A/N: Hi everyone! Here we are again, new stories with new horizons... As the description mentioned this is part of my 'Cursed Concepts' AU which consists of both a movie-verse AU (This one) and a show-verse AU (Currently called 'Show-Verse Cursed Concept' to prevent spoilers caused by the title), and there is an overview of what the whole of these Cursed Concepts is on my account page. I hope you all enjoy!
Wu paused on the rooftop. As usual, he had been searching the city for his nephew, but it appeared that mission had once again been interrupted.
On the other side of the roof, just a few paces away from the edge, was a tiny stick of a boy. Wu watched as the boy hesitantly stepped toward the edge, peering down at the streets below as he teetered for just a second.
Lunging, he barely managed to catch the child before he plummeted to his death. "Careful, child." He cautioned. "This is one of the tallest buildings in the city."
Unnaturally green eyes turned their terrified gaze upon him. Choppy blond hair framed the thin face. Scars trailed along any patches of skin visible, accompanied by scabs and bruises. Something about him looked much too old, especially since he was about the height of a five year old.
The second Wu let him go, the kid bolted and sprinted away from the ledge and down through the building. Wu followed, both curious and concerned about the boy. He appeared unaware of his tail as he raced down the stairs, giving anyone he noticed a wide berth. The few that noticed the child gave him a look that seemed almost disgusted, but Wu knew he had to be misinterpreting them or something. People didn't just hate random children.
Outside the building the streets were crowded with people walking and it was much harder to keep track of the kid. He finally caught sight of him again as the boy was being dragged into an alleyway by a group of teenagers. Ducking in after them, he saw two of the teens holding the struggling boy while the third reared back for a punch.
"STOP!" All four froze at Wu's command, staring at him in shock. "What do you think you're doing?!"
The one dropped his fist, giving Wu a slightly dubious look. "You must be new here, this is Garmadon's son. You know, the guy constantly attacking the city. Trust me, this kid deserves it!"
"What has he ever done?" Wu gestured to the kid, trying to hide his surge of emotions at finally finding his nephew, and at finding a bunch of teenagers trying to beat the kid up.
"His dad's Garmadon."
"And I am Wu, Garmadon's brother. Since when was relation a crime?"
"Wait, Wu, as in...?" When he nodded, all three stared at him in shock. Two of them started running immediately after they recovered, while the third stayed long enough to give a lame excuse before leaving. Old man and small child were left alone in the alleyway.
"It is nice to finally meet you," Wu paused, trying to recall the name he'd heard once or twice on the news. He should have listened to the news more. "Lloyd, right?"
His nephew nodded, shuffling his feet and glancing around, preparing to run again.
"I am your uncle. My name's Wu. Would it be alright if I walked you home? I'm not sure I want to leave you alone on such dangerous streets." He couldn't help glancing in the direction the teens had fled.
Lloyd shrugged slightly, still tense and defensive; but when prompted followed Wu out of the alleyway and led the way to his home.
*A switch to Lloyd's perspective as they approach the apartment complex*
The two crept silently down the hallway, heading towards the apartment door. Lloyd was still incredibly uncomfortable having someone follow him, but he was curious why this guy had saved him, and whether or not this guy was really his uncle. Plus, his mother was always significantly nicer when there was a guest around, as long as they weren't one of her friends.
He knocked on the door, stepping back immediately afterwards. His body was tense and prepared, and he felt the stranger's - Wu's - gaze upon him. Right before the door opened his eyes flicked to Wu, taking in his appearance.
"Lloyd!" Her voice was sharp, cracking down on him so hard even Wu flinched. Business as usual. "Where have you been, you ungrateful little-" her words faltered, hanging in the air alongside her hand as she spotted Wu just a little down the hall. "Who's this?" Her voice had dropped to a gentle purr as she dropped her hand to casually brush away an imaginary strand of her white-dyed hair.
"I am Wu Garmadon, Lloyd's uncle. I will admit, it has been awhile, Harumi." The name confirmed he wasn't one of her friends. But Lloyd had to wonder why his tone sounded so cold, especially since Wu didn't appear to be talking to him. Maybe it was secret code for something about him?
"Well, may I ask why you've decided to grace us with your presence?" She grabbed Lloyd's shoulder, squeezing hard enough to hurt. Lloyd bit back his wince.
"I simply came to ensure Lloyd got home safely. Although, I would like to get to know him better. Would it be alright if I pick him up after school?"
A smile found its way into her subtly-wrinkled face, although Lloyd could feel the animosity boiling beneath her skin as her nails dug into his skin. "Of course! I'm sure Lloyd would love to get to know his uncle!"
Wu gave a small nod, and Harumi watched as he walked away. Her grip loosened for just a second. Taking advantage of this, Lloyd tried to slip past her and into the room. He should have known better.
She grabbed his wrist, that all too familiar eager, yet angry look deep in her hazel irises. "Just where do you think you're going?"
Lloyd swallowed, wishing Wu hadn't stopped him earlier.
