The horde of wretches screeched while flying in front of the sun. Down below, near a beach, zombies were lurking around. They looked up at a lighthouse, where a Zom-B-Gone light was placed. A wretch flew by and landed, grabbing the light and breaking it. The formula fell to the ground and spilled. The wretch screeched and flew away. The zombies continued moving now that the Zom-B-Gone wasn't stopping them anymore.
"Hmm, let's see," Quint murmured to May, who was holding the letter while sitting on his bed. "What's next on my 72 daily tasks?" He spun the wheel and she looked up in concern. As it was spinning, she walked over to him with a small frown.
"Quint, can we talk about the 72 tasks thing?" She wondered as the wheel landed on a dog-like face.
"Feed Rover! Ha! Such a helpful wheel!" He stated happily and she looked at him, sighing heavily.
"That's the thing, though! Anyone else can feed Rover, heck, he sometimes feeds himself! You get what I'm saying?" She gestured to the wheel behind her.
"May, come on. That wheel's helped us out a lot. Without it, I might miss something really important," He stated as he walked off. She rolled her eyes while her back was turned to his tablet, therefore neither of them saw the lights going out.
He put some dog food into a dish, tossing it in front of Rover. He then used a tube to water the flowers. Then he was doing things around the treehouse, such as cleaning it and making sure all the electricity was working.
He sighed when going back to his room, May following him. "Just need to check that all the zom-b-gone torches are online," He said while looking at his notebook. "Unless one of you guys wants to!" He called out, but nobody else was around. "Hello?! Jack? June?" He looked in their rooms, neither of them there. He then popped into Dirk's attic bedroom. "Dirk! You're here! And..." He paused as he saw Dirk dressing up, even wearing a tie. "You're wearing a tuxedo?"
"Not even when he pretended to be my boyfriend did he ever do that," May commented while climbing up. "What's the occasion?"
"Ah, my big day!" He answered them with a smile. "Passed the test, now I'm gonna be an honorary monster," He sighed happily, glancing at his friends. "Is the tux too much? The tux is too much, right? I'll ditch the tux." He then tossed the coat off of him, revealing his regular clothes. "Keeping the cumber bund," He snapped it tight and then slid down to the first floor.
"Dude, Jack and June are gone!" He stated with a frown.
"I even asked our friends at Joe's Pizza," May gestured to outside. "No one's seen either of them since yesterday."
"Hey, relax, guys. They're probably on a, like, summer stroll," He waved it off while walking away. "You guys probably do that all the time now," He smirked playfully at them.
"Summer stroll?" Quint asked in confusion, both of them blushing.
"We don't return the next day, though," May muttered while crossing her arms.
"Oh, so you admit it!" Dirk winked at them and May scoffed in disbelief.
"We're not admitting to any—ugh!" She pinched her nose in annoyance.
"You guys think too much," He dismissed and the two sighed. Dirk chuckled a little as he saw down below all the monsters gathering around. Drinks were being made and a chair was being placed down. Chef looked up at Dirk, signaling that he was watching him.
"Oh! O-okay, nerd burglar," Dirk suddenly grabbed Quint's shoulders. "Listen, Chef is all in my head. I just want him to like me! But I also wanna crush him!"
"You want Chef to like you? If it was me, I'd just ignore him," May raised a brow in confusion.
"I've never seen this emotionally vulnerable side of you, friend," Quint smiled at him.
"Argh, I'm gonna enjoy my big day, Chef or no Chef," Dirk declared while walking up to the ladder. "Come on, I need backup."
"You mean, emotional support?" Quint smirked at him.
"No!" Dirk grunted in denial. "Backup! Totally different!"
"Uh, I would, but-" Suddenly dream heads of June and Jack popped up, floating around him.
"What's the plan, Quint? Fix the radio, Quint!" Then Rover and Skaelka appeared.
"Wrestle my arm, Quint!"
He waved his arms to shoo them away. "You wanna go gallivanting? Then I, too, will gallivant! Tasks can wait!" He cheered happily and then noticed May still holding the letter. "Oh, uh, Dirk, can you give us a few minutes?"
"I get it, third wheel," He said quickly while climbing down the ladder.
"That's not funny!" May retorted and then sat down in a chair with a huff. Quint said next to her, a little fidgety. He had no idea what the letter said, or what she would do about it, but...he was gonna be here for her no matter what.
"So...what does it say?"
She sighed heavily and opened it.
Dear Maylin,
I don't know why I did what I did or said what I said. I haven't exactly been the world's greatest dad. I just want you to succeed, because I never did. I made a lot of mistakes, I know, and I know you could never forgive me, but...if you want to talk, I have a hotel room outside of Wakefield. Maybe we can make up for lost time. Just know that I never meant to hurt you, and it kills me that I felt like I needed to.
I love you,
Dad
"What?" Quint asked in anger, standing up. "He wants you to forgive him?! Why?" He paced in front of her, and she didn't say anything. He paused and stared at her, seeing the girl bite her lip. "May..." He kneeled in front of her pleadingly. "Please don't tell me you're gonna actually forget everything he's done."
"No!" She denied immediately, closing her eyes. "But at the same time... he is still my dad. I don't know if I should even go see if he's even alive."
"But this was written before you ran away, before he..." He didn't finish his sentence and looked away.
"I know how this looks, but I haven't decided anything final yet. So don't worry," She gave him a small smile. "And I'll tell the others later, whenever we actually find them. Maybe we should all talk about it and see what happens then. Right now, we gotta go emotionally support Dirk."
"Backup! Back. Up! Two different meanings!" Dirk called out from down below and they stared at him. "Two different words!"
They both just chuckled and turned to each other.
"Thanks, Quint. For...for just being there," She smiled softly up at him. He blushed and stood up, turning away.
"Y-you're welcome."
Meanwhile, as they were leaving, more and more lights were going out. "Quint? Guys! Someone please answer!" Jack said urgently into the walkie talkie. "I have to tell you important life and death King Wretch stuff! Somebody, please pick up!" He shouted as he and Skaelka ran out of the destroyed building. She jumped on a car, using her axe to throw him onto a van. They both stood up while watching the wretches fly away from them. Jack gave a look of worry as he used his camera to zoom in, seeing them destroy a Zom-B-Gone. "The torches! They're doing this on purpose! I've doomed my friends. My scaredy pants fear of losing them is gonna cause me to lose them for real!" He panicked to Skaelka.
She smiled while placing a hand on his shoulder. "Probably," She answered simply. He jumped down from the van.
"But Quint and May will fix stuff and save everyone. Right?" He wondered while they ran off.
"Probably not," She said and he whimpered in fear, running after her.
Meanwhile, Dirk got a monster helmet over his head, all the monsters cheering for him. Quint and May watched on with smiles. He looked back at Chef passing by, the monster blowing a raspberry at him. Two monsters silently assured him.
"Come on and have a seat, honorary monster buddy!" Belly-Buster called out, Baer on the other side. His eyes widened happily and he was pushed over to it. He fell back...and landed on his back as Chef had pulled away the throne.
"Hey, now!" Quint protested at this.
"You're such a jerk!" May clenched her fists. Chef looked over Dirk and laughed.
"That's it, Chef!" Dirk stood up, having had enough. "I did your challenges! But if that ain't enough to earn your respect, then I'll show you how we do it on Earth!" He rolled up his sleeves, both of them preparing to fight. The door nearby opened to reveal Bardle, who looked up towards the sky.
"Listen. The sound of the undead..."
"I don't hear nothin'," Dirk denied as everyone looked around.
"You have only two organs for sound intake," Bardle pulled at his ears a little. "I have forty-seven!"
"47, where do you keep 'em?" May murmured in confusion, gasping in realization. "Oh no, the zombies are coming here?!"
"But zombies can't get within a mile of town square," Quint said, realizing the same thing as her. "Unless...oh no!" He rushed upstairs to his room and finally saw all the torches being out. "Every single torch out? How?!" Then he noticed that the radio was gone. "And wait! Where's-"
"The radio's gone!" Dirk finished for him and May flinched upon seeing the note June left for them.
"That's not our only problem..." She murmured while pointing to it. Quint picked it up and read it.
"What is it?"
Quint flinched in alarm after reading it. "June. She...she left!"
"What?!" May shouted in disbelief, taking the postcard from his hands.
"And she took the radio! And she's not with Jack! I told you they weren't on any summer stroll!" Quint clenched an angry fist. May took out her walkie-talkie. "This is bad! Come on!"
"And we've gotta get one of their butts back here like now!" May added in while they all rushed downstairs. Quint swept everything off the picnic table, placing a blueprint that showed the whole city with red circles.
"We must re-light each torch by hand or zombies will overtake the town!" He informed all the monsters. He then jumped onto the table. "Bellybuster, take a group to the North," He grabbed a bag and handed it to the monster.
"Biggun, Globlet, to the South," May handed them supplies next.
"The rest of you, to the East," Quint continued, putting on a bag himself. "Bardle, May, and I will go West. Now go! We need to crank the generator to power all the torches," He glanced at the generator down the street. "No matter what, we can't let it stop!"
"And not to mention if we don't finish in time, the zombies will show up here. We need people to guard it and defend our home," May stated, hands on her hips.
"Uh-huh. I-"
"Hey," Chef interrupted Dirk, to his confusion. "Sounds important. Better let me handle it."
"Hey! I was about to say that!" Dirk argued back to the monster.
"Oh, you were gonna say better let me handle it?" Chef smirked in amusement.
"No! You know what I-"
"Enough!" Bardle interrupted while riding Rover. "You both stay behind," He informed while Quint was behind him and May was hugging Quint.
"Aww, no fair!"
"Aww, slitherin' sea whiskers!"
"Have fun, and don't make each other mad," May looked back while glaring. She turned back to Quint while looking at her walkie-talkie.
"That's a moot warning, you know," Quint told the girl.
"Yeah," She agreed casually, pressing the button. "Jack? June? Come in, it's an emergency! Guys?" She sighed in annoyance from getting static.
"He told you to stay here," Chef mocked Dirk, who went towards the generator. "Ha ha ha—hey, hold it!" Dirk grabbed the panel, taking it off and flipping the switch. Chef slithered over as the generator turned on, electricity going to the wires up above.
A little monster saw a hot dog, sniffing it and chittering. He took a bite, but then something landed behind him. He looked up to see a giant monster growling down at him. He stood up, getting a small shock thanks to the sign nearby. The monster chittered while running off, the monster roaring and slamming on the ground. He looked up to see where the electricity was going, following the path.
June walked past a puddle, as she was already out of Wakefield. A lizard crawled by as she went past a car. She looked upset, thinking about what she had done. She stopped in front of an RV and sighed heavily, leaning against the door. She looked down at the radio in her hands and fiddled with it. She gasped as she thought she had a signal, but got static again. She groaned at her results and stood up, taking off again.
"Ha! Humans," Chef scoffed at Dirk. "Scared of harmless things like the slow, dumb undead." Dirk turned away, though he was definitely fed up with the mocking. "Don't scare me! Ha ha ha," He then sniffed the air as he caught a whiff of something. "But that does." Dirk sniffed as well, stepping forward as they both looked up ahead.
"Oh, that's the stink of evil..." Wind blew away a paper, and they saw the electricity waves, hearing the monster heading their way. The monster revealed itself, crashing into a building and pushing away a car. They both gasped as they realized how the monster got there, glancing to each other. Then they both whimpered at the monster, who roared at them.
Quint hung on for dear life while Rover was running. "I told my friends I'd monitor those torches! What is wrong with me?!"
"Nothing, Quint," May defended, placing a hand on his shoulder. She then heaved him up so he could stay upright. "It's not your fault, we'll find out what happened to the torches and fix everything." He smiled a bit from her encouragement, Rover coming to a stop in front of an alleyway. He growled as something was in there, and they stepped down.
"Oh no! Zombies!" Quint worried as they stepped forward, Bardle and May preparing themselves. "They're already here!" Something jumped out of the shadows and Quint yelped. Skaelka came out of hiding and hit the ground. He screamed, about to fall on the ground when Bardle caught him and made him stand up straight.
"Sorry, my friend Shirley here was just excited to see you," She smiled at them.
"Um...sentiment returned?" May raised a brow while putting down at her arms.
"Hi guys!" Jack also came out of hiding.
"Jack!" May and Quint ran over to him in relief.
"Where were you?" Quint asked first.
"Yeah, I contacted you like 10 times over the walkie," May held up her walkie-talkie. She watched as Quint and Jack did a handshake.
"I went to destroy the King Wretch, had my walkie turned off. And I did! Only problem, he sent out his way too loyal wretch army," He explained to them slowly. Quint and May gasped in realization.
"The torches! They're the ones putting out the torches!" Quint panicked, May holding his shoulders from behind a bit calmly.
"So that they can deem carnage over all of us!" She narrowed her eyes.
"Ugh, yep," Jack deadpanned in annoyance. "But we've faced worse, right? You know, you two and me and with Dirk and June?" The last name made them frown, since...he wasn't going to like what she had done.
"Hmm. Um..." He looked nervous, and that didn't go unnoticed.
"Ah...that is to say...dum..." May faltered as she didn't know how to tell him either.
"Uh, guys? Why'd you make your queasy faces? You made your queasy faces when I said June," He raised a suspicious eyebrow. The two glanced at each other and May gestured for Quint to tell him. Jack had known him the longest, after all, so he might take it better if he heard it from Quint.
"June's gone."
"What?!" Jack's eyes widened in a panic.
"Um, g-gone to get torches back online," Quint immediately added in. May opened her mouth in shock.
"Quint-" He covered her mouth with his hands and she protested.
"Which is what we must do!" Skaelka shouted as she grabbed Jack. Bardle lifted May and Quint onto Rover. "Come!" Rover took off, Jack hanging onto the back. May pushed away Quint's hands, looking back at him.
"What are we doing?" She whispered to Quint in disbelief. "We can't keep lying to him forever, he's gonna know eventually! Jack's your best friend, Quint."
"I know, I know," He whispered back, making sure Jack couldn't hear them. And he couldn't, he was too focused onto not falling off Rover. "Look, I'll tell him later when we get the torches back online, I promise. Right now, we have a job to do. He'll be too heartbroken if I tell him now."
May closed her eyes with a sigh, shaking her head. She just knew it was gonna come back to bite him later...
Meanwhile, at Lumber Party, Biggun was knocking away zombies with a streetlamp. Globlet was connecting a wire, jumping up as the Zom-B-Gone torch went back online.
At Bowl-O-Drome, Bellybuster was throwing bowling balls at the zombies. He was switching the torch out, hitting another zombie. He turned around and turned the torch back on, smiling happily.
A duo of monsters were at the pool, one adjusting the torch and the other fighting off the zombies. Several of them fell into the pool, the green monster flinging the zombies around. The other monster screwed on the torch, and it turned on. Quint's tablet was turning on the lights as the torches went back online, except for two.
The five were still riding Rover as they found the last torch at the lighthouse. "You two take the torch at the flooded parking lot," Quint stated as he, Jack, and May all hopped off. "We'll handle the one atop the lighthouse!" The trio ran off towards it. "This is the most important one! It defends the entire eastern border of Wakefield!"
"What are the odds there's a scary old zombie lighthouse keeper dude at the top of this thing?" Jack questioned him as they kept running.
"There wasn't one when I installed the torch!" Quint panted out. "Thanks for putting that idea into the universe!"
"Listen, we'll deal with it when we get up there. Like you said, this is the most important one, so let's get up there!" May pointed upward, and all of them slid to a stop at the front door. They yelped as zombies were already up ahead, and they ran to the side.
"Once they pass the lighthouse, it's a straight path to town!" Quint panicked as they were right next to the Wakefield sign.
"That is very useful and effective signage," Jack complimented at it.
"Jack!" May called out in protest.
"Right, sorry. Okay, guys, plan wise, what's the plan?"
"We don't have one!" Quint yelled back in defense.
"Whoa! I just meant it like, you know, a general question," Jack held up his hands. "Like, let's figure it out. Dude, why are you being weird?"
"I'm not!" Quint turned away defensively, crossing his arms. Jack glanced at the girl, who bit her lip while looking at Quint. He could tell that both of them were hiding something.
"Yes, you are! ...B-but there's no time to chat your weirdness," He walked past them and the three peeked behind the lighthouse. They snuck over to the front doors, pushing them open. Jack closed the doors behind them as the other two stepped forward.
"Jack! The stairs are not an option!" He looked at the destroyed stairs, vines covering almost everything around them.
"No worries, we'll just take the elevator," Jack shrugged and then pushed a red button. This, however, turned on a foghorn from outside, and got the zombies' attention. The three looked out the window, Quint and May glaring at Jack. "I didn't know it was a zombie dinner bell!"
"You know, when you use an elevator, you use the button that's the CLOSEST. To the elevator!" May hissed while gesturing to it.
Meanwhile, the giant bull-like monster sniffed the generator. He let out a growl. "Your stupid machine brought that nightmare front and center," Chef scolded Dirk while they were in hiding.
"We gotta get it away from the generator!" Dirk called out as the monster slammed his fists onto the ground, growling.
"Ya think?!" Chef retorted back, and then rolled out his cooking tools.
"Ooh, Chef weapons! Ha ha!" He took a spatula and spun it into his hand. Chef took a pizza cutter and they snuck over to near the treehouse. They both hid behind Dirk's Boom-Kart, which gave him an idea. He shot a football at the monster's head, getting his attention. "Fire!" Chef loaded a football and fired again. The monster roared at this and Dirk slammed on the pedal. He stepped away from the Kart as it went to the monster. He slipped past it, and chased the Kart, sending it flying. He jumped and watched the Kart roll around, but skidded. He couldn't control himself from stopping, therefore sliding into a building.
"I-I got a plan," He spoke up to Chef, who looked skeptical. "Trust me!"
"Nah. Hard pass," Chef waved a hand, crossing his arms.
"Ugh, fine!" Dirk groaned n defeat. "The plan fails, I-I turn over my crown." Chef smirked at this incentive. "Honorary monster, no more."
"Ha ha! That's more like it!"
The three ran up to the elevator, all of them pulling at the door. "It's rusted shut!"
"No, it's rusted open!" Jack corrected him.
"Whatever!"
"You can talk about grammar later, we have more things to worry about!" May shouted as she and Jack both looked towards the doors. The zombies broke it open and staggered towards them.
"Quint! Hurry up!"
"Hurry up and what?!" Quint shouted back as they kept trying and trying, but nothing.
"You know, do something!" Jack looked up as a zombie was right next to May, standing in front of her and using his slicer to hold it back.
"I don't have a plan for the-" He fell backwards onto the floor, the note from June falling nearby. He pulled out a spray can and fired it at the rust. Jack watched as the rust started to come off.
"Corrosive crazy string? Sweet!" Jack smiled as May kicked the zombie back and both of them pulled the door shut. May sighed a bit in relief as she turned around to Quint holding a wheel and turning it.
"It won't hold long! Hurry up and help me turn!" Quint called out, both of them rushing over and helping him. The elevator started to go up, more zombies arriving in the area. Some of them started to fill up the shaft, climbing towards them. Jack yelped as they looked down.
"Ugh, it's like zombie Tetris!" They continued turning and Jack looked up to see the note.
"Oh no," May murmured to herself as Quint attempted to get it back, but Jack beat him to it. He slid his foot over and picked it up.
"Jack, no! You shouldn't read that!" Quint protested, but he did anyway...and learned the truth.
"W-wait...oh...what?!" He pulled away from the wheel, sliding to the ground.
"Jack! Jack!" Quint called out as May went to the other side and started turning, but neither of them could push it on their own as the wheel got caught. The force was too much for either of them and they let go, the wheel spinning rapidly. May yelped as she fell to the ground nearby. Quint flailed around and grabbed Jack's slicer, stabbing it into the wheel. They came to an abrupt stop, and the panel underneath Quint broke off. He was hanging by his legs, May across Jack and slipping a little.
"Whoa! Quint!" She grabbed Quint's arm and pulled him up, both of them going over to Jack's side. "Are you okay?"
"Traumatized!" He answered in a panic.
"June...really left?" Jack asked slowly, getting their attention.
"Jack! This is not the time!" Quint exclaimed at him. "The dead are rising, literally!" He gestured to the zombies coming towards them.
"Why didn't you guys tell me?" Jack looked at the duo.
"I wanted him to tell you! I kept trying to convince him to," She gestured to Quint in protest.
"Because I knew you'd fall apart. And I couldn't have you falling apart the same day thousands of zombies were marching toward town," Quint explained as the zombies were right underneath their feet now.
"I need to know if one of my friends leaves! If May had left, and I knew about it, I'd tell you! How could you guys let that happen?!" He replied back angrily as Quint and May stood up. Quint went over to the other side while May stayed where she was.
"Let her go?! She never even came to me about it, you think that I don't know that fact?" She gestured to herself, annoyed that he was blaming them. She didn't even know June was planning to leave to begin with, because she had kept nudging them to fix the radio.
"72, Jack," Quint spoke up in an angry tone, May turning to him with wide eyes. "72! Every day, 72 responsibilities! 72 things I was doing for everyone except May! Even when she found that letter from her dad, I didn't tell her how I felt because I just wanted to help!"
"Quint..." May's eyes softened as she went over, but then a zombie grabbed her leg. She screamed in alarm, trying to kick it off.
"I..." Jack's eyes darted around and then he groaned. "Ugh! Time out for zombies!"
May gasped while trying to kick them off, looking at Quint. She gulped as she figured now was as a good time as any. Besides, they were in close contact with zombies. "Quint!" She shouted and he looked at her. She opened her eyes. "I need to ask you something!"
"Now? W-We need to do this now?" Quint stammered in disbelief.
"Uh, it's kinda important, so yeah!" She called out over the moaning.
"What could be more important than trying to stay alive?"
"Will you go out with me?" She asked softly and the two boys froze.
"What?" Quint asked softly while staring at her and she gave a weak smile. "Really?"
"Yeah..."
"I've been trying to ask that question for years!" He cried out and she looked away awkwardly. She felt a little embarrassed now.
"So is that a...?"
"Yes! Yes I will!" He answered happily to her.
"This is great for you guys and all, but I need your help over here!" Jack called out and they rushed over to the wheel. "Ready?" The two nodded and Jack took his slicer back. They all turned together, going up the elevator.
June made it to the top of the hill, a view of the city being behind her. She glanced back and sighed, continuing to walk. She came to a stop, putting down her backpack. She wiped off her forehead and then gasped, ducking her head. Two wretches came flying down, but they ignored her, instead going towards town. "Huh?" She took out her binoculars, getting a closer look. "The torches are out. Zombies that close to town? Something must be wrong," She glanced at the radio and put her backpack back on. The radio crackled and she looked conflicted. On one hand, she cared about the radio. But on the other hand, her friends could be in trouble.
The three continued going up while the zombies kept following. "Okay, you got a plan to-"
"To handle this?" Quint gave him a glare.
"Seriously?!" May exclaimed at him.
"We can't keep doing everything! I can't keep you alive while fixing the radio! And also...ugh, I need a snack," Quint vented to his best friend.
"Quint, you've never been this mad at me before," Jack's eyes softened a little.
"Yes, Jack, I have. I just never told you before."
"...May?" He looked at her and she glanced away.
"He's...mentioned it a few times to me whenever we're working together. You've just been really busy with this whole King Wretch stuff that you never stopped to ask how he felt," May told him quietly and he looked up in shock.
The bull monster roared again, going towards the generator. He looked up and saw Dirk and Chef on the roof. "I'll get him running, then you pop out and finish him!" Dirk explained and jumped off the roof. "Hey! Over here!" Dirk waved his hands. "Come get me!"
The monster roared and charged towards him.
"Wait!" Chef called out and jumped down, holding a pizza paddle.
"Hey!" Dirk protested at this.
"No, no! Stop the train, blood sac," Chef started off as the monster kept running towards them. "I see. You want the glory so you look like Mr. Guts n' Guts!" He accused while Dirk looked between him and the monster.
"Dude! No! I'm just trying to-" The monster sent him rolling back and slid to a stop. He growled while looking back at the two. Dirk groaned as Chef stood over him.
"Now, I will do the risky brave stuff, while you easily finish him."
"Fine!" Dirk waved it off, looking around.
"Ohh!" Chef pulled him back by the collar. "You think the one who does the slaying gets the glory, huh? Nope. Switch places back to before!" He pushed Dirk aside, both of them noticing too late the monster coming back. They both ducked their heads, the monster crashing into the treehouse. Some stuff fell down as they looked up.
"Another pass like that and we're dirt nappin'!" The monster growled while getting on all fours, Dirk gasping as he saw the remote nearby. "Uh, how about we both risk our skin and both get the glory?"
"Keep talking," Chef smirked in interest.
"Mm, that's all I got," Dirk shrugged a bit.
The zombies continued climbing up, while they made it to the door, but it also was stuck. "Crab cakes! Now this door is stuck!" Quint exclaimed as they tried to get it open.
"Dude, if we turn into zombies while you're angry at me, does that mean you'll always be angry with me?" Quint slid to sit down. "Like are you gonna ignore me at zombie parties and stuff?" He sat down next to him and Quint gave a small laugh. "Quint, I never asked you to do all this. And...and...I liked you before you did anything for me. Don't you know that?"
"I don't always know," Quint argued back, May glancing back at them. She continued tugging at the door. "I never had a best friend before you."
"Quint, I never had a best friend before you, either," The two were about to do a handshake when zombie hands grabbed them. Both of them screamed while turning away, May looking back with a sharp gasp.
"Oh, come on!" She exclaimed at dozens of zombie hands below them.
"May, I just wanna tell you...that I've liked you for months. There, I said it!" Quint called out and she smiled while blushing.
"Aww, Quint..."
"Okay, let's get out of this mess together!" Quint exclaimed before she could comment further. They all stood up, attempting to ram the door. May looked at her shovel claws and swiped at the door, but it was too rusted. The zombies started crawling in as they kept hitting the door, eventually breaking it off. They rushed up the stairs, reaching the top. The three all slammed the door shut, Jack sighing in relief. However, there was a noise, and they looked up to see a lighthouse keeper zombie above them.
"Ahh! Scary old lighthouse keeper dude zombie. I knew it!" Jack panicked a little, the zombie walking towards them. They all screamed, running to the other side. However, the boys bumped into the zombie and they ran in the other direction. As they were running, the zombies got through the door and stepped inside. They all looked panicked as soon, all of the zombies would be in the room.
Bardle and Skaelka were standing on top of a car. They and Rover were fending off the zombies in the flooded parking lot. "It's okay. Please, come closer," Skaelka spoke up sweetly to them, waving them forward. "Oh, I will not." She spun around to kick them into the water, laughing. "Fooled you! I have fooled nineteen in a row! They are not bright."
Bardle put together the torch using his magic, and that caused all the zombies to leave. Rover looked up and barked, Bardle glancing at him. He was confused, but then his astral projection left his body. He looked towards the lighthouse to see the trio in trouble. "Our help is needed." Skaelka grinned while gripping her axe.
Meanwhile, the bull monster ran around roaring. "Hey, ugly! Over here!" Dirk called out to him, both him and Chef waving. They were both standing in front of Big Mama.
"Hey! Hello!"
"Look at me!"
The monster came charging towards them. "Hello! Look over here!" They jumped out of the way, Dirk smirking. He activated Big Mama's missiles, the monster jumping up. He got hit by them and fell backwards, rolling to a stop.
"Take that!"
"All right!" They landed in front of Big Mama.
"Well, looks like you stomped into the wrong town, buddy body," Chef smirked while spinning his cutting board. Dirk ran over to the generator to check it, sighing in relief.
"It's okay. Oh, look out!" He warned Chef as the monster was right behind him. Chef dropped his pizza paddle in alarm.
"Sizzlin' steak sammiches!" He cried out as the monster grabbed him and roared in his face.
The zombies got closer to the trio, who ran out into the balcony. Jack closed the door behind him, trying to keep it closed. "I'll hold them off! Get to the torch!" He told his friends and they rushed over to it. Quint bent down and pulled up the stand. May grabbed the bulb. The zombies started pounding on the glass, starting to break it.
"Come on, come on!" May urged herself as she fixed the bulb quickly, tossing it to Quint. He placed it into the stand. The lighthouse keeper zombie pushed away Jack and he yelped since the door was in the zombies' direction now. He ran off while May gave Quint the wrench, and he screwed it. The zombies got closer, Jack holding up his slicer.
"Back off! This deck is not certified for zombies!" Jack cried out while backing away. "Look, I really don't wanna hurt you!"
"Nearly there, friend," Quint reported as he and May placed the bulb back in.
"We just need-" May didn't finish her sentence, squealing in alarm. Quint looked down to see why: the cord it was plugged into wasn't nearby. Quint looked up to see it across from them.
"The extension cord!"
The zombies broke through the glass just as Quint grabbed it. Then the whole window broke apart and the group fell in front of the two. The two screamed, Quint pulling at the cord. May grabbed it as well as they both pulled in unison. The zombies walked towards them, zombies already on their opposite side in front of Jack.
"Whoa!" Chef shouted while still in the monster's hand.
"Oh, man!" Dirk looked down at the pizza paddle and got an idea. "Yes!" He rushed over to it.
"Do something, you worthless meatbag!" Chef shouted at him. Dirk kicked it into his hands, running off as the monster slammed the ground with its fist. He went over to the grill and knocked it over. He stepped back as there was now a bunch of ash on the floor. He then used the paddle to spread the ash into the monster's face, causing him to let go of Chef. He rushed over to Quint and the monster freaked out, his body getting caught in the electrical wires. He started to get electrocuted, Dirk standing up and watching it fall unconscious. He walked up to Chef, who noticed what Dirk was holding. "Ha! Your human plan failed! It took my pizza paddle and my barbeque ashes to slay the evil beast."
"Ugh!" Dirk placed a hand on his forehead in exasperation. "Shoulda just let him eat you."
The zombies were closing in on the three, May and Quint trying to get the cable free. The zombies, however, were stepping all over them. "No scary old lighthouse keeper zombie dude is biting my best friend and my other friend!" He stepped back, swinging his slicer, but fell backwards.
"Jack!" The two screamed in alarm, and he was hanging onto the balcony. He climbed back a bit, seeing the zombies surrounding the duo.
"This stupid cable!" May grunted in anger as the zombies were even closer. They finally managed to trip some zombies with the cable, tripping in the process. Quint reached out to the other as a zombie was inching towards him. May threw her shovel claw at it so that it fell and knocked some other zombies down. Quint connected the torch and it turned on. All the zombies either fell off the balcony and ran away. The zombies in the elevator all retreated, the duo going over to Jack to pull him up. They all sighed in relief, looking at each other with smiles. They watched all the zombies leaving the lighthouse area.
"So, you two are going out now?" Jack nudged the two playfully.
"Are you trying to record us as proof for the others? We could just tell 'em," May smirked knowingly at him. He held up a recorder.
"Yeah, but I wanna relive the moment!" He whined at the two, who smiled at each other while holding hands.
"My barbeque, my victory," Chef bragged to Dirk, even though he didn't actually defeat it like Dirk had. He took off the helmet in defeat.
"Fine, take it," He handed it back, walking off while the monster snickered.
"You've done it! The final task! You had your monsterdom taken from you! You got mad, then gave it back! That's the true final task," He laughed as Dirk turned back in disbelief.
"You're just making this up as you go!"
Chef cleared his throat, trying to recollect himself. "Yeah, well." He handed out the helmet and Dirk smiled, reaching out to it. "Too slow!" Chef moved his arm back.
"Aw, give me that!" Both of them laughed at each other, Dirk putting the helmet back on.
"Hey! You wanna grill that bad body up?" Chef smacked Dirk a little as they turned towards the monster. Flies buzzed around it, disgusting the latter.
"Ugh, bro."
"Eh? Ha ha, eh?" Chef raised a playful brow.
"Yes! Ha! Sizzlin' steak sammiches!" He cheered while pumping his fists.
"Hey! That's my catchphrase," Chef laughed as they walked off.
The three went down the elevator, Jack opening up the door. "Okay, gotta hurry, before June makes it too far. If she wants to go, she can. But...I can't let her leave without her knowing...stuff," He opened the doors, and the same lighthouse zombie popped up out of nowhere. They all screamed as he was hanging from a vine at the entrance. He grabbed Jack, both of them frozen in shock. June arrived and threw the antenna, cutting down the zombie. It landed in front of them and then stood up, leaving because of the torch. Quint jumped up and grabbed the antenna, blowing off the dust.
"Still good."
"Waaay too close for comfort," May dusted herself off.
"June!" Jack finally realized her presence. "You're here. You came back!"
"Looks like you guys needed a little help," She smiled up at him. Rover then arrived with Bardle and Skaelka.
"Hmm. My sorcery was not needed."
"I was excited for fighting," Skaelka complained at this. "Bardle! Perhaps, you and I?" She held up her axe and he flinched. "A friendly dual to the death?"
"I...don't think of you that way," He said slowly while pushing down the axe.
"Oh...friend May! Maybe-"
"Nope, no, uh-uh," May chuckled nervously while waving her hands. "I'd rather not get involved with death, thank you very much."
Bardle, Skaelka, Quint, and May rode Rover back home, Jack and June walking behind them. He kicked a soda can as it had been uncomfortable silence between them for a while. Jack was looking towards the ground sadly. "You left," He finally spoke up and she sighed knowingly.
"I know. I...I got all the way to Jackson Peak. And then I saw the torches, the zombies."
"Hope it was worth it," He sighed at her bitterly. "Dirk lost an arm!"
"What?!" She screamed in alarm, her eyes wide.
"Kidding!" He gave a small laugh and she eventually gave one too.
"Dude, don't joke like that."
"Dude, don't leave like that," Jack pointed out and she frowned.
"...Okay. That's fair."
"I was worried about you," He glanced away from her and she hi his shoulder.
"Back atcha," She smiled, a blush on her face.
"You might wanna, uh, talk to Quint and May. The radio, everything," He suggested and she smiled a little.
"Hey, Quint, May! Can we talk for a sec?" She ran up to the two.
"Sure, but you owe me some chocolate crunch bites for that stunt you pulled!" May called out playfully, Jack laughing as he watched the two jump off Rover.
"I'm sorry about the radio, about pushing you two. And for leaving you behind, May, when I should've just talked to my best friend."
"It's good to have you back, June," Quint told her and May smiled.
"Same here. But I am serious about those chocolate crunch bites," May pointed up at her.
"Deal," June smiled happily at the girl. Dirk in the meantime was talking to the monsters. Chef and Bellybuster were drying up the bull monster.
"So, we seen this bull, right? I got a plan," He started off as May, Quint, and June joined them. "Well, Chef'll tell ya. Man plans, Grog laughs. You guys know Grog."
"Well, thankfully because of my..."
Jack stared at his friends in particular. "Well, June came back this time. But what if one of them leaves again?" His eyes saddened as he looked at the note. "How can I convince them to-" He turned the paper around that June had used, seeing a picture of an amusement park. "Funland? This is it! This is what I need!" He then started laughing like a maniac, coughing. He then continued laughing with a devilish look on his face.
"Oh, June, Dirk, May and I have some news for you," Quint spoke up, leading the two away. "Some congratulations are in order. We're...going out now."
"Seriously?!" June opened her mouth in shock, hugging the both of them. "It's about time!"
"Yeah, good on you guys," Dirk smiled, patting their backs.
"Thanks," Quint smiled and looked at his notebook. "What am I gonna do about the 72 tasks now, though?"
May moved down the notebook with a small smile. "How about you and I split them so that you do 36? That way you get done faster every day. Besides, if you keep doing 72, I'm taking away that wheel."
"Oh, May, no, you don't need to do that," He pulled away his notebook, but she ripped off the two pages and ripped them in half.
"No, but you need to take care of yourself, and I don't have much going on anyway, so you don't have much of a choice," She winked as she walked off back towards the monsters. Quint just blinked as he stared at her.
"Wow, I didn't think it was possible to like her even more," Quint gushed at the girl, the others smiling in amusement.
Angel: I've gotten several reviews in Spanish to delete my TMNT 2012 story, even though I honestly don't know why. I had remade it so what is even the point? Plus I know that I've said it before but it needs to be said again:
I haven't touched the TMNT franchise in years now, and yes it is staying that way regardless of what comes out because I just don't care for writing that franchise out anymore. If you really want me to delete something that I choose not to be involved with anymore, deal with it being on my page. I seriously don't get why this person is still making comments about these stories when you can clearly see on my page that I'm not even involved with them? Like why do I still need to be criticized over a franchise that is living dead for me?
Also, I'm almost done writing out this story because I'm on the second to last episode! And sorry that my other stories haven't gotten updated yet, I've been busy adjusting to my new job, which is 8 hours a week. When this story is over, I'll go back to Sophia Satam, and then move onto Sonic Boom, and then Sonic Prime.
