I enjoyed writing this tbh. Hope you enjoy reading it.
Jay's POV
Jay fought tooth and nail against the relentless onslaught of feral instincts consuming his mind.
The beast within him roared, its claws tearing through his thoughts, demanding freedom. The scent of fresh prey, of vulnerable flesh, wafted enticingly to his heightened senses. But he couldn't succumb. He couldn't let his inner monster overpower his humanity. Cole had become both a threat and a potential meal in his frenzied state, and that terrified him.
Calm down, Jay. Focus. Cole is your friend. Best friend. He's not the enemy nor food.
The mantra echoed in his mind as he desperately clung to his sanity. The sound of Cole's voice, once soothing, now pierced through the chaos, a reminder of the fragile bond they shared. His touch, though triggering an insatiable hunger, provided an anchor, a lifeline to his fading humanity.
Deep breaths, slow and deliberate, filled his lungs, trying to suppress the primal growls that threatened to escape his throat.
No! Can't hurt Cole. Can't hurt… friend.
Jay's thoughts flickered, a battle waged between his human self and the relentless beast clawing at the gates of his consciousness. His struggle felt eternal.
The transition from coherent thoughts to fragmented words began as the wolf's dominance surged, seeping into his mind.
Hungry… prey… meat… Feast…
The fragmented whispers of the feral werewolf invaded Jay's thoughts, taunting him, reminding him of his primitive desires. But he fought on, clinging desperately to his human consciousness.
You're stronger than this, Jay. You won't succumb. You won't hurt Cole.
His inner voice fought against the cacophony of the wolf's fragmented hunger, a beacon of reason guiding him through the tempest.
Time crawled, the struggle wearing him down to the very core of his being. Gradually, Jay felt the tide shifting. The golden gleam in his eyes waned, the beast's grip relenting. Muscles, once firm by with ferocity, relaxed, relinquishing their hold over his body.
Exhaustion washed over him, a welcome respite from the internal battle. His body slumped to the ground, the transformation complete.
Human again, but weakened and drained. Gratitude flooded his thoughts, mingled with lingering unease.
"Jay?" Cole's voice, soft and concerned, broke through the haze. He turned, meeting Cole's gaze, his mind still recovering from the ordeal. "Are you okay?"
The words struggled to form, his voice weak. "Yeah… I think… thank you, Cole. You saved me."
"That's what friends are for, Jay."
Cole's smile radiated warmth, yet Jay couldn't entirely quell the remnants of his feral instincts. The wolf's whispers lingered, though subdued. The struggle wasn't over, not by a long shot. But Jay knew that with Cole's unwavering support, he had a fighting chance to conquer the wildness within him.
Can't believe I'm actually gonna say this, but this concludes "The Wolf Within". Hope you enjoyed
