These are my companions, a smarmy cashier from England on my right and renowned scholar Ibn Khaldun on my left. I am here because my sentient spaceship which looks like a police box picked this specific location at this specific point in time. Satisfied, detective?"

Faith was surprised, putting her hat back on. "Not one word of what you just said there was a lie. There should be. After all, I know who Ibn Khaldun is, and he's been dead for over 600 years."

"Good thing that my spaceship also travels through time."

Faith's face changed expressions. "Okay, you are clearly a psychopath who's a danger to society, so now you're under arrest for impersonating a federal agent." Faith put handcuffs on the Doctor and gave her a Miranda warning. The Doctor grimaced as she was being arrested. "Be safe." Faith said to both Khaldun and Jessica before taking the Doctor to her car.

Faith was driving the car when the Doctor remarked "I knew that this would happen."

"And yet you still did what you did." Faith replied, "Bad idea to hold up a blank piece of card to try and convince me you're a federal agent, which, if you recall, is why you're in cuffs."

"It's not a bit of card, it's something called psychic paper. I tell someone who I am and the paper has the person use their imagination to fill in the blanks."

"Are you implying that I have no imagination?"

"Not in the slightest, I'm just wondering how the psychic paper failed."

"Can't tell you right now. So, what's your business being here?"

"The TARDIS chose this location becau-"

"I'm sorry, TARDIS?"

"Time And Relative Dimension In Space. My spaceship."

"Ah. I thought it was something else."

"Anyways, she brought me here because I always end up in places and times of peril. Has anything bad happened recently?"

"Typical New Orleans crimes, you know. Murder, looting, fraud, all the classic crimes people like me have to fix on a regular basis. Although, there is a missing persons report we're currently investigating that is odd."

"That being?"

"Conti Street. Someone reported that one of the trainers at the boxing club was missing three days ago. The odd part is that we found the spot where he was allegedly abducted from, and an eye with a lightning bolt through it was on the ground."

"That symbol..." The Doctor thought about the symbol, then coming to a realisation. "You need to evacuate this town now!"

"Why? What importance does that still have to you?"

"That's the symbol of the Kaleds, ancestors of a brutal warrior race! If there's a chance that a Kaled managed to successfully leave Skaro and end up here, we need to find them and stop what they're doing."

Faith's car pulled up at the station. "Why?"

The Doctor looked on in horror. "It means that the man who went missing has been taken to become a Dalek."
