I had taken a while to calm down, but thankfully after yesterday it was mostly kids coming for food and only 1 person brought in who was caught committing a crime. With everyone on the police force in front of me I sighed.
"Ok, I had a long day today..." Uma raised her hand.
"Har… King Harry, after our talk this morning I would like to address everyone." I nodded and gestured for her to come up front. She looked to everyone in her crew.
"Ok, the king and I have come to an understanding. Starting tomorrow only half of you will be on duty, the other half will be on during the night. We need people to obey us all day, and night. Cassie every day I want you in Jafar's place looking for a typewriter. We need as many as possible." The mentioned girl nodded.
"I heard his plan and think it will work for the isle. Not to mention I don't want to go into the tank." Everyone collectively looked to it and shivered.
"We all know about the kids who look like shit. Talk to them from now on, we need to address the problem adults now that we have a place to have them removed. Now come up, you know what to say in the square. I will see you all in the morning, we have more to talk about." Everyone nodded before one by one the force spoke, gave over their badges, and left the castle. When she was the last one here she turned to me and entered the square.
"Unless you betray my trust, I will treat you like a king." I smiled and nodded, glad the gamble paid off. I stood from the throne and went to the main floor before I magicked three chairs into a triangle.
"Jason, come on over, the three of us need to talk." He came over with a nod as Uma frowned as she sat. I sighed.
"Jason told me you cant sleep at home anymore?" She nodded with a sigh.
"She told me I had..."
"Stop, I don't care what she said, you made your decision this morning. There are plenty of rooms here. Pick one that isn't Mal's, Jason's, Connor's or mine and mark the door. Do you plan to take control of the police force with schedules and such?" She nodded.
"Yes, that was my plan." I nodded and handed her a notebook.
"Easier when you write stuff down." I turned to Jason.
"How much money do we still have in the coffers?" He opened his notebook.
"$123,927." I nodded as Uma's eyes went wide.
"Wow, that is..." I stopped her.
"A loan from my brother to help jump start the economy. I need to figure everything out then find a way to tax people without their yelling so I can repair the isle and pay the crown back." She nodded.
"Right." I sighed.
"Are there any other Gangs like yours that I don't have to worry about abusing the authority?" She sighed.
"Mal's isn't here anymore. The goblins have the coffee shop so wont want to work for you." I rubbed my face.
"Jason, do you think I could ask you and Connor for even more? I don't know if I can get all this inside of a month." He smiled.
"We already see what your trying, I will stay. My girl has expressed an interest in moving, perhaps a plot of land? Then your coffers won't be hit as hard." I blinked.
"Maybe, first I need to get this place working." He nodded, but remained smiling. I took a breath.
"Tomorrow I need to check on the farm, and find where we will run the wires for the power and phones." He nodded.
"The sewers run under the whole isle and open into your basement. Why not use those?" Uma asked as the two of us looked to her and she went wide eyes.
"Is that a bad idea?" I shook my head.
"Nope, pretty good actually, just not really thought about." She smiled. I looked to Jason.
"When Connor gets back he needs to go into the sewer and run the pipes with cables in my bag to the exit. FG will take care of the other end and the barrier modification."
"My crew can help." I shook my head.
"Magic is going to be used to weld the pipes shut. Then nobody can cut the wires." She nodded.
"Ok, so you do actually have plans for this place." I smirked at her.
"Yes I do. That will be the first method of money for the crown. Charge for service." Jason nodded and Uma frowned.
"Why do you keep saying crown? Isn't it you and your brother?" I sighed.
"Technically yes, but we don't take from the coffers if we can help it. Here I don't actually have any money yet. It belongs to the throne. Each month I will give myself a paycheck… if the crown can afford it. This way I don't buy to much clothing for myself and rob the tax money. The money I paid for my hair was as a way to boost the economy, that is why it was all low bills, so it could be spent easier." She began to think as I looked to Jason who was smiling at her.
"I think we need to accomplish that all before we worry about other things." He shook his head.
"On my ride back yesterday I saw a few areas that will probably fall down in a bad wind, we need to reinforce them."
"The barrier stops the wind." Uma said as we looked to her and she frowned.
"Did you not know that?" I shook my head.
"No I didn't. I still need to reinforce it. It will drain a lot of my magic though, and we don't have builders I can pay to do it." Uma blinked.
"Me and my crew can protect you on the way back. Shouldn't you get paid for the repairs though?" I chuckled.
"Does anyone around here have the money to hire the crown to repair the buildings?" She frowned.
"No, maybe my father, but that is all." I blinked.
"Who is your father?" She glared.
"None of you… actually." She took a deep breath.
"Dr. Felicitor. Can you help my sister?" I blinked.
"Help with what?" She sighed.
"I just want her to have a good life. I don't know much beyond that. But she should be magical." I sighed.
"How old is she?"
"13." I shook my head.
"She needs to be a kid, not worry about a job. I can allow her use of her magic, but you are responsible for her obeying the laws with it." Uma smiled.
"Deal." I looked to Jason.
"You willing to lead some of her crew in my protection? I am going to repair a warehouse to use as a store, and newspaper." He sighed.
"Yes, I can, but she is coming too." Uma went wide eyed but nodded.
"Umm, what are you going to sell?" I chuckled.
"For now, repair, not sell. It will buy things, repair them, then sell them. Magic and knowledge can repair a lot." She frowned.
"You mean magic?" I shook my head.
"No. without knowing how things go together you could probably repair 5 things before you need a nap. With knowing how they do, then you can repair about 30. Of course a repaired item will only work so good compared to an original with no magic keeping it together." She nodded as I chuckled.
"Towards the end of the book it should explain it more." She smiled and nodded.
"Thank you for that by the way." I waved it off.
"Think Jeffery would want the clerk job for a bit?" Uma smiled.
"You don't hate him?" I sighed.
"No, I understand what he did, but the police need discipline. He didn't have it. All he would have had to do was talk to me or wait outside until he saw his father break the law. There is a reason the badges would not come back till midnight." She went wide eyed and smirked.
"Yup, your not a goody, goody Auradonian." I laughed.
"I think we have covered tomorrows plans for now." Jason nodded.
"Agreed Harry."
"You don't always call him king or your highness?" Jason shook his head.
"Not when in private. With you being allowed to live here I will treat it as the same." I shook my head.
"Right, return the chairs and get to bed, tomorrow is going to be long." They nodded and left the room as I went to bed. My final thoughts for the day… I hope Mal is doing well.
Line break
I woke up to banging. I jumped out of the bed and ran to the door to throw it open. Uma was there, now staring at the remaining scars from my relatives on my bare chest. I shut my eyes.
"Uma you better have a reason to wake me up this early." She shook her head.
"Right, you need to get to the throne room immediately. Jason and Connor are trying to save a kid." My eyes went wide as I teleported with a loud crack and appeared standing on the throne. Connor who had his back to me spoke quickly.
"I was on my way back, when I saw it. I can't heal it all, the band is already burning!" I jumped down and slid up next to him and only hesitated a minute. The girl was probably about 10 or 11, malnourished, chain around her neck, torn clothes, and bleeding from multiple gashes.
"Accio Wand!" I yelled having forgotten it in my rush. When it hit my hand I immediately pointed it to the girl and focused all my magic into healing her. I watched carefully as the cuts sealed to red lines and the red marks from the chains faded. I sat back on my feet as she was still breathing heavy. With a flick of my wrist her shirt dissipated leaving her in a bra with bruising all around her torso. I went wide eyed as I focused again and felt almost all of my magic trying to repair the organs I had no idea what they looked like. I would need to read a book about anatomy encase there is a next time. When all the injuries were gone, or had turned to scars I stood up and turned to Uma who was watching with wide eyes.
"Who is..." Blackness claimed me.
Time Skip
I woke up while in pain. I groaned and whimpered as I sat up and looked around. I was in my room. With a sigh I began to get dressed as I wondered what happened to the poor girl. When I opened the door to my room I blinked as Jake was standing there. He turned and sighed.
"Sorry, Uma told me to keep everyone out of your room. Last night was bad apparently. There is blood all over the floor." I nodded and stood up strait.
"Where is she and where is the girl I helped?" I began to walk to my throne.
"The captain is opposite the tank in the throne room. The girl you saved is next to her. One of your guards dissolved the chain on her neck once we were all here. Uma picked who was on night shift, and the rest went to arrest the one who did it to her." I nodded, before taking another breath as we entered the throne room. Jason immediately hit the but of his spear? and Uma turned with wide eyes along with the girl. Connor ran over with a frown and offered me a Pepper up potion. I downed it before looking to him.
"Keep me responsible with these things." He nodded.
"Course your majesty." I nodded before going over and sitting on my throne with a sigh of relief. Looking to the girl who was hiding behind Uma I frowned.
"You taking care of her? She seems to be scared of me." Uma nodded.
"Yes. She was treated as a slave by her father and uncles. The force is getting him." I shook my head.
"I don't have the power to shrink him. Is child abuse his only crime? Who is he anyway?" Uma glared at the door.
"Horned King. And no he deserves worse then the tank. He killed his wife after Cynthia was born." I nodded.
"Connor, the cells until I have the strength back… Connor?" I asked as I noticed him looking with a hard look at Jake who was fingering his sword. Connor's shield sprang to life. Uma stepped up and slapped Jake.
"Jake, that is why I didn't send you. Give me your sword."
"Uma the horned king..."
"I KNOW. Now shut up give me your badge and sword. Come back in the morning and I will let you watch him shrink. Hell I bet the king will let you put a crab in the tank with him the other one is almost eaten already." He took a breath before obeying her. She turned to Connor and held out the sword.
"It wasn't the power comment. He has history with the prisoner." Connor nodded.
"Yes. King Harry, the cells will hold." I nodded.
"How did you find her anyway?" He sighed.
"She was being moved. The man dropped the chains and ran when I stopped the bike. I chose to help her." I nodded.
"Good call." I sighed.
"Once he is put away, has Jason told you the plans for the wires?" He sighed.
"Yeah, I have sewer duty, I know." I chuckled.
"Sorry." He nodded.
"I know, you can't do the building yet though." I laughed.
"Can't do much of anything today." He smiled.
"No, you shouldn't. I have news though. Lonnie will be coming with FG in a few days while Carlos, and Jay will be after the tests they have. Mal plans to visit soon as well." I groaned.
"Did she give you a day? I want to make this place look better for when she comes." He smiled.
"No she said she wanted to surprise you." I groaned and rubbed my forehead before clattering was heard getting louder and louder. I schooled my features.
"Connor, Jason, seems like they need help." Connor frowned.
"But shouldn't one of us watch Uma?" Jason shook his head.
"Don't worry about it" They shared a look before nodding and going out the door. I looked to Uma.
"I am going to have to delay repairs." She nodded with a smile.
"No worries." I sighed before going into my bag and taking out a book on anatomy.
"Is that why it took so much out of you?" I nodded.
"Never thought to study it. Had to force the magic." She nodded and went to sit back down as I started to read.
Time Skip
It was a long day with me feeling like shit the entire time. On the bright side I now know a lot about anatomy, and that it grosses me out. I chuckled at the thought as I left my room for the day.
"King Harry, how are you feeling today?" I smiled at Connor.
"I would feel perfect if Mal was here and I didn't know what was on the docket today."
"What's on the docket today?" I heard in a voice I haven't heard in a while. I smiled at the purple haired girl dressed in leather.
"MAL! What are you doing here?" I said as I wrapped her in a hug.
"I told you not to come until I had everything settled." She raised an eyebrow.
"Did you really think you could command me?" I shook my head.
"No, but I hoped you would listen. Things are a bit sticky at the moment." She smiled.
"Yes, I know. Uma was here when I came in. She your secretary or something?"
"Leader of the police force actually. Her crew is doing pretty well." Jason scoffed.
"After she tried to kill you anyway." Connor and Mal both went wide eyed.
"Thanks Jason I can really count on you." He smirked and Mal started to walk for the door.
"Where is that bitch?" I teleported in front of her.
"Might I remind you that you had bad intentions in the beginning too." She glared for a moment before nodding.
"Fine, but I don't like her." I nodded.
"I don't like Jason so I know how you feel." She hit my stomach as Connor chuckled and Mal rolled her eyes.
"So what is on the Docket as you put it?" I frowned.
"Draining my magic." She frowned and took my hand.
"What do you mean?" I sighed.
"I am going to restore a warehouse to start a newspaper, introduce electricity, and have a store. It should jump start the economy." She nodded with a frown.
"What are you going to do for the store?" I sighed before picking her up and teleporting to my throne as she giggled.
"Buy stuff from people, use magic to restore it, then sell it back to whoever wants it at a markup." She nodded, deep in thought.
"Without knowing the makeup wouldn't that drain you?"
"That's what he told me." Uma said as she walked in. I looked down as Mal stood and walked over to her, eyes glowing.
"You tried to kill him?" Her eyes went wide.
"Well, umm yeah, but I didn't. Even when he told me to." Mal stopped dead and slowly turned to me as I tried to make myself small.
"You what now?" I gulped.
"I was gambling and it worked out." She glared before pointing at me.
"FG gave me a bracelet." I went wide eyed before she started shooting stinging hexes at me. I tried to dodge, but refused to shield against her.
"Connor should we help him?" Jason asked. I shook my head from behind my throne.
"Don't you dare. I am not shielding you don't help. I deserve this." A loud crack rang out behind me.
"You really do." Mal said before I got hit with a powerful stinging curse. I groaned as Uma laughed and Mal giggled. She turned to Uma. A very under powered curse hit the girl who jumped and rubbed her elbow. Uma glared for a second before sighing.
"Fair." She sighed.
"King Harry, Jake is standing in front of the honed king glaring. He is refusing to go on patrol until he is taken care of." I took a breath and stood.
"Mal, what are the chances I could convince you to go to my room for a few minutes?" She gave me a look. I sighed and nodded.
"Right." A carefully cast Gemino curse and there were now two thrones. I looked to Connor and Jason.
"Get the prisoner." They nodded and left as I took my seat. Mal took hers.
"What are you going to do?" I sighed.
"Make him confess, then possibly feed him to a crab." Uma shook her head.
"He hasn't left the dungeon to get one." I rubbed my forehead.
"I don't want to know why he is so focused." She shook her head sadly.
It took only a couple minutes before he was dragged into the room and put into the square. He looked around.
"I can feel this truth magic. I will not answer anything." I stood and took a step down.
"You are accused of breaking every law I have made. If you do not talk then you get the maximum punishment for the older generation." He spit at me and I nodded.
"So be it." I drew my wand so it wouldn't take as much since I have other things to do. After he shrunk I looked to Mal who was wide eyed. I looked down as I heard them moving behind me to the tank.
"You hate me now don't you?" She came over to me and kissed my cheek before hugging me.
"No, I grew up over here, remember." I nodded with a tear in my eyes as I hugged her tightly.
"Jake! Stop staring, your on day shift remember. Here is your sword, go make sure nobody takes his place." We separated as Jake took the sword and left the castle. Uma went to her desk and began to write, but glanced to us a few times. I wiped my eye and kissed Mal's cheek. She cleared her throat.
"So what laws have you implemented?" I smiled.
"Uma, can you bring me a copy?" She stood and grabbed a page before bringing it over. Mal frowned.
"Harry, there are almost a hundred times this in Auradon."
"I knew it!" Uma called as I shook my head.
"Starting small." She nodded.
"Yeah, these seam like important ones." I smiled.
"Care to come with me to the warehouse?" She took my arm.
"Lets. Then I can fix your decorations. Evie was right, this place is much to gloomy. People need to not be scared to talk to you." I frowned as Uma scoffed.
"You have been in Auradon too long." She shook her head.
"No, I remember plenty Uma. But FG's office, she is the head of the school, is welcoming. It makes you know your in trouble, but also tells you that you don't have to be." I shook my head.
"I have no idea how to make that." She smiled.
"Evie and I made plans." I rolled my eyes.
"Of course, my future Queen." She giggled and Uma sighed.
"Wow your different." She turned and gave her a look.
"So are you. I never pictured you as a minion. What happened, Harry catch you on a fishing pole?" Uma glared and went to yell before taking a deep breath.
"I respect his laws, the fact that he is not trying to simply replicate Auradon..." She looked to the ground.
"And he is going to help my sister." Mal frowned and looked to me for a second before looking to Uma.
"You never revealed it to anyone. Freddy?" Uma nodded with a deep sigh.
"She needs a better life." Mal took Uma's hand.
"Sorry, we can figure this rivalry out." She turned to me.
"Have you addressed the school yet?" I blinked and sighed.
"I knew I forgot something." She smiled and looked to Uma.
"Once he drains himself, want to come with me and rip some teachers apart?" Uma smirked.
"Sounds good to me." I looked to Connor.
"Protect Mal when she goes."
"Harry I can take care of myself." I took a breath and pouted.
"Please, just Connor." She shook her head.
"No." I glared.
"Then I go with you." She narrowed her eyes.
"You will be too weak once drained." I smirked.
"Take Connor then." She glared for a moment before sighing.
"Fine. But he is going to need to stay out of the details." I nodded.
"Long as he can protect you." She nodded and rolled her eyes.
"Lets go drain you then." I rolled my eyes and nodded as we all left the castle to go next door.
Line break
I was finally done. We had started in the basement so I could fix the foundation before moving up. Now I was on the damn 5th and last floor. I fell onto my butt as I breathed heavy, wand in my hand.
"I...didn't think...this through." I said in between breaths. Mal and Uma giggled before glaring at each other for a moment. Mal shook her head.
"Ok, hating you is taking too much effort. Especially if your going to be in charge of the police when I get back for good." Uma nodded.
"What do you suggest?" Mal smirked. Then she pointed at Uma and mumbled. I began to chuckle as Uma looked confused until she looked down. Her blue leather jacket had been turned purple.
"What the hell?" I chuckled some more as Mal smiled.
"I haven't learned how to have it change for more than about an hour. My boyfriend is the one you wanted to kill. Leave it for the hour and I will call us even." She held out a hand to shake and Uma sighed. I turned to Connor and whispered.
"Turn Mal's blue for an hour." He smiled and waved his hand. This time Uma laughed and I smiled.
"You were mean to her too." She glared at me as the guards took a step back.
"Harry." I sighed.
"Mal come on. You tried to do so much shit when you went to Auradon. Cut her some slack." She sighed.
"Harry, get up, we need to get you home so we can fix the school." I groaned and stood up as Jason came to my side to help. Mal frowned.
"Do you have a pepper up potion?" She asked. I went to answer as Connor cleared his throat.
"My Lady, he has asked that I be in charge of the potions so he does not become addicted. He has had 3 in the last week. Today is not a good idea." Mal nodded and looked to me.
"Harry, we are going to need to talk about that. You are usually really careful about draining yourself, and potions. You didn't even have the power to change the color of my jacket." I blinked.
"What do you..." She smiled.
"Harry, I can sense your magic by now. You use it all the time." I frowned and put my wand away. She nodded to Jason.
"Put him to bed. Uma and I will be back in under an hour. I will take his duties." I shook my head.
"Mal, I..." She cut me off with a glare.
"Your trusting Uma with the police, I will read through the laws again, you have the punishments next to the laws." I sighed but nodded.
"Ok, just remember the truth square. I haven't figured out the trial and jury yet." She nodded with a frown.
"I will do what I can." I sighed and nodded.
"Mal, I love you." She smiled and hugged me.
"Love you too Harry, now go to bed." Uma looked between the two of us. I frowned.
"How much longer is Jeffery bound?" Mal chuckled.
"Harry. Bed, worry about this stuff later." I sighed, and agreed.
"Ok Mal. You win." She smirked.
"I always do." I rolled my eyes, but my smile got wider.
"Let's go Jason. Apparently I have a date with a bed. Might sit on the..." Mal glared.
"Never mind, strait to bed." She smiled and nodded.
"Good boy." I chuckled as I left with Jason.
Line Break
I woke up feeling wonderful for the first time in a while. When I looked to my right I saw Mal sleeping on the pillow next to me. Pulling her to me I took in a deep breath of her hair with a smile.
"Harry, please don't wake me up, you have a tough job here." I smiled.
"I had Connor clean your room when I found out you wanted to come here." She sighed.
"Harry, I was a different person then." I frowned.
"Sorry." She sighed again.
"Harry, relax, it was a nice thought." I smiled.
"I will talk to you in the morning then." She held my hand around her stomach tighter.
"Yes you will."
Time Skip
Morning was amazing, waking up next to Mal was something I could very easily get used to. Now however it was the afternoon and Mal was ready to go.
"Are you sure you have to go?" I asked into her ear as I hugged her tightly. She sighed.
"Yes, I am sure. Your mom wants to take me to dinner and talk about how things are going. You sent two reports in two days." She pulled back and met my eyes.
"You had her worried. Honestly I am a little concerned as well. You have never abused potions before." I frowned.
"I told Connor to make sure I don't." She shook her head.
"Not the point Harry. The fact that you felt the need is worrying." I sighed and pulled her close again.
"Oh my god get a room." Uma said from the side as she did paperwork. I turned to her.
"I have a whole castle. Deal with it." She went to retort, but decided not to. I looked back to Mal.
"How is Ben doing catching up on what Adam ignored?" She sighed and shook her head.
"It has built up a lot. Even Belle is beginning to get mad about it. Adam is getting the cold shoulder from both of them." I sighed.
"Tell Mom I am going to send Uma over soon after they set up the newspaper stuff. Ben can find out how the people are reacting."
"I am doing what?" I turned to Uma.
"Talk with Ben, Mom, FG, and whoever else you want to." She glared.
"I didn't agree to that." I smirked.
"Sure you did, when you asked for preferential treatment for your sister." She was pissed clearly.
"When are you going to stop using that against me?" I shrugged.
"When I am done making this isle self sustaining." She shook her head and took out another piece of paper.
"Guess I need to make the schedule further out." I smirked before turning to a smiling Mal.
"Heroes don't do that." She said as I remembered the line from a while ago.
"And I guess you think everything is black and white."
"Us vs them..." I laughed and kissed her cheek.
"Jason, escort her to the barrier so she isn't messed with." I said as I pulled back. She narrowed her eyes.
"Harry I..."
"Come on, give me this. It isn't even five minutes." She nodded. With a sigh.
"Ok Harry. The scooter does make it faster. Thank you for that by the way." I smiled.
"You needed a good mode of transportation even with me not being there." She nodded.
"Even though you had Belle give it to me after you were gone." I walked to the throne.
"I don't know what your talking about." She giggled.
"Bye Uma, glad we could settle our differences. Should make things a lot easier." Uma nodded.
"I think I might throw up." We all laughed a bit as Mal looked back one more time before leaving with Jason. I sighed.
"Uma, something Mal said is getting to me. How many magicals would I not need to worry about stealing from me?" She frowned.
"I have three in my crew, but they have jobs already. Maybe 4, I can think of. Remember stealing..."
"I know, even now your crew lets people off with warnings. I want to put a large stationary magic release item, like the badges, in the back of the shop. Then I don't drain myself as much and Mal doesn't get mad at me." She took a deep breath.
"My sister can do it after school. Teach her the spell and give her $5 dollars an item. I will talk to the rest about trustworthy people." I smiled.
"Deal, and thank you. Connor lets go set that up now." He nodded.
"Jeff has a few days left on his binding, what is your plan for now?" I froze before smiling.
"How much longer on Tremaine's granddaughter?" Connor checked his notebook.
"Two days." I nodded.
"Uma, go get her." She frowned.
"I wasn't here for that." I rolled my eyes.
"Connor, help her out please." He nodded and they left.
I sat poised on my throne as they brought in the woman who was holding the book I gave her like a lifeline. She stepped into the square without needing to be told.
"Did I do something wrong your majesty?" I smiled.
"No you did not. Have you decided on a profession for the future?" She took a deep breath.
"All I know is the hair styling. You said that now belongs to Dizzy though. So I am not sure. I thought I had a few more days to decide though." I nodded.
"I need a shopkeeper for a few days. If you enjoy it, then you can continue." She smiled.
"I would like that." I nodded.
"Good, Connor and I are about to go set up the workshop. You will be running the pawn shop section. Each day until I trust you, you will come to the square at the end of the day to confirm you did not waste the money, or steal it. Is that understood?" She nodded with a soft smile.
"Yes, I understand." I smiled back.
"Good. We will work on getting you a cash register, for now I will enchant a box so only you and one of my enforcers can reach into it." I stood and left with Connor right next to me and Uma taking up the rear. This shouldn't take more than about 15 minutes.
