WINGS OF LEAF, SILK AND HIVE
A Wings of Fire fan fiction story by Porcelain American Princess
Forward
Hi everyone. I'm so sorry about the embarrassingly long break I've taken! Seriously, it is embarrassing. Anyway, just a couple of things I need to explain before I go on with the story.
First, I have now realised that Webs would be a better protagonist for the first couple of chapters of this story. However, I chose Asha instead, don't ask me why, and it would be too much of a bother to change it now, so here we are. For those of you who can't remember who Asha is, she is Clay's aunt who was mentioned to have died in the prologue of the first book.
As to how she finds the islands, it's just luck. Plus, even though she's not a SeaWing, since she is a MudWing she can hold her breath under water for an hour, so that would help her along on her journey. Also, I should say that this story is going to be basically a long chain of 'what ifs'.
Another thing I should mention is that if you haven't read the third arc of the wings of fire series, I do not recommend reading my story, because there will be spoilers ahead.
Finally, I suppose you're wondering how there can be lost continent dragons in the prophecy when it is fake. I'll try to tell you in the next chapter or two.
Now, without further ado, let's get on with it!
Disclaimer
I know all of you probably know this, as this website is called , but I'm going to say it anyway: I don't own Wings of Fire. The person who does own Wings of Fire is Tui T Sutherland.
Chapter 1: The Lost Continent
"Well, this is it then, isn't it?" Kestrel said gruffly.
It was night time, and two of the five members of the Talons of Peace, who had been charged with the care of the Dragonets of Destiny, were standing on the sands of the Bay of a Thousand Scales. Asha's talons quivered, though she tried her best to hide it. Her heart felt like a butterfly, fluttering in her chest. She had never been more excited or scared in her entire life. This was her moment! She was going to take a journey no dragon had taken in living memory. She was going to the Lost Continent!
"Do you have everything you need?" webs asked.
"Of course," Asha replied. She tapped a pouch dangling from her neck. "It's all in here."
"Food? Water?""
"Got it all."
"Well, goodbye then. Safe journey."
Kestrel bowed her head in respect. However, Webs gave her a comforting pat on her shoulder with his wing.
With that, Asha took to the sky, arcing over the waves below her. As she flew, her mind drifted to the prophecy that she was doing her best to fulfil. The prophecy said:
"For wings of leaf, search across the sea. For an egg hidden amongst the trees. For wings of silk, that cannot yet fly, look no further than the sky. Finally, guarded by stone. The hive wing egg lies different, and alone."
That was what the prophecy said. So, the Talons of Peace thought, these eggs must be on the lost continent. There were no wings of leaf, silk or hive in Pyrrhia. But how would she find them? What would these Lost Continent dragons be like? The plan was for her to find the Lost Continent, try to remain unseen, and steal the eggs. Meanwhile, the rest of the Talons of Peace would try to retrieve the other eggs of the Dragonets of Destiny.
As days passed, Asha found that Pyrrhia grew smaller and smaller until she couldn't see it at all. To her great surprise, she found islands that she could rest on before continuing her journey. Sometimes she found herself wondering if this was all in vain and if the continent even existed in the first place. But then she would remind herself of the prophecy that she had to keep holding out hope for.
One day, while she was wondering this, Asha spotted something in the distance. She blinked. Then she blinked again. No, it couldn't be. It just couldn't be. But it was. It was land, looming in the distance. Lots of land, not just an island. Asha's heart soared. She had found the lost continent. It took another six hours to get to it completely. Asha found herself flying faster and faster until wham! She had hit her head on a rock. Hard!
Asha opened her eyes. She could hear birdsong and the lapping of waves. Was she on another island? Then she remembered. She was on The Lost Continent at last! But why did her head hurt? Suddenly, a flash of memory flew through her head. Flying fast, a sudden explosion of pain. She looked around. She was on a beach, ocean waves lapping at her claws. Panic filled her! Had she been seen? However, there appeared to be no other dragons around, so she relaxed a little. Now she had to get up. Suddenly, as she stood up pain exploded in her head.
"Ow!" Asha hissed through her teeth.
Now what? She couldn't just lie here forever. Then Asha smacked herself with one of her talons. Of course, why hadn't she thought of it? If she put some mud on her head, she would feel better. She ran to a nearby pile of dirt, ignoring the pain, and scooped some up in her talons. Then she thought of something. This dirt was dry, so it wouldn't do any good. She sighed, letting it trickle from her claws. Then she spied a river in the distance. If she could get to that river, she could find some mud.
After a lot of panting, and clambering up rocks, she finally found a muddy enough bank to settle herself in. She sighed, relaxing in the mud as it oozed around her. Soon the pain left her and she was able to stand without her head throbbing. That was when she noticed something. Something that made her heart drop out of her stomach. There were no trees in sight! All she could see for miles around was grasslands. Empty savannah. There was nothing but a few shrubs in sight. This wouldn't have been a problem, except that the prophecy called for one of the eggs to be found amongst trees. Trees that, apparently, weren't there. What on earth should she do?
"Three moons, I can't go back to the others now. I can't leave without the egg! Oh help, help, help!"
Asha darted around in complete panic. Then, she spied something in the distance. A huge shape. Could it possibly be a cluster of trees?
Unfortunately not. As she moved closer, Asha was able to make out what it was. It appeared to be some kind of structure or building, except that it was completely massive. As big as a city, in fact. Asha stared up and up at it, wondering what it could be. When she spotted something even more strange. Stretching out from the top of this structure was a net of some kind. It looked like a gigantic spider's web. The only difference was, it had dragons all over it.
