"It's been twenty minutes, Chi. Can we go?" Maki groans.
Knocking on Iori's door for ten minutes straight didn't work, and calling his phone repeatedly wasn't working, either. It was two in the afternoon, and he was likely still asleep.
"Um… I know the code," she mutters, glancing at the number pad. Maki's eyebrows shoot up.
"Well why didn't you say so?! Hurry up and open the door. Who knows when he'll wake up."
"I don't want to break in! It's for emergencies only, and this isn't an emergency."
"Chizuru. Give me the code." Maki stands up straight. She's only two inches taller than Chizuru, but somehow manages to intimidate her sister.
"...no."
"Chizuru." Maki glares at her. "It's on your phone, isn't it? Tell me the code."
"No! We are not breaking into Iori's apartment!"
Maki gently sets the cups of coffee in her hands down, and then holds her hand out for Chizuru's cup. After setting it down, she rolls up her sleeves. And then lunges at Chizuru.
"Give it! I'm freezing my ass off out here!" Maki grabs Chizuru's arm, using her other hand to try and reach for her pocket.
"Get off of me! Stop it, we're in public!" Chizuru's free hand reaches for Maki's wrist, keeping her away from her phone.
The door opens. A very tired and confused Iori Yagami wrapped in a blanket stares at them. His cat trots up to the doorway.
"Ooh, kitty!" Maki cries, and immediately lets go of Chizuru. She starts cooing at Zarathustra, as though she hadn't been terrorizing her sister moments before.
"What time is it?" Iori asks.
"A little past two," Chizuru answers.
"I forgot to wake up."
"Yeah," she sighs, "I know. We brought you coffee." Iori perks up a bit.
Maki has already made it past the door, carrying Zarathustra in her arms. Iori stares at her, blinking a few times and frowning. He turns to Chizuru and does the same, his frown deepening.
Chizuru pinches the bridge of her nose. "I'm Chizuru. That's Maki. She's taller than me, remember?" How had Iori gone this long without being able to tell them apart? He'd known the twins for most of his life, after all.
"More insane, too," Iori mumbles, closing the door behind Chizuru. She giggles. He's not wrong.
Chizuru follows Iori in and sits down in the living room. Iori takes the sofa, setting his coffee on the table. Maki is already on the floor, playing with Zarathustra.
Iori finishes his coffee in a few gulps, despite the beverage still being fairly hot. Chizuru gives him a concerned look, barely even a few sips into her own drink. She clears her throat after a few moments, trying to get Iori's attention.
"How've you been? Did your band finish recording the new album?"
"We finished a few days ago, just putting the final touches on it. Already got a gig coming up to promote it," Iori replies.
"That's good," Chizuru smiles. "So hopefully you'll get your sleep schedule back on track, right? Since you don't have to stress over band stuff."
Iori shakes his head. "I'm pretty sure I have insomnia." Chizuru sighs.
"I know," she mumbles, "but the amount of caffeine you consume isn't helping."
Maki scoffs. "Did we come here to lecture him? 'Cause I've got plenty to say about that hairstyle–"
"Maki," Iori growls.
"Honestly, I thought you'd be out of your emo phase by now–"
"I'm not emo! And it's not a phase, I like my hair–"
They're interrupted by Zarathustra meowing loudly, as though he's telling them to shut up. Chizuru is grateful, because it means she doesn't have to do it.
"I need to feed him," Iori says, and goes to the kitchen. Zarathustra follows.
Chizuru glares at Maki, who looks at her like she's done nothing wrong.
"Remember why we're here," Chizuru whispers. Maki rolls her eyes and nods.
Iori returns without Zarathustra, who's presumably eating. He looks between the twins again, eyes narrowing. "Why are you here?"
"Can't we just hang out with you because we want to? I haven't seen you in months," Maki says, pouting slightly.
"I expect that from her," Iori gestures to Chizuru, "but you? I don't trust you."
"So mean!" Maki cries. Iori rolls his eyes.
He (awkwardly) inquires about Chizuru's work, and then Maki's. The three of them make small talk for a while, until Maki gets bored and asks if Iori has anything to do.
"You don't play video games anymore?" She asks, fiddling with her hair. Iori shakes his head.
"Kyo does. He wants to take me to an arcade at some point." Iori pulls a face at that.
And then he realizes his mistake.
"Kyo? You mean the barista at Daimon's Coffee?" Chizuru leans forward, a devious smile on her face. "So you two ended up going on a date, huh?"
Iori gulps. He could kick them out. But Maki would likely tackle him, and he really doesn't want that to happen. He nods silently.
"Well? Are you going to tell us about it or not?" Maki asks, the same devious smirk on her face. Iori sighs. There's no way out of this one.
Frankly, the details of his date aren't all that interesting. Chizuru laughs when he mentions the cat incident, but Maki seems unimpressed.
"A kiss on the cheek? That's it?"
"Fuck off! It's none of your business," Iori snaps. She huffs.
Chizuru taps her chin thoughtfully. "Is he nice to you?"
Iori gives her a confused look. "Yes?"
"Okay. Maki, let's go. I'm hungry."
"Finally!" Maki cries, and hops up. Iori stares at both of them in confusion.
"Is… that all you came here for?"
"Yup," the twins nod, already at the door.
"Bye, Iori. If you haven't done something about that atrocious hairstyle the next time I see you, I'll take care of it for you," Maki giggles. Chizuru (poorly) stifles her laughter with a cough and nudges Maki with her elbow.
"Get out!" Iori yells, standing up indignantly. The twins leave, giggling all the while, and Iori slumps back down onto the couch.
Maybe he needs new friends.
