The Forgotten Chieftain's Wife Chapter 30

The entire Stormwind military is mobilized and ready for battle. A suitable number of soldiers mustered will remain behind in their military might to sustain proper defenses around the city in order to protect the people.

Everyone is set on edge.

With the Guardian on their side now there is a new added confidence with Medivh openly going to be supporting them into battle with his newly restored strength.

Suffice to say, even with smaller numbers than the enemy, the added rebellion Medivh says the Orc Durotan is mustering encourages them even more.

Literally all the citizens in Stormwind are lining the streets to bid farewell to the King and the brave troops that'll follow him into war.

At the main gates, standing on a hastily erected dais is Queen Taria and their children Princess Adariall and Prince Varian. The children are both trying to appear strong, brave, and dignified, but the knowledge that their father might not return from this fight weighs heavily on them.

"There's no other man I would entrust the safety of my family to, Varian," said Llane, softly, giving his son a task, he can be proud of. "Keep them safe while I'm gone."

Varian's chin quivers ever so slightly, but he nods his head vigorously, taking it to heart.

Llane then turns his attention to Taria. The two lock eyes, no words needing to be spoken because of the heightened emotions shared between them.

Bringing his horse alongside Llane's breaking the touching moment, Medivh said "Ready?"

Grimly, Llane admits "I would feel better if Lothar were riding with us."

Smiling reassuringly, Medivh said "We'll be fine. I will return to Karazhan, get ready for battle. Find me at the portal."

"Go," directed Llane.

Just as Medivh is about to ride away, at the same time, the unexpected occurs.

Out of nowhere a sentry on the wall above the gates, shouts "Riders approaching!"

All attention snap toward the road outside the gates.

Squinting his eyes Llane can make out two people riding hard and fast for Stormwind and a third mount that is riderless trailing close behind carrying heavy baggage on its back.

As they get closer and closer Llane is shocked to find that the steeds aren't horses. They're wolves. Giant wolves. Which means only one thing.

Orcs.

An alarm goes off as word quickly spreads that Orcs are making their way for the main gates. Soldiers mobilize their weapons, preparing to aim and fire at them.

But there's no need for panic.

Llane quickly identifies the rider at the head. He'd know her anywhere.

"Stop! Do not fire! Save your arrows! Let them through," shouted Llane.

The soldiers on the wall, though confused, comply.

The answer as to why is immediately made clear.

Lyanna and Draka burst inside riding their wolves. The very moment they are inside the two pull the wolves to a stop. Midnight and Ice literally collapse onto their stomachs. They'd run hard and nonstop since fleeing from the Horde. Lyanna and Draka too are so very tired. The journey has taken a lot out of them, but they successful managed to avoid any of the orc's Gul'dan might've sent after them. No way any of them would risk traveling this far away from the Horde without backup. The women are completely burned out, not once taking the chance to stop and take short breaks in order to bypass them.

"Lyanna," exclaimed Llane, shifting his mount over to her side.

Raising her head from its bowed position over Midnight's neck, Go'el cooing and babbling in the basket on her back, Lyanna panted "Llane."

As brother and sister exchange a quick embrace word travels through the crowd that the Princess Lyanna has finally returned home. Also, there is partial unrest as people lay unsettled eyes on Draka.

Spotting the potential hostile reception, Lyanna called "Don't. She's not a threat. Her name is Draka. She's with me!"

"Stand down," added Llane.

Those listening begrudgingly lower their weapons.

Cupping her cheek, Llane said "I'm so happy to see you escaped the ambush. Many of us feared you had perished."

"I wouldn't have made it out if not for Draka. It's thanks to her my son and I made it here in one piece," said Lyanna.

Speaking to Draka, Llane said "Thank you."

"She is my Chieftain's wife and my friend," said Draka.

"We were just about to head out on our way to the enemy camp to merge our forces with Durotan's rebellion," said Llane.

"What," said Lyanna, baffled. "Rebellion? What rebellion?"

"The one your husband is gaining strength for. We've been informed that Durotan has been recruiting added support since the rendezvous," clarified Llane.

Shaking her head in denial, Lyanna said "There is no rebellion. Right after the ambush Durotan was taken prisoner for treason by Gul'dan and the Frostwolf Clan was massacred. Draka and I are two of the few lucky ones to get away. Last time I spoke to Durotan, he told me he was going to challenge Gul'dan to single combat by himself."

"But…Medivh…," said Llane, wheeling around on his stallion to face the blank-faced Guardian. "Medivh, you said you spoke to Durotan not even a half day passed. Yet Lyanna reports differently."

"That's because he's lying," declared Khadgar, riding down from the sky on a royal gryphon onto the road. "I've just been to the Kirin Tor! They've confirmed that Medivh has been poisoned by the Fel's influence! The Guardian is the reason why the Orcs have invaded Azeroth! He invited them in!"

"Explain yourself, Medivh," demands Llane, furiously.

No need for Medivh to pretend. The jig is up.

In front of everyone's eyes Medivh transforms, unveiling his true self at long last, tossing aside the act he's been playing. Any excuses he might've had ready in preparation for this in his deceit are irrelevant now.

Medivh's face becomes unrecognizable. Deep lines that are similar to cracks in marble covering every inch of his facial features. His beard is completely replaced by lines of small, downward-jutting horns. And the Guardian's eyes are pitch black to the core.

"You should've perished under Gul'dan's hand all those years ago," rasped Medivh, coldly, viciously glowering emerald eyes at Lyanna in resentment.

Lyanna's stomach jolts, she and Llane exchanging a horrified glance as they reach the same conclusion.

Medivh…he's the one who kidnapped and handed over to Gul'dan at her disappearance that fateful day.

Before anyone can even think of making a move to stop him Medivh summoned his magic to teleport out of there directly to Karazhan.

But the burst of power that spread from his departure isn't blue from the magical energy that flows through Azeroth. No, it is green with the Fel.

No further proof is required to show Medivh's allegiances anymore.

There's a major pause that follows. An uncomfortable silence that shows hardly anyone can register what just happened directly in front of them.

"Khadgar," said Llane, stone-faced.

Stepping forward, Khadgar said "Yes, Your Majesty."

"Have Lothar released from his cell immediately. Khadgar, you and Lothar will immediately travel to Karazhan and subdue Medivh. If he opens the portal for Gul'dan then all is lost for us. This is an order from your King," commanded Llane, decisively, his tone brook no argument.

Lyanna can tell it took an immense effort for Llane to even voice such an order despite his own personal reservations in play. He's barely managing to keep his composure upon them all realizing that not only has the Guardian betrayed them, but someone he always considered a close friend is the very reason why his beloved sister vanished years before and underwent such hardships she never should've gone through originally in the first place.

But with Medivh outed so openly and the fact he basically revealed his use of the fel in front of all of them he has no other alternative but to accept all the evidence instead of refuting it.

Llane is certainly handling it a whole lot better than the citizens of Azeroth that always viewed the Guardian as their protector, not destroyer.

If Medivh can be saved from himself, it'll be a hell of a long time before his reputation can recover from this upset.

Nodding respectfully, partially mollified and solemn from the confirmation his suspicions were actually correct all along, Khadgar said "It shall be done, My King."

Khadgar then runs off to retrieve Lothar in these dire straits.

Turning toward his deeply perturbed sister and her friend, softening slightly, Llane said "Remain her in Stormwind at the palace for when I return. Inform your friend that she has sanctuary here. For the risk she has taken in getting you here no one will harm her on my order."

Exhaling in relief, Lyanna said "Thank you, Brother. I will tell her this." Lyanna then turns her face toward Garona beside her brother. "Garona, protect him. Bring my brother back to me."

"I will," said Garona, reaching over to clasp wrists with her.

There can be no more delay. Even against the increased insurmountable odds staked up in disfavor at them.

"Forward," boomed Llane, looking straight ahead, struggling not to appear disheartened by a close friend's betrayal.

The river of cavalry and foot soldiers march in disciplined unison after their King.

This must work. They must succeed or all their lives are forfeit.

Authors Note:

Heads up everyone there's someone on fanfiction you need to seriously watch out for. Early a couple of days ago after I woke up I was checking my email and I saw I had a new guest review on my A Dog's Purpose Is Strange Magic 2 sequel. I took a look at it and got a very big shock. Some random person I've never spoken to before on here or anywhere else in my life was basically threatening me. Intimidating and practically ordering me to write a threatening letter to someone on their behalf, telling to stay off of for life or else they and everyone else close to them would be killed, disgustingly telling them to kill themselves. And at the bottom of the message this crazy person wasn't done. Warning me that if I don't send the letter then they would kill me and for confirmation to email them to make absolutely sure I complied with their demands. Of course I did nothing of the sort. Instead of doing what they wanted I reported them to the website, sent copies of this deplorable guest review message to police officer cousins of mine so they could have it on file, and I went to a nearby police station and reported it.

When I spoke to the police officers and they checked everything on the message they saw, that while the address and names of business were accurate the people and their names were not. They agree it was more than likely a scam because of the email address on the bottom in order to perhaps get access to personal information or potentially hack my computer. Despite that I'm still very happy they took it seriously as I showed and told them everything. All the same I'm still very happy that I brought this to the attention of law enforcement. Even though the entire thing might be fake I'm still very happy to have brought this to the attention of those who can do something about it if it was legit in some way. This may have been a scam, but it's obvious these people are beyond irresponsible if they try to goad people into sending death threats to random strangers just to get access to info.

Be that as it may if this does unfortunately happen to you do not send any messages to the email addresses they put down and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you bring the message to the authorities immediately whether it is legit or not.

Because it's a guest review it might not be visible for a couple of days as it loads if it is sent to you. But when it does you should definitely pressing the report abuse button and send it to the email that leads to the support staff that is available.

Just a heads up to those of you who aren't aware of this yet, Email alerts for this website are now only active if Email opts is enabled in account settings.

I hope you all like this one! I certainly did while writing it for your vast enjoyment! ;D

For those of you just starting out with my stuff there are other works on my profile that may catch your interest. I highly recommend you take a look as soon as the opportunity presents itself to you. Who knows, you may be pleasantly surprised by what you discover.

Stay safe everyone. Especially with all of these crazy natural disasters occurring a lot lately due to global warming and climate change everywhere for sure. I swear it's like they're getting worse and worse all the time and it's like officials are simply just ignoring it or pretending it doesn't exist entirely just to go on with their daily lives. Especially those in multi-million dollar companies that rely on certain elements of our planet that we rely on to naturally keep us safe instead of adapting and finding new safer ways to keep in business. There are so many options out there where they can adapt, but they just refuse to see it because all they care about is money. Climate change is altering so much faster than anyone can really keep track of.

So, in light of all this, it is important to live life to the fullest as much as anyone can.

I know I am. ;) See you guys next time.
