(A/N): Hey guys, it's been a LONG while, but I came back! I'm rusty not gonna lie, you know... life as it happens. I'm trying to get back into the mood to write FF. I'm literally rusty with writing, so please be gentle with the criticism lol. It does feel good though to return to my old Fics, I want to finish these, they're not abandoned, one day I will finish it. For now I'm getting in a little different writing style, I'm rusty once again, so I apologize for that. Well all that I have left to say is, thank you for the read, I hope I don't disappoint, and well let's get on with the chapter. AmayaXRomeo still love it! lol
The young scientist's eyes fluttered open, revealing foggy orbs. With a groan, he reached for his phone. It was 4:00 A.M. on the dot, and he frowned at himself. What was it with him and waking up this early? Romeo sighed, his palms rubbing at his eyes. He would get up; there was no beating around the bush. He had so much planned for the day. He would invite Amaya to come to work with him, as his protégé, even if it would cause him problems with Anna. At this point, he didn't care what the woman thought. He wasn't planning on living in fear of Anna; he wouldn't give her that power over him.
With a sigh he pushed the blanket to the side and stood up, calmly he made his bed, and while yawning and stretching he walked over to the bathroom. Romeo blinked the sleep away and washed his face with soap and cold water, his thoughts on the events the day held. He would take Amaya with him, he would show her around, invite her to some lunch, maybe after work he could drive her around town? Who knows, he would definitely take her to campus at the University.
He brushed his teeth quietly as he stared at himself in the mirror. Romeo spat out the minty suds and washed his mouth. He walked back into his room, undressed and folded his pajamas only to change into his work clothes. A pair of black dress pants, formal shoes, a white button up shirt, a black tie, and his lab coat. He walked to his vanity and pulled on his hair gel, cologne, and he brushed his hair perfectly back, settling it fluffy, the white streak in his hair being proudly displayed. He put on some cologne, deodorant, and a wristwatch and walked out.
Romeo rummaged through his kitchen cabinets and fished for a coffee mug. He quickly set up the coffee machine and soon he had a fresh cup, ready to start his day. Romeo took a sip of his warm drink and wondered how Amaya had rested, or if she had felt out of place. It was normal wasn't it? To feel out of place the first night out of your home? It was as if the human brain knew subconsciously that one wasn't in a familiar place.
He chuckled a little at that thought and as custom he walked to his living room to put on the news. He sipped on the warm beverage, and paid close attention. He knew damn well that the world was going to hell, everyday things were worse. He sipped on his morning coffee softly, enjoying the strong and bitter taste of it.
The sound of footsteps from the hallway caught is attention, and soon he caught sight of the very girl he had been thinking about. "Good morning, Amaya." He smiled, his wolfish grin making her smile back.
She was wearing a casual fit, with ballerina flats on her feet. Jeans, a white top, and her long hair in a ponytail.
"Morning, Romeo."
The silence after that was awkward and Romeo couldn't help but chuckle awkwardly. "do you want a coffee?" he offered trying to break the silence.
"Umm… do you have hazelnut?"
Romeo chuckled again and stood from his spot. "Yeah, I also have French vanilla." He looked at her with a smile, and Amaya couldn't help but blush. "Ok, then yeah I'll take a coffee."
He reached the kitchen and handed her a mug, the tension in the air was still there, and the two didn't know why.
"So, umm… what's the plan for today, Romeo?" She took the mug from him as he poured coffee in it, he handed her some sweetener and creamer, and Amaya quickly made to finish making her coffee. She liked it light, and creamy, opposite of him, who liked it strong and bitter.
"I'm glad you asked actually, I'd like to take you to work with me today, if that's something you'd like. I have to check on some progress of cells I left in the lab 3 months ago."
Amaya nodded as she sipped on the warm coffee, she went to sit on the kitchen table and Romeo followed her, this felt a little intimate to him, but he was beginning to like having someone to talk to so early in the morning. With a flick of his phone screen, the television went off. Maybe now that Amaya was here he didn't have to be focused on the news so much, he figured, now, that he had that custom because he used to be alone, he wasn't anymore.
"After work, I wanted to drive you to campus, you know so you could familiarize yourself with the university, and maybe look around, see if you're going to be comfortable?" he offered. Amaya looked at him and she nodded, she like the idea, it could be fun.
Her brown eyes darted to the little smoke that evaporated from the warm coffee mug, and she looked lost in thought. "Romeo?"
This caught his attention. His blue eyes were on the thoughtful girl and he furrowed his brows, "yeah?"
"Will your ex-girlfriend be there?" she still looked lost in thought.
He nodded, his expression was now solemn, "I'm pretty sure she will be, why though?" he was slightly curious.
"Will she be a problem?" her brown eyes were now on his blue ones, and she couldn't help but admire his handsome features.
"I'll make sure she isn't." His voice was thick and serious, it rumbled deep, and Amaya almost felt a shiver down her spine. The girl was slightly terrified of the whole situation, that phone call she had intercepted not so long ago made Amaya know that Anna wasn't playing around when it came to her feelings for Romeo. To Amaya, it felt more like an obsession than love. Amaya sighed, her eyes lost in her coffee mug.
Romeo took notice of this and his warm hand landed on hers, "don't worry, I promise I won't let things get out of hand, I'm here to protect you, not put you in danger. Anna may be crazy, but over my dead body will I let her be aggressive towards you." He had that smile again, that smile that made her heart flutter.
"Thanks, Romeo." She smiled softly back, and she didn't pull her hand away from his, this felt comfortable, this felt right.
Their eyes locked and a small flash of *something* came before them. Romeo slowly pulled away and he cleared his throat. Amaya looked away and she pressed her lips together, this little arrangement was making her feel her emotions all over the place.
Amaya was the first to speak, "I should probably… umm, call home… I haven't talked to my parents or Conner, or Greg, since coming here…" she blushed a little as she pulled out her phone from her back pocket, "Is that ok with you, Romeo?" she smiled awkwardly.
The young man smiled, "by all means, go for it. I'll start up the car… we can head out as soon as your finished with the phone calls." He stood and nodded, walking over to the sink, and washing the mug before putting it to air dry on the rack.
Amaya looked at him and drank the rest of her coffee and did the same with her mug. "I'll be right out in a bit."
Romeo's eyes lingered on her for a few more seconds before he began towards the living room to fetch his car keys, "Alright." He smiled as he walked out to the driveway were his car was.
Amaya stayed back, her lips pressed together. She was slightly nervous about this whole ordeal. The idea of actually doing all of this, to build a career, and see it firsthand was in itself amazing, but it was scary too. She sighed and leaned against the kitchen sink and quickly searched for her friends phone numbers, she texted them in a group chat, 'hey guys! Just checking in on you! I'm going on my very first adventure today! Kind of nervous but also excited! I'll send selfies!' She didn't expect a reply, there was a 2 hour difference between the states. Amaya nodded to herself and looked for her moms phone number, she heard it ring a couple of times until it sent her to voicemail. She decided to try again at a later hour and hung up. Without more thinking, Amaya rushed out towards the driveway.
The red car had it's lights on, and Romeo was sitting in the driver's seat with his seat belt already buckled up, he was smiling and ready to go. She locked the door behind her, and she walked down the cement driveway, all the way to the car. She felt her stomach full of butterflies, and she mounted the car, Amaya pulled on the seat belt and looked to Romeo.
Said man smiled back at her, his mood light. "We're you able to talk to your friends and family?"
Amaya shook her head, "I think it's a little early still back home." She returned his good mood. "What has you in such a great mood, Mr. Mecano?" She eyed him with a teasing smile and he chuckled, that thick amusing chuckle of his that made her spine tingle. "Hmm?" She offered again as she adjusted the seat belt.
"I'm just in a good mood, it's all."
Amaya couldn't help a blush and she pressed her lips together.
Romeo smirked, "so, what do you want for breakfast?"
Greg woke to the sound of his alarm, he groaned loudly as he looked over at his phone, he hated mornings, that's why he had been a PJ mask. He hated mornings, he was sure no one in their right mind liked them.
The blond stretched in his bed as he held his phone in his hand. He read Amaya's text messages and he smiled, his friend was off to bigger and better things. He felt a sense of pride well inside him. Amaya had been his and Conner's best friend since they were in diapers. God, he missed her already…
'Go get 'em!' he texted back, 'send as many photos as you can!'
'changing subject, home coming's around the corner, I wish you could be here, it's going to be good! Hurry back!'
Greg smiled as he texted this and he got up from bed readying himself for the day ahead, it was the typical, school, soccer, Luna, Conner, double dates, but it felt empty. Even if it was a good thing, Amaya was missing. She had always been there, through thick and thin, for better or for worse. He chuckled at himself for thinking of it like that. But it was true, Amaya was an essential piece of his life. He just wished that she was happy and doing ok.
Romeo was fuming, Amaya was slightly terrified, and the girl standing behind of Romeo's car only made it worse.
"God dammit, Anna!" Romeo looked angry as he undid his seat belt, Amaya was sitting on the passenger seat holding on tightly to the seat belt against her chest. She had a solemn expression and she couldn't help her beating heart. Romeo's previous good mood had evaporated when he had tried to put his car in reverse and it hadn't moved. The two had been surprised to find said woman standing behind the car, and now she had dramatically hugged onto the trunk.
Romeo held an aggressive look on his face, and to be frank he looked quite scary. "What do you think you're doing, Anna!?"
Said woman was clinging on to his car trunk, she had come out of nowhere really, and stopped Romeo's car from backing up down his driveway.
Romeo looked at her angrily, and Amaya could hear him from her spot inside the car.
"Do you think this is going to change anything, Anna!? You're making a fool out of yourself!" Romeo sounded angry. "What are you doing here anyways!?"
Anna looked at Romeo, her emerald green eyes on his cold blue ones, she was hugging onto the car trunk stopping the car from backing up, she didn't plan to move.
"I text you last night, I told you I would be here!"
Romeo shook his head, his brows furrowing. "This is ridiculous, Anna! Get out of the way, you're going to make me late for work!"
Anna looked towards the inside of the car, "is that the woman you left me for!? You have her living here with you, now!? What about US!?"
Romeo sighed and shook his head, his hand going through his perfectly fluffed hair. "I already told you there is no us anymore, who I have living with me is no longer your concern!"
Anna shook her head, "you had asked me to marry you, Romeo!" Anna couldn't believe this, he was already moving on.
The young scientist looked at his watch, it was well passed 5:30 A.M. "look, Anna… please get out of the way, I'm going to be late to work, and you are too."
The strawberry haired woman shook her head, her curls bouncing as she did so. "I'm not moving away until you and I are back together, and you get rid of that girl that's in your car!"
"First of all, we're not going to do that. Second, Amaya stays, whether you like it or not. She has nothing to do with you, Anna. Now please step aside, and let me drive to work." He was trying to stay level headed, but this woman was making it difficult. He had known that Anna was going to pull a stunt like this.
Anna yelled again, her curls moving as she did so, this time viciously, "no!" Tears began down her emerald eyes. "Romeo, I'll undo the tubal! Please, don't leave me, not like this!"
Amaya pressed her lips together as she heard the commotion, her eyes were to the scene and she could see it in Romeo that he was completely done with the whole situation. She tightened her grip on the seat belt, she really didn't want anything to do with this, but it seemed that this Anna woman was much more desperate than she had initially thought. Romeo wasn't exaggerating when he had explained his situation to her. Now she knew why he had gotten so worked up last time when she had picked up his phone call from Anna.
"Nooo!" Anna yelled with a raspy tone still clung onto the trunk of the car, "I love you! I really love you!"
Amaya felt second hand embarrassment for Anna, she didn't know what to make of all of this.
Romeo shook his head and looked at the woman as she was on her knees hugging the trunk of his car. She refused to let go, and it was stressing him. He was going to be late for work because of her. He walked back to the driver seat and closed the door angrily. He didn't want to physically force her off the car, so he just sat in the driver's seat with his head on the steering wheel.
Amaya had a worried expression on her face, and she turned back to look at Anna still crying as she hugged the trunk of the car, yelling out Romeo's name. "Umm, is she going to… not let us go to your job?"
Romeo didn't answer for a while, his head resting against the steering wheel, he was frustrated at the woman, and he felt embarrassed by all of this. He hated that out of all the things, Anna had to make a scene, right in front of Amaya. On day one after their arrival to Knightsfairy.
Romeo slowly turned to Amaya, his blue eyes looking tired already, "I'm sorry about all of this." He spoke with a stressed tone, and Amaya could see it in him that he was truly embarrassed.
Her brown eyes turned back to the trunk, and she could see the woman's head leaning against the car trunk as she yelled out Romeo's name. "What do we do?"
