Having a troubling start to his trail Neville was making his way down the line towards Wellsworth, he had already gone past Cronk and Maron. Carrying on the journey Neville pondered on how he was being treated by the engines, and how it was no different then back home.
As he came up towards the hill he started on the climb, feeling the strain he was able to keep up and reach the top in no time at all and came down the other side. Allowing the weight of the train to carry him down the hill, the speed slowly faded as he applied the brakes allowing him to make a quick stop at the station.
Looking around to find it was empty he decided to shunt his train away and collect what trucks where waiting in the yard.
"Better to get it over and done with." he mumbled to himself.
Edward was making his way up with the goods train giving a warm smile as he took in the county side. As he got closer to the station Edward noticed Neville and he decided to speed up to say hello.
Pulling in Edward was about to say hello and greet Neville, but before he could Neville erupted.
"You know what." snapped Neville "I don't want to deal with any more of you, I've dealt with enough horrid engines back home I don't need to deal with them here, I'm leaving."
Edward was confused as Neville steamed away and charged out of the station, seeing Neville pull away with great speed.
"What was that?" asked Harvey pulling in, behind him.
Edward looked to Harvey "Why are you here Harvey?" he asked.
"I was shunting in the yard, when I got the orders to bring up the supplies to fix the bridge of the loop around Cronk."
"Murdoch was compiling about that all week." recalled Edward.
"Back to my first question, who was the new engine. They looked, uh different."
"I don't know, but I think they're the reason there are rumours about, and I think they have gotten back to him."
"Okay, but do they know that the bridge is out?" asked Harvey.
"I don't know but the single-man will have the points set."
"Except, I was meant to go before him."
"OH NO!" panicked Edward.
Neville had shot past a red single when he left, and the line was set for Harvey, word was soon sent out to warn the next station.
But he had already charged up the hill with all his strength and was still running as he came down the other side. The weight of the trucks gave more of a push giving in to his speed, forcing him down the line faster and faster.
Tearing down the line he was gaining on Maron station, who in turn had raised the alarm and turned all coming in singles to red. But wile the singles had been changed in the panic of news no one thought to change the points, and so as Neville came tearing in, he missed the singles and shot down the wrong line.
Coming up towards the level crossing he didn't see the cars as they made their approach but they heard Neville and stopped short of being hit by the speeding train. Neville was slowing down but still didn't take note of where he was going, until he spotted the barrier up ahead.
"Wait what's that?" he asked as it came barrelling in to view.
In a hast of panic and fear he shot on his brakes, but was still carried forward. It was to late as he crashed the barrier, and carried on over part of the bridge that was being held up by weak supports to keep it prop up right.
As he rolled over his front two wheels went over the side and he was a short distance away form the other side. The fear showed on his face as he looked down at the main line, but before he was able to gather himself the wooden supports snapped and the section of the bridge he was sat on began to tip forward and Neville fell forward and his funnel met the other half of the bridge.
The line of trucks kept him from falling any further, and as he looked down he noted the fallen debris had fallen on the track below. His crew where stuck in the cab holding on for dear life as they where just as in much danger as Neville was.
Edward and Harvey where making a fast as possible approach and as they speed down the line, moving as fast as they could. Arriving on the scene they found the goods train was still far up the line, Edward was forced to stop but Harvey was able to carry on down the second line but had stopped as well.
"I can't see where the new engine is." worried Edward.
"I'll go check." said Harvey.
Leaving he carried on down the line, following the trucks until he found Neville at the far end on the broken bridge.
"Oh hello are you okay?" asked Harvey.
"No, I'm stuck."
"Don't worry." said Harvey "I'll soon have you out." Backing up the line and ounce again joined Edward. "We are going to need you to pull him back slowly."
"I don't think I could pull this much." worried Edward.
"Okay, I'll go down the train and make an adjustment."
Edward seemed worried as Harvey left ounce again.
Making his way down Harvey moved back and fourth worrying, unsure how much weight kept Neville up and how little could be removed. Soon he decided his crew climbed out and uncoupled the trucks, giving a whistle to Edward the trucks began to move slow at first but they where cleared out of the way.
Ounce they where shunted on to the other line Edward made his approach and found Harvey waiting on him.
"If this is wrong." Harvey said "I might have to deal with more then the bridge repairs.
"Don't worry." said Edward, and he started pulling.
Neville felt himself move and the bridge began to shift under him, in a streak on panic he wanted to move and called to his crew.
"Backwards?"
Trying to get in to position they got to the controls and tried to make him go backwards but his fire was up set in drop and as the current angle was he unable to move. Soon as he moved backwards the bridge under him was coming away more and more, as his tender and back wheels where pulled of the bridge it happened. With such a shift in weight the rest of the bridge snapped clean of and Neville's front wheels where not aligned and his wheels hung over the rails as the bridge crashed over the main line.
Edward was staining as he weight of Neville was no longer resting on the broken bridge and pulling hard, his wheels slipped and almost jutted forward. But Harvey swung his crane and hooked up to the coupling and he yanked as well, their combined strength was enough to jerk back.
Neville was soon derailed but on sturdy ground, Edward gave off a sigh of relief had Harvey felt a strong pain in his crane arm.
