We all know what happened on Bad Wolf Bay the second time around - but I still figured it would be best to have another look at it, before we go into the story, just to establish the premise of this piece.
Somewhere in Norway...
Rose glanced around the damp shores of Bad Wolf Bay, breathing cold and salty air, and glancing at the sun which struggled against the cloudy sky. There stood the new Doctor in his blue suit, chatting with her mum. She still had no clue how exactly it had come to be that there were suddenly two of them. Or why they were back at Bad Wolf Bay in the first place. It wasn't where she'd imagined the Doctor would take them - right after they'd saved the multiverse.
An awful suspicion hit her. 'Hold on. This is the parallel universe, right?' 'You're back home.'
The Doctor – the one in the grey pinstripe – was stepping out of the TARDIS. He was the real Doctor; her Doctor. There was an air of seriousness about him, as if he knew he was about to have a difficult conversation. Hands in pockets, he walked up to her, looking deep into her eyes.
'No, but I spent all that time trying to find you,' argued Rose. 'I'm not going back now.'
'But you've got to. Because we saved the multiverse, but at a cost.' He glanced up to the blue-suited Doctor behind her. 'And the cost is him. He destroyed the Daleks. He committed genocide. He's too dangerous to be left on his own.'
'You made me,' the new Doctor protested.
'Exactly. You were born in battle, full of blood and anger and revenge.' The hardness in his eyes softened as he looked back at Rose. 'Remind you of someone? That's me, when we first met. And you made me better. Now you can do the same for him.'
'But he's not you,' Rose said, tears of defiance glistening in her eyes, anger twisting her guts into a knot.
'Tell her,' the Doctor said, addressing his blue-suited clone.
'I look like him and I think like him,' he said. 'Same memories, same thoughts, same everything. Except I've only got one heart. I'm part human. Specifically, the aging part. I'll grow old and never regenerate. I've only got one life, Rose Tyler. I could spend it with you. If you want.'
