Chapter 1

A soul floated through the Between, the place where all souls visit once their fleshy vessels expire. With no flesh the souls had no feeling. No sight. No sound. No smell. No touch. All they can do is float while thinking about their lives and waiting for what comes next. Souls constantly appeared and disappeared from the Between.

A soul that had been floating within the Between for an unknown amount of time had its musing interrupted by the sudden appearance of a screen filled with writing. The soul was dreadfully confused for a while. It hadn't seen anything since its death and couldn't help wondering how it was seeing something without eyes. After a moment it realized the 'why' didn't matter at all and read the message.

[Greetings!

The time for your reincarnation has come. Your karma has been weighed and your reward has been decided. Your karmic value is evaluated as above average. Your reward is reincarnation into a random reality you are familiar with and liked. Due to the structural reality of the chosen dimension your rewards have been altered.

Your new reality has been chosen. You know the reality as 'My Hero Academia.'

Due to the genetic nature of Quirks you may choose a family to be born into to grant yourself the highest chances of gaining a strong Quirk that you desire. Once your family is chosen your choice will be taken into account as your Quirk is generated and upgraded. Lastly, you will be protected from dangers until you regain control of your life.

Alternately, you may choose a random family. If this option is chosen your Quirk will be completely random but enhanced even further to grant it additional power, flexibility, or other features. You will still be granted protection until you regain control of your life.

You will be inserted a few hours before 'canon' begins. Please make your choice.]

It took some time for the soul to process what it read. Questions flooded through its mind before it settled on one, "Why am I being reincarnated? Isn't this something that's supposed to happen in fanfictions and to either random or really good people?"

[Incorrect.

Every soul is reincarnated into its own universe after the death of their fleshly body. The concept of an infinite universe is something that fleshly minds truly fail to comprehend.

Anything and everything is possible.]

"But... My Hero Academia is just some anime! It's not real!"

[Incorrect.

There are many ways that 'fictional' worlds are introduced to alternate realities. In your reality they existed simply because the soul reincarnated into that reality expected them to exist. Many fictions are introduced into realities by people who lived them and write stories based on what they know or experienced in their last life. Over time additional souls are introduced to these stories and they spread into various realities.]

"Are... are you saying my whole reality was just some reincarnator's new reality?"

[Correct.

New realities are created, curated, and prepared for the insertion of a reincarnated soul. This process produces new souls which will live, die, and reincarnate to produce more new souls.

What you do within the reality you enter is of no concern. How long you live your next life will depend on what choices you make.]

It took a while for a the soul to process the reality shattering information it had just been given. If it knew how often other souls found themselves in the exact same position it would shatter the pour beings mind. Even at that exact moment other souls were experiencing the same feelings.

Once it recovered, the soul asked, "So my choices are to pick a family I know, such as the Midoriya's, or a random family?"

[Correct.]

"Could I pick the Shigaraki family?"

[Yes.]

The soul seriously considered that for a while. Being in All For One's family would offer him a lot of protection and potential power. On the downside, All for One was batshit insane and even if he didn't steal whatever Quirk the soul gained, there wouldn't be anything to stop the guy from turning him into a Nomu the day his protection ended. Still, the idea of potentially getting a copy of the All For One Quirk was extremely temping.

There were other kinds of power to consider as well. His Quirk was going to be random but seemed like it would have higher odds of being something familiar or related to whatever family he picked. So, the Todoroki family probably meant either an Ice or Fire Quirk with low odds of it being like Shoto's Quirk and combining both. Also, he'd likely kill Endevour the moment he got control of his body if he was even half as bad of a child abuser as he seemed in the show.

No, another family that was filthy rich and produced a child with truly unlimited potential was on his mind.

"If I choose the Yaoyorozu Family, would I be Momo's older or younger brother?"

[The difference in age would be a matter of hours. Whether you would be older or younger is random.]

"If I chose the Yaoyorozu family I would be Momo's twin brother?"

[Correct.]

"If I understand right, that means the odds of me not only getting the Creation Quirk would be better, but if I did get it, it would be further strengthened?"

[Correct.]

"I choose the Yaoyorozu family."

[Choice made and accepted.

Calculating Quirk.

Quirk designated.

Quirk Name: Biological Manipulation (Self Major, Others Minor) A.K.A. Biokinesis

Quirk Description: The ability to manipulate life and living organisms. Additional information will be provided after reincarnation.

Reincarnation commencing.]

With a jolt, Yaoyorozu Kenichi awoke. He quickly looked around the massive bedroom that was all his and located in the massive complex that made up the Yoyorozu Family Mansion. He didn't feel disoriented or confused about where he was or what was happening. His alarm had sounded and he would be heading to school in a short while. The newly combined memories that now made up Kenichi's mind was slightly surprised to realize that he was still in his last year of middle school.

It took him a moment to realize that, technically, the canon story for My Hero Academia began something like ten months before the entrance exam for U.A. High School. That meant that today should be the day that Midoriya Izuku meets All Might and becomes All Might's chosen successor. Kenichi briefly considered robbing Izuku of the power of One for All but quickly realized that it would be quite impossible. There was no way he would be able to skip school. If he did then the look his adorable little sister would give him would deal critical amounts of mental damage.

Besides, he knew more about his Quirk now and felt no need to take the piddling power of One For All. That's right, his understanding of his Quirk let him know that he could, with a bit of effort, easily make himself just as strong, if not stronger, than Izuku would become and give himself far more abilities and have the flexibility to help in any situation. He had complete and utter control of every single atom of his body! He could do whatever he wanted to his genetic code, give himself any trait he desired. Hell, he could even copy traits from animals and people with just a small sample of their genetic material!

The unbreakable Abalone based skin of Luke Cage? Easy.

Copy all the physical powers and abilities of the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man, including genetic web shooters? Yup.

Rapid healing? Yup. Regrowing lost limbs? Easy. Biological Immortality? He'd only ever be as old as he wanted to be! Biomimetics was now his favorite scientific field! Any and all excellent evolutionary traits were his for the taking!

It wasn't all roses though. First and foremost, his abilities had heavy energy requirements. Luckily, he had the same ability to eat huge amounts of food and store the excess energy in his fat cells. He could also reabsorb any temporary modifications and gain back most of the energy spent. For example, going all Prototype and turning his arms into massive fleshy swords and then reverting them back to normal. He'd lose some energy in the process but not nearly as much as Momo would lose making an item.

Second, some changes effing hurt. If he had time ahead he could deaden his nerves but if he needed to make a change on the fly with only an instant to react, it was going to effing hurt. Ripping apart and rearranging cells was not a gentle process.

Still, despite all of that his Quirk was awesome! Hell, he could even effect other people with it. Though what he could do to them was limited. The biggest thing he could do is healing people. By spending his own energy reserves he could generate cells that perfectly matched the person he was healing and replace lost and or damage cells. He didn't so much heal them as make replacement parts and install them. That being the case, he could even replace missing limbs.

Additionally, he could induce genetic changes into someone. However, the changes would take a long time to propagate properly. Then the patient might have to wait even longer for signs of change. For example, he could totally change Ashido Mina's skin and hair color on a genetic level. The changes to her genetics would take weeks to months to propagate and then she would have to wait for her skin to naturally shed and for her hair to grow out to even see the changes. Still, he could cure genetic diseases that way and that was priceless. Cancer? Pfft, cured! He was going to become a ridiculously popular hero. He'd just have to be careful. People could be fickle and could turn on him if they felt he wasn't healing fast enough or something. He'd need to keep that bit under wraps for the time being. He'd just have to find a way to make a little genetic beastie that could cure cancer for him.

He was brought out of his thoughts by a knock on the door followed by a wizened male voice, "Kenichi-Sama, are you dressed?"

Kenichi grimaced and leaped out of his bed and made his way over to where his school uniform was already laid out for him, "I'll be out in just a moment!"

"As you say sir, the rest of the family awaits you in the dining room."

Kenichi heard the soft footsteps of the head butler walking away while he scrambled to get dressed. That was something he loved about his family. With few exceptions, they tried to eat at least breakfast together every morning. Kenichi hadn't realized just how much work went into maintaining wealth in his last life. If anything, rich people had to work even harder to simply maintain what they had. His parents worked their asses off but always made time for their children. They were good parents.

When he arrived in the dining room he politely greeted his parents before laying eyes on his sister. Part of him knew her his entire life and loved her to bits. She was his best friend and closest confidant. They had no secrets from each other and remained close even as teenagers due to their social standing. Despite going to a school for those of a higher social standing, they still stood above most. Only certain political families could say they stood higher on the social totem pole. That made it exceptionally hard for either of them to find true friends. In their strata it was less friends and more quid pro quo. They both had their sights set on U.A. where they could both become normal students and make normal friends.

As everyone was finishing the last bits of their breakfast, Kenichi spoke up, "Mother, Father, I believe that I've discovered more about my Quirk and that we may have been mistaken in the full scope of its abilities."

That drew not only the attention of his parents but Momo as well. Up to this point the entire family, himself included, had believed that his Quirk was simply the ability to Shapeshift. Shapeshifting was definitely an integral part of Biological Manipulation but simple surface level changes were a very small aspect.

Momo looked extremely excited that her older, by two hours, brother might be more powerful than the family thought. While he hadn't been mistreated, not even looked down on at all or anything negative, there had always been a silent comparison between their respective Quirks. Her Quirk, Creation, let her make anything but living things. She could make a dead mouse but not a living one. Not that she would ever make a dead mouse, so gross. Her Quirk made her infinitely adaptable and, as Kenichi had pointed out once, infinitely powerful. She could pig out on all the fatty food she wanted and convert it all into nuclear warheads, if she wanted. Not that she ever would. Still, the point stood. She was literally a walking nuclear deterrent and they believed that all he could do was change his appearance into whatever he desired. That was a pretty devastating gap in ability.

Their father looked at Kenichi and nodded slowly, "Is that so?"

There wasn't any signs of doubt or disbelief, children discovered new aspects of their Quirks all the time as they grew older. Judgement would be held until proof was offered up. With that being the case, Kenichi climbed to his feet and gestured to one of the three exits from the room, "If you would all follow me to the gym? Once there I can demonstrate."

The whole family followed him into the home gym. Everyone in the family used it, though Momo and himself got the most use of it. They both wished to become heroes so training their bodies was a must. Momo had created almost all of the gym equipment using her Quirk as practice. Though they had bought the same items that had been created. His parents were big believers in supporting the economy. They never once abused Momo's Quirk for any kind of personal or financial gain. Anything she used her Quirk to make that was available on the open market, they would buy and then donate to an appropriate cause. The gym had gone to a school with financial issues to kit out their gym class.

Once they were in the gym, Kenichi quickly stripped off the top half of his school uniform. He didn't want to get it sweaty with what he was about to do. The moment he removed his clothing he received a semi-disappointed look from his father when he revealed a torso completely composed of sculpted muscle. Kenichi kept in shape but the body he was sporting now was something that would require full time dedication to a gym to achieve and maintain. His body was perfectly sculpted and would have made Adonis himself jealous.

"Son, I thought we'd talked about the vain body modifications."

Kenichi instantly blushed as the memory popped into his mind. When puberty first hit and girls went from 'gross cooties' to 'interesting' he'd had a period where he'd modified his looks heavily with his Quirk. He'd made himself look as handsome as he could and made it look as if he had a well built body. Any shapeshifter would have done the same! However, his previous changes had been superficial only. He could look ripped but his muscles wouldn't become any stronger. That had changed. He'd spent all of his time during breakfast sculpting his body. He couldn't make big modifications without some genetic samples to work with but he could tune his own muscles to be as strong as humanly possible, make his bones denser to support his new strength, and reinforce everything else he could think of to make himself as strong as physically possible.

He looked at his father and put on his serious face, "It's not like that, Father. Just give me a moment and I will show that the changes I undergo are no longer just skin deep."

His father nodded while his mother and sister looked interested. Kenichi quickly loaded up the bench press until the total weight was fifty kilograms, one hundred and ten pounds. Fifty wasn't his maximum but it was his most used weight to keep in shape. He preferred lower weight and higher reps when working out. With everything set he quickly lay himself down and started to pump the weight up and down with clear ease, "Fifty kilos isn't too heavy for me, but it was previously still a fair bit of weight to be hefting up and down."

He did just a few reps before he grabbed more weight and added it until he doubled the total to one hundred kilograms. Again he started to bench press the weight with ease. He doubled the weight again and began the workout once more. There were signs of more effort being needed but it was clear that even two hundred kilograms, nearly four hundred and fifty pounds, wasn't the limit of his strength. Everyone watching him lift the rather heavy weights looked suitably impressed and interested.

With his demonstration done, he racked the weights and looked at his Father, "I've never been able to change how strong I am, until now. Yesterday it would have been impossible for me to even lift the weight I just bench pressed. Now it's kind of easy." He grabbed a towel to wipe off the little bit of sweat on his torso while he continued, "I think my Quirk actually allows me to modify my body in more than simply looks. I'm not sure how far it goes and we'll need to spend time experimenting on it, but I think I can do a lot more than we ever imagined was possible with it. I hesitate to say this but... I think it might be just as versatile as Momo's, just in a different way."

Kenichi only had a moment to brace himself for a flying Momo. She'd charged across the room and jumped into his arms to hug him in her excitement. This was a side of Momo only the family every got to see. Out in the world they were the Yaoyorozu Twins, heirs to the empire, and had to act as such around the snobs they went to school with. But here and now? Momo was just a fourteen-year-old girl that was super excited about her brothers Quirk being stronger than they imagined.

They were interrupted by their father clearing his throat, "I can see we will need to review your Quirk, son. We'll do so this weekend and see if we can't figure out more details."

Kenichi gave his father a smile but on the inside he was reeling. When he'd hugged Momo and she'd touched his neck with her bare hand something had happened. For the first time ever he'd instantly and completely understood her genetic makeup! That alone was amazing but it went further, he now completely understood what genetic code made up her Quirk and knew that he could easily give it to himself if he desired!

He could barely contain his excitement at that discovery. Yeah, he was definitely right earlier. Forget the piddling power of One for All. He had an even more impressive version of All For One without the drawback of completely stealing the Quirk! Hell, if he understood right, he could even dissect Momo's Quirk and just take the parts of it that he wanted to keep! Oh yes, he was very much looking forward to spending the next ten months improving himself in every way he conceivably could!

And there we have it, the beginning to MHA: Biokinetic.

This idea came to me as I was working and thinking about the show. Given my work on Fabricator, it should come as no surprise that Momo is actually my favorite character in the show because of her Quirk. The sheer potential and ability of her Quirk is mind boggling and it is SO underutilized. I mean when we first meet her she's making things like a goddamn cannon to fire the shoftball in the quirk assessment. Or there's the solar powered electric scooter she made. That is one super complex piece of engineering!

Then the original author drops the ball with her and she's just making lame shit like bo staves and kite shields during the sports festival?! The hell man! She could have totally made a hang glider with powered ducted fans for lift during the obsticle race! There's no way it would have been more complex than the scooter, just different. So, yeah, always loved her Quirk.

So, as I was thinking about it I kind of pegged Momo as the ultimate technological hero and wondered what the ultimate Biological hero would be, kind of her opposite you know? And that's where the idea for her twin brother Kenichi came from. They form two sides of the same coin. Biological Manipulation (Biokinesis) is an ungodly powerful ability so I did impose some limits on it. Without them he would basically be a God in MHA. With no limits he could just look at someone and render them Quirkless, or give them another Quirk of his design, and so on. It would be pretty anticlimactic. So, instead, he can modify himself to a massive degree at a near instant rate but he requires samples of genetic code to copy and augment his own with. So he can't make himself Spiderman without touching a spider. Then I REALLY limited his ability to effect other people, as explained in the chapter. He can still do it, just not in a way that is completely and utterly broken.

I think I'll leave it here. If you want to read more I've got up to chapter 5 on my pat-reon slash thomasdarkrose.

Please leave a review and let me know what you think! The more feedback I get, the more inspired I am to write!
