Sweet Flirtations on the Island.
The day passed tediously for Sora, like an endless wait in his own terms. Each moment slowly faded away as his mind filled with thoughts about Aqua and which aspects of Destiny Islands would captivate her first. Should he take her to the hidden cave, or perhaps to the pier with its imposing ocean view? Or would it be better to take her to his favorite spot? Although the options were numerous, they seemed insufficient to Sora. He longed for Aqua to be amazed by Destiny Islands as much as he was when he discovered his home. Impatience consumed him, leading him to thoroughly explore every corner of the island, ensuring everything was impeccable and without any hiccups.
With a serene expression on his face, Sora whispered to himself with a radiant smile, "This is the fourth time I'm going around the island, and I think everything will be in perfect order when Aqua arrives." His voice, filled with confidence, resonated in the air as he stood in his sacred place, a sanctuary for both him and Kairi and Riku. It was a small island, connected by a delicate wooden bridge, featuring a slightly tilted palm tree, perfect for sitting and admiring the vast ocean.
The palm tree had witnessed countless moments of happiness shared between Sora, Kairi, and Riku since their childhood. Before twilight claimed the horizon, the three friends would often gather there, seeking the serenity of the sunset. In those moments, their worries faded away, and a sense of calm enveloped them.
As Sora lay back against the palm tree, his gaze shifted from the vast blue sky to a yellow fruit gracefully hanging from a branch. Gently, he stood up and took the fruit, plucking it carefully. Then, he sat back down and examined the star-shaped fruit he now held in his hand.
"I remember the first time I ate one of these," Sora said with a nostalgic smile.
Sora held the paopu fruit in his hands, an extraordinary fruit that only grew on the mysterious Destiny Islands. According to an ancient legend, if two people shared this fruit, their destinies would become intertwined inextricably. They would become essential parts of each other, no matter the adversities that came their way.
The memory of that moment when Sora and Kairi shared the paopu fruit flooded his mind. He vividly remembered how both of them believed they were destined to be together, that their love would bind them throughout eternity. However, reality had unfolded differently, proving that the legend was ultimately just that: a legend.
"It seems that legend was just... a mere illusion," Sora whispered with a mix of melancholy and acceptance. From a young age, he had firmly held the belief that he and Kairi were meant for each other, that their love transcended any obstacle or challenge. But circumstances had shown them that the path of destiny was complex and often uncertain.
Despite the disappointment that accompanied their discovery, Sora couldn't deny the love and special connection that still existed between him and Kairi. Although destiny hadn't brought them together in the way they had hoped, the bond they shared was undeniable. They had shared laughter, tears, and unforgettable adventures together, and those moments couldn't be easily erased.
With a resigned sigh, Sora spoke the words in a calmer tone, "I guess ours was just a childhood romance." Acknowledging it was like opening a door to maturity, accepting that their relationship, based on the innocence of childhood, no longer had a place in their lives. However, the fact that their romantic bond had come to an end didn't make the pain of that separation insignificant.
Both Sora and Kairi had struggled to make the difficult decision to end their relationship. They had shared unforgettable moments together, built dreams, and faced challenges as a team. But as they grew and found themselves in different stages of their lives, they had come to realize that the romantic love that once bound them had evolved into a familial love, the love of siblings.
Although the transition hadn't been easy, both knew it was the right choice. They understood that a relationship without genuine and sincere love couldn't thrive or bring them the happiness and growth they sought. They chose to free each other and allow themselves to explore new individual paths, trusting that the special bond they shared would remain as a strong and lasting friendship.
Sora raised the paopu fruit towards the sun's radiance, watching as its glow was obscured by his hand. In that moment, a haunting question arose in his mind: "What if Kairi wasn't the person meant for me?" The weight of uncertainty reflected in his gaze as the star-shaped fruit hung suspended in the air.
The longing to discover who his true soulmate might be consumed Sora. "Could it be Aqua?" he questioned himself, quickly suppressing any premature illusions. He couldn't afford to build hopes without a foundation. Although he and Aqua had started talking more frequently lately, after all this time, they were still just friends. He needed to stay grounded and acknowledge that there was someone else who seemed to have more opportunities than he did.
A sense of resignation took hold of Sora as he lowered the paopu fruit to examine it closely. There was someone on Aqua's horizon, someone who knew her deeply and had shared countless moments by her side: Terra. It was an open secret that they were in love, or at least they once were. However, Aqua's sudden change in attitude had cast doubt on the firmness of that feeling.
"Doesn't matter," Sora murmured with a tone of detachment, tossing the paopu fruit into the vast sea. In that symbolic gesture, he let go of the expectations and the tormenting questions. He knew he couldn't force destiny or control other people's feelings. All he could do was move forward and trust that, sooner or later, true love would find its way to his heart.
Sora descended slowly from the palm tree, feeling a profound sense of calm wash over him. "Whatever the situation, I'll genuinely be happy for her," he affirmed with conviction. It was time to stop overthinking the matter and simply enjoy Aqua's imminent arrival on Destiny Islands.
He walked towards the wooden bridge that connected the small island to the rest of the world, determined to let things flow naturally between him and Aqua. Even though each encounter with her made his heart race with love, he understood the importance of not intruding too much and not rushing the circumstances. He had to respect Aqua's decisions and feelings, regardless of whether her heart beat for Terra or anyone else.
With a calm and serene stride, Sora left the island that meant so much to him, trusting that destiny would take the reins in its own time. He couldn't control or manipulate the invisible threads that connected people, but he could control his own attitude and approach. He was willing to embrace whatever the future held, knowing that only he could write his own story.
Although uncertainty still lingered in his heart, Sora chose to adopt a perspective of openness and acceptance. If destiny decided to unite him with Aqua, he would welcome it with joy and gratitude. On the other hand, if their paths diverged, Sora would be there to support her choices and celebrate her happiness.
The young Keyblade master, Aqua, found herself immersed in her room, cradled by the softness of her bed. The sun gently filtered through the open window, bathing the room in its warm glow, while a heavenly breeze danced in the air, caressing her serene face.
Finishing the reading of a book, Aqua whispered the magical words, "and they lived happily ever after," gently closing the cover. A sense of gratitude and satisfaction flooded her being as she experienced a happy ending. "Finally, a story that culminates with a happy ending," she reflected with a smile on her lips. The last few readings had left a bitter taste, with their sad and heart-wrenching tales. Now, she preferred to indulge in happy endings, where love and hope prevailed.
Aqua rose from her bed, feeling the energy radiating with every step she took. She carefully placed the book on a carved wooden shelf, a sanctuary for her literary treasures. Her eyes scanned the titles adorning the shelf, a personal library filled with adventures and emotions. It was undeniable: Aqua's passion for reading was insatiable.
A bright idea lit up her mind as she considered sharing her love for books with someone special. A mischievous sparkle danced in her eyes as she thought of Sora. "I could bring a book when I go to see Sora," she said to herself, letting out a soft laugh. She imagined the excitement she would feel as she introduced him to a new world of letters and words, hoping that his interest would awaken and they would share moments of complicity through stories.
With a determined resolve, Aqua examined her shelf of literary diversity, like a treasure trove of possibilities. Each book was a window to unknown worlds, full of wonders and teachings. She had devoured them eagerly, absorbing their wisdom and nourishing her imagination.
The right choice required delicacy and consideration. Sliding her fingers along the rows of books, Aqua stopped at a title that seemed to fit perfectly with Sora's adventurous and brave spirit. She took the book in her hands, feeling the weight of its words and the promise of new emotions. "This one will do," she murmured with certainty.
With a gentle and determined step, Aqua approached her bedside table, where the carefully chosen book rested. "This is a good one, Zack and Aerith's story, one of my favorites," she whispered with reverence as she delicately caressed the cover.
The pending task of informing Ven and Terra about her upcoming visit to Destiny Islands peeked into her consciousness. She knew that facing the journey alone would fill her with nervousness, so she preferred to have company on this special trip. Besides, she had promised Sora that she would bring Terra and Ven with her. With this in mind, Aqua left her room, gently closing the door behind her.
Aqua walked elegantly through the spacious hallways of her home until she reached the cozy living room, where she found Terra, comfortably lying on the sofa doing not much else. A warm smile spread across Aqua's face as she approached him with determination, ready to get his attention.
"Hello, Terra," Aqua greeted with a serene and professional voice, turning her gaze towards the blue-haired figure.
Terra responded courteously, returning her smile, "Hey, Aqua. Do you need something?"
"To be honest, yes," Aqua confessed as she settled on the sofa, wanting to be close to Terra. "I wanted to know if you and Ven are interested in joining me on a trip to Destiny Islands tomorrow."
Aqua's words left Terra puzzled, showing his confusion at such a proposal. "Destiny Islands? Is there a particular reason?" Terra asked, trying to better understand the situation.
"Well, I promised Sora that I would visit him," Aqua admitted sincerely. At this revelation, Terra became even more perplexed. Since when did Aqua talk with Sora? Furthermore, how was it possible for them to communicate? According to his memories, Sora had not returned to their home, which raised questions about the nature of their communication.
"How do you talk with Sora? I mean, as far as I know, he hasn't come back or anything for you to be able to talk," Terra questioned, seeking to unravel the mystery.
"Oh, we talk through the Gummiphone," Aqua responded with a smile, taking the device out of her pocket and showing it to Terra. "I have everyone's numbers, so there's no problem in getting in touch with him."
Both he and Aqua had never bothered to understand current technology, preferring to enjoy the freedom of the outdoors and the wonders of nature instead of getting wrapped up in the world of technology. This conscious choice had been part of their lifestyle for as long as they could remember.
"To be honest, I'll never understand how that thing works," Terra admitted, looking at the Gummiphone. However, Aqua replied with a reassuring smile and tone, "It's quite easy. You should try using it for something. After all, we were given it, right?"
"I guess," Terra replied, getting up from the sofa and heading towards the exit of the room. "For me, it's fine. If that's what you want, I'll go. I'll find Ven and ask him what he thinks about it. Although knowing him, he'll probably agree right away." His steps echoed on the floor as he set out to look for Ventus.
Aqua nodded pleased with Terra's response and let out a satisfied smile. As her plan started to come together, excitement began to well up within her.
The day passed in its usual course, and finally, the long-awaited day that Sora had eagerly anticipated arrived. Aqua was coming to Destiny Islands. Sora had informed Kairi and Riku about the visit, and for them, having their friends in their home was not a bother at all. On the contrary, Aqua's presence was always welcome in that place.
Sora got up early in the morning, filled with excitement, and once again roamed the entire island to ensure that everything was in perfect order for Aqua's arrival. Anticipation and nerves intertwined within him, generating a restless energy that made his heart beat stronger. He had never felt such eagerness and excitement for someone's arrival before.
The hours passed slowly, and the clock struck one-thirty in the afternoon. Sora, impatient, was still waiting since Aqua had not called or informed him of the exact time of her arrival. Uncertainty began to weigh on his spirit, but he tried to maintain faith that she would be there soon.
"What if she forgot?" Sora asked himself while sitting on his faithful palm tree. Uncertainty and anxiety began to weave in his mind, creating doubts he tried to dispel. However, deep in his heart, he trusted that Aqua would not disappoint him. Surely, he thought, she's on her way... right?
Trying to distract his impatience, he glanced around the island, taking in the familiar surroundings. Five minutes passed like eternities until the sound of the Gummiphone resonated in the air. Sora quickly took it out of his pocket and checked the screen; his face lit up with a mixture of joy and excitement when he saw that it was Aqua calling.
"Hello, Aqua?" Sora pronounced those words with a slightly trembling voice, a mix of nervousness and enthusiasm.
"Hello, Sora," spoke the young master Aqua through the Gummiphone, her voice resonating with softness and serenity. Every word she uttered was like a melody caressing Sora's ears, filling him with excitement and anticipation. "I was calling to let you know that Terra, Ven, and I are on our way to Destiny Islands."
Joy and excitement overflowed in Sora's heart as he heard Aqua's words. His smile widened even further, revealing the pure happiness that flooded his being. "Awesome! I can't wait for you to arrive," he exclaimed with overflowing enthusiasm. The idea of showing them everything that Destiny Islands had to offer was like a fire burning within him, fueling his desire to share unforgettable moments with his dear friends.
"Okay, I promise not to take long. We'll be there shortly," Aqua said, confirming their imminent arrival. Sora ended the call, but the excitement continued to vibrate in every fiber of his being. He pocketed the Gummiphone and hurriedly made his way home, where he would eagerly await the arrival of his guests.
Happiness overflowed in every corner of his body as he roamed the hallways of his home. Each room seemed to glow with a special energy, as if imbued with the anticipation and joy that Sora felt at that moment. He stopped by the window, gazing towards the horizon with eyes full of hope and excitement.
"Does he have any particular reason to be so happy?" Kairi asked Riku, as they both observed Sora, who remained absorbed in looking out the window. Curiosity and amazement reflected in Kairi's eyes, seeking to understand the source of her friend's immense happiness.
"Who knows," Riku responded with a hint of perplexity in his voice. "I don't think it's anything in particular. I know he's very excited; I've never seen him this way before. But we must remember that despite being seventeen, Sora seems to have the mentality of a five-year-old..."
Riku's words hung in the air, leaving a sense of understanding between them. Kairi couldn't help but let out a small laugh, acknowledging the truth hidden behind that statement. Deep down, they knew that no matter the adversities or battles Sora had faced, there was a youthful and pure spirit within him that would never fade.
"I think you're right," Kairi admitted, letting out a warm and affectionate smile.
Outside, far from Sora, Riku, and Kairi's home, another group of three stood: Terra, Ventus, and Aqua. After a few minutes of travel, they had arrived at Destiny Islands. Nostalgia and familiarity enveloped their hearts as they ventured into that meaningful place for them.
"It's been a long time since we've been here, hasn't it?" Terra mentioned, walking slowly, letting his gaze wander over the coastal landscapes.
"The last time we were here was after defeating Xehanort. Since then, the place seems to have changed completely," Ventus commented, his eyes exploring each corner with curiosity and nostalgia in equal parts.
Aqua, however, sensed something more in the atmosphere. Her gaze stopped at the horizon, and an expression of concern crossed her face. "But doesn't it feel... empty?" she whispered, capturing the attention of her companions. "I mean, it looks beautiful and radiant, but somewhat lonely."
"Well, you're right," Terra reassured, looking at his companions with a comforting smile. "Maybe other people are busy or at their homes. Come on, let's hurry to our friends' house."
The three friends quickened their pace, advancing with determination towards the coastal wooden home of Riku, Kairi, and Sora. The house was modest but spacious enough to accommodate the three people who called it home. Terra wasted no time and knocked on the door, eager to reunite with his dear friends.
The door swung open, revealing a radiant and energetic Sora. His face lit up with a sincere and infectious smile as he saw Aqua, Terra, and Ventus standing before him.
"Hey, guys!" Sora exclaimed enthusiastically, his voice resonating with joy at seeing Terra, Ventus, and most of all, Aqua, whom he had been so excited about in the past few days.
The three friends responded with radiant smiles as Sora invited them inside. Once inside the house, Riku and Kairi gave them a warm welcome, completing the circle of friendship. They all settled on the living room couch and began to chat in a relaxed manner, sharing anecdotes and news about their lives.
However, for Sora, time seemed to pass slowly. Although he enjoyed the company of his friends, he couldn't help but feel a growing impatience. He didn't want to spend the day cooped up in the house; he wanted to show Aqua all the wonders the island had to offer. With that thought in mind, Sora glanced at Aqua and, with subtle gestures, tapped her shoulder several times to get her attention.
"Do you want to go outside?" Sora whispered with a delicate smile, his voice barely audible but filled with an invitation full of emotions. Aqua, with her serene gaze, returned the smile and nodded gently, agreeing to the idea. It was as if their hearts understood each other silently, without the need for additional words.
Sora, with a playful yet respectful expression, informed his friends of his plan to go outside. In response to his proposition, Riku spoke calmly and considerately.
"Hmm, I actually intended to show Terra something that he'll surely find interesting," Riku mentioned, turning his gaze towards Terra as he assessed his interest in the proposal. The sparkle of curiosity and anticipation reflected in Terra's eyes, and he responded with a smile.
"Of course," Terra affirmed with enthusiasm, showing his excitement for discovering something new and meaningful.
Ventus, on the other hand, expressed understandable concern. Settling into his seat, he mentioned the heat outside and his desire to avoid unnecessary sunburns. He decided to stay in the comfort of the house, but his companion Kairi offered a supportive gesture.
"I'll keep Ven company. He's right, I don't want to end up with sunburns either," Kairi smiled, showing her solidarity with her friend and sharing the desire to take care of his well-being.
"Oh, come on, are you all so weak?" Sora teased with a playful tone, trying to encourage his friends to join them. However, he soon realized that his proposal wouldn't be accepted and accepted the reality with a resigned smile.
"It will just be you and me, Aqua," Sora sighed. He looked at Aqua, finding understanding in her eyes, and then with firm steps, they made their way to the exit of his home.
Once they emerged from the cozy cabin, they experienced the intoxicating sensation of the warm coastal sun caressing their faces, while a gentle and pleasant breeze gently brushed against them. The enveloping sounds of the sea became present as the waves broke gently on the shore, accompanied by the cheerful chirping of seagulls dancing in the sky. It was as if nature itself welcomed them. Filled with a sense of joy, they jubilantly made their way to the shoreline.
"Well, what are you going to show me on your island?" Aqua inquired, directing her gaze towards the young hero. Sora, in response, offered an enigmatic smile and, with carefree elegance, clasped his hands behind his head, a characteristic gesture he had adopted as a personal habit. In that moment, as he let his mind wander in search of a satisfactory answer, an idea began to take root within him.
"I'll show you a bunch of places in this spot," Sora declared confidently as he started walking. "Come on, I'll take you to the cave first."
With an air of mystery and anticipation, Aqua followed the young man in complete silence, a playful smile on her lips. Together, they ventured into the unknown, a hidden path that would lead them to a secret and fascinating place. To reach it, they had to pass through a part of the majestic tree that dominated the island, as if the tree itself guarded the entrance to an enchanted world.
They moved through a narrow corridor, though wide enough to allow the passage of any person. After a short journey, they finally arrived at the cave.
The cave, though modest in size, overflowed with life and color in every corner. The walls were adorned with an infinity of drawings, artistic creations that seemed to come to life. Towering castles stood alongside dancing stars and moons, while radiant suns illuminated the imaginary landscape. It was a true feast for the eyes. Aqua was in awe of the diversity of the drawings, stopping at every step to appreciate the carefully depicted details.
Sora, with curiosity and admiration in his eyes, turned his gaze towards Aqua as he awaited her response. The glimmer of light filtering through the cracks of the cave illuminated her face, highlighting her expression of awe and fascination.
Aqua, immersed in a sea of visual wonders, continued to examine the surroundings of the cave with care. Her attention focused on the numerous drawings adorning the walls, creating an authentic artistic treasure in that magical place. Each corner revealed a story, each stroke seemed to tell a secret.
"Wow, it's truly impressive," Aqua admitted as she cautiously approached a particular wall, decorated with a magnificent drawing of an imposing castle. The detail and skill with which it had been depicted awakened a deep sense of admiration within her.
"I know, here, everyone who lived on this island used to come and draw something," Sora replied with a reflective tone. His words revealed a knowledge rooted in the history of that special place.
Curiosity reflected in Aqua's eyes as she sought to understand the context of Sora's statement. "Lived?" she asked, confused by the past tense of the verb. In that moment, a glimmer of nostalgia and melancholy crossed her mind, but Sora quickly tried to dispel any concerns.
"Oh, it doesn't matter," Sora replied, realizing that his previous comment could have raised unnecessary questions. He decided to focus on sharing another discovery with Aqua within that cave filled with artistic treasures. With a gesture, he pointed to a nearby wall, inviting Aqua to come closer.
Captivated by the next drawing on the wall, Aqua approached with light and expectant steps. Before her eyes, an endearing and meaningful scene unfolded. Two faces drawn in a caricatured style presented themselves in a unique and touching representation. In the foreground, the face of a young man, with a distinctive spiky hairstyle, was clearly distinguishable as he extended a star toward another figure, whose features couldn't be precisely defined due to the lack of detail in the strokes.
The presence of the boy, whose resemblance to Sora was undeniable, intrigued Aqua with the gesture and implied connection in that scene, immersing her in a sea of silent questions. Who was that other person, the recipient of the star?
Moved by her curiosity, Aqua pointed to the imperfect drawing with an inquisitive gesture, seeking to unravel the mystery hidden in its less precise lines. The question escaped her lips as a soft whisper in the air. "Who is the other person?" she inquired, her eyes fixed on Sora, awaiting an answer that would shed light on that artistic enigma.
Sora, with a modest smile and a hint of embarrassment, stepped forward to reveal the secret behind the drawing. "Ah, that's Kairi. I'm not very talented at drawing," he confessed, letting out a resigned sigh. His words, although filled with self-criticism, couldn't overshadow the beauty and meaning that emanated from that poorly executed stroke. It was evident that, despite his self-proclaimed lack of skill, Sora had managed to capture the essence of his friend in the simplicity of that drawing.
However, before silence could engulf the scene, Sora mustered the courage to speak up, raising his gaze with determination. "But I've gotten better over time!" he exclaimed, his voice resonating with a mix of pride and shyness. His statement elicited a soft and melodious laughter from Aqua, who found charm in the honesty and passion that radiated from Sora.
Aqua, with a mix of curiosity and surprise, let her eyes rest on Sora, eager to learn more about the mysterious bond hidden behind the drawing. Her words came out in a whisper tinged with intrigue. "Oh, that's wonderful. Tell me, did you and Kairi draw it together?" she asked with genuine curiosity, her gaze shifting between Sora and the drawing that connected them.
Sora nodded serenely, his gaze lost in the drawing that evoked memories of a bygone time. "Yes," he confessed, allowing his words to flow delicately. "It was during our childhood, when we were both in love." His voice carried the remembrance of that past moment.
The silence that followed Sora's words enveloped Aqua, who was immersed in her thoughts. Confusion infiltrated her mind, and suddenly she realized a crucial detail she had completely forgotten. A torrent of memories emerged into her consciousness, like turbulent waves bringing forth the truth that had been hidden in the depths of her memory.
How had she been able to forget such a momentous detail? After the battle against Xehanort, Sora and Kairi had officially started their relationship, sharing an intimate and significant connection. The joy and happiness that Sora had brought into Aqua's life had overshadowed her memory, causing this important aspect of the young hero's life to fade into the shadows of her own existence.
Perplexity reflected in Aqua's eyes as she struggled to grasp the magnitude of her forgetfulness. However, a multitude of questions filled her mind. Had something else happened between Sora and Kairi that escaped her knowledge? Instead of continuing to speculate, she decided to ask.
Confusion invaded Aqua's thoughts like a dense fog obscuring her understanding. Sora's comment plunged her into a tangle of questions and doubts, leaving her heart submerged in overwhelming confusion. An expression of incredulity and bewilderment appeared on her face as she asked a question laden with uncertainty. "We were?" she repeated in a barely audible whisper, unable to comprehend the implicit suggestion in Sora's words.
For Aqua, it was an undeniable fact that both Kairi and Sora deeply loved each other. She vividly remembered how Sora had crossed seas, skies, and lands in search of Kairi, demonstrating unwavering love and absolute devotion towards her. Moreover, after Xehanort's defeat, at a joyous celebration on the very islands where they now stood, Aqua had witnessed a tender and passionate kiss between Sora and Kairi. That gesture seemed to clearly affirm that they were a couple, bound together by a profound and sacred bond.
However, she now faced a confusing and bewildering reality. Had something more happened that she hadn't perceived? The mere idea of there being another twist in the story, a different outcome than what she thought she had understood, seemed unfathomable and incomprehensible to her mind.
"Kairi and I broke up a long time ago," Sora stated, the words escaping with a tinge of resignation.
Aqua was left paralyzed, unable to fully process the revelation she had just received. It was as if the ground beneath her feet had vanished, leaving her floating in a vastness of complex and contradictory emotions. The idea that Sora and Kairi had ended their relationship felt completely unreal, a dissonant echo resonating within the confines of her mind.
For Aqua, Sora and Kairi had been a symbol of unwavering love and connection. Their bond seemed beyond any doubt, radiating a light that embraced them in an eternal embrace. The mere thought that such pure and deep love had come to an end sent a shiver of the unexpected through her.
However, amid this whirlwind of emotions, a glimmer of unexpected and selfish joy flickered in Aqua's heart. It was a feeling that struggled to be heard amidst the surprise and confusion. Though overwhelmed by the news, a small part of her found slight satisfaction in hearing those words. Despite her efforts to quell that feeling, she couldn't deny that a glimmer of hope seemed to awaken within her.
A barely perceptible whisper escaped Aqua's lips as she tried to conceal the emotion inexplicably seeping into her voice. Her eyes locked onto Sora, searching his gaze for any hint that would confirm the truth of his words. Reality clung to her mind, even as her heart wrestled with fully processing it.
"Really?" Aqua asked, her words tinged with incredulity and a subtle hope. She felt like a taut rope, swinging between surprise and cautious emotion threatening to bloom within her.
Sora's response came calmly, like a distant echo in the vast abyss of her thoughts. "Yes, Kairi and I ended our relationship some time ago," he affirmed, and a faint smile graced his lips. It was evident that those memories no longer brought him sadness, but rather a sense of liberation and acceptance.
A myriad of emotions danced within Aqua, entwining surprise, joy, and confusion in a tangled whirlwind. Was it wrong to feel happy about this news?
Sora shifted his attention to another wall of the cave, setting aside the previous topic. An open and empty space lay before them, inviting them to let their creativity soar. With a determined gesture, the young hero picked up a small rock from the ground, its sharp edges marked by the erosion of time and the forces of nature.
"We're not here to dwell on the past, right?" Sora said with an enigmatic smile. Aqua let out a soft laugh.
"Come," urged Sora, offering the rock to Aqua with gentleness. She approached him with slow steps, feeling curiosity burning within her. What was Sora up to now? With a mix of anticipation and trust, Aqua took the rock in her hands, feeling its rough texture and comforting weight.
"Here, draw something," Sora said with a warm smile.
"Draw?" Aqua asked, her voice filled with curiosity and astonishment at Sora's suggestion.
"Yes, it would be beautiful to have a memory of yours etched into this island," Sora admitted, stepping away from the cave wall to make space for Aqua. "Go ahead, let yourself be inspired."
Aqua pondered for a moment, her eyes scanning the wall. What could she draw that would leave a lasting mark in that spot? She searched the depths of her being, allowing imagination and intuition to fuse into a silent dance.
"Any ideas?" Aqua asked, seeking guidance in Sora's gaze.
Sora shrugged. "No idea," he honestly responded. "Just let your imagination fly unrestricted."
"Mmm, I've got it!" Aqua exclaimed with a voice full of excitement, her smile illuminating the cave. Without wasting time, she took the rock in her hands and began tracing her ideas on the wall.
Sora, with his arms crossed and a faint smile on his lips, admired how Aqua immersed herself in her creation, infusing each stroke with passion and skill. Although he couldn't yet discern clearly what she was drawing, every line unfolded with impeccable precision and without any trembling.
However, to Sora's bewilderment, Aqua abruptly stopped her activity, redirecting her gaze towards him. The young hero furrowed his brow in confusion, intrigued by the sudden change in Aqua's creative flow.
"Is something wrong?" Sora asked with a mix of confusion and curiosity, his eyes fixed on Aqua, seeking an explanation.
"Turn around," Aqua requested. Curiosity reflected in Sora's eyes, but he complied with Aqua's request, knowing that the surprise would be much more meaningful if he allowed himself to be carried away by the mystery.
"No peeking," Aqua clarified firmly, approaching Sora and gently taking him by the shoulders. It was a tender gesture that conveyed trust and complicity. Sora let out a small laugh, delighting in Aqua's playful mischief.
"Alright, alright, I won't look," Sora mumbled, obeying the request and turning his body to face the opposite direction, away from Aqua and the wall where she brought her creation to life.
"If I find out you're spying on me, I'll leave the island immediately," Aqua threatened with a serious tone but a hint of playful mischief in her voice. Sora responded with a smile and a nod.
"It's alright, I won't look, I promise," Sora assured sincerely, sealing his commitment to Aqua.
"Good," Aqua affirmed with a radiant smile.
After a few minutes, the drawing was finally complete. Aqua stepped away from the wall, admiring her creation with a glimmer of pride in her eyes. Every line, every detail, had been conceived with love and care, carrying a profound and transcendent message.
"Now, close your eyes," Aqua whispered tenderly, her voice laden with emotions.
"Uh, but..." Sora tried to protest, but his words faded in the air when met with Aqua's gaze full of tenderness. She took him from behind, placing her warm hands on his shoulders, interrupting his protest with a gesture of gentleness and complicity.
"Please?" The sweetness in Aqua's voice and the comforting touch of her hands made Sora surrender to her request. He closed his eyes, trusting Aqua completely and allowing himself to be carried away by the surprise that awaited him.
"They're completely closed, Aqua," Sora softly informed, making sure that Aqua felt assured he wouldn't ruin the revelation by opening his eyes.
With a radiant smile, Aqua gently took Sora's right hand, taking the opportunity. Slowly, she guided Sora forward, leading him with careful and deliberate steps until they were finally facing the wall where Aqua had brought her artwork to life. With her hand still intertwined with Sora's, Aqua gently stopped their progress.
With a mixture of nervousness and joy in her voice, Aqua whispered, "Sora, now you can open your eyes." Her words resonated in the silence.
Aqua stepped back slightly from Sora, but her smile still shone brightly on her radiant face. Her hand gently released his, allowing him to open his eyes slowly. With each blink, the world around him was revealed before his eyes.
The precise and elegant lines of Aqua had brought to life the drawing of an exquisitely detailed rose, a rose that seemed to transcend reality itself. Each petal was filled with delicacy and grace, reflecting the ephemeral yet eternal beauty of nature. Soft and vibrant tones blended harmoniously, creating an almost magical illusion that captured the very essence of the rose.
Sora's heart filled with wonder and admiration as he gazed upon the drawing. His eyes sparkled with a mix of gratitude and awe as he absorbed each meticulous detail.
Aqua, shy but filled with anticipation, approached Sora, seeking validation for her work. Her barely audible voice mingled with the whisper of the wind that penetrated the cave.
"And... do you like it?" Aqua asked timidly, her eyes reflecting a mixture of insecurity and hope. Gently, she drew closer to Sora, knowing how much he loved the blue rose in her garden, and revealed her inspiration for the drawing.
Sora looked at Aqua, captivated by the connection they shared. A glimmer of gratitude lit up his eyes as he recalled that delicate floral treasure that had captivated his heart. The smile that spread across his face radiated genuine joy.
"It's beautiful, Aqua," Sora admitted, letting his fingers gently caress the drawing on the wall. Each perfect stroke and meticulously captured detail revealed Aqua's artistic mastery.
Aqua's heart filled with joy upon hearing Sora's words. Knowing that her effort had been appreciated and that she had managed to capture the essence of the blue rose, the symbol of their special connection, filled her with indescribable happiness.
"I assure you this drawing will remain here forever," Sora said with a broad and sincere smile. It was more than just a simple drawing on a cave wall for him.
"Okay," Aqua said, maintaining her radiant smile as she handed the rock to Sora. "Add something to it."
Sora was hesitant about the idea. He didn't want to risk ruining the perfection of Aqua's drawing. He feared that any addition might dilute the essence and magic she had so carefully captured. However, Aqua gently took his right hand and placed the rock in his palm.
"Come on, draw something," Aqua insisted tenderly, releasing his hand while maintaining her smile. "I want you to do it, so it'll be a joint drawing. Please, Sora."
Sora felt indecisive for a moment. But it was hard to resist Aqua's pleas, especially when her face radiated a mix of sweetness and longing. The idea of creating something together, a tangible symbol of their shared collaboration, became too tempting to resist.
With a soft sigh, Sora embraced the challenge. He studied the drawing carefully, examining each stroke, each delicate detail that Aqua had captured so masterfully. He let his imagination soar and sought a way to complement and enhance Aqua's artwork.
"Hmm, alright," Sora said, still unsure as he held the rock in his hand. "But first..." Sora approached Aqua, his eyes shining with determination.
"What's happening?" Aqua asked, feeling Sora gently take her by the shoulders and turn her around.
"No peeking until I'm done," Sora said, teasing in the same way Aqua had done before. This elicited a giggle from Aqua.
"Okay, I won't look," Aqua said, smiling as Sora let out a small laugh.
"If I catch you..." Sora said, playfully threatening, "...I'll stop helping you with your fears." Aqua quickly nodded, bobbing her head up and down to show her agreement, which only amused Sora even more.
"I promise, I won't look," Aqua affirmed, still nodding her head in commitment.
"Alright," said Sora with determination and without further ado, directing his gaze towards Tenma's drawing on the wall.
"I know, I'll draw something simple," Sora whispered, taking a deep breath, and began to add his personal touch to the drawing on the wall. His strokes were precise and careful, each line and curve chosen with love and attention, ensuring not to disturb the original drawing. Minutes later, the complementary drawing was complete in its entirety. Sora had put in his best effort, hoping Aqua wouldn't be upset by waiting for so long, but he longed for the result to be perfect. With a determined gesture, Sora tossed the rock aside and approached Aqua, gently taking her shoulders in his hands.
"Close your eyes," Sora whispered tenderly into Aqua's ear. The young master obeyed immediately and closed her eyes, fully trusting her partner. Just as Aqua had done earlier, Sora positioned her in front of the drawing.
"Open them," Sora requested in a whisper, and Aqua complied, opening her eyes slowly.
With amazement, Aqua appreciated how the flower she had drawn now had a special addition. Two caricature faces had been integrated into the drawing, one on each side of the rose. On the right, the first face had spiky hair, leading Aqua to deduce that it represented Sora. On the left, the face showed shorter, spiky hair, and Aqua immediately realized it was herself. Sora had drawn both of them, creating a charming representation of their bond.
Aqua offered a tender and affectionate smile at Sora's gesture. It was a beautiful and meaningful detail that showcased the love they shared. The drawing evoked the moments when Sora had told her about his adventures and experiences in his home. It was as if the art had immortalized that tale, turning it into a tangible part of their shared history.
The simple yet meaningful strokes in that drawing spoke for themselves. They represented how Sora and Aqua had left indelible marks on each other's lives. They were symbols of the deep connection they had forged, a bond that went beyond words and manifested in each stroke of that improvised canvas.
As Aqua gazed at the drawing on the wall, she could feel the warmth of those shared memories.
The silence filled the cave, interrupted only by a captivating whisper that escaped Aqua's lips. "Wow," it was all she could say, but within those two words lay deep emotions intertwining within her.
Observing Aqua's reaction with some unease, Sora sought approval for his creation. "Do you like it?" he asked softly, his gaze reflecting a mix of nervousness and longing for Aqua's opinion. That drawing, now adorning the wall, held a special meaning for both of them, representing that precious moment when they had conversed for hours, letting their souls intertwine in the intimacy of their words.
Moved, Sora explained the symbolism behind each stroke, hoping that Aqua could see through them his profound affection and the love nesting deep within him. His tremulous voice mirrored the vulnerability he felt in opening his heart and sharing his art with her.
Aqua, not averting her eyes from the drawing, was captivated by the beauty and meaning that Sora had infused into each line and color. Her eyes sparkled with joy as her lips curved into a radiant smile. "It's perfect," she exclaimed, her voice filled with elation and admiration. The emotion flowing in her words was unmistakable evidence of the deep connection she had found in that drawing.
Trying to downplay his own ability with modesty, Sora responded shyly, scratching his cheek with his index finger. "It's not that special, Aqua," he expressed with a sheepish smile. But deep down, compliments like Aqua's resonated like a celestial symphony, boosting his confidence and evoking a sense of pride in his talent.
Unfazed by Sora's modesty, Aqua looked back at the drawing on the wall, her fingers gently brushing the meaningful strokes. "It's perfect," she reiterated with determination, making it clear that this was more than just a simple drawing to her. It was an artistic expression of their shared love, a tangible testament to the beauty that existed in their relationship.
The air was filled with an even deeper atmosphere as Aqua directed her gaze at Sora, whose eyes reflected eager curiosity. In that moment of silent connection, words hung in the air, laden with profound meaning. "It's... like our mark, isn't it?" Aqua pronounced with a mix of astonishment and admiration, her gaze lost in the strokes that had given life to the drawing.
With a small laugh escaping his lips, Sora approached the wall where Aqua still gently caressed the artwork. Placing his hand next to hers on the drawing, their fingers intertwined, Sora nodded gently. "Yes," he said with conviction, his eyes reflecting sincere determination. "It's a mark that will never fade away," he added, his gaze deeply connected with Aqua's. A radiant smile lit up his face, revealing the certainty of his words. "It will remain here forever, I promise."
Sora's words resonated in Aqua's heart like a soft and comforting echo. The essence of that drawing transcended the physical canvas to become an indelible symbol of their affection and the history they had built together. In every stroke, there echoed their shared laughter, moments of complicity, and promises whispered into the wind. As a mute witness of their relationship, that drawing represented the strength and beauty of their connection.
Aqua whispered softly, her words filled with longing and hope, wishing for that drawing to endure in the cave like all the others.
Sora gently stepped away from Aqua, their gazes intertwined for a moment before he slowly headed towards the cave's exit. Each step he took echoed in the silence, while the echo of his words filled the space. "Alright," he said with determination, his voice full of serenity. "Then let's go, Miss Aqua. The journey still continues."
With each step, Sora and Aqua ventured further towards the cave's exit. The fresh island air gradually caressed their skin as they made their way out, basked in the gentle light filtering through the rock crevices. Once outside, Sora took on the role of guide and leader once again, eager to show Aqua the backside of the island. It was a place full of interesting sights to behold.
They didn't take long to reach the backside of the island, and Aqua couldn't help but notice some truly fascinating things along the way. Among them, a striking zip line stood out in the distance, suspended over an ancient, weathered wooden bridge that clearly didn't offer much safety.
Aqua pointed out the old bridge with evident concern, its broken parts and instability making it seem unreliable. It didn't appear to be a safe option to cross over that fragile structure.
"Don't you think this bridge is extremely dangerous?" Aqua asked, showing her unease about the situation.
With a confident gesture, Sora headed down to the bottom of the bridge and explained, "It's obviously risky. However, I hope you don't mind getting your feet a little wet." He then took off his shoes and dipped them into the water surrounding the bridge.
Aqua, determined to follow her companion, replied, "Of course, I don't mind." Following Sora's example, she also dipped her shoes into the water.
"Don't worry. Besides, the water level is so low that it will barely cover your shoes completely," reassured Sora, walking with determination through the water before stepping out of it and climbing a small set of stairs located on the coast.
"This is the most endearing part of the island," expressed Sora with a radiant smile on his face. "Riku, Kairi, and I used to spend countless hours here when we were kids."
The atmosphere surrounding Aqua was simply captivating. She gazed in awe at the majesty of the tall palm trees that stood on the horizon, swaying gently with the sea breeze. Her eyes wandered towards a zip line gliding above, inviting those brave enough to experience the thrill of flying for a moment.
However, it was a small raft, situated near the shore, that caught her attention powerfully. At first glance, it seemed weathered and old, but its charm was undeniable. Aqua couldn't help but point it out, a mixture of curiosity and admiration in her voice.
"And that raft?" she inquired, seeking to know the story behind that peculiar object.
"Oh, that," responded Sora, diverting his gaze towards the small boat constructed by him, Riku, and Kairi. "Do you like it? Come, let's get closer, and you can appreciate it better."
Intrigued, Aqua followed Sora as they headed towards the raft. As they approached, she could appreciate the details of its craftsmanship. Despite its aged appearance, the structure showed meticulous handiwork and a nostalgic beauty. It was evident that it had once been a functional vessel, but now it lay as a testament to the passage of time.
"It's really beautiful, but I wonder: what is this raft doing here?" inquired Aqua, observing every angle of the structure with a mixture of fascination and perplexity.
"This raft was meticulously built by Kairi, Riku, and me, and we decided to name it Excalibur in honor of my victory in an exciting race against Riku," explained Sora with a smile, reminiscing about that unforgettable moment.
"Oh, but what was it made for?" asked Aqua, curious. It was clear that the raft served for navigation, but what was the purpose behind its construction?
"Well, Riku, Kairi, and I have always longed to travel and discover what lies beyond the waves," expressed Sora as he gazed at the vast sea spread before his eyes. "However, now that we've fulfilled that dream, this raft no longer has a practical use," he added, approaching the mast where the flag proudly waved. "Nevertheless, it still holds great sentimental value for us," he emphasized, directing his gaze towards Aqua. "It's similar to how you value your garden; I wouldn't know what to do if something happened to this raft."
Aqua watched Sora with a smile and kindly remarked, "It's evident that you have a very special bond with this raft."
Sora nodded, pleased, and replied with a playful smile, "Do you think it shows that much?"
"Ah! That's right, there isn't much more to see here." Then, he turned his gaze to Aqua and added excitedly, "But now let's go to my favorite spot on the island!" His enthusiasm resonated in his voice as he began to walk, inviting Aqua to follow him.
"Let's go," said Aqua, following Sora as they made their way back along the path they had taken. Together, they headed towards the front part of the island.
After passing through a carefully carved wooden door that connected the rear and front parts of the Destiny Islands, Sora and Aqua emerged once again in the front area. Guiding Aqua with determined steps, Sora led her towards a modest wooden cabin tucked away in a secluded corner. With grace, he opened the door and invited her inside.
The interior of the cabin was cozy and simple, designed to provide an intimate refuge amidst the lush surrounding nature. However, the most notable feature of this cabin was its peculiar structure. Sora led Aqua up a wooden staircase, ascending to the topmost part of the cabin.
Reaching the highest point, they went through another door that led them outside again. Sora and Aqua found themselves facing a suspended bridge constructed with intertwined woods. This bridge led to a small island that hosted a unique palm tree bent in an extraordinary way. The sight of this natural wonder brought smiles of astonishment to both of their faces. With joy and enthusiasm, Sora took a seat on the bent palm tree.
"Come, have a seat," invited Sora, gently patting the left side of the palm tree. Aqua nodded in response, accepting the invitation. With grace and agility, she climbed onto the palm tree and settled next to Sora on the left side.
"Is this your favorite spot?" asked Aqua, observing Sora, whose gaze remained fixed on the vast and gleaming blue sea.
"Yes, it's perfect, and it becomes even more perfect during the night. Gazing at the stars from here is an absolute wonder," admitted Sora, diverting his gaze towards the blue-haired girl. "Do you like it?"
"Yes, it's beautiful and relaxing," smiled Aqua. This place witnessed the moment when she and the others witnessed the first kiss between Kairi and Sora. Although she was surprised that he and Kairi weren't together, she decided not to touch on the topic out of respect for Sora's privacy. As she got lost in her thoughts about the relationship between Kairi and Sora, her attention was caught by a fruit at the top of the palm tree. It had a star-like shape and a yellowish color, piquing her curiosity and completely pulling her out of her reflections.
"Is that a fruit?" asked Aqua, pointing at the star-shaped fruit with palpable curiosity in her eyes.
Sora, following the direction of her gaze, gave a slight smile. "Oh, you mean the paopu fruit," he replied, getting closer and gently plucking one of them, handing it over to Aqua. "You should know it, Ventus told me you took inspiration from it to create the 'Wayfinder.'"
"Although I saw a picture of the fruit, I never had the chance to see it in person, not even when I was here after defeating Xehanort," observed Aqua, examining the fruit carefully.
"Oh, then you don't know the legend that surrounds it," replied Sora with a glimmer of excitement in his eyes, capturing Aqua's attention.
"Legend?" asked Aqua, tilting her head slightly, both puzzled and expectant, as her blue eyes met Sora's.
"Yes, according to the legend, if two people share this fruit, their destinies will be bound together. They will become a part of each other, no matter what happens," Sora revealed, allowing the significance of the legend to fill the air between them.
"Did you share one with Kairi?" Aqua asked, showing genuine interest in Sora's story.
"Yes, it was the first time we shared a paopu fruit together, but as you know, many things happened afterward," Sora explained. "That made me doubt if the legend was more than just a story... or"
"Or?" Aqua urged, wanting to know Sora's perspective.
"Or maybe Kairi wasn't the person destined for me," Sora asserted with determination.
Aqua found herself intrigued by Sora's words. "Then, who do you think is that person for you?" she asked with palpable curiosity.
"I don't know," Sora replied, gazing out at the endlessly stretching sea. "I just know that person will be the most important in my life," he added, turning his gaze back to Aqua with a radiant smile. "I will love her with all my heart and be there for her every step of the way." Aqua couldn't help but smile at the sincerity and tenderness in Sora's words.
"But let's set aside my love life," Sora said with a gentle laugh. "Tell me, Aqua, have you found someone special in your life?"
"Me?" Aqua asked, seeking clarity in the question.
"Yes, like me, have you ever been in love or are you in love?" Sora asked cautiously, showing genuine interest.
Besides, Sora also wanted to gather information about Aqua's feelings, whether she was truly interested in someone or if there was any slight possibility for him. The young Keyblade Master looked down at the fruit in her hands, sighing as she pondered her love life.
"Terra," she mentioned, uttering her companion's name.
For his part, Sora wasn't too surprised. He couldn't deny that hearing Terra's name caused a small pang in his chest, but it was evident to him that Aqua would mention Terra. After all, they had been through so much together that it wasn't strange for both of them to have feelings for each other.
"Oh, so Terra," Sora said, offering Aqua a small, sweet smile. He was happy that Aqua was in love because it meant she could overcome her own fears faster with the company of the person she loved. Even if that person wasn't him, Sora was willing to support her in any way he could.
"No," Aqua quickly denied, which puzzled Sora. He tilted his head slightly to the right, confused to receive a negative response from the blue-haired young woman.
"No?" Sora asked, even more bewildered. She had just mentioned Terra, which implied she was in love with him, right?
"Terra was the person I was in love with," Aqua clarified, clearing up the situation.
This revelation surprised the young man, and a sense of relief and calm washed over him upon hearing those words.
"Since I left the Realm of Darkness, my feelings towards him changed. We tried to have a relationship, but it didn't work out. I was quite distant with him. I thought that the person I kissed and shared so much with was... Xehanort," Aqua confessed, her tone subdued as she recalled how she had kept her distance from Terra, even though he had no ill intentions towards her.
"I see," Sora said, without adding more words, respecting Aqua's feelings and her confession.
"I know it's not Terra's fault that I think this way, but I can't help it," Aqua replied with a mix of sadness and resignation. After all, Terra had been under Xehanort's control for a long time, committing malicious acts that, though not his fault, Aqua couldn't forget. She couldn't help but remember those moments when Terra hurt Ventus during that confrontation. It was a feeling that seemed to persist, and Aqua yearned for it to disappear, but it seemed it would remain present for a long time, if not forever.
"Well, that's what I'm here for, right?" Sora said with a reassuring smile as he placed his left hand on Aqua's right shoulder. "I'll help you face your fears and overcome them so you can be with Terra, as you've always wanted."
Aqua directed her gaze toward the young hero, who offered her a smile filled with tenderness. In that moment, she couldn't help but experience a sense of tranquility and comfort that permeated every fiber of her being. It was something that only the boy in front of her could awaken within her.
"I'll help you two be together, Aqua," Sora affirmed with a smile. Though he felt affection for Aqua, he understood that his true desire was for Terra and her to be united. Therefore, he was willing to do everything possible to facilitate their reunion, so Aqua could be with the person she had always loved.
"No," Aqua replied negatively once again, further perplexing and surprising Sora.
"No? What do you mean?" he asked, with a mixture of confusion and curiosity in his voice.
"I don't want to be with Terra. It's not about seeing him as if he were Xehanort anymore. My feelings have simply changed, and even though I no longer see him as Xehanort, I know my feelings for him won't return. I no longer see him in a romantic way," Aqua explained with sincerity and determination. The brunet was taken aback by that unexpected response. He never expected to hear something like that. However, deep down inside him, a great happiness flooded him upon hearing those words from Aqua. For some reason, he wanted to shout with joy like he had never done before. But he knew he couldn't express it that way, as he also felt bad for being happy about something like this, considering Terra's feelings. Despite that guilt, his happiness was overwhelming and overshadowed everything else.
Sora struggled internally with mixed feelings. He didn't want to feel selfish for celebrating what could be considered a "misfortune" for Terra. After all, he had great respect for his comrade and friend. Was it right to feel joy that Aqua, the girl Terra had been in love with for a long time, now had no feelings for him? While Sora experienced happiness, he also felt a slight remorse for rejoicing in that situation. However, he understood that it was human to have such emotions and that he couldn't help feeling happy deep in his heart.
Moreover, Sora also had deep affection for Aqua, and he was glad that she wasn't interested in anyone else or Terra at that moment. This revelation gave him a glimmer of hope and the possibility of a chance with her. Although he was aware that his desire shouldn't come at the expense of others' happiness, he couldn't help but feel a spark of hope and excitement at the prospect of a future with Aqua.
"Oh, so you don't have any romantic interest then?" Sora asked, removing his hand from Aqua's shoulder. The blue-haired young woman looked back at the fruit in her hands and then formed a small smile on her lips, a mischievous smile that Sora couldn't see due to her hair covering her face.
"Who knows?" Aqua replied enigmatically, leaving the young man even more confused.
"Is that a 'yes' or a 'no'?" Sora asked, as Aqua turned her gaze back to him and gave him a gentle smile.
"I don't know, I'll leave it to your imagination," Aqua replied enigmatically.
"That's not fair, tell me," Sora insisted, eliciting a small laugh from Aqua.
"Nope," Aqua replied playfully. Sora could only pout as he didn't get a straightforward answer from the blue-haired girl. Instead of dispelling his doubts about whether Aqua was in love with someone or not, he now had even more questions in his mind.
"You're mean, Aqua," clarified Sora, trying to show his displeasure.
"Oh, am I mean?" Aqua asked playfully, still smiling.
"Yes, mean," Sora grumbled annoyed, while Aqua continued to smile.
"Come on, kiddo, don't get upset," Aqua teased, trying to ease the tension.
"I'm not a kiddo! You promised to stop calling me that!" Sora raised his voice, annoyed, which made Aqua laugh. "S-stop laughing!" Sora said, feeling embarrassed.
"I'm sorry, but your tantrums are quite funny," Aqua said, laughing sweetly again, causing Sora to become even more upset and blush in complete embarrassment.
"T-they're not tantrums, Aqua!" Sora said embarrassed, trying to defend himself.
"You look so adorable when you blush," Aqua said straightforwardly, looking at him sweetly with an even sweeter and slightly mischievous smile. This made the young hero blush even more, feeling like his ears were starting to emit smoke from the sudden comment of the Keyblade Master.
"Shut up," Sora muttered, averting his gaze to prevent Aqua from seeing him blushing, which made her laugh again. "I hate it when you tease me like this," he whispered angrily, not looking at Aqua, hoping that the reddish color of his face would disappear completely.
"Oh, but it's fun," Aqua admitted without wiping her smile, enjoying the situation.
"It's not," Sora grumbled, still somewhat annoyed.
"Come on, don't be mad," Aqua said, getting closer to Sora, trying to smooth things over. "You can tease me back, you know?"
"I know, I just can't think of how to do it," Sora replied, glancing at Aqua, his blush now calming down.
"Well, think of something, Sora," Aqua suggested with complicity. "I'm sure you'll find a way to counter me. It'll be fun to see how you do it."
Sora sighed, accepting that Aqua would keep teasing him until he found a way to tease her back.
After that playful exchange, Aqua looked at the fruit in her hands, a small mischievous smile still adorning her lips. Taking the opportunity to have the fruit in her hands, she decided to take a bite and discover its taste. She had never tried a fruit like that before, and she was eager to experience it. To Sora's astonishment, Aqua opened her mouth slightly and took a bite, savoring the juicy nectar of the fruit.
"A-Aqua!" Sora exclaimed, raising his voice in an alarmed tone as he saw Aqua biting the fruit. Aqua looked at him curiously, her mouth full of fruit. After swallowing, she innocently asked, "What?"
"You weren't supposed to do that," Sora pointed out, visibly nervous. However, Aqua remained confused, not understanding the reason for all the agitation.
"Why? I just wanted to taste it," Aqua expressed, still confused by Sora's reaction.
"Yes, but I handed it to you," Sora stressed with some anxiety. However, Aqua still didn't understand why there was so much fuss.
"And...?" she asked, seeking an explanation.
"I shared the fruit with you, and according to the legend..." Sora tried to explain, but he was interrupted by Aqua.
"Oh, I forgot about that," Aqua interrupted, adding a slight touch of falsehood to her voice that Sora couldn't perceive. "But it's just a legend, right?" Aqua questioned, looking at Sora with a serene expression. Sora nodded, still concerned about what had happened.
"Then, don't worry," Aqua assured, trying to dispel any concerns Sora might have. Although deep down, a spark of mischief and curiosity led her to defy norms and superstitions.
Sora's heart raced as he tried to find the right words to explain his concern. His face had turned a soft blush, unable to hide the emotion he felt. While the legend spoke of the importance of sharing the fruit between two people, it didn't specify that Aqua should offer one to him as well. The premise was sharing, and Sora had shared his with Aqua, who had already taken a bite of the fruit. Although Sora mentioned it was just a legend, he couldn't help but believe in it to some extent.
Aqua only smiled tenderly at Sora's nervous explanation. It had been true when she said she wanted to taste the fruit. Its flavor was sweet and refreshing, and perhaps curiosity about what would happen if she shared it with Sora had influenced her decision.
"Do you want to try?" Aqua asked, offering Sora the fruit she had tasted. Her eyes sparkled with tenderness, and her voice resonated softly in the air.
Sora, still amazed by the situation, tried to explain, "What? But... what about the legend?"
Aqua responded with a smile, "What does it matter? Come on, try a little."
Sora fell silent, observing how Aqua offered him the paopu fruit with a smile. He felt his heart beating faster. Was he really going to share a paopu fruit with Aqua? Things had moved very quickly, and he wondered what he should do. Should he accept? It was too tempting to resist.
Sora felt his heart race as he looked at the fruit Aqua offered. In that moment, the world seemed to pause, leaving only the two of them amidst the magic and intimacy that surrounded them.
With a shy smile, Sora reached out for the fruit, his fingers brushing against Aqua's in a touch soft and filled with meaning. The air crackled with electricity as Sora held the fruit in his right hand. Their eyes met, and in that instant, the world seemed to freeze around them. The gentle touch of their fingers exchanging the fruit was enough to send waves of affection and emotion coursing through their bodies.
The star-shaped fruit seemed to shine with a special glow, inviting them to embark on a journey of unknown sensations. With nervousness but with a trust that only she inspired, Sora brought the fruit to his lips. A gentle aroma of sweetness filled his senses, preparing him for the unique experience he was about to have.
With a small bite on the tip of the fruit, Sora allowed his palate to be enveloped in the exquisite flavors emanating from it. The taste was a symphony of sweetness and freshness, a melody that resonated within him, filling his being with joy and fulfillment. Each bite was a shared gift, a tangible expression of the deep connection between them.
Their eyes met again, Aqua smiling affectionately or maybe with something more that Sora couldn't quite perceive.
"Now our destinies are intertwined," Aqua declared softly, her words resonating in the air like a promise of eternity. Sora felt his cheeks flush with a delicate blush as he heard Aqua's words. His heart pounded as he tried to decipher the true meaning behind that declaration. Was it a romantic feeling, or simply a reference to their deep friendship?
"T-that's good," Sora replied with a voice choked with emotion, trying to find the right words to express his feelings.
Sora's heart beat strongly as he tried to decipher the true meaning behind Aqua's words. His face turned a deep blush as he heard her declaration, her words echoing in his mind and filling him with hope. Still nervous and confused, he wasn't sure if Aqua was referring to a romantic feeling or simply a deep friendship. Aqua's words weren't entirely clear, or maybe he was simply unable to pick up on obvious hints.
"Sora..." Aqua called him gently, seeing his nervous and confused expression. She took a deep breath, trying to find the right words to express what she felt.
"Yes?" Sora asked, his voice still trembling with the uncertainty that filled the air.
Aqua immersed herself in Sora's eyes, getting lost in his gaze full of innocence and tenderness. Her heart raced, and in that moment, she realized what she truly felt. She asked herself, in her deepest thoughts, if this was love. The kind of love that made her feel alive, that ignited her being, and filled her with unparalleled happiness.
In Aqua's mind, the question echoed again and again: "Is this what I feel love?" Her heart beat with overwhelming force, and butterflies fluttered in her stomach. Sora's figure, with his innocent and charming face, was the perfect reflection of the hope she had sought for so long. In those blue eyes, she found her joy and inspiration, and she couldn't deny the love stirring within her.
However, doubt and fear stood in her way. Was it too soon to reveal this? What if her confession ruined their friendship? Fearful of the consequences and of rushing things, Aqua decided to step back. Although her heart longed to say it out loud, she chose silence and unspoken words.
"Never mind," Aqua said with a sigh, hiding her words and holding back the emotions that threatened to overflow. Although regret embraced her immediately, she believed it was for the best at that moment. She shouldn't say it; she had just discovered that she truly felt love for someone after a long time, and she should take her time to reflect on it.
"Oh, okay," Sora said with a smile, calming down and letting go of his nervous state. His heart was relieved to see that Aqua didn't give importance to his unfinished words.
"It was fun exploring the island with you, Sora," Aqua admitted, letting out a little laugh. Sora lit up upon hearing her words, filled with joy to know that he had succeeded in making her have a good time.
"I'm glad to hear that," Sora replied with a radiant expression. However, something inside him urged him to delve even deeper into that shared moment. He didn't want it to end so easily; he wanted to uncover more about the feelings growing in his heart.
"By the way..." Sora began, his voice soft but filled with determination. Aqua looked at him curiously, waiting for his next question.
"Your hand is soft," Sora mentioned, glancing down at their entwined hands. Aqua felt a slight blush spreading across her cheeks as she realized that, somehow, she had taken Sora's hand without even realizing it. Her body had acted on its own, desperately seeking the touch of his hand as if wanting to hold onto that special feeling that connected them.
The warm and gentle touch of their intertwined hands sent a wave of emotions through both of them. It was a simple yet meaningful gesture, a silent language expressing the connection and trust that existed between them. Aqua couldn't help but feel her heart racing even faster again, as if their entwined hands were the physical manifestation of the invisible bonds that tied them together.
"Oh, really?" Aqua responded, her voice trembling and her heart beating strongly. Sora, with a playful twinkle in his eyes, tightened his grip on their hands, intensifying the connection between them. Aqua felt her body weaken in the intensity of the moment. She wondered why Sora had such an effect on her, why her feelings seemed to multiply a thousandfold when he was near.
"Yes," Sora nodded with a loving smile, not taking his gaze away from their entwined hands. "Your hands look so delicate, yet they convey an unmatched strength and determination. Don't you think?"
"I... I wouldn't know," Aqua found herself at a loss for words, her mind and heart struggling to find a coherent response. She had never stuttered so much in her life. Despite facing dangerous situations and coming face to face with death on more than one occasion, she felt incredibly vulnerable in front of this boy. How was it possible?
"Oh, I think it's the first time you've stammered so much," Sora admitted with a flirty smile, getting even closer to Aqua's face. This proximity caused the blush on Aqua's cheeks to intensify, spreading all over her face as if she were about to emit steam. The young Keyblade Master wondered if it was the heat or if it was she who was burning from within.
"R-really?" Aqua asked again, nervous and captivated by Sora's closeness.
"Yes," Sora replied, stopping his approach, leaving only a few inches between their faces. "You look incredibly cute when you blush." He smiled teasingly, making Aqua understand Sora's intentions at that moment. He was playfully returning the jokes and teasing she had directed at him just moments ago.
Aqua, feeling completely caught up in Sora's flirty game, frowned in annoyance.
"Stop teasing me, Sora!" she exclaimed, trying to put an end to the situation that was making her feel vulnerable.
Sora, however, couldn't contain his laughter at Aqua's reaction. His laughter echoed in the air as he backed away from her face, but his playful smile remained on his face.
"Oh, but it's so much fun," Sora replied, enjoying the moment and finding amusement in Aqua's reactions.
Aqua's frustration grew even more, and she grumbled irritably as she turned her gaze back to Sora. Now she understood how he had felt in the past days due to her own teasing, and she didn't like being on the receiving end of the situation.
"I wasn't lying when I said you looked cute," Sora affirmed with a spark of amusement in his eyes.
"Shut up already!" Aqua exclaimed, avoiding eye contact again and lowering her free hand as if to protect herself from any further interaction. Her annoyance was evident in her facial expression and tone of voice.
"D-damn your charm," Aqua muttered under her breath.
"I-I'm sorry, it's just inevitable," Sora said between laughs, trying to contain his mirth while Aqua maintained a serious look, attempting to appear angry and stern. But to Sora, she simply looked like a little girl throwing a tantrum. "Come on, are you really mad?"
"Yes," Aqua responded, avoiding Sora's gaze again, which only made him smile more.
"Come on, don't be mad, Aqua," Sora insisted, trying to ease the tension.
"No," Aqua denied, determined to maintain her stance.
"But your hand says otherwise," Sora said with a smile, looking at their intertwined hands. "Don't you plan on letting go?"
"No..." Aqua whispered softly, almost inaudibly.
"What was that?" Sora asked, not having clearly heard Aqua's words. "I didn't catch that."
"Look who's talking, you're also holding my hand," Aqua retorted, looking at the boy with determination.
"Good point," Sora said with a small laugh. "If you want me to let go, just say it."
Aqua fell silent for a moment, pondering how to handle the situation. She didn't want Sora to let go of her hand, but she also didn't want him to tease her anymore. She reflected and found a way to take control of the situation without losing her position.
Aqua, playfully, looked at Sora and asked with coquetry, "I don't know, do you really like holding my hand that much?" She tugged slightly on their intertwined hands, causing Sora to get even closer to her, their faces almost touching. Now it was she who wanted to take control of the situation.
"Tell me, Sora, do you like it?" Aqua asked as she tightened their handhold with firm yet delicate grip. She wanted to know the truth, to hear the words her heart longed for.
"Or, do you not like it?" Aqua whispered, getting even closer to Sora's face, their lips almost touching. "Because, as far as I know, you can also let go at any moment, can't you?"
Sora was mesmerized by Aqua's closeness, his heart pounding in his chest. He looked into her eyes, lost in her beauty and the intensity of the moment.
Aqua, taking advantage of the role reversal, playfully smiled as she saw Sora stammer, now having the power to have a little fun at his expense. The blue-eyed boy, on the other hand, found himself in the same position Aqua had been in minutes ago, his face turning pink as he felt her getting closer and closer.
"Oh, look at that, now you're the one stammering," Aqua said playfully and with amusement. She wanted to make it clear that she was the expert in games, and trying to change that role wasn't a good idea.
"How cute," she whispered. The tension in the air was palpable, and both could feel their hearts beating in unison. Sora was lost in the moment, his eyes fixed on Aqua's lips, and he would be lying if he said he didn't long for a touch, a kiss—they were so close.
"You look like a trembling puppy, how adorable," Aqua teased, enjoying the playful banter between them.
"I-I'm not a puppy, Aqua!" Sora exclaimed, raising his voice with a mix of annoyance, embarrassment, and affection inside. "D-Don't call me that!"
"But I like it," Aqua continued her game, about to get even closer to him. However, Sora leaned his head back to maintain some distance.
"Why are you pulling away? Are you afraid to be this close to me?" Aqua asked, still having fun with the situation.
"O-okay, Aqua, enough!" Sora requested, his face completely flushed.
"Enough? Does it bother you?" Aqua inquired.
"N-no, b-but... w-well, I... a-ahg!" Sora was at a loss for words, unable to express clearly what he felt. Aqua let out a small laugh and backed away, finally releasing their hands, which allowed Aqua to relax and laugh.
"Stop laughing!" Sora exclaimed, raising his voice while Aqua continued to laugh heartily. "It's not funny!"
"It is," Aqua admitted, laughing even louder, teasing Sora, who just huffed in response.
"Hmmm," he grumbled irritably, releasing Aqua's hand, crossing his arms, and averting his gaze from her in a sign of annoyance.
"Come on, Sora, don't be like that," Aqua called, but the blue-eyed boy continued to ignore her and give no response.
"Oh, are you ignoring me?" Aqua asked, but she received no reply from the young man.
"I'm really sorry for bothering you... I knew trying to be happy again was a bad idea, and now you're mad at me. I'm sorry," Aqua said with sadness in her voice, trying to make Sora stop being angry with her. She knew that if she could convey her remorse, Sora would soon let go of his annoyance.
"Don't say that, Aqua! I'm not mad at you! I could never be mad at you! Don't be..." Sora stopped speaking as he noticed Aqua had formed a playful smile on her face at his reaction. She was definitely someone you couldn't stay mad at for more than ten seconds.
"You're definitely someone very noble and kind, Sora," Aqua admitted, and the young hero sighed at Aqua's feigned sadness.
"You know, despite everything, I'm glad," Sora admitted, smiling slightly.
"Glad?" Aqua asked, confused.
"Don't you see it?" Sora asked with a broad smile. "Since you arrived here, you've only done one thing."
"What?" Aqua asked, still confused.
"You smile," Sora quickly responded, his voice full of warmth and tenderness.
"When I went to see you at your home, I didn't see you smile, laugh, and joke as much as you do now," Sora continued, his gaze focused on Aqua, capturing every detail of her radiant expression. Aqua fell into thoughtful silence, recognizing the truth in Sora's words. Since Sora came into her life, her face lit up with a constant smile, and her laughter filled the air with joy. At no moment was she sad, at no moment did she let herself be consumed by the dark thoughts of her past. Instead, her mind and heart were filled with the presence of that dark-skinned boy with blue eyes.
It was as if Sora was a radiant light that dispelled all the shadows and fears that haunted her. Aqua realized that throughout the day, her mind had been completely occupied by him, setting aside the dark thoughts and worries that tormented her. Sora was more than just an amazing person; he was someone she deeply loved.
"You're right," Aqua said, gazing out at the sea stretching before them. "Now that I think about it, it's hard to believe." Gently, Aqua brought her hand up to her neck, where the crown-shaped necklace that Sora had given her some time ago rested. Her fingers closed around the pendant, holding it tightly.
"Oh, you still have the necklace," Sora commented, a look of surprise and joy lighting up his face. He hadn't noticed that detail, mainly because his attention was always focused on Aqua's face, never looking down.
"Of course, I do," Aqua replied, her voice filled with tenderness and gratitude. "You said it was very important to you, and you were right. This necklace has been a great help to me."
Sora smiled, his eyes shining with love and understanding. In that simple gesture, there was a deep connection between them, a constant reminder of how important they were to each other.
"I know," Sora affirmed, his voice full of certainty.
"You never told me why it's so important to you, Sora," Aqua inquired, looking at the boy, who simply smiled nostalgically at her. "Can you tell me, why?"
"Yes, I'll tell you," Sora replied, his eyes fixed on Aqua's. With his index finger, he pointed to the necklace she wore around her neck. "This necklace was given to me by the most special and important person I've ever had in my life." Aqua was puzzled by that answer. The most important person in Sora's life? Kairi? No, it couldn't be. Oh, yes? Oh, no? Uncertainty gripped her. Who could be that significant person for Sora?
"The most important person in your life? Who is it?" Aqua asked, eagerly awaiting the answer. Sora directed his gaze to the sea, maintaining that nostalgic smile on his face.
"My mother..." Sora whispered, speaking the words with love and reverence. Aqua was left speechless by that revelation. Of course, Sora's mother. It was obvious that she would be the most important person in his life.
As Aqua thought about it more carefully, she realized she had completely forgotten that Sora had a mother. How could she forget something so important? Although Sora didn't often talk much about his family, she found it curious and meaningful to learn more about the motherly figure who had shaped the blue-eyed boy.
For her part, Aqua had never had a mother or father figure in her life. The closest thing she had to a father figure was her late master Eraqus, who had been an invaluable guide and mentor. Though it was hard for her to admit, she had also been influenced in some way by Xehanort, who despite his wrongdoings, had occupied a paternal place in her life. Aqua couldn't deny the complexity of that relationship, but she had learned to acknowledge that, in some way, Xehanort had been a father figure to her.
"Oh, your mother... maybe you can introduce me to her sometime," Aqua smiled, but her expression soon turned to one of confusion as she saw how Sora's gaze shifted to one of sadness and sorrow, an expression she occasionally had most of the time.
"That, I'm afraid, won't be possible, Aqua," Sora whispered.
"Uh? Why?" asked Aqua, puzzled.
"I haven't seen her in a long time," Sora replied, leaving Aqua even more confused. What exactly did Sora mean by that? The brunette turned his gaze to the young woman, still wearing a sad expression.
"You see... when these islands were engulfed in darkness long ago, all their inhabitants were taken, who knows where. I, for example, ended up in Traverse Town. I remember exactly what Riku told me when it all happened: 'Once we leave, maybe we won't be able to come back. Maybe we won't see our parents again'... And he was right. Not just our parents, but the few inhabitants of these islands. When the island was restored, everything returned except its people, scattered across different worlds. And although I tried to find her, she never appeared," Sora finished, his face still showing sadness. It was obvious that mentioning something like that was difficult for him.
"That necklace," Sora pointed to the necklace Aqua was wearing, "is the only memory I have of her. She gave it to me on my fourteenth birthday, before the island disappeared."
"Sora..." Aqua found no words to say. She had no idea that Sora's mother had been gone from his side for so long. The weight of sadness and emptiness was palpable in the air, enveloping both of them in a melancholy that reminded them of how fleeting the presence of those we love can be.
Sora's words resonated in the silence, laden with yearning and longing. "I wish I could see her again... I couldn't even say goodbye or give her one last hug, nothing... She just vanished." Aqua noticed how Sora was engulfed in desolation and nostalgia. In that instant, she regretted asking something that had unleashed a torrent of painful emotions. What started as a happy and pleasant moment had turned into a moment of overwhelming sadness for Sora, and he blamed himself for it.
Sora, with a subdued smile, apologized for his sensitivity. He knew it wasn't easy to express his deepest pain, that persistent void that had accompanied him since his mother's departure. However, his apologies only added to the weight in Aqua's heart.
"No," Aqua replied, gently shaking her head. "Don't worry. I know this topic is extremely delicate for you. I shouldn't have asked, I'm sorry." Her words were filled with understanding and empathy. She, more than anyone, knew the difficulty of losing those you consider your parents or family. After all, Aqua had lost her masters, who were like father figures to her. She deeply understood the pain and emptiness that come with such absences, just like Ventus and Terra.
"Don't worry, it's okay. It's not your fault; you just wanted to know, it's alright," Sora smiled slightly. Aqua only nodded in response, relieved to see the sweet smile back on his face. That's how it should be.
"If this necklace is so important to you... why did you give it to me?" Aqua asked, confused. If that necklace was so precious to Sora, why would he give it to her?
"Because this necklace has been with me forever, Aqua. It gives me strength to move forward. I told you, this necklace is my most treasured possession, my most valuable possession," Sora explained with a smile as he approached Aqua.
"And I would only entrust it to someone equally precious," Sora said playfully, pinching Aqua's nose affectionately with his index finger. "And that person is you. You are as precious to me as this necklace... even more."
Aqua couldn't help but blush, just like the first time Sora told her that she was the most important person to him. But, in the same way, she could only smile with happiness about it.
"Now I have more reasons to take very good care of this necklace," Aqua said, smiling widely as she held the necklace in her hands.
"I know you'll take better care of it than anyone else," Sora said with a big smile. His eyes reflected the confidence and certainty that Aqua would protect this precious object for him.
Both continued chatting, immersed in their own world of confidences and laughter. From the main beach, someone watched them carefully with a smile on their face, radiating pure happiness.
"Who would have thought..." the person whispered, closing their eyes for a few seconds. "This is truly a surprise." They began to walk back to the cozy coastal house, enjoying the warm wind caressing their face.
"It seems that two people are in love... I wonder how long it will take for them to confess their feelings to each other," they chuckled, full of complicity with themselves. They knew Aqua and Sora very well, their personalities, and the special connection they shared.
"Knowing them, they'll probably take a little while," they continued as they got lost in their thoughts. They observed once again from afar, admiring how both of them were laughing heartily, overflowing with happiness. It was a beautiful sight to witness.
"If I had to bet on someone," they directed their gaze towards the charming girl with short, blue hair, "I think it would be her." A mischievous spark glowed in their eyes.
"Oh, it's getting late," the young man remarked, directing his gaze to the sea where the sun was slowly setting. A blend of warm colors spread across the horizon, creating a magical and romantic scenery. "I hadn't planned for us to watch the sunset," he added, smiling.
"Well, I'm lucky," Aqua moved a little closer to Sora, feeling the warmth of his presence. "I'm very lucky to watch this beautiful sunset with you." Gently, she leaned her head slow and delicately on the shoulder of the dark-haired boy, who only had a sweet smile at her gesture as he glanced at her.
"Yes, how lucky," Sora whispered, his voice filled with palpable emotion. The warmth of the moment flooded his heart, making the beating of his feelings grow even stronger.

Well, here's another chapter of this story. As a side note, in the part of the cave, the author had included an image edited by her where she had drawn the picture that Sora and Aqua draw in that scene. Unfortunately, since images cannot be included here as far as I know, I couldn't share that picture. However, if you want to see it, it's in the original story on Wattpad by NAEM-59.
