"Tell me why we are doing this, who are we even seeing?" Sam Winchester complained as his older brother pulled onto a street in Chicago with a series of nice houses. "Shouldn't we be finding dad?" "We are going to see Ellie." Ellie Scott had grown up with the Winchester brothers, her mother had been Mary's best friend. And she had been infuriated with Dean since she was old enough to realize that boys weren't cootie-ridden beings. It has driven Sam crazy because Ellie was always around and sticking her nose into things it wasn't meant to be. Sure she was a great hunter but women weren't meant to be out there with them.
"And we will find dad. She can help with that. She has contacts now."
"Little Ellie?" Sam threw out with a laugh, "I thought she wanted to be a nurse." "She is going to school for it. But she has also made friends within the FBI and the police department." The younger Winchester fought to let his jaw drop, in high school, she had been the stereotypical cheerleader, including the jock boyfriend. That when Dean found out he went ballistic, he and Ellie were in love but either one would admit to it. The Impala came to a stop in front of a townhouse that had a truck and a black mustang parked in the drive.
"Are you sure this is the right place?" Dean nodded his head, after Sam had left and she recovered from her injuries, she took the money that she had inherited from her grandparents on her mother's side and moved to Chicago. He had only found out that she was there because Bobby Singer let it slip that's where she was. This would be only the second time that he would be seeing her. Hopefully, it will go better than that visit.
The front door opened before Dean got his lock-picking kit out of his bag. "Dean and Sam Winchester. What the hell are you doing here?" Ellie Scott's voice came from the opening. "Long story babe, we need your help," Dean answered.
"It's been 3 years Dean and suddenly you need my help?" Sam looked between the two and smirked, this was going to be good if they were at each other's throats right from the start. Things were never like this. Ellie's eyes went from Dean to Sam and then the sedan across the streets
"Well come in, no need to heat the outside." Dean slipped past them and went into the living room, dropping his duffel bag and jacket onto the ground. "Hey Pix" Sam greeted, his eyes following her glance towards the sedan, "Everything okay?" "Fine." She answered looking up at him, 'You okay?"
When he didn't answer, Ellie tilted her head to the side, and squinted her eyes to study him better, she was one of the few people that really knew Sam but she couldn't figure out what was wrong. "Dean?" She called back into the house before she stepped away from the door. Sam glanced at the sedan and then followed Ellie into the house shutting the door behind him.
"What's wrong with Sammy?" "The list is too long sweetheart." Dean returned lightly hoping it would get her to ease up on her anger. It didn't, instead, it caused her to huff and fold her arms under her chest.
"Jessica," Ellie looked between the two confused. "I have been out of the loop for a while who is Jessica?" "My girlfriend." Her hazel eyes grew almost comically wide, Ellie had been the one who spent all the time with Sam in high school, she knew that he didn't have a lot of girlfriends and if he did the relationships didn't last very long. "She died like how our mom died."
"Like on?" She pointed her finger to the ceiling.
"Yeah.' Sam's answer came and she twisted to look at him, she was very familiar with how Mary died. Her own mother had been killed weeks later by a demon.
"Jesus, Sammy, I am so sorry." Then she did something that she hadn't done since they were juniors in high school, and she hugged him. Sam stood frozen for a second before he hugged her back realizing that this is what he needed.
"If Jessica died then why are you two here?" She asked pulling away from him to look at both the brothers.
"We need your help finding our dad."
Ellie scoffed before she retreated back to the armchair away from both of them.
"You do realize your dad hates me right?"
"We wouldn't have come if we really didn't need your help."
She leaned back in her chair and raised her eyes to the ceiling, this was going to be against her better judgment but it was Dean and Sam and they had been there for her when she needed it and now it was her turn.
"Alright, when was the last time you heard from him?"
