After failing a school inspection and putting his job in jeopardy, Phillip Frond has a breakdown. Faced with the prospect of someone even worse, it's up to the Belcher kids to inspire him in their own unique ways.

At nine years old, Louise Belcher is convinced the worst thing in life are school, her restaurant work, and the rest of the family's affinity for a certain sappy nineties movie. Little does she know that an unimaginable tragedy is about to strike her community. One that will forever bind her in a tragic way to the main character of her current least favorite movie.

The beautiful relationship between Louise and her daughter, Chelsea, is on the rocks after an argument with her husband, Rudy, accidentally reveals information that makes Chelsea question her relationship with her family. Louise must put the past behind her in order to reconcile with her daughter.
