Summary : What if the high-profile assassin, Zen'in Toji, was reincarnated in the world of heroes and villains? He who is never bound by the value of right or wrong, has to adapt in a world where justice is only divided into black and white. This is the story about one of the worst sinners ever, the story about Toji doing Toji's things as Yaoyorozu Toji.
Chapter 5: The Assassins.
—OoOoO—
His meeting with Naobito a few days ago left a lot of questions in Toji's mind. Naobito did explain clearly what he was doing and the potential for chaos in the future. However, beyond that, he didn't say the extent of the involvement of the jujutsu association he founded with the hero association.
In his past life, the Japanese association of jujutsu sorcerers strongly involved the Japanese government and several other elite people. However, in this world, Toji didn't have the slightest information about the sorcerer association's involvement with the government or hero group.
He could indeed have asked Naobito. However, he came from a sorcerer clan himself and understood how their system worked very well. Even though Naobito had changed, he was still a jujutsu sorcerer. To them, equivalent exchange was the price that had to be paid if someone wanted to use the services of sorcerers or was simply looking for information. Considering this, Toji didn't buy any information from them because he didn't know what price they would ask.
Therefore, from that day on, Toji started his own investigation. He wasn't doing any on-the-ground investigations, or at least, he wasn't at that stage yet. Doing an independent investigation was difficult, especially since he sought information about sorcerers and cursed spirits. However, as someone involved with that cursed world, Toji certainly had his own approach to uncovering the truth.
"How could I have missed such an event?" muttered Toji, sitting in front of his computer.
These days, Toji spent much time in his room facing the computer all day.
His eyes were currently focused on every word presented in an article. The article contained a mysterious fire incident in a district near Mount Sakurajima. That news went viral a few weeks ago, even Toji knew about it. Still, since he previously thought jujutsu sorcery didn't exist in this world, he only thought that the event was caused by a group of villains or something.
But, after he read news of the conflagration from various sources, Toji didn't think it was human-caused.
"All eyewitnesses say the fire originated from a huge flame explosion. However, after investigating from various CCTVs that were not charred, there were no suspicious people around the location."
Despite being across from Kagoshima City, the area around Mount Sakurajima was pretty rural. So, if suspicious people were there, it would be easier to track them down. However, based on the testimony of residents who survived the great fire, the explosion seemed to have been created from nothing.
"It must be a cursed spirit," Toji guessed, "But very few humans have cursed energy in this world. Thus, there was no way the cursed energy leaking from them could create a cursed spirit with such a strong output. In other words, this cursed spirit must have just come from my world."
A notification sound came from Toji's speaker. He immediately clicked on the 'x' symbol of the tab he had just opened. A window that wasn't full-screen size appeared on his monitor. The window displayed a web that contained a lot of anonymous conversations. And in another column, a conversation between Toji and another person used anonymous accounts.
'I got what you asked,' was the message written there with a file.
Toji pointed his fingers to the keyboard and replied.
'I'll pay for the rest after checking the data.'
'I guarantee everything is authentic, but whatever. Anyway, just watch out if you don't pay the rest.'
Toji ignored the message and just downloaded the file.
He was aware of the risks of trading in such a place. He knew this file may contain a virus that could embed a "backdoor" into his computer so the virus planter could access his computer remotely.
However, Toji didn't trade on such a forum without preparation. The computer already contained various kinds of antivirus and VPN. It was a particular computer he used to access such forums. There were no files on the computer. In fact, it was only connected to his anonymous email. That way, if anyone were to access his computer through some "backdoor" program, they would find nothing.
His internet was also different from the wifi installed at his house, so his IP was different from his family's other devices. Not to mention that he used a special browser and a VPN. The window screen he used was not in maximise mode, so they wouldn't know his computer's screen resolution.
In essence, even though Toji wasn't an expert in the IT field, at least he knew how to prevent unexpected things if his computer was hacked.
After finishing downloading the file, Toji immediately opened it. The file was in pdf format, displaying various biodata and pass photos.
"It's less than I thought," Toji said after looking at the page count, "Even so, I still need a few hours to go through everything."
What Toji read weren't profiles of jujutsu sorcerers in the association or anything like that. From the start, finding their identity was nearly impossible. He had previously tried looking for their whereabouts on the black market, but no one had ever heard of jujutsu sorcerers.
Since no one in the underworld knew about sorcerers or other supernatural phenomena, it was inevitable that their involvement in this world was still well-hidden.
As such, Toji changed his method. Instead of investigating the jujutsu sorcerer association, he tried another approach. Therefore, he bought the information containing those biodata from the black market. The information was about any heroes directly involved with the Japanese government and the Hero Public Safety Commission.
"It would be better if the broker also had statistics on how high the percentage of these clowns accept requests from the government."
The Hero Public Safety Commission—HPSC—was the organisation to which heroes refer by law. They had the right to directly investigate exceptional cases. Together with the Japanese government, the organisation maintained harmonious relations between heroes and civil society and provided a sense of security for the community.
'Sense of security' was what Toji underlined.
Toji used to work as an assassin. He might not always took a job and even retired for a few years before his death. However, above all, he never discriminated against his clients or targets. Whether it was sorcerers, mortals, state officials, children, old people, and such, he wouldn't hesitate to kill them all as long as the deal was made.
Toji was what they call a private assassin. He was free to choose his clients and targets. However, if there were private assassins like him, there would be assassins tied to a company or even a government.
The difference between the two was easy to recognise. Those who only killed for money were assassins of the same kind as Toji. Meanwhile, state-affiliated assassins were the intelligence agencies of the country itself. The FBI, CIA, and even the police could be used for assassination needs.
"Keigo Takami. Hero's name, Hawks. He's fast and has great mobility. His face also shows no qualms about killing his opponent when necessary."
Then, what about this world? In this world where everyone had superpowers? Ordinary police or intelligence agencies wouldn't be enough to carry out assassination missions, considering there was a possibility that bodyguards or even targets could use their powers.
That way, those with super power were the ones who acted as assassins in this world. For the Japanese government and the HPSC, who try to maintain security and always provide a sense of security, "heroes" were a good tool for their dirty work.
"Endeavor? He's Fuyumi-san's father, right? He may look like a ruffian but is too conspicuous for assassination."
Even though civil society was too complacent about the peace supported by thin ice, Toji believed state officials were not that naive. They did have heroes that were used to maintain peace on the surface. However, there were other clusters that these heroes couldn't handle.
In other words, those who did the dirty work must also have state secrets that others didn't know.
'If the jujutsu sorcerer association, or cursed energy in general, is part of a state secret, these assassins disguised as heroes should've known about it.'
That was what Toji thought.
However, the problem was that the information he had wasn't the information of the assassins. He only read information about heroes who interacted highly with the HPSC and the government. So, he could only guess which one could act as an assassin and which one wasn't based on his experience. Even after that, he still had to select which hero the HPSC and the government used the most.
Three hours had passed, and Toji didn't realise how long he had been cooped up in his room. If there hadn't been a 'blam' heard from the slamming of his room door, Toji probably wouldn't have taken his eyes off the monitor in the slightest.
"Toji-kun, it's time for dinner!" said Momo from the doorway, "And Mom wants to talk to you. She says there's a video of you bullying an old man on the street. Are you causing trouble again?"
Toji snorted at the question.
"Go ahead. I'll catch up after turning off my computer."
Momo nodded and then left her brother. Seeing that, Toji looked back at his monitor, which now displayed a woman's bio. Based on the photo, she was a beautiful woman. She had wonderful long hair in a ponytail. The dark blue and pink streaks across her hair make her look even more exotic.
Her eyes were sharp, intense and mesmerising. The dark purple pupils this woman had seemed to give the feeling that you were stalked by a predator from the sky.
Before Toji closed the file, he saw the woman's quirk.
"Rifle, huh?" muttered Toji with a wide grin.
—OoOoO—
A few days later
"Yaoyorozu Toji, which one of you is Yaoyorozu Toji?"
A man with long black hair and a crumpled face was in a field within the UA Academy grounds. He was wearing all black and a unique made scarf.
Meanwhile, the teenagers before him who were sitting on the grass were wearing dark blue tracksuits. The uniform had a short-sleeved shirt with long pants. A white "U" pattern from the collar to the chest and then an "A" on the shirt down to the trousers.
"No one answered?" asked the man.
After a few seconds of silence, he spoke again.
"Then Yaoyorozu Momo, could you please stand up?"
Momo flinched slightly when her name was called, but she couldn't do anything but curse the situation and her twin. Reluctantly, Momo followed her teacher's order, who must be angry right now.
"Yaoyorozu Toji, he is your twin, right? Where is he?"
Momo swallowed and replied, "In advance, please forgive me, Aizawa-sensei. For Toji-kun, well…, I guess… you could call it… ditching?"
A crossroad appeared at the temple of the teacher named Aizawa. He gritted his teeth to contain his anger. In his teaching career, he first encountered a student who blatantly skipped school on his first day.
The other students who heard Momo's explanation were less surprised than their teacher. More than that, they didn't even believe that someone as diligent and friendly as Momo had a twin who skipped school on his first day.
Realising her teacher's reaction, Momo immediately bowed deeply.
"I know what my brother did was not a commendable act. However, please forgive Toji-kun just this one time. Toji-kun is actually a good kid, he doesn't like bullying his friends either, and he's quite friendly."
Hearing Momo's defence, all 1-A students agreed on one thing.
'So, he is problematic, tends to bully people, and is fierce, right?'
UA Academy was an elite school with a curriculum that was very different from others. As a teacher, he had the authority to expel students at will. Even though he looked like a slacker, he really didn't like people who were not disciplined. And as for this Toji, he wanted to kick him out immediately.
However, due to a mutual agreement with one of his co-workers, Aizawa had to endure it for now. Still, that didn't mean he wouldn't get him out. If he couldn't do that because of a promise he made, he could bring up the behaviour of that boy to the entire staff and ask the headmaster to take strict action.
"I'll pass this on to the headmaster and let him judge, However, don't expect much, as he might not be able to set foot here again tomorrow."
Momo's face paled at that. She wanted to stand up for her brother but realised she could do nothing.
"I understand, Aizawa-sensei. Thank you so much."
—OoOoO—
UA Academy was an elite school that had a heroic education base. Not only was it the number one school in Japan, but UA was also one of the best schools in the world. Even though it followed the curriculum set by the government as a reference, UA also had their own curriculum, so this school always maintained the best title every year.
However, those were just a few reasons why UA Academy was named the best among the best. The curriculum was just an instrument that helped and provided learning to their students. Basically, the main factor was the hard work of the entire staff. At least once a week, the teachers and staff would always hold an evaluation meeting.
In fact, when the first day was over, all the teachers and staff gathered in the meeting room and took their seats.
"That's my report for today. Thus, I recommend expelling Yaoyorozu Toji from school."
Those in the room had different thoughts about the situation experienced by the homeroom teacher of class 1-A, Aizawa Shouta. Aizawa was indeed known as a strict teacher and even expelled his students because they didn't meet his set standards.
However, the current situation was slightly different.
"I understand the reason you expelled your students, Aizawa-san. However, Yaoyorozu-kun is different. His abilities exceeded all of our expectations. The only thing he lacks is manners. And I don't think we can kick him out for that reason."
The one giving the rebuttal was a pale blonde-haired man. His name was Nanami Kento. He was a hero who didn't like being scrutinised by the media and didn't wear weird clothes like most heroes.
The man wore a blue shirt covered with a tan blazer, which matched the colour of his pants. The firm contours of his face make him look charismatic. But that man wore unique glasses that sometimes make people wonder, how did that not fall off his face?
"UA is a place for them to learn how to be heroes. If he doesn't have a sense of responsibility towards his education, how can he take responsibility as a hero?" he said
'That's right! Just drive him away!'
That's what Nanami actually wanted to say.
Nanami Kento, a 24-year-old hero who had very high effectiveness in every action. He was dubbed a genius because of his prowess in various ways. However, in this school, no one knew his true identity was a jujutsu sorcerer from another world.
"That's the point. Because this place is a place of study, we can't just throw away Yaoyorozu Toji," replied Nanami.
Nanami worked as a teacher at UA, not without reason. He belonged to the Japanese Jujutsu Sorcerers Association, currently led by Zen'in Naobito. His primary mission was to collect all information owned by the Hero Public Safety Commission, or HPSC.
Since the HPSC headquarters was in Musutafu and UA Academy was the closest institution to them, Nanami decided to infiltrate it as a teacher a few years ago.
As a human from a completely different world, Nanami certainly knew the true identity of Yaoyorozu Toji. His first encounter was during the Shibuya incident, which ended his career as a jujutsu sorcerer, or so he used to think.
Nanami didn't know Toji personally. He had never even seen his face before the Shibuya incident. However, after he was reincarnated into this world and met Naobito and some of his acquaintances from his old world. He came to know what kind of person Zen'in Toji was. But he knew Toji was responsible for the chaos and the only one who almost managed to kill Gojo Satoru.
Therefore, when he saw that Toji was also reincarnated, Nanami only wanted to kick that person away.
Toji was a real threat. His strength wasn't something that a group of first-grade sorcerers could overcome on a whim. He was the one who single-handedly almost killed Gojo Satoru and defeated Geto Suguru. Nanami didn't know whether the current Toji had reached his prime. However, whatever it was, he thought that getting rid of Toji had to be done immediately.
However, after he said that to Naobito, the old man thought otherwise. Toji could be a threat, but he could also be a powerful ally. Because of that, Nanami's current mission had increased by one: keeping Toji under his supervision.
"I agree with Nanami-kun," said the principal, who looked like a white rat, "As I've said, he has extraordinary talent. It might be difficult to educate him, but we can raise awareness of the importance of being responsible to Yaoyorozu-kun. Besides, it worries me if such a talent would end up falling into the wrong hands if we let him out now."
It didn't stop there. Now it was the turn of the crooked man with long blonde hair to speak.
"Yaoyorozu Toji, his twin sister is in the same class as him, right? I had time to find out how they were in junior high. Everyone answered that Toji Shounen was indeed scary, but he really cared about his sister. So, I don't think he's an irresponsible child. He actually knew what his responsibility was. It's just, we need to develop his sense of empathy for others so he can become a good hero."
Aizawa felt pressured when All Might was on the side that refused to expel Yaoyorozu Toji. All Might may has just started teaching this year, but his legend as number one made him a solid voice wherever he was.
It wasn't like Aizawa hated Toji or anything. Aizawa was an adult with careful thought. Because of that, he knew facing a delinquent like Toji must take a lot of energy out of him.
Aizawa turned to Nanami sitting beside him and stared at the blonde man closely.
"In that case, how about transferring Yaoyorozu Toji to your class, Nanami?"
"Unfortunately, I've to say no. Even though my class looks full of model students, I also have some problematic children," Nanami said firmly.
Aizawa just stared at him flatly while Nanami tried to ignore him.
"You talk about educating him, but you're also reluctant to take care of this brat yourself, aren't you?" asked the man in all black with a sigh.
"I'm glad you understand, Aizawa-san."
Both of them sighed together. Meanwhile, all the staff at this time looked at the two teachers with gazes that were difficult to interpret. They may look different, but they were the same, pragmatists who didn't want to get involved with troublesome things.
—OoOoO—
Hero was a profession that many people dream of. It was a job that brought instant wealth and glory. Being a role model was an honour and privilege for this profession. However, once you became a part of it and dove deeper into it, you would find that the hero who was often revered was little more than a tool for the elite.
'I hate this job.'
That was the heart's voice of a woman standing on the roof of a skyscraper in Yokohama. She was a tall woman with beautiful body proportions. The woman had long hair in a ponytail and a side part that framed her face up to her shoulders. The unique combination of purple and pink in her hair gave a different charm to that woman.
Her black body suit matched perfectly and blended in against the night's darkness. Her sharp purple irises stared at her prey nearly two kilometres from where she was.
As if shattered and formed a new shape, the woman's arm turned into a sniper rifle. But that was different from snipers in general. Instead of being attached at the top, the scope grew like a hose straight to her right eye.
That made her easy to aim for her target. All she needed was to stand on the guardrail, put the sniper's feet on the railing, and the scope would come close to her eye. Moreover, she didn't need a trigger to fire a bullet. In fact, she would never run out of those projectiles. She would never run out of ammo if she was willing and had sufficient stamina.
"Target locked. Kazuki Ito, the football mafia that controls the referee association," there was a pause before she continued, "If only you hadn't become the scum of this country, you wouldn't have met such a miserable death."
Fired bullets and killed the target in one shot. That was the plan. However, that was cancelled when she heard the baritone voice.
"An excuse because they are bad people and deserve to be killed... isn't that just to satisfy your heart so you don't feel guilty?"
The woman jumped and immediately turned to her right. She was shocked and immediately stepped away after noticing a tall, stocky man standing just a few metres away.
'What? Since when was he there? Moreover, he managed to sneak up behind me? Me?'
Tsutsumi Kaina. Hero's name, Lady Nagant. That was the woman's name. She was a pro hero and an assassin working for HPSC. She had struggled in the dark world for so long that her senses were well-trained. In fact, it wouldn't be an exaggeration if she had very high eyesight and sensitivity. Taking her entire training and experience into account, she couldn't miss so that someone could sneak up behind her.
"Relax, man. I'm just here to exchange a few words with you, Lady Nagant," said the man with a nonchalant smile.
However, Kaina paid no heed to those words. It was indeed her first experience of someone sneaking up behind her without noticing. But it wasn't the first time someone had interfered with her work. In fact, sometimes, she encountered obstacles and was forced to fight when she got misinformation or when her targets hired bodyguards.
"Who are you?" asked Kaina, aiming the muzzle of her rifle at the man.
"I've many names, but you can call me Toji. It's my pride."
Toji was silent for a moment while observing his interlocutor.
"You know, I actually like gentlewomen, but your cold face isn't bad either. However, you've to be careful where you aim your gun, Kaina-chan."
The woman cursed the man in her mind. She didn't like anyone getting close to her and hated people with disgusting mouths like him. Yet, didn't matter how her emotions were, she remained concerned in assessing the situation.
"Suddenly appeared next to me, and I guess you know my job, right? If anything, I am not wrong for pointing my gun at you."
"Well, actually I—."
Toji's words were cut short when he felt something moving quickly towards him. With incredible speed, Toji brought his right hand forward to catch something headed for his head. In the next second came the sound of an explosion from the rifle casing. However, because it had a sound damper, it didn't produce a loud sound.
"Seriously, you've got to be careful shooting a 50-calibre bullet at someone's head, you know?" said Toji, grinning.
The boy opened the grip of the hand he used to catch the bullet. Simultaneously, the projectile fell and made a metallic sound when it reached the roof's surface. A thin layer of smoke was seen billowing from Toji's right palm.
Meanwhile, Lady Nagant still hasn't recovered from the shock.
'You must be kidding me, right?! That was almost Mach 2, you know?! Moreover, he is at point-blank range, yet he caught it just like that?'
Toji snorted while looking at the woman tiredly.
"I didn't come here to fight, you know? I'm not part of your target either. But, if you choose the hard way, I won't hesitate with you."
Hearing the warning, Kaina immediately took alert steps and jumped a few steps back. However, she realised something was aiming at her head. She tilted her head to the side, letting the projectile pass her.
Kaina took the time to look behind, to see what had just come hurtling towards her. And she found a wall that cracked and formed a cavity, with a marble in the centre.
"Oh, you've better reflex than I imagined, apparently."
Kaina settled back to the front and looked at Toji fiercely.
'Superhuman strength, is it? He's not an easy one.'
A rifle was reconstructed in her right arm. This time she used a more oversized shape giving it more velocity.
'M82, huh? You've good taste,' thought Toji.
Lady Nagant aimed at Toji without using a scope.
However, Toji was much faster than one might think. He immediately closed their distance with just the blink of an eye. As a long-range fighter, Kaina immediately kept her rifle out of Toji's reach. However, the man deftly hit the weapon and destroyed it.
Not stopping there, Toji grabbed Kaina's right hand and broke her ulna and radius bones. Kaina winced in pain as the man could easily break her bones like rotten wood.
Toji was basically a ruthless man and a cold-blooded killer. He didn't hesitate to do whatever it took to increase his chances. With that, he circled around Kaina's back and grabbed her left arm.
Kaina cursed herself for being unable to keep up with Toji's agility and nimbleness. Even when she tried to shake off her left hand, the man's grip was too strong. Her worries became real when the 'crack' sound returned after Toji hit her left humerus using the side of his palm.
With that, it was complete. All of Kaina's weapons were automatically neutralised because she had lost control over both of her hands.
Behind her, Toji grabbed Kaina's face. With a strong beat, the man buried her head into the roof, creating a ten-centimetre-long crater.
Getting a hard impact on the back of her head knocked her out of consciousness for three seconds. His nose was heavily bleeding as a result. If it was untrained civilians, their lives would indeed be lost at such treatment. However, Kaina was more than just a pro hero. She was a trained soldier. The Association had turned her into a formidable assassin.
With panting breaths, Kaina saw Toji standing straight above her. The man looked at her with a condescending gaze and a disgusting grin. In his left hand, there was a gun that was very familiar to her.
'HK Mark 23?'
The outcome was clear in the moment of Kaina's helplessness and gunpoint. No, it was clear who would win from the start of their fight.
Kaina was a long-range fighter with a "sniper rifle" as her primary weapon. She also had a secondary weapon, which couldn't be used in this fight. Meanwhile, her opponent was Toji, a superhuman with physical strength, speed, agility, and reflexes far above her. In close-quarter combat, Toji was far superior to Kaina.
Kaina began to accept her fate. It could be better than constantly doing the dirty work as an HPSC stooge.
"Not the Dessert Eagle, but the Mark 23? I thought a muscle brain like you prefer a gun like a dessert eagle?" asked Kaina in a weak voice.
"That toy? It's only good for display rather than combat. Besides, it doesn't matter what gun it is as long as I get a headshot."
Kaina smiled faintly at that answer. As a sniper herself, she liked the answer and could relate. She closed her eyes for a few seconds before opening them again.
"You have good taste."
Toji grinned at the compliment.
"I know."
After the brief exchange of words, a pop sounded just as Toji pulled the trigger. The gunshot sound was a sign that today's work was over. However, that was not all. That was only the first phase of his entire plan to uncover the extent to which the cursed destiny of his world had taken root in this world.
—To Be Continued—
Author's Note: Hmmm... It's been a long time since I updated this story, lol. I'm sorry for the waiting. Well, actually I just updated this story on a whim because I saw JJK season 2. Seeing Toji on the screen made me want to write this again.
And for the readers and reviews. I know some of you don't like the idea of another character from JJK in the story. But then again, instead of expressing your disappointment with harsh words, it would be better to just walk away. I'm fine with opinions about your disliking my idea, but please convey them in kind. But yeah, I don't really mind it, tbh.
And since I'm continuing this on a whim, I can't guarantee when I'll continue. This fic is not my main project. So if I get stuck, I could continue one of my stories to refresh my brain. Or, you can subscribe to my patre0n. That way, you can submit a request, and I will seriously consider it.
That's all from me. Please support me by subscribing me to "patre0n.-com-/-akadaka" (please replace "0" to "o", and remove the "-".) I won't force you and I'm still continuing the story although you don't subscribe to me. But it'll help me a lot. Anyway, see you and stay safe.
