This took longer to finish than intended. Sorry TvT, but good news; I've finished writing all of this book's chapters and will be uploading them after this one.
Cole's POV
The others had returned from the mission, when I got ready to look for Jay.
"Is everything okay, Cole?" Nya asked.
"I hope so," I answered to her before leaving the monastery.
I have a feeling on where he is, and I don't want to waste any more time.
When I reached the forest, I let my intuition guide me. They're usually right.
I need to find Jay before someone else does, who knows what they'll do to him.
After walking around some more, I heard the sounds of leaves rustling. I slowed my pace and carefully approach the source of the sound.
I soon saw a large brown wolf with golden eyes prowling around the shadows.
"C'mon, Jay. It's me, Cole," I whispered to him.
The wolf growled, baring its teeth, but I know Jay is in there somewhere. He didn't pounce at me when I stepped closer.
"Hey, buddy," I reached out a hand to pet his fur. "I promise, I won't tell anyone."
Jay remains tensed, but still didn't attack me. Instead, he sniffed my hand, his golden eyes looking for recognition. I held my breath for what's to come, while hoping Jay would recognize me.
Finally, Jay locked his eyes onto mine, glimmer of recognition shining in them. He let out a low whine and I reached out to pet him.
"It's okay, Jay," I whispered soothingly. "I'm here for you. I won't hurt you."
I stroke his fur even more and he started wagging his tail. "Ya like this, don't you, bud?" I smiled.
He let out a soft growl and I grasped the fur at the back of their neck, then started scruffing him. Gosh, he's so FLUFFY.
As I continued with the affectionate petting, his tail started wagging faster, even closing his eyes.
But it didn't last long when he snapped his eyes open and push me away as gentle as he could.
Great. The wolf side took over again.
Chapters 3 & 4 will be uploaded now.
