It didn't take long for Link to find trouble, he had just started foraging for materials that he could turn into makeshift clothes, when his new bunny ears twitched at the sound of screams and shouts. His feet kicked off the ground and he moved like a bolt of lightning, effortlessly navigating through trees and bushes, his new body had an abundance of speed and agility that made it easy.
He exploded out of the forest and onto a wide dirt path, the first thing he saw was a dead horse hooked to a wagon, the second thing was the figures holding bloody weapons, and the third thing he saw was a family of corpses resting on the ground, a father, a mother, and a child.
He failed.
Three more corpses were added to the pile that haunted his sleep.
"Looky here, boys! Seems we caught feral Faunus!" A human holding a bloody axe said.
Humans, these were humans, not beasts, not monsters, and not even savage creatures, humans had slaughtered a family.
"I say we have enough back home, let's kill this one and hurry up." A human holding a bloody spear said.
Humans had killed a child, not a mage, not a knight, and not a ninja, but a child.
"Hold on, I say that our stock has some deadweight, this one seems strong." A human holding a bloody sword said.
"Oh! I know! I've always wanted to watch a death match, we could do that." A human holding a bloody sword, as well, said with excitement.
"I'm the leader here!" The spear wielder said. "Enough talk, we're goi-"
Link lost his composure, what they had said, what they had talked about over the corpses of a family, he couldn't handle it. A small part of him was informing him he didn't have a weapon, and that he wasn't trained in barehanded battle, he didn't care.
"-nnngggk-"
Link had left craters in his wake as he rushed at his opponent, before he could even think about where and how to attack, his claws ripped through flesh and tore open a throat. The shock of his own actions brought his desperate rush to a halt.
His bare feet skidded along the path, and as he looked down at the bloody claws protruding from his fingers, a violent gust of wind rushed up behind him. For a second he thought someone had shot a wind spell at him, in the next second he felt the wind tickle his animals ears, then he realized that he no longer had bunny ears, they had been replaced by wolf ears.
A bloody body missing a chunk of its neck fell limply.
"Oh fuck!" The axe weirder exclaimed as he held his weapon at the ready and swung his head to where Link was. "He haaa-"
The reminder that these humans exist sent a rush of fury through his bones, and then he noticed how slow his opponent was moving.
"-aasss-" His speech was slurred, the word he had been saying was being stretched out.
As Link wondered about this phenomenon, he felt his left hand tingle, and he found an answer. The normal abilities of the Wolf Ears were enhanced senses and retractable claws and the special ability was called Rush, it temporarily gave him explosive speed and strength, it also made it seem like the world was moving slowly to him.
Satisfied with this knowledge, Link kicked off again in another Rush, and again his claws were aimed at a throat, however this time he didn't even pierce skin, a transparent brown barrier he halted his claws. Before his Rush ended, he streamlined his other hand and shot his claws forth.
He stumbled out of his Rush, the magic barrier had taken most of the force of his rush but not all of the momentum.
The axeman gurgled blood from the gaping holes in his neck, limp hands dropped his weapon and he desperately held the wounds gushing blood. He fell to his knees before collapsing, his body spasmed twice before going still.
The single swordsman dropped his blade and began running away, Link almost Rushed him down but something stopped him. When he had learned of Rush, he knew that it took a lot of Mana which was something he didn't have a lot of at the moment, the current amount of times he could activate the ability was three times before ran out.
And when he learned that, he knew he would have to use a different method to win this fight in the end. Why? Three uses for three enemies meant he could win if he used them all, so why did he think he needed a different method? He used his enhanced senses to scan his surroundings. He almost didn't pick up anything, but then he heard the crunch of dirt beneath feet and of steel singing through the air right behind him.
Link ducked and violently twisted his waist and upper body, his left arm was extended outward and he mustered all the force from his twist into his swinging claws. Sharp winds grazed the tips of his wolf ears and his claws met empty air, it was to be expected since there hadn't been someone behind him, and then empty air bled.
The second swordsman was revealed as a fog faded from Link's mind, the man coughed up blood and stared at the hand that was currently wrist deep into his torso. Unintelligible babbles and groans escaped his mouth, eyes that had shown no remorse for his own slaughter, that gleamed with excitement at idea of a death match, were now filled with despair at his own death.
Link felt his own fury wane, death wasn't something he enjoyed, but then he reminded himself of his failure. He freed himself from the soon to be corpse and gazed at the dead bodies of a family. If what he remembered was true, then this world was abandoned by its Gods, he hoped that at least a Spirit was in place to watch over the souls of the departed.
Link looked through the wagon, he found loose bags of clothes, wooden crates of food, alongside a small chest filled with jewelry and knickknacks. He dressed himself in a set of clothes that he would usually wear, gathered some food into a bag, and then he buried the family with the small chest.
Then he went about looting his own victims, he didn't pick up their bloody weapons -mostly for his own peace of mind- but he did fasten the small bits of armor they were wearing to his body. And oddly enough he couldn't find any currency on them, they didn't have any gems or even archaic coins. All he found was a handful of playing cards, for a game he didn't recognize.
With everything settled here, Link focused his enhanced sense of smell to pick up the scent of the swordsman who fled. Although he didn't have the full context as to what they had been talking about, it didn't sit well with him, that was why he had let that man go with chase, so he could track him down to his home. Where their stock had some deadweight.
Hello, I'm just checking to see if anyone wants to read this story. Currently I'm sorting through to figure out just what stories I should focus on and then I'll ignore the rest for a long time until those stories are over. If you like a fic and want to read more then please leave a review.
This story is about the adventures of Samus and Link as they interact with Remnant. As they get used to the world they cause waves in their wake, and the threat of the antagonist grows larger each day as they shake the foundation of this world.
